where were you when it happened do you remember can you think back to the thoughts that went through your head it can't be true it just can't be true I kept saying to myself but here I am it was June 29th 2017 I was serving Facebook when I received an innocuous notification that someone had posted on the board game geek page I wondered what it could be but there's no way I could have been prepared for what happened next the page loaded and there it was Monopoly at first I thought huh must be some kind of meme or something but no it was everywhere I scrolled down further and further and couldn't escape it what had happened I found a friend's post I know this sounds weird but this version is different it's not the same Monopoly could it be true I waited as the day went by it seemed as War had broken out between this group and others it had even spread to Facebook Twitter Instagram everywhere I looked there it was they called it Monopoly gamer they said it was different but was it really different maybe they just wanted it to be different so desperately I wanted to believe I wanted to no longer have to roll my eyes when someone asked if I like Monopoly I wanted to be able to relate with these people so I did it I pit the bullet I came home that evening and opened the box I opened all the extra character packs and slotted them so neatly into their molded plastic homes I gazed at the art all struck by its minimal cover and complex insides I peeled the stickers and placed them in the w wonderfully crafted rule book whose linen Pages were Bountiful with rules and information I set the game up but never tore it down that was the last game I ever played that was the last game that was the
