Hey everybody, I'm Tom Vasel.

And I'm Wendy Yi.

Today we're taking a look at Sushi Go Party Chef's Special. This is a brand new version of Sushi Go Party. So Sushi Go originally came out in a very small box. It was a drafting game.

Mhm.

And then they made Sushi Go Party, which added a bunch more cards.

Variety for sure.

Yep. And now this is This is essentially another Sushi Go Party.

And it's completely stand-alone, which I think is really important to know. Yeah.

Yeah, so they don't have to worry about knowing about the other games. But if you've played the other games, I will say everything in here is completely different than what you've seen before other than the um nigiri? I always mis- pronounce it.

Nigiri.

Nigiri. Got it.

Except for if you played the the collector's edition. Some of the desserts from that are in here.

Ah, okay. Well, did not know that. All righty. Well, let's take a look at this. Um Wendy's going to show you how to play it, and we'll be right back.

Sushi Go Party Chef Special is a whole new set of Sushi Go Party. So all of these cards that you can add in are different other than the basic cards, which are the nigiris. It also has slots here in the insert for the previous Sushi Go Party game along with the dividers for that. So if you have that original game, there's totally space for that to fit directly in this box. The layout of the board is a little bit different, and they're going to give you a few more options. Uh so we have the board over here, and these are double-sided, and they tend to give you different options of how you want to lay out your the quantity of appetizers and desserts. So we have sweet treats with lots of desserts. Um we have super specials, which four specials are available on that. We have appetizers a la carte with four appetizers that can be played. And then finally the original recipe, which matches the previous games.

To explain how basic Sushi Go works, players are going to have a hand of cards. They're going to choose one of these cards from their hand. They're going to place it face down in front of them. Uh pass along this deck of cards to the next player to their left. And then everyone simultaneously is going to reveal the card that they just drafted. Then you receive the hand of cards that someone just finished with to your right. You receive them. You'll pick another card and do the exact same thing. Flip it over all simultaneously to reveal it. Pass that along. Receive a new hand of cards. And we'll do this until this entire deck is empty and you finally receive one last card that is the final person's rejection. Then you'll go through and you're going to score every card that you have except for the desserts. These are going to wait till the very end of the game because you don't eat desserts in the middle of your meal. You eat them at the end.

Now every card says at the bottom exactly how it scores as well as there are these little dividers that are all laid out explaining all the cards that are in the deck. Now I mentioned before that there are different setups. And so these appetizers, the specials, the desserts, the rolls, these all change every single game. And like I mentioned before, the box holds the original stuff like the original Sushi Go Party. Um and those can all be mixed in variably in here as well. Now there are a couple cards that do some interesting things and I just want to point like this one out uh here. And I don't know if you can see in camera, but you can slightly see the number on this. But this is a heat-sensitive, heat-activated card. So when you place your warm finger on it, it reveals a number. Uh the only thing is these little pufferfish you can actually see them uh up close before the reveal. However, there's another dessert card that does the exact same thing um and it does not show through.

All right. So I know that that was brief, but I did want to show you just a few things that are available in this game. Um and I don't want to spoil them all. But just know that this plays just like Sushi Go Party did before except where it has this little variable recipe options up here. All right. Well, let's go back to the studio and share our thoughts.

All right. I got two things to say about components, one bad and one good. The bad one, unfortunately, as cool as it is, the rubbing the cards

transfer.

transfer

that and I don't know if you can see it very well in the video, but yeah, I showed that briefly.

On one of them, it's it's it's impossible to play with, unfortunately.

You know what? We figured this out. So, if you always have it as a back card when you're drafting, then you cannot see it. I mean, you have to You have to kind of go out of your way and agree at the table and if it ever becomes the only thing left in hand because we did one time have a handful of four of them, uh we just took a random card from the deck and put it backwards to cover it. It's a lot of finagling.

We rolled a die.

Oh, okay.

So, but again, you shouldn't have to do that.

yes.

Um the dessert ones with the heat transfer were much better. Those Those Those for some reason worked better. It's just how it is.

Which is interesting cuz in the special collector's edition, the heat transfer was so difficult to warm up, you couldn't see the number. So, they went to opposite the other way.

Now,

So, they're trying.

that's my bad thing. The good thing is this box has a very good way to store everything and not only does it store everything in this game, but it stores everything from the Sushi Go original party one will fit in here. And that's so good that I made this video. So, you can watch it. I'm going to show it to Wifey now cuz she hasn't seen it yet. I've been wanting to do this for years.

[snorts]

I hate tins. Show them the carnage. Okay, so, that is the end of that tin. And and honestly, we're just going

glad that you took the cards out cuz I was a little worried at first. I was like, "Oh, no." Cuz I'm going to buy

that big of a monster.

Okay, well, I'm going to buy personally another copy of regular Sushi Go Party cuz I want my backs to match. So, I would have just crushed it with cards in it.

Whoops. Well, anyway, it doesn't matter. Um I'm still putting it in here. I'm replacing the one in the Dice Tower library exactly with this one. But, tins don't fit on the shelves anyway. Um but, I so I like that. All right, let's talk about the game itself. It's good. It's great even. It's It's drafting.

Yeah, I love So, I am a huge fan of of regular basic Sushi Go. I've been a fan along the whole way. This is like in my top 10. Like, I love Sushi Go.

Like, top 10 of all time?

Yes.

Oh, well, then you might you like it more than I do. I mean, I really like it.

I adore this game. Yes. It's It's literally like the let's pull out with weeknight game. Like, let's just we want to play anything. This can play with any group of people. I've played this with teenagers at church that have never played board games before. I played this with heavy gamers. Like, this is just a game that I can literally bring out for any situation, anybody, anywhere. I love it.

I uh I mean, I agree with everything you said there. It's not my favorite games, but I think it is it is in my top 10 games of that category.

Mhm.

Uh you guys never played games before? Here you go. Even if you did, me and my family we just played over and over again with this. I think some of the cards are more fun than others.

Sure.

Like, my I think my favorite card in this is maybe is the lemon or the sour candy, which makes it's three points, but your next one's random. And that fits well with a lot of different cards.

I actually really like the lotus chips in this.

The lotus chips are

They're you're trying to get them in sequence. They're

Yeah, that's trickier. That's one I would not introduce to people never played before.

Oh, no, for sure not. And it it removes an appetizer while it adds in cuz it adds twice as many cards. So you really notice

Yes.

when that's added cuz it adds so many.

There's so many good things about this game that the ease of collection, everyone's figuring things out. Some of the Some of the cards seem like they'll be more worth more points than they are. For example, the uh the row cards where you're multiplying them, you're like, "Ooh, how big of a number can you get?" Like, "Six."

Yeah, like not that.

It's It's not going to be a ton of points. Or there's ones where you're fighting over the majority and like, "Whoever has the most gets four." Yeah, you know, that's not a lot of points comparatively. Meanwhile, I'm taking nigiri and going three, three. And there are some cards in the original set that I like the original Sushi Go Party I like better. Like I I still love the triple card. The next nigiri you take is triple.

For sure the wasabi.

But that's fixed by mixing them together, right? But I also want to say they added a ton of content in the rulebook here. There's so much extra. They've a nice two-player variant which they definitely didn't steal from

variants.

Seven Wonders Duel.

Yeah, there's that one plus like three other possibles.

And there's different ways to play. There's a different board. So you really you've content for days, but even if you don't you're like just want to play basic, just switching things out does a lot of

I also really like that in original Sushi Go Party, there was a track and I really appreciate that there's no track now. It's just little point tokens because I was always accidentally bumping someone else's marker.

Yeah. Well,

So just little like little quality of life upgrades plus a ton of content.

Yeah. Simple fun, easy drafting, the game plays in 20 minutes. Um it plays up to eight players. Uh eight is a lot to go around especially with some of the cards don't work as well with eight like majorities and things like that. But for six, it's really solid.

the cards don't work so well with two like the the roles like go to your left neighbor, go to your right neighbor.

Yeah.

in here. I'm giving it an 8.5. It is a superbly good drafting game. I'm assuming this is a 10. If it's in your top 10, yes.

yeah. Hands down, this is a 10. This is just more of what I wanted. This is exactly what I wanted like a decade ago. Um and so I'm I'm happy that this came out.

Well, there you go, folks. That's Sushi Go Party Chef's Special. I'm Tom.
