Description

Legends say that at the end of every rainbow lays a pot of gold guarded by the mischievous mythical creature, the Leprechaun. In Dice Treasure players must carefully match the colors and values of their cards to invoke the seven colors of the rainbow and steal the Leprechaun’s treasure.

Over multiple rounds, players take turns rolling dice from the bag and placing them on their cards looking to fill the patterns and collect gold coins. As the turns (composing a round) progress, the dice count decreases by one die and when the second-to-last turn starts, players incomplete cards will be available for opponents to fill and collect too and dice from the reserve and the common pool will become very useful.

At the end of the game, players add the gold collected from their pattern cards plus the color tokens and public objective cards earned to find out who is the best treasure hunter.

Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • dice rolling and pattern placement — Roll five dice and place on patterns; some spaces restricted by color or number; cannot place adjacent.
  • End condition — The game ends when a target score is reached; example given for three players is 18.
  • end of round and reset — Unfinished cards are swept out; rounds reset for the next set.
  • holding and saving dice — Up to two dice may be retained from turn to turn; remaining dice added to a common supply.
  • leprechaun's bonus and icons — Icons on completed patterns can be used to claim a leprehorn's bonus and extra coins.
  • patent cards and coin scoring — Completing patent cards earns coins; first to reach three coins in any rainbow color earns a color bonus.
  • private/public patent pool twist — Players work on their own patent cards until three dice are rolled; unfinished cards go to a common pool for others to finish.
  • round progression with diminishing dice — Rounds proceed with five dice, then four, then three; dice count decreases each round.
  • trading with the middle — On their turn, a player may trade one of their dice with one from the middle to open up more patent options.
