rampage terror in meeple city
Tara on maple CD also known as rampage the board game is a 3d action dicks Terry set collection game where plays take on the various roles of gargantuan monsters as they demolish buildings eat meeples blow down the city and throwing vehicles at each other in this rough and tumble punch em up smashing up games pays homage to the retro arcade game rampage of the 80s and 90s terror in maple city is a game designed by antoine boisar and ludovic more blank it is for two to four players for ages eight and over each game takes about 30 minutes stara and maple city is set up in the following way firstly each player chooses colored monster takes their corresponding colored disk and place the corresponding monster on top of that disk next they choose their corresponding monster card and place the four removable teeth at the bottom of the card as shown each monster has six teeth including the two that are permanently stuck to the actual board itself place each colored vehicle in the vehicle space is marked as shown if this is your first time playing the game you should glue these down using PVA or craft glue you take a handful of meatballs and place them on the little meatball icons as show and then you take one of the shaped rectangular boards and stack them on top as show and you take
another four meeples and place them on the meat spaces as you can see the actual levels themselves have such great intricate designs place the last piece on top which is the roof place one meeple in that spot we've got this little kyra guy here are people here army boy here are people ready to save the day repeat the same for the surrounding buildings except for the stadium which looks as so where you place the stadium on top and you place the forum meeples in the center base the runaway meatball track to the side of the board if this is not your first game you may choose to play with the b-side shuffle the secret superpower odds and deal one per player and sure that all the players keep this card facedown so the secret superpower is an ability that your character can use once per game shuffle the green power cards and deal one to each player the power card must be displayed immediately and must be displayed for the entire game shuffle the character cards and do once each player each player must show their character card cities divided into eight distinct neighborhoods all bordered by a brown wall each building is surrounded by a sidewalk which does determine whether a player can destroy their building using one of the actions or not on a player's turn a player can take two actions repeating the same action if they lie on a move action you take the monster off the disk flick the disk and wherever it lands that's where you place
your monster again notice how this monster moved from the yellow zone to the green zone if the poor accidentally gets flicked out of the city the player loses one to demolish action the players poor tokens must be touching the sidewalk of the building that they wish to demolish the player then picks up their monster piece sits upright places their arm horizontal to the surface of the board and then drops the monster on the building once they've completed their action the monster goes back onto the pause if a player is in the same neighborhood as a vehicle the player can take that vehicle and put on top of the monsters head then the player can use their fingers to flick the vehicle off to destroy anything else on the board final action that a player can take is my favorite action the breathe action that's where you take your character you place your chin on top of your monsters head you take a deep breath and then below after the action phase is the collateral damage phase if you knock down the body of a monster take a tooth from that plays screen and put it behind your screen finally the floor has no elements on it for example monster vehicle meatball or another floor after an action the player can immediately claimed floor and put it into their stomach the third phase is the runaway meatballs phase if you're playing with side a the player who knocked the meeples off the board places the meatballs starting with
the top line until it becomes filled up if a player fills up the line they suffer the negative effects of example in this instance the first and the fourth line the player loses one of its monsters teeth returning it to the box and the next play also gets to choose where that monster will go next if playing with the b-side the players take the runaway meeples and place them onto the respective colors when the colors are filled up for a particular row the player activates those colors are suffers the negative effects the final phase in a player's turn is the child arm fees the player can devour meeples in its current neighborhood that are not supporting any game elements the monster can eat as many meeples that as it has teeth and then all those meeples can go into that players screen what they only come from the neighborhood that that monster is in and that it's really important to try and collect the meeples of the six different colors because that's the way you earn victory points at the end of the game in calculating each player's victory points players need to get a set of six different colored people's to get ten points 1 point for every floor regardless of their size 2 points for every tooth taken from another monster then if the player satisfies their character cards victory point condition they can add those points to their tally so in this case this player only has one pair of red and yellow so they get an extra two points as part of their final round game
display scores the most points wins the game the character cards provide players with extra victory point conditions at the end of the game so for example this player who has the brawler character card the end of the game for every truth that they ate from another monster gives them to victory points so power cards work like instant cards they could be used at any time during the game but can be only used once so this one is a passionate kiss it's the passionate kiss the player chooses to maples in the stomach of another monster and then places them in their own stomach and this is really good when you're missing two particular colors you've got four of a color and you need two more and you know another player has those two colors is great way of stealing those two colors that you need especially towards the end of the game if you're trying to complete a set with catch up you can take a monster in the same neighborhood as yours and put it on top of your monsters body and then use that monsters body as a vehicle and then break one tooth from that monster such an awesome card you get to throw another monster fits thematically who cut the cheese oh my god this is awesome so all opponents must place their bodies monster upside down on the pause during their next turn they must use one action to turn their bodies the right side up haha such a great God there is lots to love about the game terror on maple city first of all it is deliciously fun I love the fact that you can take on these monsters reenact rampage the video game
and destroy the buildings and eat all the meatballs there's something glorious about devouring the city in taking it down the beautiful art the actual board itself and the fact that the board is raised in three dimensions just add so that really eye-catching hook factor to it what's really fun to note is the amount of pop culture references that are seen when you look carefully at the detail on this board you've got this Godzilla reference then over here you've got the captain america shield and then when you look at some of the tiles themselves they have these really interesting references like the bat signal Calvin and Hobbes or maybe what I think is Calvin and Hobbes and if you look carefully on this one you can see the poker ball the game components are incredibly durable made from this beautiful wood the pieces do tend to survive although the only thing that doesn't survive sometimes our parts of the needles and the stickers that come with the later edition of the game sometimes they tend to peel off after multiple users people themselves are such beautifully crafted beautifully printed in terms of the stickers they all feel like they have their own little identity and down to the vehicles and the actual Armstrong building and down to the actual monsters and the monster cards themselves gameplay has very very simple rules so it's very easy to engage the family in
playing this game multiple times because the rules are so easy to learn but that's not where it stops there's immense variation when you actually look at the different types of cars when you look at the character cards the power cards and even the secret super power cut that you can only use once in the game when you find it's the best opportunity to do so combine all these different card combinations together they really come with immense replayability it doesn't even matter that you're not winning to get it's just fun destroying things down it's one of those games where you pack it up as you play it which is kind of an unusual concept when you're flicking the little discs to move your monster the actual game board itself comes with these little trash are squares which kind of represents your building once it's been destroyed and those trash squares actually have to be glued on when you first purchase the game but they really add as little buffers for when you flick those disks around especially when you're heading in the middle of the city or you might find that you will have to use a little bit of your experience in billiards or pool in order to flick it at the right angle sort of bounces in between the streets in order to get it to the zone that you wanted the theme kind of pops out at you like a big picture book or a pop-up book and I feel like when you play the game you are participating fully in the actual experience so when the meeples actually
fly off the board they actually get placed onto this runaway or which then if you're playing on the outside the easier side some negative effects can happen to the player that triggers them this is such a good mechanism to have in this game because it's what balances the game now this is what stops the players or play from just outright demolishing the whole board in one big blow fact that you get penalized for knocking things off the board really adds to the level of strategy in terms of well I really want to knock that tall building down all that stadium down but I don't want to do it too hard because if the Maples go up I can suffer the few limitations when it comes to playing this game first of all there's a tendency to lose all of the pieces and if you got pets or animals around they have a tendency to find those meatballs eat them and put them somewhere else where you'll find maybe seven days or eight days later when you clean the house the other thing is often when have been vacuuming after playing the game I'll vacuum and all of a sudden I'll find a meatball in the vacuum clean setup itself can be a little bit long if you are doing it on your own so what I do recommend is showing the group how to actually set it up and getting everyone to really set up one building each and but before you know it the whole board is settled within three minutes or less some of the superpowers are depending on the combination can be a little bit overpowered for example the vacuum power
can actually suck on the meeples off the board once they fall off and then the person who uses it can place them in a zone and that can be a little bit overpowered because that kind of overwrites the need for this balance mechanism I think the order of play can be a little bit disadvantageous especially in the first round they can be disadvantageous if you're playing as the fourth player because by the time it gets around to you are quite a lot of the city is destroyed in one way that could be an advantage because a lot of the pieces are easier to remove I think the game really tries to balance that aspect out by the fact that you actually have to collect one of each type of maple in order for it to actually count it does require a little bit of clarification about whether the maples are still supporting the structure whether the structure itself has nothing on top of it whether you can claim that meatball or that structure or not and then when you take the structure off and put it into your monsters a little secret storage area whether than the remaining Eagles are then able so there's a few rules that do need to be clarified this game has a lot of potential for variants and house ruling in terms of when you're trying to vary the game after you play it at say 50 or more times one of the house rules is that you can get up to six to eight people you can actually purchase two of the board games and the rules do suggest this you can put the two boards to get together to make like a metropolis and then you can have eight months just
playing at the same time how amazing would that be the other thing is even though you've got the four different actions and house ruling could introduce some new powers that the monsters could have that your group could decide on so one could be earthquake where you would shake the table in order to add to the destruction another one could be clicking where you could flick meeples at other buildings and things like that to really vary the dexterity aspect of the game and consume my final verdict taryn maple city is a fun light dexterity game which appeals to all members of the family you're hard pressed to find anyone who does only get something like this out on a Friday night and just destroy it or tear it to bits overall gets a thumbs up from me if you like my videos please subscribe otherwise stay tuned up to my video to see what my verdict is thanks again this Danny sign out on board game century goodbye d I've done
