Trials of Maya l Prototype l Unboxing
Transcript
Greetings, I'm Baron, so welcome to Meet Me at the Table. Today, we're going to be doing an unboxing of the prototype for Trials of Maya. This is an arena-based expandable card game in the Mayan narrative universe. We're going to be able to command different champions in this core core box that I have for the prototype. There are four, but from what I understand, there's going to be up to nine different champions that you can have. This game is for one to four players. This prototype does consist of a two to four-player game, where you can play there as 1v1, 2v2, or you can play a 2v4 kind of battle royale or bloodbath type game if you're interested. So, that is what is inside here, but when this comes to realization through Game Found, from what I understand, there is going to be a solo and co-op mode in here as well. So, there will be multiple ways to play this game. Trials of Maya is considered what would be a MOBA-type game. So, if you think of anything like League of League of Legends or Dota or anything else in that alley, you know, that might be something that this would be similar to.
You like right there, it's in the alley and you're in your lane. Oh, I'm funny guy. Okay, so we're going to get to unboxing this before I make any probable more bad dad jokes. Also, just like I said, this is inside the Maya universe, so they do actually have a book for this particular game that shows me everything I would need to know. It's a pretty thick book that is going that we can read through to understand the lore and the world that this game is in. They have spent a lot of time creating that to make this game as real as possible based on the world that they're trying to bring about. So, this is super exciting. I'm excited to show you what's inside here, and then we're going to get this to the table. Now, like I said, this is a two to four-player game with the prototype. So, I'm going to try to do a play-through showing what everything is and how it all works. But, if I'm also able to get Ridley to join me, we can actually get a full one-on-one get show you exactly how this all transpires.
But, if not, I'm at least going to show you the core mechanics and how this game works. So if it's something you're interested in, you can totally take a look. And of course, this is a prototype. Everything you see is subject to change moving forward. Like I said, they already are planning to add more champions and of course, anything that unlocks during the stretch goals are going to be able to be added to this type of game, which will be super super sweet. I will be putting a link to the Game Found page in the description of this video. Also, I'll try to put a link to it up here if I'm smart enough to be able to figure out how to do it. I'm pretty sure I can, but if I can't, you can find in the description of the video. And I'm also probably going to put it in a pin comment in the comment section as well. So please check out that if you're interested in this game or have any questions about Maya the trials of Maya here. So that let's go to unboxing this prototype. And if you're excited to do that, then I need you to meet me at the table.
Now the book I got is super cool. It is a full-on book that goes let's see what huge amount of pages here. I'm going to pass this off to my wife. She reads fiction, I read rule books. So she's going to probably be able a chance to read through this and she's going to tell me everything about it. It also comes with a pair of 3D glasses that I bet works on this book. I wonder if it works if I put it in my camera. Um maybe. Look at that. That's kind of cool. All right, there you go. That it actually worked. I'm I'm I'm highly surprised that that actually worked. That's super cool. All right, that's that's neat. I think that was pretty cool. I guess he turned 3D glasses. They're just red red glasses that show the cover. That's pretty awesome. Okay, we're going to put this to the side and we're going to dig into this box and see what we have. Now again, like I said, this is a prototype. All is subject to change and I do want to thank the creators of the game for sending this to me so I can do some content for you. I'm pretty excited to show you what this is all about. All right, we do have our reference sheets here that we're going to be able to dig into. We have our reference books that covers all the different types of iconography you're going to see, and it's really not going to be too much iconography. I think this is going to be a pretty easy game to understand and play through. Uh there's 15 pages of that. There also are the game mode book.
The game mode, like I said, comes with 2v2, 1v1, and what they call the Head Hunters mode, which is like a 2v4 kind of Battle Royale bloodbath type thing. Uh they do have different setups for these. So, the Siege 2v2 is going to have its own setup that you're going to be putting down. I will go through a lot of this stuff that you see here, so you'll understand everything that you're seeing in these pages here and what they all are. We have the 1v1 Siege, and then we have the 2v2 the Head Hunters mode of the two to four players. I do also, like I said, this is also going to, from what I understand, have a solo and co-op mode once that it comes to realization, and that is going to be coming up soon. I'm hoping to get a prototype of that too, or at least be able to show that off when it comes out, cuz I'm super pumped for that. We have the prototype rulebook here that runs about 46 pages, but the text is really big, and actually there's a lot of pictures and demons- and iconography and demonstrations showing exactly everything about it. So, this is a really cool-looking rulebook already.
I can't imagine they're going to expand it beyond that. But, we're going to dig into everything else that's in this box now. Let's see what else is in this box. Uh this is going to be the different boards. This is going to be the 2v2 one, the Clash that you can play, the Siege area, I should say. This is going to be that one. Of course, they do have the different markings on the map and everything, and I'll talk about them in just a second. We're going to put this one away and show the next one. Next one we have is this one. This is the 1v1 mode that we have. We're going to open that one up and show it off. On this different map, you see different things. I'll show you what these are. These are, I believe, like the starting areas where you are. These are also considered zones. The different colors are different zones. There also is elevation, so this is lower elevation and higher elevation. You'll be gaining advantage if you have the high ground.
Um we know all about the advantage you get from that if you have watched episode 3 of Star Wars. Having the high ground is apparently very, very important. There also voids that are going to be on You cannot pass through them. You cannot shoot through them. They're kind of completely uh empty space uh spaces that you cannot do anything through. There are walls on these. You can see them right here. Those are going to of course block line of sights and prevent different types of attacks to be moving through. There are ways of course to get through them through other different attacks and cards and things of that nature. But just to show you a little bit about the board, so you're going to have your heroes or your erections heroes champions out on the board. There are also going to be minions that you're going to have to battle and you can take under your control to then use in your own way as you move through as you fight. So, it does have a lot of cool tactics and things that are going to that you have to go through in order to decide how you want to take on your opponent. Uh like I said, it's going to be very different every time you play because not only do you have the enemies on the board that you're going to take out to be able to help to fight against the other person. You're also going to have your champions and then you're going to have a whole deck of cards that are going to have different abilities and things to be able to fire off and they're of course going to be out there on the board and you're going to have to and you're going to take advantage of everything you have in order to be able to defeat the enemies and your opponent.
Going through the punch boards, we do have the first one here. These are foundations. I believe these are just going to be placed on the board to put out different types of terrain on top of different setup scenarios that you're interested in. These are going to be our engrams or they can they're going to be considered immovable destructible objects that are going to be out on the board. That's the first one. They are dual-sided, but there's no difference in those. The next one we have is going to have all of our death tokens. Things are going to die, but that's okay. It's just very similar to, like I said, any other MOBA. When you die, you get to potentially you come back without and continue on in the fight. All of the different champions have different tokens that they're going to be using cuz they're all going to be very play or played very differently, I apologize. So, if you're interested in like being able to root people down or bleed or uh poison or you like to fly, these are going to be different things you're going to think about when choosing the type of character you are. Not only are they going to have their And these tokens are going to come out through the use of different cards and attacks or abilities that they're going to have.
Like I said, every character is going to be played completely different, giving us this unique way of playing when you play the game multiple times. You may want to perfect one particular person or maybe you just like to try out all different types and be able to have a become a jack of all trades, as you could say. We have our experience tokens that you can spend to get upgrades and things during the game to make your character more powerful. We do have our victory point tokens up here. Of course, the person with the most victory points at the end is usually the winner. And again, here are all the different types of upgrade components that we can gain for our characters, and they do have all four of our different champions listed here. Again, during the crowdfunding, more champions will unlock from what I understand. So, there are going to be even more to play through and be able to master as you play through. And these are dual-sided and are going to have different types of ways of expanding your characters. Depending on how you want to play out your character, you're going to want to choose different upgrades and different passives for your characters as they go through the game.
Uh just to show you a little bit about this. From what I understand, these are going to be upgrading your health. These are going to be upgrading the amount of energy you have, which allows you to play more powerful ability and cards and spells and things like that. These are going to be passives for your particular character, from what I understand. You can pick them and upgrade them as you go. Not only that, you're going to be upgrading skill cards as you go that we'll see later on in the game. So, there's a lot of different ways that you can choose to upgrade a character and play style as you play through it, which gives a lot of stuff you can do. All right, here are the champions. The first one is here. I've got to put the wings on. I'll have to glue those on somehow, or else maybe they'll click in. Uh oh, they do. They just slide right in. All right, how about that? Slides right in. We'll get to that. Now, of course, these are prototype miniatures. These are going to be better as the game goes as they actually go through manufacturing process, but for prototype purposes, here they are.
They're actually really nice. These are the trackers you're going to show for your characters that are going to have the health, the energy, and their armor as you play through it. And if you get more than 10 energy or health, you're just going to flip these over and continue on your track here. The interesting thing is the armor and the health track. I'll show these on the board have a unique system where if your health and your armor at the same point, they actually can fit right on top of each other in either way. So, you do have the ability So, as you're playing, you can actually have a lot of energy and everything. Super cool. All right. Let's take one of these guys out and dig through everything you are going to see when you play through your champion. Actually, I'm going to dig through the rest of the box here, and we're going to look at one of the champions after we get everything out so I can actually show you it and everything that's going on.
Uh the characters are uh like I said, very different. So, I'm not going to go through everyone, but I'm going to show you one to kind of show you kind of how what to expect when you get that. But, here's another one of the miniatures for this particular character. This one looks super cool. It might be the one I play. It looks really awesome. Uh but, we'll see. All right. We'll put that one to the side, and we've got a couple more. This one right here, I can pull this out. This is going to be the one that uses poison. It's a surprising turn of events considering the uh character looks very much like a uh snake of some kind. So, put that one back and move on to the final miniature here that you can see. And as you can see, there are some player boards down at the bottom here that we're going to look at and like then I'll be able to show everything off here. This is the final one. Very monkey-like creature that we'll have to play with. And of course, I'm sure the lore for all these are found in that book that I had and I can read through to find out more if I'm interested. We're going to continue by pulling this out and get to our player boards, which are right down here. I'm going to move the box out of the way to show you one of the player boards. Now, this is the player board. I'll pulled out. Let's see which one it is. It's going to sit like that. And then, you're going to take your character and put them out here. And these boards are all the same. It's going to be whether where your character sits. So, you're going to put your other your hero champion there.
Now, we're going to be able to fill the rest of this with all the different things we have, which would be the different tokens for your passives down here. You have those ability tokens here. You're going to be able to put your max HP and energy gain here. And you just notice when it says when sliding, I'll explain that in a second. Here's where your health and your armor will go. And like I said, when you get to nine, you'll flip over the thing and go this way. So, you can get more than 10 if you're interested. The cards for our characters are predetermined at first. You do have to create a 24 to 40 card deck. It does recommend that when you play it for the first time, you should just use the deck that is provided, but you can create your own deck. And you're going to be able to put cards in it based on the type of ability or not ability, sorry, the different traits and symbols that our character is able to have. So, for example, this particular character is going to have these at the start and be able to unlock other symbols through its different skill abilities down here as it as you're able to upgrade your character, maybe you'll be able to put other types of cards in there. Some of them are specific to the actual character where after that, they are not. They are all built on these particular trait symbols.
As you can see, these means you need to have that trait symbol in order to play it out. Now, if I want to play another one, from what I understand, I would have to have another trait out there. I can only play one of those. I could be wrong about that. Again, haven't played it yet, but I believe that's how the trait system works. And you're going to gain more traits through these upgrades over here and particularly potentially relics or your passives of that can be able to be able to use these more powerful cards. There are action cards, there are relic cards, and there are spell cards. Those are the three different types of cards. In order to play a card, you do have to spend energy. Your energy cost is up here. Then down here, whenever that card every round, these are going to slide down. And when this card leaves the board, you're going to gain energy based on the number down here. So, that's how you're going to gain energy to be able to play cards that you played out, which is kind of cool. So, it does have this rotating system, which also means you're people are going to kind of know what is coming, but they don't know the full extent of what could happen because there are going to have cards in your hand and you could have and the actions are going to be played out here. Your relics are going to be played under the cards like this. And the relic will then boost whatever card is under it. Now, you can't If you already activated the card to play and you play a relic, you're not going to get the extra bonuses. But, if you haven't activated the card yet, this relic would activate on top of this card or and give it maybe some extra bonuses or boosts of that of some nature. I hope that makes sense.
All right. Then, the spell cards can come straight from your hand and there are also going to be reaction cards that you can play that are going to be able to be played on your opponent's turn when they are doing things as well. So, there's four I guess four different types of cards, but two types are going to be spells, regular spells and reactive spells. And so, those are the different types of cards. And of course, when you play the cards, you're going to be able to gain these abilities and use these abilities as you are activating your champion. Again, there's a lot of little iconography here, but as you get used to it, it should be pretty easy. For example, this is move two and has a range three to be able to hit any type there that this one is gain one additional take damage on the activated for the action. Um our relics are going to be in here as well. Let's look at one of the relics. Maybe I can see what that's all about. I got a lot of actions in here.
This guy's all about action. There we go. This one, for example, is our relic. We were actually just looking at this one. And it says that it can if target is debuffed, damage dealt you get to deal plus one damage or they have a bleed token, you get to deal plus two damage. So, that's what this one is going to be able to do as a relic. It can do that. Uh let's see if we can find any other actions. This one's the move icon, so you can be able to move two. If in flight, I can gain two cards and then I'm going to be able to move two. When this goes off the board though, look, it gives me no energy. So, it's it's going to be good to help me move around, but it's not going to help me get some energy. The more powerful cards from what I can understand to play to do things are also going to give you the most energy. So, it's kind of a yin-yang type maneuver here. Do I want to keep the more powerful card out to be able to do damage and do the what it does or do I want to get rid of it so I can get some more energy to be able to play other cards out. So, it is a unique balance in order to do that. On top of that, each of our characters are going to gain specific skill cards. These are going to start dormant, which is going to be in this particular area here, and then you're going to be able to spend your experience points to flip the card.
You can choose them every time you get two experience and you get to a area of the board where you can spend your experience, you can choose one of these to spin. On top of that, once you've spun it to the first side, you can again spend two experience to flip it or potentially one, depending on which one of these you're doing, to flip it over and either gain the A benefit or the B benefit, whichever one you think is going to be more beneficial to you as for the way you're have built your deck and are playing your character. And you don't have to spend all of these experience to turn them all one before you can turn them two. You could keep these two dormant and build this one all the way up to its more powerful side and then start working on the other ones as you gain experience. I hope that makes sense. All right, that is the way kind of the characters are laid out and again, you're going to be also out all the different tokens from the game for your characters out on these boards as well, putting passives that are going to help you and your max energy and max health as well. So, those are the characters. Let's return to the box. Continuing on, we do have some more of these things you're going to be setting to the side. This is the initiative token board where you're going to be gaining initiative based on your card you're using to gain initiative and that's going to be built based I believe it's on the energy cost.
So, at the beginning of the turn I'm going to play one of my cards down on my board and then you're going to flip everybody's going to flip their card and the one with the lowest number is going to go first. Remember, the lowest number cards are ones that don't do as much strength and power. So, if you might want to go earlier, but that means that card is going to stay on your track and not it's not going to be able to do as much for you as a more powerful card that's out on the game. For example, if you put like a a three or something out there versus a one, you're going to go first, but it's probably not going to do a lot like this one and then like I said, it allows you if you're in flight to gain two uh cards and you're able to move two. That's all it's able to do. Where this one is doing a whole bunch of stuff. If you're pierced plus two and T's a suffer rip one, this is going to be a range of three doing two damage. It has one armor. You get to draw a card. I mean, this is a lot of things it does. I'll have more in another one. So, that is how the initiative track works. This is a draw and discard pile area, so you know where for the different objectives that we're going to learn about as we go through it. These are the minions that are out on the board. Let's get the rest of these cards out of here so I can show you what we have. The first set of cards we have are objective cards. These are going to be how you gain experience. You're going to be hopefully completing these particular objectives. The white stone and the wheat stone, sorry, and lay of the land are always out. They're always available for you to gain the experience on. Where you can two spaces on your turn, you get an experience. You deal two damage a single turn, get an experience. Deal four damage in a single action, get four experience two experience and move four on your turn, get two experience. So,
these are always out. Now, the rest of this deck is going to be face down on the objective board that we just saw and then you're going to be drawing cards from this and you're going to place them out as the game goes forward. If you're ever able to complete this objective, you're going to gain the experience on it, but then that is a one-time gain for that round and it's going to then disappear. If your opponents are also able to gain this particular um what is it? The objective, sorry. They're going to only gain one experience for it if it has already been claimed for the first time. So, it's a first come first serve basis. Whoever gets it first gets the full power. Anybody after that is only going to get one. And there's all different types of objectives. That one is deal two 12 damage, have three uh art relics equipped. This one is discard your entire hand at the end of your turn.
Whoever does that first then gets the experience. Deal five damage in a single round. Uh have a three enemies in a zone. And I love how they actually name these. This one says finally even three card bounty. Activate three actions in a single turn. This can't sit still. Move three times in a single turn. So, that is the uh that is the objective deck. And it's kind of cool that you're not sure exactly what's going to be coming out during the game. But then you can plan your turn around that potentially to gain some experience to power up your characters. We're going to continue on. We do have a whole set of extra cards that we could then put into our deck. These are all different uh cards that we can create or make a deck out of along with the ones to start with our characters. So, like I said, it is a deck construction game to figure out and you can create them based on anything you want from your character, what you're hoping to do with the for you that in that game. Kind of cool. You can really really make some neat combos happening. As you play, you're also going to see different minions out on the board. And you're going to be fighting against these minions. And if you're able to defeat them, they can then join your group and you can start controlling them in the game to be able to use against other minions or of course your enemy as you move forward.
These are the different enemies. Some of them are dual sided that are used for different things. The but most of them are just single sided. They're going to be not represented by cards except on the table to be able to show you what they are. They're actually on the board as chips and you'll see those in just a second. As I pull this off, I'm sure we're going to get to the rest of all the goodness in here. We have some more areas down here and we also have the bounty tracker down here. So, here's another set of areas that you're going to place out on those boards that are going to have that are going to create different battlefields based on the scenario objectives or the objective the scenario book you've chosen. These are all the different areas of the game. There are four different areas you can plan. Those are also going to play into effect when it comes to some of the objectives. I think there was ones that are like have spent in the same zone. Sorry, there's zones. I ended care end with three enemies units in a zone. That is kind of like how you're going to get that. So, having those zones is important. Here are the bounty tracker that you're going to follow as you're playing through the game. You're going to be putting them out there for the minions and things of that nature. Put that to the side. We're going to flip down a little bit more and you're going to see the tokens and chips.
As it apparently has come through shipping it is gone through a mass chaos and destruction, but that's okay. They're all They're all plastic chips and they're going to be fantastic. All right. Here we go. All right, let's get these out so I can show you what these are. We got some secret cards on the bottom. That's kind of cool. These are going to be Oh, these are These are the reaction cards around here I was talking about. All right, so there are some reaction cards that we can actually play around with and learn from. Here is the rest of the tray. Here, for example, is going to be one of the minions. You're going to have it out there. You're going to place its health underneath it and that's how you're going to decide determine how many health it has. And as you do damage you're going to remove them. Once all the health chips are removed the enemy is defeated and you could potentially gain it as an ally or it just dies and you get and that's that's the deal. But more often than not you're going to gain it as an ally which then is going to go on to one of these from what I understand. This is then going to be showing that this is under your control cuz it's the yellow player and it's going to be just like that and now you have control of this from what I understand. It's going to move around the board. I could be wrong. I have not yet played, but that's from what I understand. We do have the rest of these markers here that are all going to be doing different things. I'll explain what all those are. These are player control markers. Basically, if they're going to be used from what I understand as to place down onto objectives as you complete them to show that for example, you're the first one to complete an objective, you would then place that on the card. So, other people would know what objectives are still uncompleted so they can get the full power of the experience points as opposed to just getting the one that you've already completed. The next thing we have are these towers. This is another thing we have and then to show off the cool thing
about the Check this out. We have these. Yep, poles. We got poles. Uh these are actually going to be used as spawn points. They're also be used as upgrade points as well. So, if it's an upgrade point, it's going to have this thing on it like that. Now, interestingly enough, you can have an upgrade point and a spawn point in the same place where these things are just going to attach to the top here via magnet. So, these are the spawn points and you also have upgrade points. So, it could be just a spawn point. It could be just a upgrade point, but it's kind of cool and these go out on the mat. They are kind of suction cuppy so they can stick right there. So, they're they're going to be all set to go. So, and there's are a few of these out on the board that you're going to be able to use. Now, like I said, you do have to get to an upgrade point in order to level your character up. So, that's part of the part of the game as well is trying to figure out how to be able to get to these upgrade points once you complete those objectives to become more powerful and be able to take on more minions and potentially or eventually, I should say, take out the other opponent. Last thing we have are these. These are just going to go on the bottom of your character to show which one it is just like that and hits one's all set to go out on the board. All right.
That is it. That is all I got from this unboxing. So, there you have it. That was the unboxing of Trials of Maya. This is, like I said, just a prototype that is going to be coming to Game Found. So, please take a look in the description of this video to for the link or in the comment section. I'll try to pin it to the comment section. You can find it there as well. If you're interested in seeing more about this content, please stay tuned for Meet Me at the Table. I'm going to try to do an in-depth uh mechanic demonstration of how this game plays out and maybe even Ridley will join me for the game itself. Thank you so much for watching. If you did enjoy the unboxing, don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit that bell symbol so you know when more content comes out. Also, please feel free to leave anything in the comments section. I would love to hear from everyone. Do you have any questions about this game? Please leave them in the description of this video and I'll have the hopefully get the designers will be able to answer those questions. Otherwise, you could visit the visit the game found page and they can answer your questions there as well.
If you're interested in supporting the channel, link to the Patreon is located in the description of this video. Those that have joined the Patreon are shown here on the screen. Thank you so much for your patronage. It means the world to me. Some of the perks that our Patreon supporters get is they do have the ability to watch Colin and my playthroughs usually a day or two ahead of time without commercial interruptions. On top of that, we give them the ability to affect the games we play by asking, for example, in this game that I would ask what character or champion, I should say, they would like to see us play as. I also have them help us decide in some of our campaign games how to influence our characters and which directions and things they're going to be going. That way, it gives our Patreon supporters a way to help make our games come to fruition and give a way of being able to interact with our games as we play through them. So, there you have it, the unboxing of the prototype for Trials of Maya. Thank you so much for watching. And if you're excited to see what Colin and I have coming up, then I need you to meet me at the table.
It's a mastermind to fill me up with all your energy. It's a mastermind to set me up against your enemies.
