Description

Two thousand years ago, the Roman Empire ruled the lands around the Mediterranean Sea. With peace at the borders, harmony inside the provinces, uniform law, and a common currency, the economy thrived and gave rise to mighty Roman dynasties as they expanded throughout the numerous cities. Guide one of these dynasties and send colonists to the remote realms of the Empire; develop your trade network; and appease the ancient gods for their favor — all to gain the chance to emerge victorious!

Concordia is a peaceful, strategy game of economic development in Roman times for 2-5 players aged 13 and up. Instead of looking to the luck of dice or cards, players must rely on their strategic abilities. Be sure to watch your rivals to determine which goals they are pursuing and where you can outpace them! In the game, colonists are sent out from Rome to settle down in cities that produce bricks, food, tools, wine, and cloth. Each player starts with an identical set of playing cards and acquires more cards during the game. These cards serve two purposes:

They allow a player to choose actions during the game.
They are worth victory points (VPs) at the end of the game.

Concordia is a strategy game that requires advanced planning and consideration of your opponent's moves. Every game is different, not only because of the sequence of new cards on sale but also due to the modular layout of cities. (One side of the game board shows the entire Roman Empire with 30 cities for 3-5 players, while the other shows Roman Italy with 25 cities for 2-4 players.) When all cards have been sold or after the first player builds their 15th house, the game ends. The player with the most VPs from the gods (Jupiter, Saturnus, Mercurius, Minerva, Vesta, etc.) wins the game.

Quotes (from this video)
  • one of my favorite engine building game
  • such satisfying combos you can build up uh with these cards you're collecting through this worker placement system where you have Columns of cards and basically the the higher up the columns these cards sit means the stronger worker you need to get that card
  • the strength of your workers is determined by a random roll of a D6 and that might sound pretty um you know pretty cheesy but it's actually not because those dice are going to determine the colors of those workers for all of the players
  • loads of different strategies you can go for here like do you want to build up your Green Engine or your or your Yellow Engine and where you are activating a certain spot on the board and those cards you collected are spitting out and churning out resources at really high high rates or are you going to collect you know blue cards to give you just pure scoring or purple ones that will give you discounts and things
  • not enough time to do everything which is one of the things that keeps me coming back to Lorenzo IL magnifico
  • it also has a fantas fantastic expansion where you can start with unique abilities and even bid for the ones that you really want
  • this is kind of the big box version of you know Russian railroads American railroads German railroads and I think there's even another one in there
  • this is such a fun worker placement game that just is super satisfying because each round your generating huge amounts of points by climbing up these tracks
  • the turn Ang or the worker placement in my opinion is super high in this game and for me that is kind of one of the essentials that you need in a good worker placement game there needs to be that kind of uh turna when it's not your turn and someone's grabbed the spot that you want um there's got to be that frustration there's got to be that that again that real sense of urgency to get the spots that you want and for me um ultimate railroads really has that
  • I love the variability on the different ways you can play game um especially love the ones where you can update or upgrade your personal player board to get some unique track on there so when you reach certain check points you'll get some abilities that only you can get and nobody else can
  • this is just such a rewarding and fun game that every time just feels amazing
  • the only nitpick I'd have with this game is that if somebody does start running away with things earlier in the um in the phases then it's quite hard to make up that lost ground because know generally speaking it's a game where you constantly picking up momentum rather than falling behind again so again if you fall behind too early it can be difficult to create to bridge that Gap
  • it scales extremely well actually I actually really like this game at two players um but it also works every other player count too
  • it's just such a well um polished and well iron out design that is Ultimate railroads

  • it's Dominoes Ah
  • based on reviewing the Wikipedia for dominoes um that doesn't that seem that year seems wrong. That seems way late.
  • but anything that is like a Domino's game we would recognize doesn't occur until the very end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century.
  • and tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m., we're finishing up with Antiquity, which is pictured behind Ken's head over there.
  • Of our 402 games, only 13 are published before 1990.
  • So you got Spirit Island, you got Lizboa, you got Quest for Elorado, and 22 other games that are on one person's list.

  • there's going to be another one tomorrow where we go through tutorial number four of Atlantic Chase.
  • I might have a latest greatest version of Crossrox. I'm so excited about this game after hearing you guys talk about it.

Quotes (from this video)
  • So, I don't know why this one really um kind of grabbed my attention since I saw this one. It does sound like a complete random luckfest, but it does seem to have a certain charm and appeal to me.
  • You know, I tend to like deduction games, although I do think it's an oversaturated genre of games, but this one sounds different enough to stand out and stand away from the pack.
  • So, I'm quite proud of myself that I didn't jump straight into getting that one when I first played Concordia because I played the the base game alone quite a few times now. So, I think I'm ready for an expansion.
  • And I always thought it was quite or these lists are quite funny because I go in with a plan, but I'll come back with a a random arrangement of completely different games, no doubt.

  • We like lordas but like boa and kban ee is my favorite ones.
  • And then we're going to have Mara Kybo. Oh, Marbo is good. Uh I really like it still. Even though that Pirates of Marbo kind of did the same goodness in shorter amount of time.
  • I would place Marbo in B or C.
  • What? D.
  • And uh lastly for this part of the video, we're going to have come down EV S S. Yeah, that's an easy one to end on. We like lordas but like boa and kban ee is my favorite ones.
  • That was way more fun than I thought it would be.
  • I think this is fun because well we kind of have this thing in top 10 or especially in top uh when we make top 100 and top 50 because she's like oh you picked this so low or this is so high and we get like to kind of see our differences a little more clearly.
  • Also when we do the keep and we disagree we kind of I think that is fun and I thought that we we're going to agree more. So, but but it's nice that we don't.

  • Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization is the engine builder to end all engine builders.
  • In Twilight Struggle, one of the more interesting times in history is played out. And I love that each card is a real event that happened.
  • Gaia Project built on Terrammystica and perfected the form. It's the best one.
  • Gloom Haven: Jaws of the Lion has the best tutorial system I have ever seen in a game, and I think it legitimately creates new board gamers constantly because of the way they make it so approachable.
  • Each Spirit in Spirit Island can be played over and over as you learn how to master their abilities, and there are so much content in the box. It also just plays amazing solo.
  • Dune Imperium Uprising took Dune Imperium to a whole new level of scale and scope, and it's got them worms.
  • It's impossible to have a bad time playing Star Wars Rebellion, especially if you love Star Wars. Okay, mostly only if you love Star Wars, but it's really fun. It's Lord of the Rings in a box, and it's perfect.
  • For a solid like 6 years, Terraforming Mars was absolutely the king of the board game hobby. Unreal staying power.
  • Dune Imperium uses art based on the movies, but it doesn't feel at all like a movie tie-in cash grab.
  • The scale and epic stories that come out of Twilight Imperium fourth edition make it everlasting. Every time you play, you get a permanent memory and story. It's truly impressive.
  • The sheer amount of content in Gloom Haven and the card play makes this dungeon crawler a Eurogamer's delight.
  • Ark Nova takes Terraforming Mars' cardplay in Civilization's action card mechanisms and put it into a theme we're just way more interested in. just the absolute pinnacle of mashing up mechanisms into a masterpiece.
  • Pandemic Legacy Season 1 has deserved every single ounce of acclaim and accolades it's received over the years. It was an absolute phenomena when it came out.
  • I don't want to say anything nice about this game. I don't want to say anything nice about this game. I don't like this game though.
  • Fine. Fine.
  • Brass Birmingham is objectively a board game. Done. Easy. That was nice. Words that are written.
  • Brass rhymes with ass. Got him. You're done.
  • Brass Birmingham has one of the best examples of positive player interaction and a game I'd actually seek out to play for a player. Was that so hard?
  • So, that was one nice thing about every single game in the Board Game Geek top 100. Many games that we actually don't even really like, but there's always something nice to say. Exactly.

  • Power Grid is the game that's so popular, so successful, but still feels like an underdog when compared to other games.
  • The auction here is very tense at six players.
  • Cursed Court is a fantastic betting game that really shines at higher player counts.

  • Zu Vardis, that's a fantastic game where everyone's trying to help each other get to the top of the board, the zoo in Zuardis. But you also want to be the person who gets to the very top the first.
  • The jazzy pattern, which doesn't always make for great cognition of a board and what the heck is going on.
  • It's an incredibly dark board. I think they reprinted it with a lighter board, just they already did this. It's like no one can This is very dark. No one can see what's happening.
  • I did learn that if you mix red wine and white wine together, that's how you make rosé. That's fact according to Viticulture.
  • the main thing that I've learned from games is that little insight into different worlds all around the world and beyond because of board games.
  • I've learned that from board games. And while I can't say I've learned a bunch of hard facts, I think board games have kind of opened up the world to me a little bit from my table.

Quotes (from this video)
  • The reason I highlighted Planet Unknown is that this is a game that is purely about building a planet.
  • But I love the idea that instead of having a universe of planets that you can go and discover, instead you have one specific planet with a unique hook, a unique layout, beautiful art.
  • So, in Hot Streak, it is a racing game for mascots.
  • Delightful game. I think the the theatic and the uh mechanical twist make this game really stand out.
  • Trading in the Mediterranean. Concordia is the game that I think has really broken through in this genre.
  • They typically don't enjoy trading in the Mediterranean, but they really really enjoy Concordia.
  • But if you're not into the Viking theme of I I guess exploring and pillaging, if you're not really into that, I think a game that stands out that's mentioned here is the game A Feast for Odin.
  • But I think this game is just a really really good Eurothemed game that give players a lot of choices.
  • So, Creature Caravan doesn't even really present itself as a zombie themed game, but it is.
  • But I love that Ryan Locket put his own spin on zombie themed games by just having them be these lumbering creatures that that just follow you around.
  • I say that because our game origin story, we have a different take on the the superhero theme in our collection now.

Quotes (from this video)
  • I don't feel any pressure to create content.
  • This is my full-time job, right? I don't have another job to go to.
  • I'm producing all of this content and honestly, if I could produce more, I would because I love what I do.
  • The category here or the criteria here is massively popular, really well-respected, solid Euro games that have been around for a while and stood the test of time and are known as just really, really good games.
  • No games do. It doesn't need all of the bling and everything else.
  • I think most people in life are affected by what's called seasonally adjusted disorder.
  • Entering is absolutely free. It doesn't cost you anything whatsoever.
  • The secret word this month is haggis.
  • All of my advertising revenue from all of my videos goes to charity.
  • I don't make any money out of the videos themselves on YouTube. People call me crazy. They would be right.
  • It's only 70 to go.
  • I have not. No. Not Not even heard of that one.
  • I would strongly recommend you just do it because you want to do it. Don't go out and spend £4,000 on a fancy camera, lights, and everything else and think 'Right, I'm going to be the next big channel and I'm going to get 50,000 subscribers in 6 months.'
  • One thing that really annoys me is when the games come out at retail like the same time or even before and they're cheaper.
  • I personally believe it is fundamentally, morally, and ethically wrong for me to sell a pre-production prototype copy of a game.
  • It's International Unplayed Games Day. And the date that I've chosen... is the 1st of July.
  • I have already got two of them on my channel, if not three, and I'm doing another one next Wednesday.

  • If you've been around for a bit on the channel, then you know that I have the series Chewback or Not to Back, one of my most popular series, but one that I ultimately stopped doing for a variety of reasons.
  • I'm not yet sure if it's a keeper for me. There's many things that I really enjoyed, and I do want more plays out of it for now, but it's one of those games that the biggest problem with Entropy, as far as I'm concerned, is that there are so many amazing Eurogames, and I have to be very particular which games actually get my time versus which games do I want to give more time to.
  • I don't think games need to be forever.
  • These are by far the best swappable dice faces I have ever played in any game.
  • The testimonial they have of Blatro is like, 'These dice really work well.' Which is true. The dice do really work well, and I was concerned they wouldn't.
  • For clarity, I love the game. I thought it was great.

  • I really liked how uh bombastic the cards get in allowing you to do, you know, things on your own board and how to explore it.
  • Uh especially with the military aspect and, you know, creating or increasing the military might that you have to um impose on other opponents and when these battles really made our games uh come down to these in addition to uh the just straight-up deck building and um you know, playing cards from your hands and worker placement aspects that has a lot of good mechanisms that I enjoy.
  • This game I really enjoyed for the theme. I like the the thematic story and the arc of this game where the plague gets pretty bad uh during the game, uh but then slowly as you start to unders- or, you know, uh combat the disease, you start to uh rely less and less on taking out the plague and more and more coming back to repopulate Messina.
  • it's still a game that is is tough for me to play sometimes just because um you know, I if I think I know what is going on with the strategy of this game and and and you know, the the more that I have to learn from it and so it kind of deterred me from playing it more
  • But yeah, uh as as bland as it looks, it's actually really fun order fulfillment game.
  • Um it's not as deep or complex as Magic or Hearthstone or some of the other card games are, but it probably will get to that point at some at some point.
  • I wish that the meta game was more diverse. It hasn't been so since the start of the game.
  • And Wingspan for me, while it's a masterpiece of of a design um in my opinion, I really was really drawn to all of the birds and the individuality of these cards.
  • It does take a while to play, I think if you're playing with new people, which was kind of a deterrent for me for bringing this game out more often.
  • So, this is one of the latest Uwe Rosenberg games back in 2022, one of my favorite games. One for the solo version of this game. I think that is the peak way to play this game.
  • And so I I hold it in high esteem.
