OFPG - Quagmire Playthrough (Ribbit!)
Transcript
Hi everybody. I'm Stara. I'm
And we are
And welcome to our playthrough of Quagmire sponsored by Perplexed
Family. This game is hopping. And I do mean hopping. So here's Stala with an overview of the game. Guide your frogs across the lily pads of the bog, gobbling up flies as you complete routes and outmaneuver your opponents. Each frog moves with its rounded top side facing away from its owner, and its orientation never changes, making it easy to determine which player controls each frog on the board. Score points by landing on opposite frogs, completing the routes shown on your frogs, and discarding frogs from your hand that match formations already on the board. Plan your moves carefully, maximize your scoring opportunities, and finish the game with the highest total to claim victory.
All right, everybody. We're ready for our playthrough of Quagmire.
Yes. Yes, we Let's go. We're doing some frogging. Instead of avoiding cars, we're avoiding each other.
That's right.
Yes.
Trying to get across the pond.
Trying to get across the pond. Trying to get some points. So, yes. Yes. So, we're going to start off. Stara has won the most games and she has beat me very badly on this game sometimes. So, she's going she's going to be the start player.
Yeah.
All right. So, I've got a little group of frogs I got to choose from.
Yes.
And first, we got to start by putting them on the shore. Yes, we got to put them on the shore.
All right. I like this little guy. There you go.
All right. So, I'm going to go with him. Yep. And we just do one turn each. One one little turn.
Yeah. So, uh let's see. I'm going to go here.
All right.
So, we're trying to get across the pond or get a formation on the pond where you can get points.
Yeah.
And you're trying to avoid other people's frogs so that they don't jump on you and not
trying.
Yeah.
Trying. All right. So, this on me.
Okay. I'm back on the shore.
So, I'm going go here.
And you have to be across from your partner because your frogs are directional. So, my frogs, I know they're mine because they're facing him and his frogs are facing me. And if we had two other players, they would be facing each other. And it's just it'll be wild the direction of the frog. So, all right. So, I'm going to take
Now, this is based on Perplex's little small box game called Bog. And I like the little small box games. They're really cool. And they look like uh gum.
Yeah, packs of gum.
Uh let's see. Let's go here.
And you got to kind of look at the other person's frogs
to make sure they're not going to the same lily pad you're going through. That's right. Cuz if they do, they will knock you off.
They'll take you out.
I think I'm safe here. Let's go there.
And you're not.
That's one point for me.
Oh my goodness. I didn't see that. Okay. All right. So, now we're playing a game. Let's Let's get
Mhm.
him. I'm trying to look at his frog now to see where is he going next. So, next he's going there. So, I'm going to put this guy on the shore.
Mhm. Put him here. And I will move this here. And I get a new frog.
So, you got a fly, huh?
Yeah, I got a fly.
All right. So, I'm going to get a fly, too. So, I can get another frog. I'm going jump my little guy right over here. Take that. Now, you got to put the fly somewhere else, not on a beetle. And it can't be close to you. So, unfortunately, I got to put a fly close to him.
Yeah. All right. Uh, there. Let me go and get to my third destination and get me another fly. Put that there. And I'll take this guy.
Go here. Take another fly. Put that there.
Take him. I
think I'll go ahead and go here and take another fly and get this guy.
Okay, now I'm going go here. Take this fly. Take another guy.
All right, he's made it to his final destination. I'm going to bring him on home.
That's two points.
Two points
for two players is two points. And I'll bring him home. That's two points for me.
I'm go ahead and get him on a lily pad here. Let's go.
And I get him here.
Sure.
And I'll bring him home. All right. Sure. All right. You can have two frogs on the shore. No more than two. So, I'm going to go take him right there.
All right. And I put another one on the shore.
I think I put him on the shore, too. So, there we are. All my frogs are out. All right.
Well, let's see. Let's go ahead and He's doing a big jump way over here and taking a fly.
Taking a fly.
Yep.
All right. So, go here. I'm going to take a fly.
Okay. I'm going to move him here. there to over here. There we go. Second row on the shore.
And then I'm going to take this little guy and knock him off. He has to go cuz that's my spot. Put
him here. And I'm going to bring my little guy home.
Yep. Got to get him home.
Uh, go here.
All right. So, now I I'm going to jump him all the way over here.
Mhm. I was waiting on that.
I know you were. I saw it. I tried to avoid it.
I was waiting on him.
I couldn't avoid it.
I was waiting on him.
All these other two frogs got to start over here. is like I I got to move. I saw your frog. I saw him. He wasn't fooling nobody.
I move him up here.
Mhm.
Get him out the way.
Yeah, he ain't fooling nobody. I knew what he was trying to do on the shore.
Go here.
Uh that's all the frogs.
I'm going to take him here. No more frogs. But I get a little fly.
Mhm. Take him here, I guess. Fly.
And I'm going to take him here. And I'm going to get a frog.
Oh, no.
Put him on there.
All right. I'm going get him on deck over here. Where are you headed? Cuz I want you headed toward my guy.
See, get that guy. And then I'm gonna take my and put him right there.
Okay. And put him right here.
Okay. I'm bringing him home. Come on home, little guy.
Oh, shoot. Bring it home, folk. Where is he headed? Mhm. I don't like the way he's going. I'm going up. Your frogs are not nice. I'm just going to go. There we go.
Mhm.
The frogs are taken. They they they hungry.
Mhm.
He's coming in.
Yep. Okay. Well, I'll just take this little guy.
Dang it. Put him right there. Messing up the lily. the pug. Messing up the pond.
Messing up the pug.
All right, this is my last guy. I got him in right here.
Got him in.
Uh, well, not yet. He's going to stay there
if he's safe.
Are you safe, little frog?
He going to go there.
All right, now you can come home. There we go. He's home.
All right. So, that's it.
That's it. I can't place anymore. when she can't place anymore, she don't get penalized three points. And we just go ahead and add up. So that's uh 2 4 6 7 8 9 10.
Uh 2 4 6 8 10 12 13.
I had more frogs and still lost. That was good. That was good.
It's a really fun short game. Yeah, it's a very short game,
you know, and it's it's got a real puzzle here because you got to really keep an eye on the pattern that the your opponent's frog is trying to meet because you're getting the crosshairs and you have no other choice. You got to move that frog to that spot and he'll come take your
and it's very quick, but we're going to talk more after we come back.
Quagmire is a fun quick game. Yes, it is.
As a two player,
now with four people, I'm thinking it's going to be a bit longer.
I think it's going to be quick, too.
Well, it's going to be a little more challenging because you everyone's directional because we have to sit across from each other. So, it's almost like north, south, east, and west,
but everybody's going to lose their frogs.
Well, you're going to lose frog frogs getting eaten up.
Oh, definitely. Frog knocked into the pond. They don't eat each other.
Okay. They just knock each other off the pad. They get knocked off the pad. But with us sitting across from each other, we can really see, you know, the direction of the frogs. But if we had two other people looking at their frogs, you're going to be looking all over the board trying to figure out which direction these frogs are going.
It's going to be it's going to be crazy. But it's going to be fun crazy cuz it's very This game, it'll surprise you how strategic it is. Very strategic. And you got to see it's like a puzzle like where you need to go. But unlike other puzzles, puzzles you just have to deal with, now you got to deal with your opponent and how they fit into the puzzle that might be messing you up cuz your head is all over the place at this point.
And not just you're not just jumping from lily pad to lily pad. Each frog has a pattern on it. And if you can get frogs to line up in this pattern, you can get points for that as well. So this that's what you have to look at. So you got to look at where the frogs are, you know, what patterns. make sure that they don't jump where you want to jump so you don't get taken out or kicked into the pond.
A lot to look at.
Yeah. Cuz but you know in that point which you know you're trying to get the you know the formation you know it's kind of scary because if you get two or three uh you know frogs or even one frog in that in that area, you only get the one, two or three or four points. So you got to sacrifice that frog. So, do you want to sacrifice a frog to get a few points or try to try to get them all the way to the end so they can either swallow a frog or they can, you know, give me my two points, you know, or, you know, two, three or four points depending on how many players in there. What do you want to do with points? You know,
you know, how quickly do you want to get those points cuz your opponent is going too? But the main goal, at least for me when I was playing, was to get my frogs across the point pond to their final destination.
That's what I was trying to do.
And that's where you get your most points. If you can safely get across the pond to your final destination, that's the goal. But then you got an opponent like this one who's constantly trying to knock your little frogs off.
I'm just trying to get my frogs off. You one game you were just taking my frogs out. you had like about 16 frogs that you've taken from me and I'm like what is going on?
I I took quite a few in this game but the thing is they were in my way.
If they're in my way they got to go.
Yeah. But see so that's the strategy you know I take is like okay can I just get my frogs through the fire and if I take a few of your frogs with it that's cool.
You know that's cool.
Well wait a minute. some of my frogs. Well, I'm going tell you in this game we played, my goal again was to just get across the pond, but there were a lot of times you had frogs on lily pads that I needed to go to. So, I had to knock them into the pond.
And then sometimes you got to wait. You know, you see that your opponent's frog is going to hit the same lily pad you want to go to. So, you got to wait out your opponent.
You try.
You know, you try. You might not have enough time, but you try. like I know if I put my frog on that lily pad here she come. So you're trying to hold on as long as you can maybe go to other places, but you say, "Wait a minute." And then even while you're in the midst of your route, you know, you're going on your route like, "Hold up." You know, I know if I go to that lily pad over there, here she come. So you try to wait out your opponent, but you know, sometimes
sometimes you can't.
Sometimes you can't
because you took one of my frogs and knocked him off his little lily pad and I had to move him there because my other frog had to go to the spot where he was. So, I had no choice. I knew it was going to get knocked off, but
and that's sometimes you don't want to, you know, you don't want to knock off your own, you know, frog, you know. Now, sometimes you that might have to happen, but you try to wait like, "Okay, I'm going to wait till my next turn so I can move one of my frogs so my other frog can get into that place." So, you got to strategize and and and wait and see where you need to do. So, it's a very interesting game. I really do like it how strategic it is. I mean, it's interesting on the table. The little artwork of the frogs, they're so cute. I think they're all different. I think Well, most of them are different. I think they're so cute if you like frogs. And I I think it's a really good board game rendition uh upgrade from Bog.
Yes.
You know, from the little cars,
the little cards, the little the little uh gum cards to this. Yes.
And I like that. But, you know, the the little gum cars, they're fun, too.
They are fun. And and I'm glad that, you know, he is basing some of the, you know, little small box, you know, cards and he's going to the bigger box. That's really cool.
Yes. Yes. That's really
