Transcript
Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the discriminating gamer. You know my child has a great deal of willpower and even more won't power. Today we're taking a look at 1862 war in Virginia. Now this is a Civil War campaign game where you're basically playing as a Confederates against the Union. The Union's kind of run by an AI. Um, but it's one of the um the Warthingington solitaire type games. And I absolutely love these solitire games, but this one looks a little different than the other ones. All right. Um, it, you know, it's got it board, it's counters, but there's just some some components. It's got some cards in it. And a lot of the other ones don't really have um cards and to that nature. They're just like tokens moving around the board based on dice rolls and everything else. So, I'm excited for this one. So, I'll tell you what. Let's go down to the table. Let's open this one up and let's see what's on the inside.
All right, folks. Here we go. This is 1862 War in Virginia from, of course, Worthington Games right down here. Let's flip this guy over and take a look at it. And what do we have? This is going to be a solo game, ages uh 14 and up. And victory is going to be within about 30 minutes. So, a lot of these games are really short. Um, but you know what? I I find there's a lot of depth in these games. There's just so much good stuff in there. There's a lot of decisions that have to be made. So, let's get this one open and let's see how this one compares to some of the other ones in this series that we have seen. Okay, but I'll tell you, I absolutely love these solitary games. Love the artwork on that cover. All right, now these the small little Worthington solo games are some of my favorites to take with me on trips. All right, let's see. We're going to get a little bit of a rule book on the inside. Let's get this thing opened up. Slide that out of the way. Let's see what we have. Okay, so we're going to have our game board right here. List of all of our components.
Let's see. Confederate. All right. VP marker. Okay. Now, here's our setup, our sequence of play each turn. Playing some action cards. All right. And see, this is a little bit different. I don't remember cards being in in these games. Now, I don't think I've seen every one of them, but most of them, but but a lot of them aren't really card based, so I'm excited to see how the card base is going to work in here. All right. Now, we got the Confederate player actions. All right. Adjusting the political pressure track, how to win the game, very important. And then key game terms are going to be on the back. So the rules are pretty light on all these games, but like I said, there's some usually some really good depth to them. Now, we got our tokens. All right, let's take a look at all those so you can kind of see what we have. All right, and the back side of those tokens looks like it's going to be basically the same as the front. Okay, works for me. Now, let's get this board out here. Now, this board on this one is actually really good size. So, we may have to kind of pan this camera up just a little bit.
So, let's see what we got cuz this one's got a lot of folds to it. Oh, it's actually not too bad. Okay, I do like it. All right, so it's got some little bends in it and everything else, but that's quite all right. And I'll tell you what, I can actually take care of this. Let's kind of slide this up just a little bit so we can get most of this in here. So, what do we got? the Lincoln political pressure track right here. Okay, we got move man, we got move Lee, the Davis political pressure. So, it looks like we're going to have probably a tug of war on this track down over here. Okay, so Lee's not in play. We got our Confederate reserves, our Marramac in play. We got our sequence of play right up here on the top. Always good to have that. And then there you go. So, it looks like we're just going to have like maybe a couple of these these points that that's probably what you're looking at to take control of.
Very cool. I do like the look of it. Now, what do we have on the back? Oh, very interesting. This is actually a really cool map. I don't know if this is actually used in the game. I don't think it is, but that is great. That is a great map that's on the back of this. Absolutely love that. That's really cool. So, it looks like there's like little battle keys on there. So, here, let me pull this up for you. You get a closer look. But it looks like these are all the spots where there were actually battles going on during in Virginia [clears throat] during this war time. Ah, very cool. All right, let's get this thing folded up and we'll get it back over here. So, what do we have? We have some cards we're going to add. Look at And then we have just one regular dice, which looks perfectly good to me. So, nice round corners, too, on that dice. Do like rounded corner dice better than square corner dice. I might be in the majority there. I don't know. You guys got to let me know what you like. But all these cards are basically going to be the same on the back. It's gonna be one deck. So, let's go ahead and take a look at them. Pause if you want a closer look at these. Okay. Not sure if there's any duplicates in here. There's not a lot of cards. I can't imagine there'd really be too many if there is.
All right. But you're going to get the idea of what we have here. Yeah. See, like attacks against the Union Valley Army or Washington if adjacent apply plus one DRM, which is really nice. So yeah, whoever has the card and the ability is going to get the bonus type. But yeah. Okay. Okay. It looks like nice just actual stills rather than artwork in this game. I do like that. Okay. Especially on these the history stuff like this. Yeah. I mean I do like some good artwork. But you know what? I am never opposed to when they just use steels or actually you know just old photos photo steals. I don't know why I can't say that word very well. But there you go. But that folks is all that's in this game. This box. There's not a lot in here. But there isn't usually a lot in these boxes. But they pack a punch.
Oh my gosh. And all these tokens are going to fit down in that one little spot. Let's go ahead and put that right there. Get our rules on top. It's a little bit of lid lift right now until we get that that punched. But that's it. That folks is the War of 1862 in Virginia. See if we can actually get this down here just a little bit more. So you can take a look at that cover one last time. Absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to get this one played. All right, let's head back up top. Let's close this out. All right, folks. There you go. But that was 1862, the War in Virginia. And I'll tell you, man, the game looks really good. Really good. Take a look at that cover one more time. Absolutely love the look of that. Very nice. Okay, now this one looks really unique. Um, I love these little solo solitire games that they have in this one here. It's got the cards. It's going to be able to do different things. Okay, the board looks great. And like I said, what is it? This thing plays in about 30 minutes. So, they're fast little games and they're always a little fun. I can't wait to give this one a try. It looks like it's going to be a little different than the traditional ones that they have been uh coming out with. Um so hey, yeah, I got to get this one to the table and I got to get this one played. Well, thank you once again for joining us today.
