Description

Summer of 1941. The Axis invasion of the Soviet Union has begun! Will the vaunted German blitzkrieg prove its invincibility once again? Or will the Soviet Union endure the onslaught long enough to rebuild its might and push back the enemy? Lead the battle-hardened forces of Wehrmacht through unimaginably vast enemy territory or take control of the badly outmatched Soviet Red Army and bide your time for a bloody and devastating counteroffensive. The fate of the war is in your hands!

Iron, Blood, Snow & Mud is a low complexity, quick-playing two-player game that gives you control of all German and Soviet forces on the Eastern Front: infantry, armor, and support units (aircraft and fleets). It’s played over the course of four years, each consisting of three markedly different seasons, two of which – the aptly named Mud and Snow – inhibit the use of some actions and units. The movement and its range are predicated on the current season, unit type, and the ability to create and maintain a chain of units.

Featuring

  • introductory-level wargame
  • innovative mechanics and fast-paced gameplay
  • easy to learn, hard to master

Quotes (from this video)
  • The iconography on this game you got to learn and have the manual right there with you because even though it seems pretty straightforward it took us a while to get a grasp of it.
  • It is ingenious how they did that but it's somewhat confusing because I kept had to get my mind wrapped around it.
  • However way you plan your tactics will tell you whether you want or lose.
  • It's teaching you computer programming is what it's doing.
  • It's just a fun little stupid game but it's challenging in that you're having to make sure that your program works and I never feel like you're being penalized when you screw up you just have to figure it out.
