Immortality | Video Game Review

hey Gamers this is Liz Davidson from me on soliter and today I want to talk about immortality and this is a video game that is not like most video games you've ever played so I'm going to show you just a little bit of it because I don't want to mess up any of the gameplay spoilers for you but the premise of this game is that we are looking through archival footage of three films that had an actress who was just destined to be a great star except that none of her movies came out and so you are looking through the footage to try to figure out the mystery of what happened to this woman what happened to her films and what sort of strange things work behind the scenes so we're going to go ahead and go in here uh but I'm going to tell you that you're going to see a lot more on my screen than you would on yours during the game because I've been finding all the clips and you won't have at the time so don't worry about that just you'll find it all later yourself let's go ahead and start all right so this is what a like a filled out game is going to look like uh I've been looking for all the clips as I've mentioned but you actually just start the game with one of them I don't remember exactly which one but I'm pretty sure it's this one right here so we're going to go ahead and click on it and I'm just going to show you the very basics of gameplay so you can come in here you must be you must be very excited I am excited and basically what you can do is you can pause and then you can zoom in and you can try
to use this ey to click on items or people or faces that are in each of the clips and it will take you to different clips so that's how you discover new ones so let's say that I want to look at her I click her face boom suddenly I'm in a different clip and so the way that you uncover new clips is that you have to like actually look through all the scenery throughout um all the different ones that you come across uh because what you're trying to do is get everything and that took me quite a while um the other really key thing to do in this particular set is to speed up and reverse footage so I don't want to give anything else away but I made the huge mistake when I first started this game of playing it on um just with a mouse and keyboard you absolutely need to get a controller that vibrates for the optimum experience of playing this game because if you are playing and you feel the controller vibrate it's a major indicator that you need to hunt around and figure out what's going on and that was something that I did not do when I was first playing the game so I actually uncovered a lot of Clips like an entire movie worth of Clips before I found some of the secret things that are in this game that's all I'll say um so you might play and wonder like what is the big deal and what are you supposed to find uh I will tell you just just get a controller with a rumble feature and that is the most spoiler I'm going to give
you so just you can see things really quick um obviously there's a whole bunch of different stuff you can look at you've got like little casting and script reads there are a bunch of different scenes and there are three different movies in here from different eras and different years and it's very interesting to see like the same cast of people sometimes sometimes not appear throughout uh and be working together over all this time and then you know how frustrated they must be because a lot of the movies aren't coming out so with that let's go ahead and save and quit it should just take us to the main screen again and I can talk to you just a bit more about the game so obviously I didn't show you very much but that's a very deliberate choice I don't want to ruin anything for you because this is a very special game it's a special experience and I want you to get a sense of what you're doing without actually ruining it one thing I will warn you about is that if you are sensitive to sexual scenes to nudity to all that kind of stuff I would not play this uh because some of the clips you start it and you're like whoa um and so um I would not play this in front of children on a public family computer living room and if those kinds of things make you uncomfortable I would not play this but otherwise I think it's a really fascinating exploration because you really feel like you're a researcher who's going through all these clips who's discovering something mysterious and special and of course you're left to draw your own conclusions about exactly what's happening and what it means but
uh you'll enjoy that part of the process so if you want a game that's kind of like this but simpler I recommend her story which I've already reviewed on this channel and it's from the same Studio but immortality is a much more ambitious project uh and I really really enjoyed playing through it the one thing I will say however is that because there is so little guidance and the controls are so simple in some ways they're almost too simple and if you don't get some sort of hints which is why I told you to play with the controller um you can really miss what's actually going on and then spend a lot of the time confused but it's worth the time it's a super interesting experience I like video games that don't feel like traditional video games and this is definitely hitting the spot there so I would check out immortality the next time you are feeling a love for the history of film love for acting and you want to do something kind of mysterious in video gamey with them all right thank you so much y'all uh I will of course be back soon with another video and until then Happy gaming o
