Zpocalypse Board Game Overview - Gen Con 2013
Transcript
Hi, my name is Zachary Parks, one of the co-creators for Greenbire Games, Z Apocalypse. Let's talk a little bit about Zpocalypse. Zpocalypse is a modular zombie defense game and such where you are playing as survivors, a squad of survivors that is basically trying to survive in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. We have modular tiles that basically organically grow. The players place the tiles down. There is no GM for the game. The game plays over four can play up to four days of in-game play time where you are basically trying to build fortifications to survive against the zombies. You need to go out, find food to feed your survivors. You need to go out and find additional survivors because the survivors kind of act like hit points within the game. We have our squad board down here which allows you to keep track of how many hit points you have, how much armor you have, what your skill and firearms and melee are. Um, we have various weapons in the game that you find through scavenging of which you can get increased skill to use throughout the game. One of the beautiful mechanics of the game is rolling everything together. So instead of taking individual attacks with each of your survivors, we have it set up so that you can roll all of them at once to do a quick play type type of just there's a lot of carnage in the game and in various situations it can get rather difficult. We have uh scenario cards and something's happening cards which change
up the gameplay. So every single time that you're playing it's a different game. So the replayability of Zpocalypse is pretty fantastic in our opinion. Uh, one of the other things is we have you can build walls, gates, traps, sandbags, which acts like a tower defense type style for the game to slow the zombies or prevent them from actually getting into your base where which is one of the starting points because the story-wise you are in a bunker. The world has basically been nuked for all intents and purposes and these zombies are all over the place trying to get you and your whole purpose is basically just trying to survive. Uh, this game has been out for about a year now. Uh, it was successfully kickstarted in 2012. We recently did another Kickstarter with uh, some enhancements to the game such as for like 3D miniatures for the fortifications and some improved miniatures for the game. In addition, we also have our Z Master fifth player expansion, which is pretty hot right now. Just went on sale back in June. And this allows a player to play the zombies and use special zombies to attack the players and have another person play in the game. It's been uh pretty popular so far. Though I do have to say that the mortality rate in team master is pretty high. You have to be a pretty pretty veteran player to actually be able to get through the game and everything. But um yeah, that's my spiel.
