  • Tranquility to the Scent is still an excellent version of it.

  • I do not think it's a forever game.

Quotes (from this video)
  • I think it's really neat that a game like this has progression.
  • So, it gives you this feeling that I think is so brilliant in a push your luck game, where you have a chance, even if you have not rolled well throughout most of the game, that you can come down to the wire in that last turn, and you have a chance to win, even if you have two points over the course of the game. Someone else has 50. You can still win if you roll seven bells.
  • And I thought that was a really clever mechanism to put in the game, where previous to this, you always just wanted the force to be with you.
  • I really like the game that the game presents this fairly organic timer to you.
  • But I thought this was really really clever that you're scoring these special abilities based on the current trick as well.
  • But I just love that without any shuffling.
  • And I think that's such a clever twist that I really want to use it in the game where you are kind of crafting a deck but you're inserting cards in specific places in that deck and how that matters.
  • So, there's this nice, slight catch-up mechanism.
  • And so, uh I just like that. I like positive player interaction, but I also like close games, and I think this does it in a really nice way.
  • I think what this does is that lets players be themselves.
  • And I think that is so cool that these cards give you that flexibility.
  • I think that is so clever that you have a few chances to take over your opponent's cards.
  • I really appreciate when games do this, especially fairly complex games like Sanctuary.
  • And uh yeah, I think this this short-term goal system um of things to pursue, I think, is really really helpful in Sanctuary.
  • There's this shared trauma in this game cuz when this robot comes up, it hurts everybody.
  • I think it's such a clean system.
  • I really love the variability that adds and how it kind of can shape the decisions that you make on any given game. It's such a clever system.

  • Galactic Cruise continues to be a game I play it on BGA now. It's I'm almost constantly in a game or two of this game on BGA. Like I don't know that I'm going to get tired of playing it primarily because of of the interesting puzzle that it gives you every time you play.
  • Shallow Sea has that really, really well because you're able to accomplish something, and by accomplishing something, it gives you this little shell resource, and you could spend that immediately to accomplish another thing, gives you another shell, and you can just have these massive turns
  • The presentation is amazing. The game looks beautiful.

  • And that's why dueling board games are just some of my favorite because they're just so replayable and they're really quick to reset.
  • This game takes the trophy, quite literally, for the best production value, hands down, out of all the games that you can see today.
  • I honestly thought it was sort of a gimmick where you just have a bunch of really nice production value, but in exchange you just roll dice and see whoever has the highest number wins.
  • Yes, when it comes to dueling board games, nothing checks every single box like Marvel Dice Throne does for me.
  • The game really encapsulates what it feels like to be that actual character.

  • Hi everyone, my name is Mon'nique and today I'm going to be showing you how to play a game called Tag Team, an auto battling and deck building game designed by Greca German and Quarantin Labra and published by Le Scorpion Maske who are helping sponsor this video.
  • The game is simple to play, but the real strategy comes in building your deck and carefully choosing where to insert new cards in order to counter your opponent's moves and set up powerful combos.
  • In Tag Team, you'll draft a team of fighters, build their decks from round to round, and go head-to-head with your opponent until one player has been knocked out.
  • All card actions are considered to be simultaneous and mandatory, so you must resolve them if possible.
  • Any effect on a card or a fighter board always overrules any rule in the rule book.

Pros
  • Easy and fast playing
  • Has strategy and mind games
  • Fast playing
  • Unique characters and abilities
  • High replayability
  • Small table presence
  • Quick playtime
  • Fun reveal and anticipation
  • Combinations of characters feel unique
Cons
  • Completely random element
  • Difficulty in planning due to opponent's deck manipulation
  • Can be difficult to block specific attacks if not planned
  • Reliance on luck for some exciting moments
Thematic elements
  • one-on-one fighting game
Comparison games
  • Dice Throne
Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • auto battler — Because this is a what do they call it? auto battler.
  • Deck Building — Each of those characters comes with a deck of cards, one of which is a starting card, and the rest you're going to shuffle together with the other character to form one deck.
  • Deck Manipulation — But then you have to decide where it goes in your deck.
  • Hand Management — You draw three and choose one, which already that's a pretty tough decision. Which of these three is going to be most helpful?
  • Resource Management — Everyone starts with some power cubes, but you have a lot of cards. I had another guy here. Uh, he turned into the Berserker Bear, but it was only after I'd added a ton of power because I had these cards that were blocking his attacks and converting it into more power so that once I could actually get an attack off, it was going to be devastating.
  • Set Collection — So, there's cards that would add tricks. I don't know if they're tricks. I can't remember the term. Uh but there's these little like plans, these schemes, maybe schemes.
  • Simultaneous Reveal — On your turn, you're flipping over the top card of your deck. Your opponent flips over the top card of their deck and they clash.
  • token management — And these one of the cards says, 'Place a concentration token on your opponent.'
  • track movement — I had this cool little ship track where like I was sailing ships in and the higher up on the track, the more powerful some of my cards were.
  • Variable player powers — all 12 characters have their own abilities. So all their cards are going to be very unique.

Quotes (from this video)
  • Tag Team, I think it's going to be a hit of the show.
  • This one is such an easy, fast playing game. Um, it's got some strategy. It's got some mind games, but it is also got some chaos.
  • And whatever happens on both cards happens and simultaneously. You don't know. It's completely random.
  • That is where the mind games come into play.
  • It makes me want to try all of these different pairs.
  • It's such a small table presence, you can play it practically anywhere.
  • The thing about this game is like it it is quick and I I can still enjoy it because there's that fun of the reveal of like you almost have that shaking anticipation like did I put my shield in the right place?
  • It's wild how it how it plays out, how the decks change.

Pros
  • Auto battling is tense and exciting.
  • Deck building is an interesting and deep choice.
  • Characters are highly varied, fun, unique, and exciting to experiment with.
  • Quick gameplay (5-10 minutes per match).
  • Lots of variety in a small package.
Cons
  • Drafting can lead to repetitive pairings.
  • Auto battling phase has no player decisions.
  • Element of luck in predicting opponent and card draws can be frustrating for some.
  • Auto battling nature doesn't offer a ton of strategy and control.
Thematic elements
Comparison games
  • challengers
Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • auto battler — The auto battling itself. This is kind of the main event of the game, flipping these cards up and seeing what happens. But because the players make no decisions during it, like literally none, you just do what the cards say and move on.
  • Card Drafting — Each player drafts two characters from a selection of 12 and they get their initial cards as their starting deck. The game gives you a few different ways to draft.
  • deck builder — A mix of an auto battler and a deck builder. Adding these cards to your deck because it is a really really interesting choice and it is basically the only choice you make in the game.
  • Deck customization — Whenever they go through their entire deck, each player takes that shuffle together pile of cards from both characters, draws three, picks one of them to permanently add to their deck, and also secretly decides where they want to place it within their deck, changing up the order and how the cards match up between them and their opponent.
  • Simultaneous action selection — In the actual combat, the players are simultaneously turning over the top card of their deck, sort of like war, comparing what happens.

  • Our lives have been extremely chaotic in the past month, haven't they, Jeff?
  • It's literally chaos and all you can do is just be like, 'What is going on? What's next?'
  • The games are chaos. And also, I do know the sound is probably like I can hear it's a little echoey in here even though we have the sound panels.
  • Doomlings is a lightweight strategic card game with unique characters, weird effects, and endless replayability.
  • The beauty of Doomlings is you can keep adding more and more to it to expand the variety in your game, which we love.
  • It is very easy, very straightforward. Uh, and very, very quick.
  • But what I will mention is that this game can be very mean.
  • I personally freaking loved it.

Quotes (from this video)
  • Sanctuary is kind of a new version of Arknova. It's not necessarily a sequel to Ark Nova at all, but what it's doing is taking a lot of what people loved about Arknova, especially like the zoo, building and collecting animals, and it's repackaging it in a what I would call maybe a little bit smaller, but more streamlined, faster tile placement game that takes a lot of what people did love.
  • Orlone has continued to be my number one and it may still be my number one.
  • With that said, this big box has everything you've ever wanted. It has all of the expansions included. It has nice storage trays. Has all sorts of deluxe bits.
  • If you know someone who owns it and loves it, get them this big box because the storage solution for all things Arnac is fantastic. Plus, it does come with new content.
  • It's heavy but in a very approachable way. They really did a great job with every aspect of this game.
  • It does give us sort of vibes, but it's kind of like a stepping stone into that that heavier game.

Pros
  • Best new co-op game played in years by far.
  • Incredibly challenging.
  • Brilliant design touches that encourage and incentivize collaboration.
  • The focus on players helping each other is unparalleled in co-op games.
  • Great theme.
  • The two-player game is great and retains the cooperative feeling.
  • The designer's work is phenomenal.
Cons
  • The rulebook is one of the least favorite the reviewer has ever seen, with a confusing and difficult-to-navigate format.
  • Reducing difficulty involves removing game modules (features) rather than adjusting game parameters, which the reviewer dislikes.
  • The game is so challenging that it might be difficult for less experienced gamers to enjoy without removing core game elements.
Thematic elements
  • National forest rangers completing missions
  • National park
Comparison games
  • Pandemic
Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • card drafting/hand management — Players start with four cards, but must give two to the player on their left and two to the player on their right, requiring strategic thinking about what cards others need.
  • cooperative play — Players work together as national forest rangers to complete missions and manage park breakdowns.
  • Modular gameplay — The game is designed to be played through a series of missions, each introducing new features and complexity.
  • Multi-Use Cards — Cards can be used for movement across the park via various terrain types (hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, rafting, driving, flying) or discarded to spot specific fauna if the player is in the correct region.
  • Set Collection — Players need to check in on all flora (visiting locations) and fauna (spotting animals) in a specific order before time runs out.

  • No co-op game I've ever played puts that more front and center in your thought process than this game.
  • The rule book that comes with this game maybe my least favorite rule book I've ever seen quite frankly.
  • THAT DRIVES ME NUTS.
  • And so I am really on the fence about whether I'm going to keep this quite frankly.

  • Again, they're all two player games, so we won't belabor it by telling you that every single time.

  • We are going to do a bracketed tournament for two player games culminating in not what I would say, it's not going to be the best two player game necessarily. It could be. It might be, but it's just going to be the winner of this tournament because we've done some randomization here with some of the games that we've matched up
  • You can fill out your own brackets, but you are also going to be picking the winners cuz we're going to be running polls on our Discord for each and every match up so that it's I mean, for lack of a better way of putting it, kind of a popularity contest each time.
  • I think Twilight Struggle was the game that popularized the two-player experience, at least as far as I'm concerned.
  • Oh, for a long time. Forever.
  • it is what a lot of people think of when you say when you say, 'Name a two-player game.' Lost Cities.

  • Hey, I'm Jamie from Stonemaier Games and today I'm going to talk about my favorite mechanism in the game Tag Team, which I recently played on Board Game Arena.
  • And here's the key mechanism in the game, you'll decide where in your deck to insert that card. And I think this is an incredibly clever decision.
  • I really like this. I I I mentioned a few other games including Deus that that does this, where you have an icon that's easy for you to see once you know what it means, it's easy for your opponent to see from across the table, but if you want to know exactly what it means in the context of the game in general, you have a full text explanation right there in front of you. You don't have to reference a separate reference card. I love this.
  • So, this this this icon is the entire card. That is what you are getting when you play this card. But, it explains, 'You place a concentration token on your opponent. If your opponent already has a concentration token, uh you attack with the power of your opponent, then take back the concentration token.' They've inserted icons into the text here as well.

  • Dual-character play — Players select or randomize two fighters per game, with each fighter contributing distinct abilities and a shared power path, enabling varied synergies.
  • Healing and support actions — Markers track health; actions such as Chi Focus allow healing to bring a fighter back into the fight, sustaining pressure.
  • Opponent-read and counterplay — Players infer likely moves from revealed cards, enabling shields, rage boosts, or counterplays to disrupt the opponent.
  • Rage tracker and form transformation — A rage meter builds up, and when it peaks a fighter triggers a powerful form (e.g., Bodvar’s bear form) that can deal outsized damage.
  • Special abilities and card interactions — Cards like Crippling Touch and Jing Balance create meaningful counterplay and power shifts, shaping what options remain available.
  • Strength manipulation and swing potential — Certain cards can boost a fighter’s strength through successful blocks or triggers, enabling dramatic comebacks or rapid finishes.
