Whisperwood Board Game Kickstarter Buying Guide
Transcript
All right, we've got another Kickstarter that's hitting the popular shelves. It is Whisperwood from Cardboard Alchemy. I've had a chance to take a look at this prototype a couple of times and never bothered to play it because it was a long time commitment and it was relatively ugly, but I am happy to see that this is a lot less ugly than the prototype. Uh and I'm going to quickly pop down to the bottom and show you what I'm talking about um in Before You Play's video, they have the prototype that I have seen. Where is that? Actually, same with here. Jenna has the same prototype as well. This is nowhere near as pretty as the current final product is going to be, which is a great improvement and glad to see that. However, this is a bag building game of trying to advance on these tracks, I believe, to get points. Um there isn't a lot of information on how you play and how you win on this Kickstarter page.
So, there is a bit of feedback there for you, Cardboard Alchemy. Um and it hops skips over any story and hops right into um the pledge levels, but that's what we're here for. The owl pledge is the base pledge that is going to run you $100. Now, now this gives you the location tiles, the boards in standard cardboard, wooden pieces, uh triple-layered player boards, a four-layered pool of spent dice, a bunch of cardboard tokens, a four wooden golem meeple, and a crap ton of cardboard tokens, and a bunch of more wooden meeples, and a ton of cards. No word on the quality of the cardstock, etc. here, so we don't know. Then, for the otter pledge, so if you do uh $30 more, I think that was, 149 minus 99, oopsies, made that up. 149 For 50 bucks more, you get to upgrade to wooden tokens and a Game Trayz insert. The insert speaks nothing to me. I would probably 100% throw that out and get a 3D printed insert. Um Game Trayz inserts have not wowed me for quite a long time, but wooden tokens would be quite nice. There are so many tokens in this game. Then we go up onto the bear pledge. This is a huge jump from 149 to 129 1299 from 149.
It's a $150 jump. Why? Because it has plastic minis that are also a light up LED structures. And you're not getting four, you're getting four eight 12 of those things. However, it only ever comes with four bases, so you have to interchange those bases if you're going to play with different golems. Then it also comes with these acrylic tiles. These uh stand out to me as an eyesore. Maybe they can develop these into something different instead of coasters and these ready tokens. These guide markers just don't look great when you compare them to these big massive golem textures and all of those wooden bits. This seems cheap and it's so I would not get those and so I'll show you the pledge here that I would recommend you grab instead. But, how to play the game? You're going to draw from your bag. You're going to prepare. We're all doing this simultaneously just like Orléans. Then you're going to I guess um awaken the golems. So, you're going to do some kind of movement with the golems, upgrading your different actions, upgrading your powers uh with the cards, and that's it.
These are the extras that are coming in with the campaign. Um so, a four-layer cardboard board. So, this might not be in the retail version. Um but it would be in the Kickstarter base version. Um the premium runestone tokens, same thing. Uh and the washed miniatures. So, if you get the miniatures, they'd have a nice wash on them as well. Standard edition with all unlocked gameplay stretch goals and also includes the deluxe five runestones and a set of four upgraded spent pools. Yep. So, you'll get that that goodies in the Kickstarter retail version, but unlikely in the regular retail version. The otter adds in the wooden tokens and the insert and the bear adds in the minis and acrylics. But, you can grab these individually. So, if you want the first player mini, you can solve a puzzle down below to get that for free instead of eight bucks. If you want the wooden tokens without the insert because game trays inserts tend to flip-flop around and don't speed up setup, so I'd 100% don't get it, then you could grab the otter tier. So, but the otter tier is 99 plus the wooden tokens is 48. That takes you to 147, so you might as well get the insert for the $3 more. And so, instead we're going to start with our base pledge being the otter tier at 149. I would skip this add-on that comes in the bear tier because I I think it's ugly. But, if you really wanted to deluxe-ify, you can add 48 bucks to get the golems. Now, those golems won't be light up lit up. You need to add another 21 bucks to light them up. And so, that gives you to 218 out of the 299 price tag. The rest of that price tag comes in from
adding the $96 of the rest of the golem set, which would bring you to 340, but this gives you 290. And so, that's why you're saying I don't know where they're getting $120 a difference there from. Oh, the $120 difference is from what they want to charge these regularly. Then there's a coaster set in the fake coaster pack. You don't need any of those either. So, I would highly recommend that you grab the otter tier, hop on in, and then grab the golem player bases. You need one copy of those cuz there's four golems on the board at once. And the golem golem miniatures. And then for the $3 difference, you're also getting the thing. And so, that's going to cost you $218 US, $304 Canadian. That's the same around the the deluxe version of Andromeda's Edge. So, that is pretty common.
So, let me know in the comments down below if you plan on backing Whisper Wood. And if this is going to be the type of game for you, we will see you next time. Bye.
