Nakasendo - Teach & Playthrough
Transcript
Hi everyone, my name is Monique
and I'm Naveen from Before You Play
and today we're be doing a playthrough of a game called Nakasendo.
Yes, this game is designed by Jorge Tabanera Redando and published by Little Rocket Games who are helping sponsor this playth through. Now in this game players are going to be traveling along the historic route known as the Nakasendo route in feudal Japan. We're trying to basically build out our own paths to do it the best while also encountering snow and bears and trying to avoid them as much as possible.
That's right. This is a Thailand game for two to four players that plays in about 30 to 45 minutes in which players will need to add path tiles to their nakasendo of varying types of terrain, add discovery tokens, and also resolve events in an effort to have the highest scoring Nakasendo at the end of the game. And so today, as per usual, we are going to start with the tea to the game and go straight into our two-player playthrough. If you'd like to jump around, we'll include timestamps in the description below.
Now, if you'd all us a big favor and turn on your cling on subtitles if we make any mistakes, we can add corrections there or in a pin comment. And lastly, if you like these kind of videos and you want to see more in the future, please consider subscribing.
And with that, we are ready to begin. So, if you'd please direct your attention to this side of the table, we're all set up here for a two-player game of Nakasendo. Welcome to Feudal Japan.
Yes, it begins.
Now, like we're mentioning, in this game, players are competing to build the highest scoring Nakasendo, which historically is the route between Edeto, which is modernday Tokyo, and Kyoto. So, over the course of nine rounds or 10 rounds in a two-player game, we're going to be taking turns adding path tiles to elongate our necrosendo, as well as adding these discovery tokens, which all scored in different ways at the end of the game, while also encountering these various challenges, which will require us to add snowflakes and bear tokens to our Nakasendo, potentially scoring us negative points. And once the game is over, we are going to walk our hiker mele through the longest connected route throughout our grid because the tiles that are in that path will be the only tiles that we actually score points and lose points from. And at that point, whoever has the most points wins. Now, turn structure is actually very simple.
At the start of each round, we'll always start by resolving the event, which is always going to be the top card of the event deck, with the exception of the first round.
So, again, this is the event that we're going to be resolving at the start of the second round. So, you'll always know one round ahead of time what the event in the future is going to be. And we're going to explain how to resolve this a little bit later.
Each round, starting with your first player and going clockwise, on your turn, you'll take two actions. And actions are going to be either adding a path tile to your Nakasendo or adding a discovery token to an existing path tile that is in your Nakasendo. Now, both path tiles as well as discovery tokens come in one of five different types of terrain. We have water, flowers, rock, forest, and field. Now, when adding a path tile to your Nakasendo, the path tile must be orthogonally adjacent to a tile that's already in your Nakasendo. And each player will have a starting tile in their player color. This is going to be the only tile that allow you to double back on your path. And when placing, you can actually choose to rotate your tile. It just must be on the vertical axis because tiles are not allowed to be placed horizontally like this. They can only be placed vertically in your necasendo. So I could do that if I wanted to or I could do this if I'd like to actually form a path. In addition, you're never allowed to place tiles outside of the confines of a 4x4 grid. And in the future, if I change my mind about a certain path tile, I can overbuild. Now, with that in mind, at the end of the game, you are going to locate the longest contiguous path that is in your Nakasendo that has one entrance and one exit. and you will only be allowed to score points from those tiles, which is why you need to be very cautious about how you build out your path. Discovery tokens, on the other hand, are placed on top of path tiles in the center, just like this, with the exception of your starting tile. You can never place a discovery token on them.
Now, there are six different types of discovery tokens in the game, and they all score in different ways. And so we'll talk about how they score later, but in addition to their unique scoring condition, discovery tokens will score you two points if you place them on a path tile that has matching terrain. So in this example, I would not score the additional two victory points at the end for this pairing because this discovery token is of the rock terrain type and it's placed on a water path tile.
Yeah. So if you played this one on there, then you would score the two points.
Yes. And just like path tiles, you can overbuild on discovery tokens with other discovery tokens, but only the topmost token is going to score at the end of the game. There is one sort of exception, which is the observation point, which will score you depending on which tiles are stacked underneath it, but that is the one exception. And again, on your turn, you're taking two actions. So each of these placements would be one action each. And in this example, I actually took both of these tiles from my supply. But alternatively, if you'd like to take a tile from another player's supply as an action, you can do so. It's just that they would gain a benefit. So, if instead of placing that tile, I wanted to place this tile from Naveen's supply as a reward, he would gain an extra action token. And these are exactly what they sound like. On his turn, he'll be able to spend that token to take an additional action.
Yes. So, instead of taking two actions, I could potentially take a third one. And at the end of the game, if you have not spent these tokens, each one is worth two points. And that's essentially how a turn works. Now, the last thing is before you end your turn, you may optionally reserve either a path tile or a discovery token from either the market or from another player's supply. And to do so, you would place your hiker mele on the tile that you'd like to reserve because on a future turn as an action, instead of placing from your supply or another player supply, you can always place the tile that you reserved. And that is the only way for you to place a tile directly from the market display. Mhm. Now, a couple of things to keep in mind is that reserving must be the last thing you do on your turn. And just because you reserved a tile does not mean it's safe from other players taking it. Because let's just say, as an example, instead of reserving that tile, I reserved this path tile that is in Naveen supply.
Mhm.
On his very next turn, he can choose to place that path tile in his Nakascendo. But because I reserved that tile, if he were to do so, I would take my mele back and I would score two victory points immediately. So, a big component of this game is recognizing what tiles you think may be valuable for your opponent, putting yourself in a position where you're reserving that tile, forcing them to basically give you two points,
right? And the same thing is true for tiles that you reserve that are in the market. Because at the end of your turn, all players who have fewer than three tiles in their supply refill their supply by taking tiles from either the market display or from the draw decks. So, in this example, because I only have two of my total three tiles that I'm supposed to have, if I was to refill with this one,
Mon'nique would then get two points. So, she would get her mele back
cuz I was the one who reserved that.
She'd be the one to reserve it. Yeah. So, that's just something to be aware of. And to be clear, only one person can ever reserve the same tile. So, if I have this on here, Mo'Nique could not then put her mele on top of the same exact tile.
But that's essentially how a turn works. And once each player has taken a single turn, the net ends a round and we move on to the next round where again we always start a round by resolving the round's current event card. Event cards will require us to add a combination of snowflake tokens and bear tokens on path tiles of specific terrain that are in our naso. When resolving these cards, the number of total snowflakes you're required to add depends on which round we're in. So in the first few rounds, it's only one snowflake, then two, and eventually three. And in the final round, it'll be a total of four snowflake tokens. And when adding these snowflakes to your Nakasendo, you must distribute them to the types of path tiles with a specified terrain. So in this example, they must be placed on water path tiles, which in this example, I only have one, so there really is no choice. There is a specific type of discovery token that will score you points for snowflake tokens. But in general, they will score you negative points because at the end of the game, for each path tile that is along your Nakasendo that has either three or four snowflake tokens on them, it'll score you minus two victory points. And each path tile that has five or more snowflakes will score you minus four victory points.
But again, that's only on path tiles that are part of your longest path,
right? Similarly, bears will also score you minus one victory point, but it's actually going to be per bear symbol. And some path tiles have bear symbols already on them.
And for each bear token that are on your path tiles that are part of that longest path. But when resolving these event cards, you will only ever add one single bear token to a path tile of that specified terrain.
So even if I had two rock terrains, I would only add one bear to my entire Nakasendo.
Right? And that's essentially how we resolve these event cards. Once we're finished, we'll flip it over so that we can see what the event is for the next day, which means we always have that one day of knowledge and we'll continue playing. At the end of the fourth round, we'll have an intermediary scoring period where we will score both tokens C and A. And these are going to vary each game. These will basically score us the specified number of points for each type of tile that meets its criteria along our entire grid. The longest path aspect only matters at the very end of the game.
Now, each of these scoring tiles are represented twice. So you'll see C scored at the end of the fourth round and then again at the end of the ninth round. Now if you remember uh on your turn when you put out a path tile, you can always overbuild over another one. You will not take the one that you overbuilt into account when scoring this.
And speaking of overbuilding, when doing so, you'll actually discard any snow tokens, bear tokens, and discovery tokens that are on the tile that you are overbuilding. So keep that in mind if you decide to do so.
It could be uh a nice strategy though if you've accumulated a lot of negative points. you can just kind of crush it and get rid of it.
As soon as we've scored all three of the intermediary scoring tokens, we will play one final round before we go into final scoring. Then at that point, we must first identify what our true Nakasendo is by finding the longest path that contains only one entrance and one exit. Then we'll first gain victory points for each of the discovery tokens that are along its path. And again, there are six different types of discovery tokens, and they each score in different ways. First, we have the Juku. They will score victory points based on the total number of dooku that are along your path. Having only one will score you two victory points, but having all the way up to five will score you 15. Samurai will score you three victory points per samurai if they are of different terrain. Temples will score you two victory points, and you will not lose any points for having snowflakes or bare symbols or tokens on the tile in which it is placed. So, just like in this example. Next, we have the wheel, which is actually beneficial if you have a lot of snowflake tokens because you'll gain one victory point for each snowflake token that is on its path tile, as well as all orthogonally adjacent tiles. Which means if you have a wheel that is adjacent to a temple, you'll gain the points for the snowflake tokens on the temple's path tile while avoiding losing points for them.
So, you're gaining the points because of the wheel, but not losing points because of the temple.
Yes. Next, we have the bell that prevents you from losing points via bare symbols and tokens that are on its tile as well as any orthogonally adjacent tiles. And finally, we have the observation point. And this is going to be the tile that you want to stack on top of other tiles because at the end of the game, you'll score two victory points for each tile of different types of terrain that is underneath the observation point. And that includes the path tile that's at the very bottom. And that is how each of the unique types of discovery tokens score. Now again, you'll also score two additional victory points for each discovery token if it matches the terrain type of the path tile that it is placed on. You also score two points for each extra action token you have left over. And finally, you'll lose victory points for each of the bare symbols and tokens along your Nakasendo, as well as each path tile that has three or more snowflake tokens on them. And at that point, whoever has the most points wins. In the case of a tie, the tide player who has fewer bear symbols and tokens on their Nekosendo wins the game. And that's essentially how you play Nakasendo. So for now, we'll get cleaned up and we'll get started with our play through.
Okay, we're all set up. We're ready to go. We just have to figure out who's going to be going first. Let's do evens and odds. What do you want?
Odds. Uh odds.
Odds. One, two, three.
Even I go first.
Navina is going to be the first player. And so again, we are playing a two-player game. And in a two-player game, we're going to be playing a total of 10 rounds.
Right
now, for the first round, we are not going to resolve an event. But if you joined us for the teach, you will know that this is going to be our first event for the next day. Keep in mind if you want to add water, you're going to have to add a snowflake uh to that water path tile.
It's it's this is going to happen like as you start to build out these events are going to cause a little havoc. These represent basically the challenges and obstacles along this treacherous path.
Yes. All right. Well, here we go. Naveen. Starting with round one. You're going to be our first player. Again, on your turn, you're going to take two actions and so you can choose to take tiles from his supply or mine. Mine are here.
If I take from you, Mon'nique will get the
extra action tokens.
Actions are good.
Uh, and remember 4x4. We have to remember 4x4. You cannot start building out 5x3 or anything like that.
Yeah, don't do that.
Okay. So, first action I'm going to take, the very first action in the game is I'm going to take my own tile right here.
Okay.
I'm taking this one because I know that we are trying to score C.
Yes, that's going to be fields.
Fields. Yeah. So, I want some fields in my entire Nakasendo. Uh, it doesn't matter if if these are connected, but I want this to be connected.
Yeah,
might as well get
it has to be orthogonally adjacent to your starting
style. Yeah. So, I could do it there. I could do it there. I could also flip it upside down. Right now, it technically makes no difference. So, I'll just put it right here. There's so much to grow off of that.
That's true.
And for my second action, I will take
this. Yeah, I'll take that from you.
Oh, okay. Well, I get a an extra action token since the is taking from my supply.
So kind of me.
Thank you. Thank you.
Again, you cannot have it sideways,
right? So, this is not legal.
Not legal.
Uh, but I will take it and put this here.
Just like that. So, we're creating a little loop.
Little sum.
Very nice. So, those are two actions. Now, before you end your turn,
it is optional. You don't have to do this, but you can reserve something from either my supply or the market display using your hiker. You
I'm going to reserve this temple right there.
Okay. Interesting. All right. Well, that is the end of Naveen's turn. If at the end of your turn you have fewer than three tiles of any type, then you have to refill. And this is always going to start via the player sitting to the left of the active player.
Start with me cuz I Naveen stole a tile. Use the tile. I gave you an extra action.
That's true. I can choose to take from the face up market display or I can choose to take from the face down decks.
Yes. Oh, and by the way, you do not have to refill the same type of goodre tile. So, she does not have to take a path tile. She could have two discovery tiles, even have three discovery tiles at some point.
Any combination. Now, what I don't want to do, however, is I do not want to refill using this discovery token here because that'll give Naveen two victory points. So, I'm going to refill from the top of one of these two decks. I'm going to take a path tile. Let's see what it is. Ooh, it's a rock tile. I like that. All right. Now, Naveen refills because you also have fewer than three.
Yeah. So, I will take this path tile here.
Okay.
Put it right there. All right. So, then now we're going to refill.
I'm going to refill. So, I'll take it. Do you care?
Doesn't matter.
Okay. There you go.
Oh, look at this.
It's a field. All right. Speaking of field, let's just kind of go over the scoring criteria before we get too far. There are three different scoring tokens. We have A, B, and C. A, and C pertain to specific types of terrain on both path tiles and discovery tokens that are anywhere on our grid. So for as an example, the first scoring uh round, we're going to score both C and A. So field tiles are going to score us two points each, whereas the water tiles will score one point because there's a number underneath the tile.
The B tiles, however, are called composition tiles because they score you points for path tiles that have whatever is on the token. In this example, it's going to be path tiles with snowflake tokens on them. They'll score us two points each time we're scoring for B. So, for my first action, I'm going to add this path tile to my next. I think I'm going to go here.
Okay.
So, something kind of similar to what you did, but this way, I think.
Sure.
Um, then it is tempting to add this discovery token to this path tile. They're the same type of terrain. This is a juku. It'll score me depending on how many of them I have in my entire Nakasendo. Yeah,
but I know that we're going to have to add a bear token to rock terrain if we have it, which means this is going to get a bear token. And again, those are minus one victory points at the end of the game,
unless you have a temple on that tile. Then it makes it so that you don't lose any points for bears and snowflakes.
Yeah.
So, I think for my second action, I'm going to
You're taking mine?
Yeah, I'm going to take yours. You gave me a free action. I'll give you action, please.
So, there's your extra action
because Monique took from my supply.
Yes,
I get that benefit.
I'm going to place this here.
Okay.
So, this is a temple. At the end of the game, I'll score two victory points for it. And I don't have to worry about bears and snowflakes on that tile.
And if you don't overbuild on this entire path or on this discovery token, then it's an additional two points because they match.
Yes, that is true. All right. I think I'm going to save this extra action for later.
Okay.
And I am going to reserve this field.
I know we both kind of want that, so might as well score points for it, I think, or be able to take it, right?
Why not?
All right. So, refill. Starting with you.
Uh, okay. I'm going to top deck. I'm going to take from here. Let's see what we got.
Oh, discovery.
So, now this is becomes interesting because we now see samurai of two different types of terrain.
Yeah,
you you want to collect samurai of all different terrain.
That is how they score.
That's how they score. You get three for each one of different terrain.
Yes, that's true. All right. Now, I get to refill and I'm going to top deck again. I'll take another path tile. Oh, it's a field. I got my own field right here.
Another one.
Another one. All right. That is the end of the first round. So, now we're going to move on to round two. This time resolving the event, which we already know what is going to happen, the known event.
So, first we each get a snow token. And it's going to be based on the round that we're in. Actually, because we're in this top row of rounds, it's only going to be one snow token each, but only if we have water in our Nakasendo. I do not have a water path, so I don't even I don't I don't actually take a snow.
So, you just take it. You just plop it down. It's not bad right now, but if the tile has three at the end of the game with no like safety, you know,
then they're negative points.
Then they're negative points. All right. Now, we will add a bear token if we have a rock terrain. So, that's just me,
but I have a temple, so it's actually not a bad thing, right?
All right.
Okay. Very good.
That's the event. So, now this gets discarded. And now we have the one on deck. This is going to be for tomorrow.
It's just snow on raw. Okay.
But but this protects it.
I know. That's why I'm actually excited about that. kind of worked out
because if I can get the wheel I think it is over here then snowflakes will be a positive place
as long as it's part of the path.
As long Yeah. As long as
I'm seeing no uh pathway.
No, no, no. But the it can be a
you got to figure out a way. Yeah, it depends on how it comes out.
All right. Well, it is to you. Day two.
All right. Day two for me. So, now that I have my hiker mele out as a third option. So, option one is from me. Option two is from Mo'Nique, but she gets the extra action. Option three is actually placing the one from the supply wherever they are.
Yeah. Yeah. And in that case, you would get your hiker meuple back.
Exactly. Yeah. So, I will do that as one of my two actions. So, I'm going to take this one. I'm going to put this obviously right here.
Nice.
Because the temple now they're they're the same color.
Yeah.
Uh this also protects me from the bears. And now I can start hoarding a bunch of uh snowflakes here. And that's fine.
Yeah. And even though this tile came with the bear symbol, even that is Yeah. That's nullified because of the temple.
Yeah. And then if I left this out here on this tile, then I cannot just pick it up and then go reserve something else. It it would just be stuck on that tile there
until somebody Yeah. somebody either plays it or takes it.
Yeah, exactly. So, as for my second action, I think I'm just going to get a little bit wider. I'm going to go from here and I will just put this tile there.
Okay.
We will see. Forest and Yeah, got some forest. We know events are going to come. Forests don't have anything to do with these, but
they are what they are. And I can't I can't take this from you. That That's the one thing
you can. It's legal. It's just two points to me.
No, I can't take it and place it
in the same That's true.
I would have to take it into my reserve. You would get the two points and then I'd have to survive a turn to then take it. Yeah.
Yeah.
So, that was action two. So, the first one was the one I reserved. Action two is here. Now, it's my choice. Do I want to play out this one?
Um, you know what?
You can take a third action.
I'm going to do it.
Okay.
This one matches.
Spit.
There it is.
Spend your token. So, I've got three points there plus another two points cuz they match.
Yeah.
And now I want to start collecting more and more of these
samurai.
Exactly.
Okay.
So, why not?
Reserve that.
There you go. We'll see what happens.
All right. Well, you were the only one refilling. Yeah.
So, you get to take two.
Let's top it.
Top deck. Okay. You get a path tile. You get a third.
What would you like?
I'm going to do another I'm going to do another path.
Another path. Three paths.
Three paths. Wow.
Path.
So, 4x4 is the max. So, you know.
I know.
All right. So, we're going to refill the discovery token.
What do you got here?
Oh, it's the same type that you
type, though.
All right. For my first action, I'm going to play the tile that I reserved.
Okay.
So, taking this back. I doubt Naveen is going to take that.
Nope.
He doesn't want to give me the two points. So, I'll do that.
So, that is action one. Oops. Then for my second action, I think I'm going to place this one.
Okay.
Like this.
So,
you're creating your borders.
I'm creating some borders. Yeah. Look like this is going to be your four here
maybe.
Yeah,
because right now this
it dead end
goes around. So I could
loop back.
Loop back. I'm kind of selling my my grid short, right? Unless it goes like this.
I don't know.
Well, no. If you go that way, if you go out this way, then this is the dead end here. This becomes the end.
Yeah. This will have to loop.
Mhm.
You know, because then it can go like this. Loop up like that, you know. Well, this is one, two, three, and then hypothetical four, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah. Yeah. If this is the last on the left, then I can go I can build out this way. I need to have some sort of a vision.
That's kind of the the scary part.
Yeah.
Of this game. You just kind of free build and suddenly you're in trouble. So, you have to have a little bit of a vision for your path.
I don't know if I have a vision.
Oh, well, good luck. All right.
All right. Those are two actions. I could take a third using this, but you know, I don't know if I'm really into anything else. You see? Yeah.
Yeah. What I see. So, I'm gonna
You're gonna reserve this one.
Yeah.
Really?
I'm being kind of boring with my path.
She's being mean. My path selection.
She wants two points.
I do. All right. That's the end of my turn. So, I will refill um first. Maybe it's time for me to see more discovery tokens because we're not going to get any more there. So, I'm going to draw a discovery token. Oh,
water samurai.
Water samurai. Okay. And then we're going to refill the display.
Yes.
So, we've got forest
forest.
That's it. Right. That was day two. So, now we're going to go into day three and we're going to resolve the event. It's one snowflake for me.
For stone path.
For stone. Yes. Yes. For stone. Stone path terrain. We don't You don't have any?
No.
So, all right. Tomorrow will be forest. I do not have forest. That's going to be all you
and an unprotected uh path tile.
Yeah.
All right.
All right. I think you knew what you were doing with this. So,
yes, you're going to play that.
Yeah. I think I get back.
I get an extra
No, you get two points.
Oh, I get two points. That's right. That's right. That's right.
Two points for Mo cuz she's on the
This is for playing from my supply.
Yeah. So, if I left this here with that there and then Monique took it and used it.
Yeah.
Then she would get to use it and then because she took from my supply, I would get an extra action token. I wouldn't get the two points. So, let's take this one. And the reason why I want I want to do this now is because it's gonna score twice. Yes. Right. C here. C here. I'm giving you two points now.
For four points to you.
For four points to me. Yeah. So, it was it was a good play though on your part.
Yeah. Or else it would have been nothing to me if you just played it on your turn.
So, I'll do that.
Oh, interesting.
I've got some kind of
You're deleting. You're basically removing the ability to loop using your starting tile. Is that okay with you?
Well, no, it's not okay with me. Um, if I do this,
yeah, it's fine.
Then I can find a way to come back up. Yeah. Okay.
Okay. Yeah, I'll do that. I think that makes sense. Cuz if I do this, then that means like I've made my 4x4. Yes. That's not good.
So if I do this, then that means I have a way to do this and a way to come down, come back, and if I want to ensure that I can do that,
then if I do this,
Mhm.
then that means all I need to do is find another one like this. Right.
So you will need a tile that goes like this.
Yeah. until it goes like this.
Yeah. So, like it's I need this here
and then I need the inverse to come down here. But that's fine. They'll show up at some point, right?
Does make it a little tricky
tricky
cuz where is your planned entrance and exit?
I I got to figure
You're making like a closed circuit,
you know? True. Like where is the actual entrance?
Oh, you know what? This is this this would look lovely if it was a 3x4.
Uhhuh. But this is not going to work out in a 4x4 because I I'd be really like limiting myself. So I think Okay. Well, let me let me I'm still going to take these two tiles. I think
I'm going to form a loop here.
Okay.
Okay.
So, you've made your loop.
I've made a loop.
Now, you're still going to place this.
Yeah, cuz I gave you the two points.
Okay.
So, where I had this one before, I think can work.
Okay.
It was just It was just about the loop. So, I will I will keep this one originally where I had it.
Okay.
Okay.
There you go.
There we go. Okay. Did that become a little bit of a brain squeeze?
Yeah, my brain has trouble with like
feel like you have to ring out your brain for
it's just like I can't really see it and then
yeah,
when a tile presents itself and be like, "Oh, that'll work." But I have to prepare myself to have options for when tiles show up. So if you just put stuff out halfhazardly,
you're going to find yourself in in big trouble. So I don't want to do that.
Okay. Well, that was two actions, right?
Mhm.
All right.
Yeah. So this one is going to stay here.
Yes. because I did not use that actually.
So, you refill two more tiles.
So, I'll take this one.
Okay.
And then let's take a discovery tile. I'm going to take I'm not going to take this one because I already have one.
So, let's just take the one from this one.
Yeah.
Good luck.
What is it?
May it be what you wanted.
Okay. So, that's the one that you want to stack. Yeah. On top of other tiles. All right. So, we're going to refill the market. Let's just go from this one.
Sure. Oh,
we got it straight down. That's great. That's amazing. Okay. Well, it is my turn. Yeah.
I don't like it's tempting to try to go heavy on these two, but you want to have discovery tokens that match the path tiles. Yeah.
So, it's not always going to be it's not always going to be just fields and water, you know. So, for my first action, I'm going to place this here.
Okay. I
think I'm going to just place it like that.
So, you've established your 4x4 or like your four.
Yeah, my four width.
Then for my second action, I'm going to place this samurai here. Oh, interesting.
Because I could overbuild on this discovery token. Um, but if I do so after the first scoring, I'll still score the one point. You know what I mean? Yeah. For this discovery token.
So, that was two actions. I don't really feel the need to take a third. No, I'll leave it at that. Um, but I will reserve a tile. Let's go with this one. I'm going to reserve that path tile. All right. Fair enough.
So, I must refill. Oh, I could have refilled with that.
Yeah. Do you want to? Yes, I do.
So, you won't reserve reserve that one. I will still reserve just it'll be this one.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
Very good.
All right. So, now I'm going to refill. I refill two two. Yeah.
This one.
Okay.
And I could take this. Um
Yeah, it's a uh rock samurai.
Yeah, it would be a different type. You want that though?
I want that. You want that cuz you we're both in the samurai game now. M.
And what's nice is that green one is more up for grabs for you than than mine cuz I already have a green one.
Mhm. I'm going to go with the path tile.
Okay.
From the deck.
All right. We've got some forest. Okayest.
Let's refill here.
And then we're going to move to the final day before we have our first intermediate scoring. So, our event is going to be a single snowflake on forest. I don't have any forest.
I have on forest. Yeah,
but Naveen does.
Again, single snowflakes aren't bad. Two snowflakes is not bad. It's when it becomes three or more on a particular tile. Yeah.
Then it becomes a negative uh consequence.
On a future rounds, if you have several snowflake tokens that you need to place, but only one of the designated like type of terrain,
then you have to place them all on that one. That's kind of where you've
So that's where like something like what Mon'nique is doing with getting a lot of the uh the field terrain.
If round three or or like in section three or four,
then you can disperse them. Yeah,
but if you're very like uh you only have one type of one and then that becomes the event, then you have to shove them all on there. So, yeah, it's a kind of like a nice balance there.
All right, Naveen, it is your turn before we score C and A.
Okay, so I know I need to loop into this. So, I have this here.
I'll just put that there.
Okay.
Okay. There's no bears on it, which is nice.
Yeah.
Uh then I think I need to get this guy back.
Yeah.
So, I'll just do it.
You'll place that.
I'll just place it. And let's just place them. It's so hard because in the future when events show up,
maybe you want a temple to be where that would have been, right?
But if I put this down right now,
yeah,
then it's like that's it.
So, um,
you can always overbuild.
I can't overbuild. So, the way I see it is right now I have no idea what I'm doing.
I'm going to put it on this.
Okay.
And my reasoning for that is if something shows up that might uh be beneficial for forest,
uh, field or flowers, then I at least have one of each.
Okay. If I was to cover up a forest and something really nice for forest shows up. Now I don't technically have it right now. That's the way I see it.
So you want to keep your options open.
Options open. And I will actually put this one here
because this central tile here just in case maybe something that I can negate these bears and then it's at least closer to it.
Yeah. Smart.
I have no idea what's going to show up, but that's a that's a thought process.
Okay.
I will reserve you.
Really?
Yes.
Annoying.
I needed to. You heard me say, "Oh, I wanted that tile." I might
It's a nice tile.
I gave you two points. You can give me two points. I think that's fair.
No idea.
All right.
All right.
Well, refill.
It's interesting because I want I want both. I want discovery. I want another discovery, but I also want a terrain.
You can't have it all.
Can't have it all. No. Okay. I will take this one.
Okay.
With the bear. Why not?
All right. Let's go ahead and refill. So, we've got a path tile here. We've got a rock and a discovery. Another dooku on water.
See, that's good.
Okay, so it's back to me for my final turn before we do some scoring. This stinks if I Well, it's going to be the same reasoning that Naveen said where he'll score two points for it, but I'll score four, so I might as well do it. I wanted to I wanted to make him wait. I was going to hold it there and just not place it until later, and maybe if he placed it, he could place it. But I guess it is still in my best interest to place it now. So for my first action,
I'll take two points.
I'll place it. Go ahead. Take your two points. Let's do it.
Thank you.
Okay. I'm going to go here.
All right.
Uh that's my first action. And for my second action, I guess I'll place this H
begrudgingly.
Begrudgingly, it has a bear.
This single bear I'm not too happy about, but I'll place it there. So all I need is a little thing to complete this loop. So that was two actions. I'm still going to hold on to this. Did Did we move the event?
Did the event. Oh,
cuz I I got snow on it
cuz this was day two. This was day three.
Cuz I got snow. So, we should probably know what Oh my god.
That's okay.
It's going to be a snow
what it is
on. This is going to get snow. Um and then get a bear.
Oh well.
All right. So, those are my my two actions. I'll hold on to this and I will refill. You know, getting snow is actually not too bad because B
hasn't scored yet. So, anything with snow
is worth points. So, you kind of like want to get it and then like figure out
keep the minimum threshold or have a way to like mitigate the snow.
That's true. I'm going to refill with this.
Yeah, you got to do that.
Samurai on
pretty good one.
And then a path. I think a path, right? Let's go with this path, though.
That's a good one. Yeah.
Yeah. It's not bad. rock. Yeah, it's not bad.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. All right.
So, we're going to refill here.
So, we've got a discovery.
Ah, the wheel.
The wheel. The wheel. And then we've got a water.
The water.
All right. That is the end of day four. So, now we are going to have our first round of intermediate scoring. We've been prepping for this the entire game. We've been talking about it a lot. So, for this first scoring event, we are scoring uh one point for every tile, discovery, and path. that is just in your grid of the water terrain as well as the field terrain, but the field will score you two points.
Okay. So, um I have one, two water here. One, two. So, it's two points. And then my field is 1 2 3 4. So, a total of six points.
Yes.
So, I'm going to go to eight. And you have one.
I have one water.
Two, three, four, five, six, seven.
Yes.
So, you are now at nine. Okay. Here we go.
And that is it. So, now we're going to flip this over and we are moving into day five. So, for these next three days, it's going to be two snowflake tokens per event, which is going to be now.
Yeah.
So, first we're gonna take two snowflakes. Yeah.
And place them on forest.
So, there you go. So, Monique can have to put both on that same one.
Yes. They both go here.
That's fine.
It's not bad.
Still not negative.
I'm going to go one.
It's the same difference.
Well, I'm gonna put it here.
Okay.
Because this one already is reserved for a samurai.
Okay. I don't I would ideally not have to cover it up to try to resolve or like you know
to try to nullify the snowflake tokens.
Yeah, exactly. So, there's no bear here, but I'll just kind of keep it like that.
Okay, speaking of bear, we each get one.
Yeah,
that we must place
cuz you have flower, I have
on a flower.
So, really,
this one already has a bear.
It's a minus one.
Yeah.
All right. Tomorrow.
Oh.
Brings us snow.
Snow on the flowers.
On flower fields. Okay.
Nine, you're first.
Okay. All right. First action. I will place this one here.
Okay. Nice. I
think I got to do that.
So that is the end.
That's it. That's one of my entrances or exits if you want to call it that.
Okay. Very nice.
This this place is a dead zone right here. I There's always the overbuild option, right? But
you can still build there if you want to score like the field or water.
Exactly. Yeah. Or if there's like a card that's like that's going to get me a lot of snow,
toss it over here. It's not part of the path. So therefore, I don't have to worry about the snow penalty. So knowing that snow on these type of terrain, I'll take I'll take one of these.
Okay.
I think if I do this, that keeps me alive.
Okay.
Keeps me going.
So that was two actions.
That was two actions. Yeah.
Uh I will reserve the wheel.
Nice.
There we go.
Ah, the wheel is nice.
Wheel's good. Yeah. So I'll reserve the wheel and then uh I'm going to refill in. I'll take one. Ah, let's just see one. Come on. Oh, okay.
Oh, you got a bell.
The bell is is kind of nice.
It makes it so that you don't lose victory points on bare tokens and symbols on its path tile and all orthogonally adjacent. So, really nice.
If I had this one here, this would be like a really nice spot. It's 1 2 3 4 five negative.
If you notice, the bell does not have a terrain, right? There's six different types of these,
but uh only five different types of terrain. Yes, it's true.
So, now let's go ahead and refill this.
All right, so we have
another rock.
Rock.
Okay, so now it is to me. And you know, I kind of hate that I reserved that. It's taking a long time to come back to me. It's time to use it. I'm just going to go action one, two,
and then I'm going use my extra action to place that.
Wow.
Extra action.
You want to explain what you just did?
Three. Yes. Because this is the observation.
That was great. the observation point. And basically at the end of the game, it'll score two points for each different unique types of terrain that are underneath it, including the path token. So, I'm basically capping it off now
to score eight points. It would have been
plus it matches the path.
Plus, it matches the path. So, make it 10.
Yes, cuz it's always the top most is what matters. It would have been more ideal for me to wait
for a flower discovery token, but I really wanted my
What did you uh cover up? You covered up samuris, right?
And a juku. Yeah,
two samurai. I know, but it was already
samuriz.
It was already something that I wanted to do in my mind. Is that
No, that's
bad. Did I do a bad thing?
It's just you're getting 10, but you covered up six guaranteed. I don't know.
But then now the the
Now now you get your pawn back though. Your piece back.
Yes. Yes. I really wanted my my I don't know if that that may that might not have been ideal, but you know what? I'm going with it.
I made that decision.
Okay.
Anyway, that's myction. Yeah.
Yes. So, I do have to Oh, you did you get a
I get an attraction. Yeah,
there you go. That's nice.
You refill first cuz you have three.
Okay. All right. I'll just take this one.
Yeah. Okay.
Why not? There we go.
So, it's your third.
Yeah.
All right. I will take I refill two. I could take the one that you're reserving that wheel. I will not I'm going to first take a discovery token. Oh,
we've got a flower now. I'm really kind of having feelings about that.
You covered up one.
Then I'll just take this one. I'll take this path.
Okay.
All right. Oh, I didn't reserve. I did not reserve.
Uh, go ahead. Yeah,
do you care?
Uh, I don't mind. I mean, technically, you shouldn't know what that token is, but that's okay. H,
but that was the whole reason why you made this play was to be able to reserve. So, it makes sense.
I'm just going to, you know, I was thinking about reserving the bell, so I'm just going to do it.
Yeah, I mean, you know, I'm going to use the bell.
Yeah, I'm going to reserve.
I've already pointed out what I'm doing with
that was the whole part of the reason why I wanted to take it back.
Yeah, you wanted the free two points. I get it.
Okay. Um,
so now we've refilled this.
Yeah, now we refilled that. So, we've got a discovery token. Samurai on water
and oh, same thing. Another flower
samurai.
All right, that is the end of day five.
Yes.
So, we are halfway through cuz 10 10 rounds in a two-player game.
Yeah.
So, keep that in mind if you're trying to make sure you build out your
We don't have that much time.
Speaking about the events and all that stuff.
Speaking of event, let's move into day six. Snowflakes on flower. So, two snowflakes now. There you go.
Okay.
And I must place them both.
So, I I have some flexibility where I can put them, but I do have this wheel here.
Yeah.
So, I'm going to put them both on this same tile.
Are you going to put the wheel there
or here? The wheel will get you points, right?
Yeah. So, the wheel I'm most likely going to cover up the samurai.
Sorry. Samurai
waste.
I know. It's my It's my turn.
Yeah.
Uh yes, that is the end of that event. So, we have tomorrow we are going to have to put two snowflakes on fields and a bear on on
work with that. Okay. Knowing that snowflakes are going to go on wheels, let's do it. So, I'm going to take this one.
So, action one field
on fields. Wheels. What am I saying? Wheel is going to go here.
Okay.
So, again, um what the wheel does is all snowflakes on the tile and adjacent
bad
um are basically forming a point.
Forming a point. Yeah, exactly. So now when these the two come, I can put them here for two points and then I'll be at the 2 two two thresholds cuz at three and and up is when you know halfway through the game. So I might find myself in trouble. So that's action one.
Okay.
Uh action two. I got to do this. I kind of pointed this out. Here you go, Monique. You get your two points.
I get Oh, two points. Yes.
So you know 9 to 11.
Yeah.
Yes. I kind of pointed this out that I'm going to put this here. So this negates all my negative bears. So one, two, three, four, five.
Yeah.
Adjacent. Orthogonally adjacent.
Yeah. So I can get some more bears out here.
That's amazing.
Yeah, exactly. And then I think I will take an extra action. I'm worried that you're going to do some
something stinky. Yeah. So,
and I need this I need this to keep myself alive.
Okay.
I need this to keep myself alive. There we go.
Nice.
Okay.
Oh, you're going down this way.
So, this is going to be a dead spot.
Yeah. You weren't dead. I guess you were going to have a dead spot no matter what.
Yes. Because even if you curved like this, like you you would have this as a dead spot. Yeah.
So you're just choosing to go like that.
But then it's just straight straight straight, right? It's like a curved straight straight straight
straight. I don't think I like that. I Yeah, mentally I was I was thinking something else.
Okay.
Okay. So maybe not that.
Okay. So you can hold on to it if you don't want to do the third action.
Yeah. I'm I'm seeing a lot more curves out there between what you have, what the supply has. So maybe I will hold off on this.
Okay.
Okay. Yeah. So I'll keep that.
All right. So you refill.
Uh, so I'm Well, I'm gonna make a decision on that's how I got into trouble last time.
Yeah. So I will Jukus. So I have this in my possession.
Yeah.
I'll just do this right there.
Okay. Now you refill.
Now I refill. So I will I will
do I do this? Why am I doing this? Why
do it? Do it. You have to now. Ah.
Do I have to?
Oh, it's killing me.
This one. Because if I can do this. Yeah,
that's what I need, right? To keep me alive. Otherwise, I would have done this.
Sure.
Yeah. So, there we go.
All right. Well, you want to see what it would have been?
Uh, sure. Yeah,
it would have been
straight. I would not have wanted that.
You happy with yourself?
Yes.
Okay. We got a discovery token. A bell.
A bell for me. For me. All right. So, now it's back to me. Um, I need to place this. I need to place this desperately.
Okay.
Oh, I should have reserved that.
You should have. I was so scared that you were going to. At least I have this if all else fails.
Yeah.
For my second action, I'm going to place this one. I'm going to place it up here.
What's that doing? Oh, you're
I need it to curve like this cuz this is a this is just a downward curve like that. So, I need it to
It would be nice to connect this way.
Yeah. Yeah. It's taking shape.
It's taking shape. And then I'm going to reserve the bell. Oh, do I reserve that
or just put it in your supply
or just put it in my supply?
You can play it directly from there then.
Yeah, I I'll reserve it. I'll reserve it. Okay. So, now I'm going to refill two. I think I need some discovery tokens. I'm going to take Oh, well, you're reserving this.
I did. Yeah,
I need discovery tokens, but I als need I also need some path tiles. Let's just take this.
Oh, samurai.
Got a samurai.
I feel like it would be too much to take a third discovery token. You know what I mean?
You can.
I will take
Go for it.
A path tile. Oh,
not bad.
Is that an angle you want? That is
every angle is something I want
because I need both sides.
Oh, yeah.
You know what I mean?
Oh, that's true.
But it is nice that it doesn't have any bear symbols.
Mhm.
All right. That is me. That is the end of day six. It's getting real tough.
Yeah.
Right.
Not enough water out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Trying to make our plans come to fruition is tough. You got to kind of roll with the punches. So, we're going to move to day seven. And this is this is correct, right? We We didn't forget the moves. Two, three, four, five, day six, day seven.
Yeah.
Okay. So, we get two snowflakes.
Two snowflakes each.
So, I'm going to definitely put them where the wheel is right now. So, that's just straight up two points. If I put another one there, then I get some negative points, but then it kind of negates, but I have this one to leak out into.
See, I don't I don't have a wheel, you know? So, just do I just go one and one?
Maybe one and one doesn't. Oh, yeah. Yeah, you do. If you do want to branch out because of that. Okay.
I'm just taking a chance that you know that's not a thing.
Bear, please.
One bear each.
One bear each. One forest.
One forest.
I only have one forest.
So, it's going to be there. Are you putting yours?
I mean, this bell is only going so far. It doesn't matter. I don't think there's anything I can do.
Yeah, the bell. This doesn't count.
Put the bell.
Yeah. Not here. Not diagonal.
Yeah. All right. That was today's event. Tomorrow is going to be
snowflakes on fields. Ah, that's so good for you. That's so good for you. All right, Naveen.
But that's that's three, huh?
Yeah. No, two. Oh, no. You're right. That's three, two, three.
Rough.
So, it's going be like one, two, three. Oh,
well, it is your turn. This is your final turn before A and B intermediate scoring, which is going to be water tiles that I have which I have zero of.
No water
and uh tiles with snowflakes.
Okay. All right. So, I think I established that this is what I needed to do.
Okay.
That's one.
Mhm.
I'll do that. Okay. I am going to take this one. So, Monique, you're going to get the extra action.
Nice. Thank you.
I'll bring this one back. I just want this back in my possession. I'll put that there so it matches. So, uh, for having one of these, it's two points. For having two of them, it's five. And then it kind of goes all the way up to up until 15 points.
Five or more.
Yeah, I have this one here, but not enough water. I have this water, but it's kind of eh.
So, that was two actions. I could spend this for another one.
I need to see more tiles, and the tiles that are out here are not what I'm looking for. So, I think I I'll spend it. This This might This might not be a good play, but I need to I basically I need a very specific bend to keep myself alive.
Otherwise, I'm just going to be kind of hoping for the best. So, I'm going to spend this.
Okay,
I know that this is a dead spot and we are going to need to score blue one more time.
Mhm.
I just need to get This is now useless for me now that I've basically established this. I have no place to put a vertical.
Okay.
I like this could leak out, but then these are dead spots, right? Like, and then this becomes dead. So, yeah,
I'm just going to put this here.
Okay.
Open up a slot for me to actually be able to do something.
It will be two points.
Uh, it will be one point
uh over the course of the game.
Uh, what do you mean? Sorry.
Cuz
it's
Oh, no. You're right. Yeah, it's one point. It's one point. That's
It's one point. Yeah, I'll take it. So, I gave up two points to get one point, but then to open up two slots.
Yes.
And so, then I will reserve, you know, this I got a samurai spot here. Why not? I'll just go here.
Ah. All right. So,
keep reserving my things.
Yeah. Yeah.
All right. Uh, that's it, though, right?
That's it. Yeah.
Okay. So, I get to refill first.
And I think I'm going to take from the top of the discover stack. Let's see. Oh, it's a bell. It's a bell right there. Oh, that means I got two bells. Well, we'll see.
You don't get, but they can. Yeah.
Yes, it can be used.
All right. Well, I'm looking for some bends here. Come on, man. Come on. That's not it.
That's not it. Oh, you get another one.
Yeah, there there's always an overbuild. I could always put this in and then just plop over build, but it's like I don't want to have to do that, you know? That's a whole action
straight.
Not good for me.
All right, now it goes to me.
Yeah,
I am going to play this. So, it's action one. So, I've got that. Um, action two, I'm going to place out the bell. So I want even though I have a bell here, I definitely want my
your thing back.
My hitchhiker back. Yeah. So I'm going to place I'm place the bell there. So that indicates these two and that. So minus three right now. My hiker by the way. Uh those are two actions. I have a third. I don't really think I need to sp Do I place this? The samurai.
It's worth three points.
It's worth three points. One point more than the bean. And I do have all these flowers. I'll I'll do it. So this is my third
two points.
Yeah.
All right. That's good. Oh,
so the samurai would have been three points, but I get two points.
That's five points for me.
Yeah, that's good.
Oh, where do I put I'll put that right here.
That's right, cuz it matches the train. That's why I wanted cuz it would have been three plus two. Yeah, you're right.
It's really nice.
All right. Now, what to reserve. So, do I think the V needs any of these? I don't think so. I think maybe the Juku.
You're going to reserve this
maybe.
Okay.
Uh, let's I'll send I'll actually reserve the samurai. I think that's a better better tile. Okay. I need to find this bend
also.
That I had a choice.
Yeah, but you're going to take your turn first.
So that means it's yours.
The extra action.
I get the extra action. Oh. Oh, we have an we have options. Naveen. We have options.
Options.
You're welcome.
You're welcome, my good sir.
All right.
That could have been that could have been yours. That means I can count on an extra action. That's kind of nice. Okay. Oh, we do refill here though.
Boom. Oh,
forest juku. force.
That is the end. We are now going to have our second round of intermediate scoring. And this time we have the composition token for the first time.
Okay.
So, A, one point for all water. B, two points for all tiles that have snowflakes.
So,
so water. I have one, two, three. So, I'll just keep three. And how much water do you have? Any water?
No.
Oh, cuz you covered up.
Yeah.
Okay. Uh, and then snowflakes.
Clouds of snowflakes.
One. So, let's start from left, right. 1 2 3 4 5 * 2 for 10.
10. So you go to 23.
23. What do you got? You got something good here.
1 2 3 4 5.
Okay. Okay.
So same as you.
21.
So go to Yeah. 21. Ooh. Really close. Really close game.
That's it.
That was this. So we're in our last three rounds. Oh my goodness. I feel like that's not enough.
Yeah. I want to
Do you agree?
Yeah. Cuz I'm going to have to do some overbuilding and I have to I have to get
You don't have to overbuild.
No. No, no, I'm going to take from you, but then that's going to give you an extra action, which is technically two points if you don't use it. Or you can use it to make more points
or you don't complete your Nakasendo in the greatness that you wanted it to be, right? So, that's also an option.
It must be graded.
All right. Uh event
three.
Three snowflakes.
Good.
Here you go. There you go.
What's the penalty for having three or four again?
Uh minus two points. And then if you have five or more, it's minus one.
So, I'll go one, two, and then because the wheel
Mhm. Wait, so if it's three or four, you get minus
two. Five or more, it's minus four.
I'll do that.
Okay.
So that's the max. Like if I'm already going to get negative points, I might as well get the max
of the lower threshold, which is four
because for the wheel for every one
is one point. Now, I definitely don't want to add more here.
Mhm.
Okay. So that's good.
As for me, I think I'm just going to spread them out, right?
That's a score B again. So you want
three.
Yeah.
Yeah,
it's good,
right?
Mhm. Okay. So, this is the next one. Water. I have zero water. Zero.
That's okay for me because I have this water which is useless because this is not part of my my largest nasendo.
That's right. That is that's the other thing about having tiles that are not a part of your longest path. You also don't lose points.
You can dump on them and that's fine. Yeah.
Mhm.
All right. Naveen, it is you.
All right. I think I have to take from you.
Yes, you do.
I'm going to take this one.
This one?
Yeah. And the reason why I'm taking this one specifically is because I don't know what these events are, but the the snow liability is pretty high.
And if if stone or rock shows up
then and I would only had one then it's just just dump all the way. I can spread it out three and you know whatever it would be. So I get an extra action, right?
Yeah. Unfortunately. Thank you. So that's that.
Now let me see this. So this is still not what I want. Huh.
Too bad, huh? Too bad that's the
Yeah, you can't do that. That's illegal. Nope. Don't do that.
That's the rule. So, we only have three rounds left, right?
Oh, man. This is not good.
I think I'm going to have to place this out
and then possibly overbuild it later on.
Oh, why?
So, because I
once I'm here, it's all horizontals. I'm not seeing any horizontals anywhere. Okay.
And if I want a chance at luck of the drawing a horizontal, I need to clear out a space.
Okay.
Yeah. So then like I can't guarantee that I'm going to be able to get a perfect turn and then horizontal horizontal out. That's a lot of like hope.
Okay. So at least it's
I think planning wise maybe this was not the right thing to just be like now I'm going to get down here and then just bar it across
like this. Just Yeah. If you do it like this and you can always
it's just one less. So like I can I could just do this and then depending on what I get. I'm going to move this up just in case. So we'll just do that. Yeah.
Yeah. All the way up.
All the way up. Might as well. Make it touch.
Okay.
There we go.
Very nice.
So that was two actions. Yeah.
Uh, then I'm I think I'm going to have to do this.
Yeah, I have one. And then I have forest space.
All right. What are you going to refill with?
For sure. For sure.
Oh my god.
Oh my gosh.
It was not.
What have you done?
It's okay. I I think I can I think I can make this look better. There we are.
You're sure?
I know. I had four here. I had two here. So, this had to be one. There's no way this like came up from like, you know. Yeah, there we go. Okay.
Are you happy though? Isn't this what you wanted?
Yeah. No, I am happy because then now this could technically go here.
Yeah.
And then that'll send my game over there. But I don't know. It's something.
It's something.
It doesn't like I don't have
work with discovery tokens. Yeah.
All right. So then it goes to me and Oh, wait. No. Did you take something from me? You did. I was supposed to
I was supposed to to take that would have been mine. Just kidding. Just know that the other player is supposed to refill first. I am going to I'm going to take a discovery token.
Nice. Then that means this was a legit pull.
Yeah, that was a legit pull. All right. Nice. Beautiful. Beautiful. All right. First action. I'm blazing this. I'm glad you didn't reserve it. Honestly,
cuz you knew I needed it.
Yeah. It's just if I want like it's only so many turns to be able to get the stuff you need.
My path is complete. I do not need to continue to elongate it. I could just end it.
I could or I could just work on discovery tokens, which is
probably what I'm going to do. Place this one out. Right.
Okay. So, that was action one. Action two.
Action two. I have This is mine. Let me just put it here so that we don't get confused. I also have another bell. I don't know that I need to place.
This is a good spot for it cuz it's one, two, three, four, five.
This is already doing this one.
Oh, yeah.
I didn't have this tile earlier. That's why I placed the bell here. And the thing about the bell is it doesn't really score you
any more points. You know what I mean?
So, I don't know. It's here. Um, those are two actions. I'll just leave it at that.
Okay.
I still have my Oh. Oh, yeah. A third samurai. I could Oh, I could place that third samurai.
You can, but you don't have any water.
I guess there's no place for water right now.
Yeah, you don't have to match them.
No,
it's just more points if you do. I'll just leave I'll leave them there for now. And I'm going to refill.
Okay,
let's go with a path.
Oh, interesting.
Why? Why? Why? Maybe why
aren't you all discovery at this point? Well, now you're making me think.
You can do one in one cuz
I'm thinking like a path like a a water. Do I want a water? You know what I mean?
Yeah, but then you'd have to over It would have to be a perfect
It would have to be a perfect I look for a very perfect situation here. I need it to be perfectly like this.
Go for it.
You know what? I'm not going to end my turn since I haven't drawn anything yet, right?
No.
I will spend this.
I'm going to place it.
Okay.
I'm going to not count on water. I'm just going to place this now. And oh gosh, here.
Yeah, that seems like a good spot
there.
Yeah.
Okay. And I will reserve this
mine.
Yeah.
You think I want to care about that?
Yes. Yes, you do. I know you care.
I think I care.
I know you care.
Okay, now that ends my turn. And maybe I do go discovery. You know what I mean?
So, here's a wheel.
The wheel.
Wow, that's shocking. I'm going to go another discovery. We've got another wheel.
Wheels.
Also shocking
days.
All right. Um then we are going to refill that.
Yep.
So we've got a flower flower juku. You already have
Well, actually. Yeah, that's actually nice.
And that's it. Let's move into round nine. This is the final round before we have our last intermediate scoring. Once that's done, we'll do one final final round before final scoring. Right. So, here we go. Naveen. Let's resolve our event. It's three snowflakes for you.
For me,
because I don't have any.
I'm just gonna toss them where they don't mean anything.
There you go.
So,
nice. I love it.
Three. There we go.
Love the strategy. All right. Tomorrow's event is going to be snowflakes.
Good thing I did the whole thing.
Four snowflakes on
two and two
on a rock. Yeah. And then a bear on a field.
Okay.
So, this is what again? This was a a forest.
All right. Let's just establish this
and do one here.
Okay.
Okay. So, that looks good. And let's do Juku on the forest.
Okay. Let's just keep it real simple, real easy. We'll put that there.
Okay.
This comes back to me now.
Yeah.
I'm going to reserve your wheel.
My wheel. This one.
That one.
Oh, interesting. So, this is the one that reserves that scores you points for the snow tokens on its tile and orthogonally adjacent, right?
As long as they're part of the thing.
Yeah. As long as they're Exactly. As long as they're part of the path. Okay. What did I reserve? This is Oh, it's a juku on water.
Blue juku.
All right. Um, so none of mine. Mine got taken. So you refill first.
Yeah. I'm just I mean this is pretty much dead. I I I can't count on one last one last round. Is it? No. Where we at now?
One last day. I have one last day.
You have one last turn.
We're going to do this. Auku.
Auku. Okay. And then we refill there, right?
Yep. We've got We have a samurai on a field.
A samurai.
Okay. So, now it is to me. And so, this is the ideal spot for a wheel. And neither of these wheels are of the flower variety, so it really doesn't matter. I'm going to place
give me two points. Yeah.
Yeah. So, there's one. And then for my second action,
are you just going to sleep on the bell? Huh?
Well, the bell is not scoring anything.
It just takes away negative. Well, it scores technically by you not taking negative points.
Yeah, but I already have like like if I were to place it here, it's one, two, three.
Yeah, if you do here, same thing. One, two, three.
Yeah,
three points.
But then if I place another discovery token that matches a drain, that's plus two points plus whatever it scores. You know what I mean? So, that was one. And honestly, maybe I will put out this second one.
Oh, nice.
Here, nice. Nice.
You get two points.
I'm going to place this out. And the reason why is because this matches the type of terrain. And I I'm going to have to place out four snowflakes and I can place them all out on this tile because I have a temple.
Yes.
And the temple makes it so that I don't lose any points for the bears and the snowflakes on it. Which is also, I guess, the reason why a bear a bell there wasn't really worth it because I was already negating the points for that bear
with the temple.
With the temple. Yeah. All right. Those are my two actions. So now I will refill. I really don't have any more spaces for discovery tokens, so I might as well go full path, you know.
Mhm.
Let's go path. Is this good? No, that's bad. Let's go path. Oh, bad. Bad.
Not good for you.
All right.
All right. BC.
Yes. Let us score. Last intermediate scoring. So two points per snowflake, two points per field.
Uh so let's do field. So I got one and then two three * two.
Okay.
Six. So uh 31 and then uh
snowflake
1 2 3 4 five 6 7 * 2 for 14.
14.
So what's that? Add four.
So 45.
Okay. For me,
um snowflakes are 1 2 3 4 5 6
* 2 is 12.
So it's 12. Not as good. So 12. What is that? 34.
Uhhuh. And then uh fields. Yeah. Two. Oh, one, two, three.
Oh, yeah. Four. Four. Five.
Wow.
Was I not scoring that right?
I think you you just got these out.
One, two, three, four, five. Yeah. So, 10.
10. So, what are you at?
44. Oh, man.
So close. Nice.
Going on.
Nice. Nice. Nice. Nice. All right, that is the end of the final intermediate scoring period. We're going to have one final round. So, this is our last turns.
This is it. This is it before final scoring.
Okay,
let's go.
Resolve our final event. Four snowflakes. So, we have we have more of them.
Yeah.
Off screen.
Okay,
no worries. So, four and you have Oh, that's five.
Okay,
there you go.
Okay, so
and they're going on a rock. I'm going to just place all of mine here
because it's next to
this wheel. It's actually next to two wheels.
Mhm.
And it's on a temple space so I don't lose the points for them, you know. I have five.
Yeah, that's good.
So, it's 10 points via just for the
wheels. Wheels. So, nice.
It's good. Oh, and I just put mine here. Two and two. Remember when I took this tile from you? That's for literally for this reason. I did not want to have to shove all four onto one.
Nice. Good job. Okay, we get uh one bear each.
Oh, yeah. One bear each.
So, where do I put this bear?
What protects bear? Oh,
um places here because then I could I could put the bell if I really needed to.
Yep. All right, that's it. So, technically we discard this, but we're not going to be resolving any more event cards, right?
So, Naveen final.
So, I only have two actions, I think, because this one is not out there. I will not I will not be putting it out there to then resolve it. So, I'm definitely taking this one. This makes sense. Okay,
I'll just put it here.
You took that wheel that I was going to do. So, that's one.
Okay.
And then what is this that you're covering up here?
It's a water juku. So, good for you.
Yes. There you go, Monique. You can get two points. You're hiding that.
Yeah. No, I was not hiding that.
Hiding.
You were hiding that.
45 46. That's nice. One, two, three, four jukos.
Yeah, that's great. Oh my god, it's going to be amazing for you.
Uh, that's it. Just two actions.
All right. Well, you still refill.
Uh, okay.
So, refill with things that you think I'd want.
Yeah. So, let's just do Yeah. One.
Okay. And two.
You can take that. I already have one.
Do you already have that? Okay. Sorry. One. And
those are different terrain types. One and two.
Really?
There you go.
A temple. All right. Well, it goes back to me.
Temple's kind of good for you. You don't care about temple.
Temple.
Two points. Plus, if you put it on here, it's
put it there. Yeah. And it would I wouldn't score I wouldn't score any negatives for that. So, that would be better than the bell.
Yeah.
Am I going to give you four points?
No, you're only Oh, okay. Yeah.
I was thinking about taking both of these. That's why.
Yeah.
Oh, you didn't reserve.
Uh, was I allowed to? You can always reserve.
Oh yeah, you you weren't going to do anything here. I would How about this? I would have reserved your bell.
Okay.
Yeah, that's like Yeah, the most legit thing I would have done.
Okay. Well, we actually get to refill that anyway. Here we go. Water juku. Okay. Yes, I am going to take this one for my first action.
So, I get an extra action token.
You get an extra action token. That's going to be two points.
Action, but it's just two points.
I'm going to place it there.
That's a good spot.
Yeah, better than putting out the bell there, I think. And then I get a second action. That's the thing that's annoying. Do I take this? But then that'll just give you
it'll just give me two points.
It'll leave you two points, but it'll give me
it'll give you
four points.
These are these are worth two each. No, two to start. The first one is two. And if you match the terrain, it's four. Yeah. So, you net two plus. I don't see why you wouldn't do that.
Fine. Let's do it.
I'll take a So, you get another one token.
There you go.
There you go.
Um,
you net it out more by taking my tiles.
Yeah.
Yeah. And now it really doesn't matter. I don't have to put this out.
Yeah, because there's nobody behind you.
Yes, the game is over. So, no point in refilling because the game is over.
So, we have completed our Nakasendos. Let's see how high they score.
Good luck to us. My plan actually did not come to fruition.
What was your plan?
I had this grand plan of like going all the way around up and around going this way,
but this bend was so rare.
Didn't happen. Huh.
It didn't happen. And so I just went full discovery token after a while. My my grid is small. I went I didn't go into a fourth
three fourth row 3x4ish.
So anyh who, let's go into scoring, shall we?
Mhm.
First things first, we actually take our hiker meuples back
and we're going to outline our path. So my path is what I just showed. It goes like this. Loops around like that. Up and down.
Very efficient.
It's all of the tiles.
Yeah.
So how about you? Uh mine, let's just say I start from down here. The last thing I put out. Yeah.
It's going to go like this. Up here, down, loop, whoop, whoop, and then back out.
Very nice. So, the only tile that's not scoring for you is this one. Yeah.
Right. Okay. Very good. First things first, we are going to score our discovery tokens for their unique scoring conditions. So, we are not going to score the matching terrain tiles yet.
Okay.
Just for the symbols that are on their tokens. And let's just go in order. Starting with Duku. There are these uh houses. Just tell me how many total you have.
Uh, so everything's on the map, right? This is So it's going to be one, two, three, four. So four.
Very nice. And I only have one. So for one, you scored two points. So it's two points for me.
So that's going to go to 48. And then for me, I think it's 11 points.
For four, it's 11 points. So
So you go to
56.
Very nice. All right. Next, we have the samurai. And they score you three victory points for each samurai with different terrain. So I have one, two, three.
That's good. for and I only have one for for three.
So you go to 9.
Yes.
And I go to it's 48 + 9. 97 57.
Yeah.
Okay. Oo, getting close.
I don't like it.
Next we have temples. So temples are just two points, but they will also help negate negative points as you'll see later. I have two of them. So that's going to be four points.
Yeah, I have two uh two points worth.
Two points worth. So you tied right now.
We're tied.
Oh boy.
The bell does not score us any points. it'll just help negate points. So then next we have the observation
point. So this is two points for each path and discovery token of a different color that's underneath this tile. So I have one for the field two three four because they're all unique. So that's going to be eight points total
and it would not include itself even though these are the same. Yeah. So
yeah. So I go to 19. Okay.
So 69.
Oh I have I don't have that.
And finally we have the wheel. So, the wheel scores one point for each snowflake token on its tile and all orthogonally adjacent tiles.
So, why don't you score yours first?
All right. So, this wheel. Yeah. We have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 nine.
Nine.
Nine.
So, you're going to go to 20.
20. Yeah. So, 70 technically.
Okay. And as for me, I have two wheels. So, I have this one and this one.
So, this scores just one, two, three, four, five. That's good.
Right. There are five snowflakes here.
So, I'll just go to Am I blue?
Yeah. So 24.
Uhhuh.
And then this one is going to be 1 2
for itself plus five is 7 8 9
right.
Yeah.
Nine. So 20. So 33.
83. Yeah. So it's 83.
Yeah. And that's it for the actual discovery tokens. Now we're going to score two points for each discovery token that's on a matching terrain tile path.
So for me I think not all of them. No,
it's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Right.
That looks good. Yeah.
So, it's going to be 14.
I think I did the exact same thing.
14 is 47.
Yeah. So, 97 97.
So, it's going to be 1 2 3 4 5 6 7. So, 14.
Okay. So, 14 goes to 34. So, 84. Then we'll score two points for each unused extra action token. That's just you.
Four points for me.
So, four points for you. So, you go to 38. 88.
And finally, we are going to lose points. So, starting with the bear symbols and tokens, it's going to be minus one victory point per bear, unless you have a bear that's on a tile that has a temple or on a tile that has a bell or orthogonally adjacent to one with a bell. So, for me, these bears don't Let me see. I only have one bell. So, this one.
Yeah.
So, this one is going to negate these three tiles, right?
Yep.
This one has a temple and so does this. So all other bears. So it's one, two, three, four.
Four bears.
Minus four, right?
Yes. It looks like four.
Okay. So that's minus four points. So I go to 43.
It's not enough minus.
How about you?
All right. So bears. I got quite a few bears here. So uh I have this temple that's protecting this bear.
Yeah.
And then this one is protecting these. One, two is overkill. Three, four, five.
Okay.
This one is not part of the path.
Yes. So you don't break it like that. So there's no bear here. So what do you see? One, two. This is
You want to go from top to bottom?
Yeah, sure.
Okay. So there's one here.
Oh, sorry. One.
Is there any There's no symbols here.
One.
Okay. So one,
two,
two, three,
three, four.
Four. This is not
protected. Yeah.
Five.
Five.
Protected.
Protected. Protected.
Protected.
Five. Six.
Six. Six.
Six.
Okay. So that's going to go back to
32.
82. Yeah. And finally, we're going to lose victory points for path tiles with snow tokens that have three or more. So for me, temples protect you from both bears and snowflake tokens. So the only ones I have are this one, which is only one. This one has a temple, and the rest only have two.
So I don't lose any points for snowflakes.
So uh the only one I have is this one. So it's four. So I think I lose two points.
Two points.
Yeah.
Okay. One, two. So the threshold is if you have three or four on a tile, you lose two points. If you have five or greater, then you lose
four points.
Four points. So that's not the case.
And that is it. The final scores are Naveen with 80,
Timmy with 93.
Those wheels at the end there, they got good.
Which wheels? Oh, these. Yeah.
Yeah, the double wheel duty.
I was trying to do a second wheel.
Being able to stash the snowflakes on a temple tile.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was really helpful. I'm just glad that we both had a good like a valid path. You know what I mean?
That we didn't like fail miserably in actually creating a path.
Yeah.
But there you go. Good job.
Nice play. Yeah.
It was kind of tough like finding the certain path tiles that you needed in the moment.
I couldn't tell where I stood like in the game. I was like, I think I'm doing okay. And then like the jukus were coming out. I'm like, okay, I'm stacking those up. But I totally forgot early in the game. You stacked up that uh
observation
that extra like eight points
that I that was like the thing. I was like looking down like what are you like what is your math going to be? And sure enough, like you got me there. So,
yeah, it's it's an interesting battle of like trying to reserve the things that you think you will need. Like you want to reserve things that you will both need because or else you're just going to be stuck on a tile that no one's ever going to take.
There was a couple times you reserved something that I didn't end up taking.
Yeah.
But you were able to still work with it.
Because that's the thing. I think for the longest time I was really trying to just take discovery tokens that were going to match the terrain type. But I think at the end, even if it doesn't match, as long as it's scoring you, you know what I mean? as long as it's netting you just a little bit more
then then it's worth it.
So anyway, that is Nakasendo at two players. Now at higher player counts, you will play nine rounds. So the 10 round game is specific to two players. But other than that, none of the other rules change. And so in higher player counts, the reservation mechanic will be a little bit more dynamic because you'll just have more options of players to reserve tiles from.
More stuff out there. Yeah,
you'll be able to get those bonuses from reserving a little bit more often, like taking the extra action tokens and also scoring those two points. And you'll also just be able to see more tiles. So, I think like we were searching for certain angles that weren't coming up, but in higher player counts, you'll just have more to go around.
Well, there you have it. That is Nakasendo. Now, if you have any questions about the gameplay, feel free to leave in the comments down below. We'll try to get back to you as soon as we can.
