Battleforge Beserker Preview - A Game Night Boss Battler!
Transcript
Hey party people, welcome back to MVM. And if you're looking for one of those boss battle games that you don't want to play forever and you don't want to do, you know, a whole bunch of scenarios. What if I told you you could do something like Cthulhu Death May Die or Massive Darkness 2 or Deliverance where you can just play a scenario hour hour and a half full rump get your, you know, get your upgrades, do some cool stuff, communicate, chuck a bunch of dice, get it all done with unique system using that rondelle with Monala. Try something different. Right. this might be your game here. Battle Forge Berserker. Now, there's been content playthroughs all over the place uh for this game. And I'm kind of in the rear with the gear here, but hopefully this gives you an idea. This preview of this prototype gives you an idea what's going on in it. It's a one to four player game. Like I said, the scenarios take 60 minutes, hour, hour and a half. Uh you know, you know, that kind of stuff. And you're going to be facing off against these gods. Let's go and slide this out the way here.
you're going to be facing off against uh Thor here and these Norse gods here and then you're the Asgardians. You're fighting these guys and you're fighting off these mechanical enemies and things of that nature. These will be on standies and probably miniatures in the campaign. Um but eventually as you fight you will shift form and you will be inside of these things and you become like your spirit spirit form and start really kicking some butt. Okay? So, you want to make sure you get to those because that's when you start doing that damage. And you want to make sure you do that within a 12 round. Uh there's going to be objectives for each one of these, of course, if it's scenario-based. And that's not just kill the enemy, but definitely can win by defeating the enemy. You definitely want to do that before 12 rounds. You definitely don't want to die twice. And in the scenario, there might be a specific lose condition like the ones that we have today, Forge of Doom. We want to make sure that these things don't all three of these pieces don't get lit up. Um, like I said, we're going to have a very very easy setup for this this game and the m the the system, the actual activation system is very familiar. Um, if you played the child game Mala or if you played a game called Crusaders Thy Will Be Done, this is going to have something that's similar to that, too. There's a lot of lot of things in here, okay? A lot of things in here u that are very interesting. take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I'm going to be in here talking, you know, kind of saying the talk and just let you know what's interesting to me and what's exciting to me. Take it with a grain of salt. You do what you do. Okay. All right. So, what I have here is my two characters. I have Lagartha, Ragnar.
They have their own abilities. Then I have their kind of their morph form, their evolve form, which is a raven morph and the bear shift. On the back of these cards, they have their own different abilities similar to these. As we upgrade, what we're doing is getting closer and closer by getting dice and all these different upgrades on our boards. We eventually get to eight and higher. When we get to eight, we flip this over and we we become this beast and we combine like I showed you just a second ago. Then uh you can actually switch these up. These don't belong to each other uh other than I chose them to because I have some more here. I can make her the wolf. I can make uh I can do this with him and then make him the the the the raven. I can do whatever I want. So, of course, there's going to be a lot of choices here. I'm assuming the god will be a choice uh that you're fighting here, which they'll have their own cards and things that they do.
There's going to be quite a bit here. And of course, with the scenarios, there's probably specific enemies that are there. I'm just going to give you kind of a general general of this all. Okay. Uh they also have the your own scenario event deck and the regular event deck. This is in there. And then each enemy has its own activation set of cards. Like I said, you're going to have 12 rounds to do all of this. Uh so let's go ahead and start with our setup. Now you have at the bottom left here, you're going to have uh your upgrades that you're going to start with in the game. Over here are your special skills. So at the bottom, every enemy uh every guy has their own special skills that they can use for free during their turn. So you want to pay attention to those. Hers has to do with defense. On the right side of her cards, there are upgrades. And as you move up this spot here, if you ever get to or surpass these, you get those upgrades. They're called fury points.
And those fury points come from defeating enemies. Uh you also have these little tiles. These tiles go in these slots and represent the different types of um different types of activations. You have defense, you have roll, which is a reaction. Uh, you have attack, of course, you have rituals, and then you have healing. So, those are your different types, but each one of them has a slot for an upgrade, and each slot can be upgraded twice, but this one tells me I have a specific upgrade to start with, and I'm just going to find it here. Forgot to grab it right away. Here we go. Here it is. There it is. It says this one right here. So, I'm going to put this on a spot where I have one of the icons that matches. This one actually turns it from two a actions to a possible of three actions here. So, I'm going to put that there. Um, and eventually I can upgrade that same tile and give plus one to all those actions.
But for right now, I'm just going to leave it in there. But it also says she gets another boon, which is another action here. And I'm going to put that right next to it. That's going to give this attack an attack from up front and also from range. That will be important once I start attacking this guy because the faces are important. Uh, and then for my guy down here, Aragnar, he gets this one. I'm actually going to put this in the same exact spot. We'll put this No, I'm going put this down here. I'm going to give it a little bit more option down there, I think. Yeah, we going to do it down there. All right. And then he gets to place an extra cube. Everybody gets to place seven cubes, one in each spot and one extra, but he gets to place another. And I'm going to go ahead and put that in combat. All right. So, what we'll do is is now on our turn or around goes champions take their turn and then the elder yarns take their turn, which is has to do with these events and stuff over here. And the goal of this scenario is for uh us to protect these uh from being lit. Okay, these little guys here who have intentions to go towards the interest. So, they're going to go towards interest and try to get things done. You have these other two guys who are interested in going to champions. Now, as scenario plays out, some of these guys will sort of level up. These guys actually become like inflamed. You flip them over and they have more abilities and more activations and things of that nature. So, you want to pay attention to that. They're totally activated from this deck here, which will also tell you what happens with our boy Zeus over here. I mean, Thor over here. Okay. So, let's just go
ahead and dig in. Uh, also I should say at the top here you're going to have different dice which we'll get to when I show you what an attack looks like. Uh, but that these are the different types of dice. And then this is also movement. All right. So, speaking of the actions you can take in the game, you have your rondelle actions and then you also have your um they call strategic actions. I'm going to show you a strategic action because we're going to get into that when we attack a little bit. But you have something called a taunt in the beginning of the game. Uh, and you're going to have this card that represents Zeus's faces. That Zeus has these different color faces. I'm going to show you here first. They're different colors that represent the front, back, side, left, and whatever on each side. And show you up here, too. You can see the different sides of his faces. And in the beginning, he'll be trying to face you straight up. You're facing a guy straight in the face. You're going to be trying to fight him off. Probably the worst place to fight a god, right? Well, when you attack that spot, it's going to give you um it's going to give you a certain condition that makes it harder or easier. So, like if I'm attacking him from the back at the exact same time I I do an attack, it makes it easier for me to attack it. And each one of them has different conditions that only allow you to do certain things or they help you out. So, if I'm attacking them from the back, it says an attacking champion rolls a plus one white dice. So, if I'm rolling two dice, I get to roll a third one. Yes. Okay. So, I roll my three dice. Awesome. Those were three blanks.
We do not want to roll those. That roll was that was fake. All right. But if I'm facing off against his front, it says, "Hey, uh, for one of those die, if I roll my dice, let's say I roll two dice. And if I don't Oh, boy. I'm in a blank mood. All right, boy. These are 50/50 dice. But if I when I roll my dice, I have to turn at least one to the retaliation side, which means he's going to hit me back regardless. I'm facing him head on, he's going to bash me right back." So you got to keep in mind the taunt is very very very important. Okay. Another action that is strategic is is you can take cubes from anywhere in your board. Two cubes up to and move them to anywhere on your board. Okay. So that's one of the actions that you can take. That is an actual action. And some of these are actual reactions to things like defense and re-rolling. Um so those are different things that take place during certain parts of your turn. But the typical ones is moving, uh, moving, attacking, and ritual. Those are the ones that you're going to see the most of, and healing. Okay? U, those are the ones you're going to see the most of.
So, let's just go ahead and dig in. I should say that the the actions that you take with your specials are free. So, it's important to note. All right. So, maybe I want to do something like this. Uh, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to go have my boy here, Ragnar, go first. And what we're going to do is is we're just going to start out by using this special action. This says, "Hey, I can move three movement points and I can divide them amongst any champion." So, I'm going to go ahead and before I even take an action, I'm going to start getting moving. One, two, three. Yeah, I think that's what I'm going to do. Then I'm going to try to maybe I want to use it again. Then I'm going to relocate this and this and put them there. Okay, that's one. That's one action.
Then I'm going to move one, two, that's two actions. So, as you can see, as I'm picking up the pieces, wherever they are, that amount of pieces are is going to be how much of that I can do. Movement is just picking up the pieces from whatever spot you want. And when you pick whatever location you choose and moving them, the other ones are actual actions. And then I'm about to take an actual action from one of the spots. This one here allows me to heal. Well, I don't need to heal. I have 12 heal. Uh but I can do a ritual. One of the first actions I can do uh is the ritual. So with a ritual, you take three. You have to have three on the ritual spot to do it to perform it. You take those three off. And once again, I would one, two, three. Okay. When you do a ritual one, you'll put this piece down uh to represent an offering, but you'll get your special uh one of your special tokens back. So, it's a way to regenerate those. But when you put this down and you do an offering, you get what's called an extra boon. And that's what we just did at the beginning of the game. We have these boounds. I'm going to place my boon on top of this, giving me plus one to my damage. So, whatever damage I do, plus one. Okay. Uh so, that would be my turn. We move on to the yellow player, aka also known as Lagartha. All right, Lagartha is probably going to want to defend this, but for right now, I'm trying to pay attention to maybe getting in the path of both. So, why don't we do that? And she's a little bit more defensive because her ability, her actual special
skill has to do anytime when another player suffers damage, she can take temporary tokens. And what that does is it makes her actions that action more powerful temporarily until she uses that action and then they go away. So just kind of pay attention to that with her though. I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and relocate. That's one, two. Yeah, that's one, two. And then for my second action, I'm going to move one, two, three. I'm going to go one, two, three. Um, and then I'm going to prepare one back here. I'm going to move one back. So, I'm kind of in between uh what they're doing here. All right. So, that's that. Okay. So, I've done a movement. I've done a ritual. Uh I can show you just healing is just straight healing. Uh, but attacks. I'm going to show you what an attack looks like. So, let's just say I was right here. All right. And we'll keep our upgrades the way they are and we'll just show you what that looks like. As a matter of fact, I'm going to give myself one of these die. I'm going to give you a couple different things to play with here. Cuz this is fake arios.
What do you What do you What do you care, right? We're just going to You want to see the stuff, right? You want to see the stuff. All right. I'm even going to put some of these here and cheat. Okay. We put some of these here and cheat. Let's go ahead and put some here and cheat a little bit. All right. So, what we're doing is we're fighting we're we're fighting Thor and we're in an area where we're not supposed to be. We're a little close, right? That's okay. We got to do some damage. We are facing We are facing his R side and we're also facing his X side. And we got to pay attention to that because that's going to tell us how many what I mean the dice and what's going to result from them. each side that he has defeated, it tells us, "Hey, man, like each side that you have defeated, it's going to add to the defense of it." So, if he has two two uh places defeated, he's going to have two extra defense to start it out.
So, you really got to be powered up to do this as you move along. Um so, if we're fighting him, let's say we're going to roll uh if I'm at purple, which means I'm behind him, uh I get to roll extra dice. So, what I would do on an attack is this says three, but for her, for Lagartha, if you're using ranged, which I upgraded to range, I am not only attacking what's in front of me, but I can try to attack these two sides, too. So, I can try to say, "Hey, instead of fighting this side, I rather hit X." Or instead of hitting the side with the R, I want to hit purple instead. So, range gives you kind of like a three-prong choice of which one you want to attack. It's not going to attack all three. It's gonna you choose one between the one in front of you, left or right of you. Okay? Uh or you can just attack head-on.
So, let's just say I'm attacking. The champion rolls, I roll a plus one die. I have three. So, if I was taking attack as a action, one two three. Okay. So, I will roll three white dice. Plus, if I have any special dice, which are gained by defeating enemies and getting to certain spots on here and getting the fury points, I'm going to get a green dye. These white dye are 50/50. They have attack on there and they have blanks and then they also have this retaliation. Every monster has a retaliation attack here and the retaliation is based on that number that's there. This one could be three. So I don't want that to happen. But in this one it says I get plus one die. I have three there. I get white. I get an extra white and I get this green. So I'm going to roll these and I'm looking at what this is going to do. One, it's going to heal me which is great. Okay.
I'm going to take three I'm going to do three damage to that spot. So, he's going to get three damage on there on purple. Okay. But then he's going to retaliate. Now, I could get I could be prevented from getting that attack, but it's not going to happen uh when you do retaliation. So, she's going to take three damage. One, two, three. Um, and I heal one. I could have overhealed. I'm just going to go ahead and just give that heal there. Um, but it generally if an enemy is attacking me, like let's say this enemy is attacking me. Let's say that this enemy somehow got here and attacked me. Uh, if they were attacking this person, they say that this person is going to attack this person. The iron troll is going to attack me for four. I could use my special skill to uh to add extra blocks here if I wanted to, or I could use my block here as a reaction. This is rolls and reaction. And I can roll this blank if I wanted to, or I can just do a reaction to this enemy here. So I'll go 1 2 3 4. I've protected myself from four damage. So some of these are reactions which you can do on off turns and then there's some that are actions like attacking, healing, attacking from range and ritual. Those are the actions that you can do in the game. Uh but let's go ahead and talk about when you defeat an enemy. I'm just going to move this guy back and then I'm going to say let's we defeated this enemy. Uh that Lagartha defeated this enemy. So she, this guy
goes down and we take a look at the fury points. What'll happen to him is he's off. He's going to go off stage. He's going to go off the stage and he's going to go back to triangle. So triangle is right here. He's going to be off to the side and then his first activation, he'll come back in and he'll be right there and then he'll act from there. But we're going to get three fury points. So what I'll do is we'll go up one, two, three. And now we've actually passed upgrades. What I'm going to do is is I'm going to put this this upgrade and just upgrade this one to plus one. And then it also says since I got here, I'm going to get another green dice. So, I'm going to put my little piece right here and I'm going to get a green die. And what you're trying to do is upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, defeat enemies, defeat enemies so that you can eventually get to this form. And once you get to this form, you'll get a nice little boon right here. Okay? So, you'll get a little boon right here that would add to my movement. Okay,
that would add to my movement. And then I get three more cubes on here. I'm just going through the whole bit. Okay, moving it to the whole bit. And then I would turn into this bird version of myself so that eventually if say Zeus is over here, I can actually use one of these abilities on my turn. I can ignore all the terrain. I can't I can can fly over walls and stuff like that and fly over to him three spaces away and land where I want to three spaces. So, one, two, I can go three or three right here depending on what face I want to attack. Things of that nature. So, that's what you're trying to get to is attacking these enemies. Try to cycle them out as much as possible. What you're trying to prevent these guys from doing, specifically this guy, is from flipping these over by taking an action and getting there. But let's just show you how they activate. Okay. Actually, I'm going to leave him out here. Why? We're going to leave him out here. We're going to put our put our uh our warriors back where they belong.
Okay. And then we've done our actions. So, our turn is over. But that's all the actions. It's really easy. First thing we do is move our I call it the ticking time bomb forward. We never want it to get here. If it gets here, then the game is over. We have our event deck. Now the event deck is actually general events and then also some actual events from the uh from the scenario. This one says uh the blood this is called blood ritual. The blood sacrifice is made in honor of your journey to save the Idrasil uh strengthen to save egressil strengthen you with uh when the battle grows tough. Champions in human form gain two health. Need it. All right. and champions in berserker form. Berserker form. This is called berserker form. Uh receive one temporary cubes. Okay, so that was that. But I'm just going to show you a couple of these. A lot of these are a little bit different. Like it says each champion in a straight line from uh from any area suffers four damage. They have ones that spread out fire across this thing. And as fire comes out, you're going to take four damage if you enter the spaces with those in it. But you may have to cuz the enemies run through those. They they may remove them, but in order to get to them, you may have to run through fire.
So, it's important to watch out for those. A lot of things can happen from that. So, the first part is pulling those. The next part is pulling from this this enemy deck or the the gods deck here. So, what you're doing is as you look at it says, "Hey, activate one, two, or three." Or it'll say, "Activate these two or these two or these two." something like that. So, I have to activate monsters one and three. Uh, right here, it tells me on the top their health, how many actions they take, how much damage they do, and how much they retaliate, and the fury points they have. It will also tell me what their interest is. So, their interest is getting to these the objective, but also on the way there, if you're there, they're going to attack you. Okay? Now, they're going to attack you if they leave a spot where you are. So, for example, I'm going to move this guy.
He's going to activate twice. One, two. He's not going to attack me until he leaves the spot where I'm at. He's going to go to this objective. One, two. And he's going to go to this objective. So, one, one, and he's not going to he's going to get rerouted because of Zeus. And then two, he's got two activations as well. And it says instead of inflicting a damage or a loss, it grants corruption. So, it's got like a special thing it does. This one here, I'm just going to give you an idea. on the opposite side, instead of inflicting damage or health loss, it grants corruption. And there's different conditions in this game. So, for example, if I get stunned, I have to take these pieces here and place them on top of this like this. That's going to be bad. Okay? And then what'll happen is is that'll be gone for a round. Things of that nature. So, you got to pay attention to this stuff. Um, but like I said before, let's say he moves this one, two. Okay? He moves one, two, because he's coming after me. And then they come and they're coming after me as well. Things of that nature. Those are the only two that will activate during the round. Then we go to Thor and they tell us exactly how it's going to move.
Attack. Move and attack. Move. Move and attack. Those different types of things. So, this one says move to an area with the most adjacent champions. Well, this would be most. So, I'm just going to go with uh here. We're right. Actually, I'm going to go with her because she's right there and she actually had a wound on her. I'm just going to say that. And then um it says inflict damage on all areas active around there. So, it's going to be five damage. Okay. Now, what you can do is say, hey, I need to I need to stop some damage here. So, I'm going to go ahead and use this and I'm going to take two temporary cubes and put them there. All right. So, it says I can take two temporary cubes in any dam uh any blocking space on your rondelle and redirect that damage to yourself. Uh any Oh, another champion suffers. That's right. Another champion.
I forgot. I always forget that. Another champion suffers damage. So, what I can do is at least move this one and that would save me from one damage, but it's going to attack and it's going to do four. So, I would lose four. Okay. Um and then it says move to an adjacent area to the farthest spawning area and turn the face towards it. So this one is one, two away. This one is 1 2 3 4 away. This one is 1 2 3 4 5 6 away. So we're just going to go this one here facing toward it. And it says in the M way like that. So turn it its back. I have an opportunity to move in here and attack it right there. That's pretty much it. It's a very very quick system. Uh a lot of these are very quick. They're going to say, "Hey, this one, this is one and three activating." What you don't want to happen is them to flip this over like these little guys. They start heading towards this thing and if they attack that then you lose the game. Um uh I'm sorry. If all three of these end up flipped, you lose the game. Hopefully I didn't confuse you. There's a lot going on in this game. It's a very action-packed game. You're going to upgrade real fast. You're going to get your abilities. You're going to transform into these cool little things.
And I think this is cool. I actually never seen this before. That's, you know, usually you take that take the guy off and then you put it back on. Uh, but this one's really different, right? You put you put it inside of here, uh, and, uh, you put him inside of here and you become this different form, right? Let me tell you, this game, we came down to an epic five or six die chuck for for nine at the end. It gave me this feeling of like when I play a Through the Death May Die, and I just played that this week. It gives me that feeling in a different way. uh big epic moments, big finales, lots of pressure because 12 rounds, you got to get leveled up, get yourself going, and the the enemy uh Thor gets harder and harder the more locations you knock out. Okay? So, you're trying to knock out those locations, but then as you do it, they get stronger and give you more gives him more defense, and you're like, "Hey, man, it's the eighth round. We are not both in our spirit form, our form, and uh berserker form.
We're not good. We're not in a good place. Hurry up." Right. So, uh there there's that pressure there. And I think that's what's going to exist in all the scenarios is that added in pressure. And thankfully, your turns are easy to take get uh to um take track of and do so that you can get to the fun. And I think that that's what exactly what this does. This this g this game gives you fun moments, exciting moments, epic moments, all in that 60 to 90 minute uh situation. And I think that's what we're all looking for instead of, you know, an all night or 4hour situation, which I am in for that, too. But it's like we we want less of that. We want quick setups, quick beatd downs, and exciting moments. That's what this game does. Um, hopefully I helped you make an informed decision today. You know, I'm a little excited about this one here. Uh, but I can't tell you what to do with your money. Questions, leave them in the comments below. I always try to make sure I answer those things. And with that, party people, you take care and have a wonderful day. Thank you for joining me on NVO.
