everyone we are very excited to show you camel up the card game so once upon a time there was camel up or camel cup if you see it that way and then there is camel up of season in between there was camel live second edition which resolved the camel cup camera thank you Taryn and we are mainly going to talk about camel up the card game but we're also going to compare mainly with the original camo up because camel up of season is slightly different game which is to say completely different yeah so by the way I'm Stella from people University and this is Terence welcome welcome back uh so we are actually we don't have camel up again because it is currently in our board game Library so that other people can enjoy it came on up as well in our Melbourne Central what we're gonna do is we're gonna start with uh talking about camel up and briefly about what came up off season is and then this one Camel app and what's the difference indeed so Camelot yeah this was a game that was first released in 2014 uh it was I guess I won't say derivative of but it was uh in the same vein as downforce and all of its predecessors was fundamentally a racing betting game so you would have a field of camels that would be racing around a pyramid the pyramid was this cool mechanism that

dropped dice out which told you which camels moved first one is paper the second one is plastic yep pyramids indeed and they would move around the board and you would be betting on which horses would be a hit not hat horses which camels would be ahead and intermediate points in the race and then at the end of the race and the tricky part was that camels would go up that would Stack Up on each other and so if purple were to move here it might move two spaces forward like that being on top means being a head so very quickly it's gone to a higher position in the race and if red were to move it would carry purple with it so we're still talking about the base game here still talking about the base game um I mean the original game I should say the original game the card game of course Works in a very similar way that was always the um it was always the hook yeah of camel up and it was what made it a light and very variable game that kept the betting fun because that was what was always good about it yeah because it could swing so rapidly you know yellow only has to move three spaces here to go from fourth to First that was really what made the game good as a betting game yeah and that's actually you don't control the camel the camo is the common camel and you actually hedging and betting to see which camo goes ahead or which camera goes last and then hopefully it makes the most money out of it yes

yes and then there is camel up of season which is not really it's completely different game with the camera it's a complete yeah camel theme you are collecting you're collecting components and trying to make sets with them in different ways it's got a bit of a drafting element to it no racing whatsoever really it's just using the Camelot brand uh and it is actually came up off season and then it's literally off season it's like this is what happened when the race is not on when the race is not on the camels are hauling these uh dates and jars and stuff around all right and now what is new what is camel up the card game all about and what's the difference in a game the feeling of playing it right so camel up the card game is a card game version of classic Camelot so it is a betting racing game and it's very much in that same vein as the original game what's interesting here this is probably this is probably the first time I can I would say that this is more complicated than basic Camelot and that's very rare that's actually a card game version not that much complicated but it's a little bit it's a similar level but it's got a bit more depth to it yeah and so this is this is the layout here instead of a board you've got these cards and you make the race track out of the cards and the length depends on the

Play account which is a little bit smaller in this it's a two to six player game rather than a two to eight player game so you've got the you've got the board you've got all the betting cards they work in much the same way so leg betting which happens every time is all the intermediate scorings still five three two two the way they've always been some of the other bending Works a bit differently which I'll describe shortly but fundamentally what makes this game different is you have some control over which camels are going to move think of it as being halfway to downforce so you're not playing cards to move camels but you'll be adding cards to a common deck so there'll be a deck a card like this which determines how you play the game this is a two-player setup by the way yep so in the two-player setup for example you would draw each player would draw seven cards of course this is only 410 um race so each player would draw seven cards at the start of a round would choose three to discard so you would look at them and they all represent camel movement I've got only ones here but they're twos as well so there's ones and twos okay so you would choose three cards to discard you would choose three cards to place into the face down pile and you would choose one card to keep face up in front of yourself and then everyone else would do that so well two player game the other player would do that so you would have six cards in the deck and one card face up

in front of each player you would add two cards randomly representing the crazy black camel that runs in the opposite direction disrupts things you shovel and that's the racing deck yep so now the movement for this leg is going to be dictated by these cards and these cards when you get up to say three players uh each player is adding two cards to this deck when you get all the way up to six players you draw four you add one to the deck two randos get mixed in and everyone has one face on card I said that is your key difference now instead of being completely beholden to the dice and the pyramid you have some influence over which camels are going to move you have a little bit of inside information to start making your bets and naturally that is that makes the games a little bit more complex yeah it makes it a little more strategic strategic yes and that's why I say it brings it halfway to downforce where all the movements are based on the cards you play uh the The Race part of the game works from that point everything kind of works just a little bit differently so in the Race part of the game instead of only taking one action and either betting or playing your effect on the track or doing a movement which gives you a a bonus so in the in the basic game if you're the one who makes a movement you just get money for doing that this time a card always gets flipped and

resolved every turn and you may optionally also bet sorry not quite you can also do one of the one of these but essentially yeah one of those racetrack effects will always happen you can either reveal one and then move the camel yeah you or you can use the card in front of you to move the camel yeah or you can pay the owner of this card face up so discount this and then the owner of this card and then to move this camel pay one yeah so that adds this extra strategic element where you can give somebody else a coin to use their card at this strategic moment that is most traditional exactly now if you want to know more about camel up and camel up offseason we do have how to play videos which I will link in the description below just in case if you are interested yeah there's still these disruption cards so a shortcut which will make a camel move one extra space if it lands on it and uh the reverse that will go one step in the opposite direction it's actually a stand but we just didn't put the stand there indeed now instead of getting a reward for that being used you actually suffer a penalty if you play it and it doesn't get used on this round yeah so that's an interesting little twist uh the betting as I say it has the same leg bedding with um the first and second cards there's also a Midfield betting card so it's only worth two coins but you can bet on a camel being third

and you'll get one coin if it's second or fourth and then if it's at one of the extremes so anyway so it adds these extra elements to the betting the in-game betting Works a bit differently so you can still bet on first and last place but instead of playing those into a face down pile instead you just take them from the face up pile you can only take one winning bet only take one losing bet and you can swap it out later in the game but it becomes again a competitive element for who takes those so lots of little bits that are slightly different um the there's more catch up here so at the end of a round say this for the start of the next round any empty cards are flipped over from their two space site to their one space side to shrink this up and at the end of the race if there is well you always have to extend the race track so that there are three spaces at least for the leader to get to the end which one more I think that's three one two three oh yeah and so that means to it can it gives more time to bring everyone in at the end it's the sort of this jockeying for position and it means that three points worth of cards will have to be played in that final round on the camel that wins yep it's definitely more strategic there definitely more strategic more as

I don't think I can I can think of some card game versions of games that are not that much simpler or about the same this really does add more to the game with less bored and less box and less costs yeah and we play well two players is still doable but the game shines through more for Higher Play accounts so same with the previous camel up okay well the original game yeah the risk with two players is that you um five camels two players and the choice it means a couple of camels might get left behind and then it's and with no random cards getting thrown into the deck as well yeah so I would go for the higher five or six five and six players has got random cards thrown into the deck which makes it more and slightly unpredictable this is less control for yourself yes yes yes more control or more like the original game so it's really where do you want that balance to be for me this is a a great game if you have played I think you would probably need to play in my suggestion anyway it's better if you play the original camel up game and then play this one I mean you can just not know anything about the previous camel up and then play these and oh yeah this is also a fun game it's not too complex still but it will probably give you oh okay it's like Camelot but you have some control it's not totally random that was fun and it's probably kind of like Camel app

is more Gateway this is a slightly step up from Gateway Games I really enjoy it in High play accounts and I think that it's it gives more chaos it's gives some Randomness in there while I still enjoy up the base game this is a different game it feels different with the controller you have yeah I think it opens it opens the game up a bit more for the party element of your hobby game Meetup yeah yeah I think I'd still because of the uh Simplicity I would still recommend basic camel up for yeah your standard public Meetup um first timers but it's clever what's been added to this absolutely it's just that it adds that game as touch to it yep very good and now have you played any of the camel up what do you think do you like do you think in this camel cup okay well not this one but basically before something I always thought I always thought it was camel cup see back in the day yeah well that's the original one and there's a second print with the plastic pyramid it's got It's clarify this is clearly say camel up yes I think it used to be one of the most controversial uh things in the hobby oh you do all you need to do is go go to BGG and then oh yeah it's actually kind of up not camo

cup yeah you can still complain yeah okay fine parents likes to complain so yeah let us know if you played it and what do you think do you play downfalls the other one as well I think down Force um is the other one that is similar to it it's the other most well-known betting racing game yeah um there are there are others out there but those are the two most broadly played or let us know which one is the other game that is similar to this oh hopefully enjoy that if you think this is useful somehow every single like few comments really means a lot to us I'd love to see your comments write in the comments hopefully I'll get back to you soon and thank you so much for watching and we'll see you next time bye
