Claustrophobia 1692 - Let's Play It!
Transcript
Welcome to the table. Today, Elisha and I are going to be playing for you a little bit of Claustrophobia 1692. This is the third iteration of the game. From what I'm told, it is the best iteration of the game. Uh I've played it a couple times. Elisha's played it once. Elisha will be playing the infernal side of things. I'm the bad guys. She's I think he's trying to say something.
She's more comfortable being the bad guys in these situations.
maneuver you. I am playing the human side. Uh just to give you a brief overview, and we're not going to give you a thorough how to play. If you want to see that, by the way, go over to Meeple University. They have a full how to play video on the game. Uh we will teach you though as we play a little bit here. Uh the human side, I'm in this scenario. So, the game is scenario-based. And in this first scenario, I'm just trying to find an exit. We start here in the middle of the table. And this is one of those games where it's a dungeon crawler that you're going to be exploring as you play. Uh so, there's going to be a bunch more tiles that come out. In this case, I'm trying to find the exit. There's going to be this little token that Elisha plays as the infernal player that is a breath of fresh air. Basically, it's what I can follow to try to find the exit. But if I run into a dead end, it's going to be sort of uh a false trail, and she can put it somewhere else. Uh but that's the objective. Her objective is to kill me. Like that's He invaded my space. Somehow I'm the bad guy. Okay.
All she wants to do is take out all of my characters. I just need to get two of my characters to the exit. Uh Like I said, uh we're going to teach as we play. So, we're going to try to jump right into this and cover on some of the rules as we play. The first thing is the humans are going to go first, and they have the preparation phase and an activation phase. This is a really interesting game. While you see dice, this isn't what I would call a dice chucker. You are going to roll dice to resolve some of the combat, but a lot of the strategy in this game really kind of reveals itself as you play because you're going to want to utilize the rules that are in place for character placement and movement and whatnot in order to try to strategically position yourself uh so that it's harder for the other player to do what they want to do.
But, we'll jump right in. I'm going to roll my preparation dice. Uh I've got a one, two twos, and a four. Now, I'm going to assign these to each of my characters. Each of the characters has a board that has one through six and then a line of stats next to it. Depending on what die I place, those are the stats I'm going to have. The stats are movement, combat, and defense, and then there may be some other things, which I'll show you right now. On my condemned brute, I'm going to place a two. So, my stats for her are going to be one movement, three combat, and four defense, plus there's a little symbol that suggests that I get a card. These are insight cards for the heroes. So, I'm going to draw one of those. These insight cards do a couple different things. Right now, I could use this one to change one of these remaining die to a different number as indicated in the top left-hand corner, or I'll be able to use this during my activation to do something else. But, I can have up to four of these if I have four heroes still alive. As I lose heroes, which will likely happen, uh I can only hold one per active hero. So, I'm going to place another die. I'll place the one on the condemned scout, which also gets me another card.
Uh ooh. Interesting. So, I'm actually going to use a card I just picked up. It's called resilience. I'm not going to use it for its power, but I'm going to use it to change one of these die to a six. Uh so, I will discard this card. I'm going to change this four to a six and place it down here, which sets the condemned another condemned scout, but also gets me another insight.
Another card. Ooh, I like this one. I'm going to keep on that. And then lastly, I'm going to put my two on my redeemer. I'm not sure how every scenario goes, but I think in most cases you always have the redeemer as part of the human group. The redeemer is kind of a special character. In this scenario, he comes with a couple extra cards, the prescience card and the aura of courage. And the aura of courage has a number two on it, so that whenever I place a two die on this character, I'm able to activate that aura of courage to put it on another player. This one says, "The effect of this gift starts at the end of the human preparation phase, which is what I'm in right now. Choose another allied warrior. They gain plus one movement, plus one combat, and plus one defense until the beginning of the next human preparation."
Uh let's see. Do I have anyone? I don't have anyone with two movement, uh but I'm going to go ahead and put it on the condemned scout. Uh so, the condemned scout has some advanced stats. Prescience is another one. If I place a five on the uh redeemer, I'm able to sort of better navigate the tiles that are going to come out. Otherwise, the tiles are kind of controlled somewhat by the infernal player. So, now it's time to activate. Are you ready? I was born ready. The infernal player is lying in wait silently,
uh ready to pounce. And by the way, before we get going, that is one thing you'll notice early on in this game, or at least in this scenario, the infernal player might have trouble getting some of their forces out onto the board, but this is a game of kind of longer-term strategy, so you're going to be You'll see, Alicia probably doing some things that kind of like build up, so that once the moment comes, she'll be able to pounce and pounce pretty big.
Yeah, there's some cuz there are rules to how I can enter the board. All right, first thing that you have to do is place this to indicate which direction the breeze is coming from.
Let's see. Also, note as she's doing this uh we have limited table space. So, this this table can get kind of out of or this game can get pretty big. Uh it would fit on this table, but given the camera situation that we have set up we might be adjusting and moving some things. So, where are we going?
Are we this way? Sure. Um okay. It doesn't really matter too much.
I think that will work. Um like I said, we'll adjust things if we need to. Um now, the way this scenario works is every time I move in that direction towards the breeze, we are going to move around this track. Uh once I get to 10 if I do that again and explore off of a tile, instead of drawing from this stack, we draw that tile that is that that countdown. And it's the exit. That's all I'm looking for. So, I just need to sort of keep following that breeze as much as I possibly can, find the exit, and get out. Okay. So, with that said I am going to do just that. Uh I'm going to take my redeemer. Okay. And I'm going to move him here. Okay. Uh because I don't have prescience, I'm going to take the top tile, we'll reveal it. Ooh. Oh, great. It's a dead end.
Dead end. And then there's a little symbol here. Does that mean anything for us? Yeah, so a lot of the tiles are going to have symbols. In this case, this is a treasure chest. In this scenario, the treasure chest doesn't mean anything, but in other scenarios, the tiles operate very differently and gives a lot of flavor from scenario to scenario, but in this case, it doesn't. That is just a dead end. And when she places a tile, she has to place it so I can enter it. So, there's only one way to place that. And that is like so. Now, if this tile had had a space that I could exit off of, uh she would have to place this on one of those exit. It doesn't, so now she's going to go to the next closest tile and place it anywhere. If you Wherever you want.
I'm going to go this way. All right. So, I entered this. Uh that was my movement and I have an action I could take, but there are no scenario actions I can take and there's nothing to fight. So, there's really nothing else for the Redeemer to do. I'm going to move my dice so that I know that we've used the Redeemer and move on to the next character. Uh well, oh, we didn't do that. So, move that down cuz I followed the breeze.
If you lose track, just it's the number of tiles that are out here.
Kind of. Unless I Well, unless I travel off unless I travel off one side that doesn't follow the breeze. I don't know why I would do that. But, it's possible.
wants to explore.
If If I just want the game to go longer and explore. This is fun. Uh but, yeah, mostly in in most cases it will be the number of tiles unless you're adventurous anyway. Um all right. Well, I'm going to take my condemned brute, this person right here. She has a movement of one. I'm going to move her here. So, first things first, move that. I'm one step closer to following the breeze.
Boop. We reveal the tile. I wish I could control which tiles were coming out.
it's not like it's a a big plus. I feel like it is what it is. All right. So, there's no uh effect on this tile. Uh one of the things though that you want to note is there are think numbers in the corners, that's how many figures can be on that tile from either side. So, this one says three. I could have three of my uh humans here and she could have three of her infernal uh either troglodytes or demons. Uh this one's a five and that one's a three. And some of them you'll see are like narrow passageways, so it'll be like one. Mhm. And we might have to adjust the table very soon.
Yep. And so because this has an exit, the breeze continues on here. Um And my condemned scout hasn't gone. This is the guy with sort of the rapier. And he got the aura of courage, so he can move two. Ooh. So I'm going to move him. I'm going to move my stuff over just a little. Okay. And I'm going to move him one two. Okay. So we'll see what's what. Oh. Oh. That's a scary looking tunnel. This looks like a little horn. All right. So as she places that, I'll look at the player aid. There is a
horn. Oh. This is not great. Alarm. During the next threat phase, which is a part of her turn, The infernal infernal player rolls one additional diablery dice. I do? So that you'll see in a second. She would normally throw or roll three of her dice to activate her things. And a fourth one is big. Like that's a lot of extra. That's a lot of stuff, guys. Oh boy. Oh. That's how you move. Oh, and that goes again. Breeze moves. This moves. I mean, holy cow, David. You're like halfway through the
quickly running out of space. Things can go south, though. Like this is how I started last night when we had a a warm-up session. And then Alicia brought in a ton of guys. She rolled pretty well. And I was like, "Roar." And she she destroyed me. Hopefully that's not what happens here. So that is that guy and her. I have one more character, her. She can only move one and I don't want to oof. So here's an interesting thing. Um part of that strategy I was talking about, when she spawns enemies onto the board, there's a couple significant rules. There's a few rules, but there's a couple significant ones. One, she has to go onto a tile that has an open entrance. So, this tile has an open entrance to unexplored area. This tile has unexplored area. These two don't.
So, that disqualifies those two tiles. The other rule is I can't have a presence there. And right now I have a guy here, and she's right there. So, right now she really couldn't spawn, which is what I'm going to, I think, let happen. Uh because if I were to move her here, she could spawn crazy amounts of troglodytes here. Uh so five. Um so, I'm actually going to stay put with that character and [snorts] leave them right there. It's effectively not doing anything. I know that feels a little anticlimactic, but this is how the game is played. This is where the strategy comes into play for sure because you really need to manipulate these rules against the other player. Uh so, that is the end of my turn, and now it's the beginning of the infernal turn. And your phases are uh infernal preparation, which is kind of like mine, then the threat, then the activation. So, go ahead.
All right. So, with that, I am going to prepare. I need to roll my dice, but because of something over there, I get four. Uh because of this tile right here, I get a fourth one.
a fourth die. Noise.
These dice are red and white, and they number one to three. Uh and you'll see how they work in a sec.
Well, yeah. As soon as I roll, I get to assign them. Ooh, crap. They're all white.
All white. All white. Let me see. So, I can place two white here, and my troglodytes will gain a movement.
What's that called? Supernatural speed?
Supernat- supernatural speed. I can talk today, I promise. Uh if I had red dye, I could do frenzied, which would uh make them frenzy.
Reroll dice if when fighting.
Reroll dice.
no red dye. I don't have any. Or I can do abysmal threat. So a lot of this is like I can pull some things here because my next turn I'll still get three or four. No, you get three. This is just for the next turn after that's revealed.
Okay, so I'll still get three dye even though I assign maybe unused them because I can't summon out here. So I think I will You also have So abysmal threat gives her what's called materia prima. These are these little crystals. That's what she'll ultimately spend in order to summon creatures. All the troglodytes just cost one and she has four right now. And then her demon, which is who? Uh the hunter. The hunter. So each scenario might have a different demon. In fact, the scenarios suggest that your first time with this one try the hunter, but you could try whatever demon you want, which is kind of cool. Um he in this case costs five materia prima to summon. Um so how what's she going to do? Oh yeah, that one for the card.
got this one for the card, but intrepid charge allows me to place dye with a value of seven or more and then the presence of human warriors on a tile doesn't prevent me from summoning. So Breaks the rule.
I can break the rule, but I have to commit seven pips worth of dye. Which is all your dye. Oh no, no, it's not. It's just three of them. Oh. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Exactamundo. This alarm is going to kill me. Boop boop boop. I'm going to go ahead and do these here. And then I think I will do the dark destiny and I will place one dye of any value and then I draw a number of in- uh infernal will cards equal to the value and I keep one and discard the other. So, since I put a three there I get to choose one from three. And ooh. And while she's picking, I'll tell you a little bit about her infernal will cards and my instant cards. When you're playing them for their power, often times her infernal infernal will cards uh say right on the ability like when you would play them and it can be just about any time. Like you there's even some in there that let her play them like while I'm doing stuff to mess with what I'm doing. Uh but most of the cases it's stuff during her turn. Mine are all played during my various turns. Uh I can use them as the die during preparation but all the other abilities I can use pretty much while I'm activating. All right.
You got one that you're going to keep?
one and I discarded the other two. I have a tough troglodyte and I play this card during my threat phase and I place a tough troglodyte on the tile of my choosing only taking into account the occupation limit. So, this bad boy Oh, that lets you break the rules, too. Yep. Sounds like he's kicking some. Yep. Uh are you going to do that?
Yeah. Are you just going to hold off on that? You don't have to play it. I think so. So, she's moved on to her threat phase. The preparation phase was basically rolling the dice, placing the dice. Uh you've activated this one.
Yep. So, I boop it down. Uh those are I guess will effectively be activated here.
Activated if I'm going to go ahead and summon. So The first thing is that? Uh yeah. So, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to signify my
my tough guy.
You know they're tough when they have a red ring around their base. That's right.
That's in just in life.
That sounds personal. I feel like you should see a doctor. All right. I dropped my dice down. Uh I I I'm going to boop. Oh, hi. So, you can go anywhere with the tough troglodyte as long as it's just occupation.
Yep. So, as long as she obeys the occupation of the tile, she could ignore all those other two major rules for placement. So, you place them there. I'm like, "Surprise."
the other thing she can do during the threat phase is just spend materia prima to place other troglodytes. Right. So, it's one per, so I can place up to four, which I think I'm going to do. Wait, I can't I can't
No, you can because of that.
That's right. And only in this space or this space. So,
no. No, I think you can Oh, yes. Yes, I'm sorry. Excuse you. My bad. Yeah. So, here and here is still safe because she has to obey that open-ended rule, but where I have people, she can break. Yeah. Uh you have room for two more here. Yerps. And here you're also going to see, depending on where she chooses to place these, you'll see another piece of the strategy because one of the things that probably more of the infernal player can do than the human player is there's something called blocking when it comes to movement. As long as there's equal numbers, so like right now I have a guy and she has a guy in this tile, Yep. either of us could move off of that tile. But as soon as it's outnumbered, so if she plays one more here, my guy, generally speaking, isn't able to move.
Now, I will point out to you and remind you that that particular guy is elusive. He has the ability elusive, so he can ignore that rule anyway and slip out even if there's like a whole bunch of enemies there.
that's the same case for this girl, too, right?
She is elusive, too. Amazing.
As a matter [clears throat] of fact. Oh, great. I'm going to still boop and I'm going to boop.
Boop is an official term, by the
And a boop. Yeah. It's not in the rule book. I'm kidding.
the very technical troglodyte term. Uh you can put one more there or there. I can, can't I? I think
But they will elude you. That's all right.
Except you will attack right now anyway, so they can't elude that. Okay. So. That's your threat phase. Now you move on to the activation phase and this is much like mine. It's a little more simplified because she's effectively going to be moving and attacking, attacking and moving or just one or the other. Okay. So I assume you're going to just be attacking. Or you I guess you could move and attack any one of those guys, too. Correctamundo. And is this guy elusive and is this one elusive?
The two of them are not elusive, but I will tell you she is a bodyguard, which is an effect that allows her to if she's on the same tile as someone who's getting attacked, she can take the the hits in instead.
Okay. She's also impressive, which means regardless of whether a troglodyte is elusive or not, she's so impressive that no enemy can leave her tile. They're like, "God bless."
Like she's impressive she's impressive. Check that lady out. Um, and the other guy is blessed and devoted. I'll let you decide what you want to do in the terms of attack.
super special guy.
Blessed, once per scenario, this warrior can bless another warrior of their choice, so that really won't affect what you're doing, but they can help uh boost some stats of someone else. And devoted, this warrior can use certain gifts Oh, that's just my gifts. Devoted means he has these two gifts. So that's it. All right.
What you going to do? You don't have to attack. You can just scare me. Is that right? I mean, I I came out to threaten David and I tend to follow through. All right, so, uh my tough guy, does he have is he like buffer?
Yeah, he is that guy right there, so put him right here if you will. He's got
And he's impressive, too. Somebody else is He is impressive. So, oh, so he I can't I'm not elusive because of that. Cuz I'm so impressed with the tough troglodyte. He's also got two movement, still just one combat, but five defense, which is pretty tough.
That's pretty solid. Cuz he is a tough Cuz normal troglodytes are 1 1 and 3. I mean, my hunter, my big bad, for goodness sake, is 2 1 and only 4. So, But he's got a lot more hit points than Hunter. That's That's also fair.
whether they're tough or not, they're one and done. If I hit them once, they're off the board. And then, yeah, I mean, he can't be summoned again unless I were to draw another card, correct? This is true. Mhm. Whereas with the regular troglodytes, they can just keep popping up.
Yeah, I think there might be at least another tough troglodyte card in here, but I don't know. Hopefully it's way down at the bottom. Are you going to attack me? Uh yeah, I'm going to start here and
the tough guy? Yeah, I think so, cuz I think I've got decisions to make over here still, so. So, the combat is one, which means she's just going to roll one die. Now,
just doing this guy for ze moment.
And she's attacking my condemned scout or one of my condemned scouts, and based on his stats, his defense right now is three, but he has the aura of courage. No, he doesn't. The other dude does. He cast it on this guy. That's what this token means. So, he has the aura of courage, so his defense is actually four. So, I have to roll a four or better for it to be six plus one.
It's not bad chance, and you were rolling really well last night.
I I said last night, I was like, "I'm never going to roll this well on camera." AND SHE DID. OKAY, I'M GOING TO PRE-APOLOGIZE FOR ALL OF THE booms and the yay's and the wahoos. Technically not a pre-apology No. since one just happened. So, if you're wearing a headset, I'm super sorry.
Yeah, if you've ever watched Alicia play a game with me
Any games I've won. Yeah, and I will also hopefully not have to bleep out any curse words too much. But the skull, by the way, is the six and no matter what someone's defense is, the skull is a guaranteed hit. Critical damage. What's interesting about this, when a human allocates damage, I'm going to take one of these little bars that have stats on them. The stats are 003. So, no movement, no combat, and just a defense of three, and I fill up one of my six slots. So, this means it's making those stats worse. And if I have to place a die on this there's it's not good. It's not good. And once a character, any one of the characters has all six of their slots filled up this way, they're off the board and out of the game. So
deadski. There you go. Uh
[sighs and gasps]
Uh and this is a decision because like I can place this on one of these spaces that doesn't give me a card, but maybe it has two movement and there's not a lot of movement in this game. So, I'm actually going to place it right here on the three spot of him.
Okay. Okay. Uh that was the tough troglodyte. Next. Uh next I'm going to do this precious little turd blossom.
And he still needs to have a four, five, or six to be successful. And one. One.
He was too impressed with the other troglodyte. He's like, "How am I going to beat this?" He's just enamored with his big brother.
All right, are we moving on over here?
Moving on. Moving on. Let's see.
Now, because now, if you're not going to move any of these guys and attack anyone else, you can in some cases just roll multiple dice. Like right now, she could just roll three dice against the person just to sort of streamline things. But you might want to, when you're playing, do them one at a time. But, for sake of time on this video, if you're going to do that, you can roll all three.
Okay. I think what I'm going to first do is I'm just going to move these two guys in here, so we can block old homeboy in the dead end.
trying to lure into rolling all three against that one. I know. I know. I felt it. So, I'm going to go ahead and roll two die. I'm going to have these two guys attack that one.
My redeemer. What do I have to roll to be successful?
He's at four, as well. Okay. I feel A BOOM BOOM. I FEEL A SHE GOT one four.
I got one boom. So, that is one bar. Uh I'll put it down here. Um and then you've just got this one troglodyte left.
I sure do. Is she going to Now, I will tell you, the person they're with right now has a five. Woo. And this person Uh-huh. has a four. Uh and keep in mind, you could still even go in there if you wanted to. And really try to mess them up.
my redeemer. Although, my redeemer is Well, he's not elusive, so he's going to have a hard time getting out of that dead end. But,
Period. you could trap him in there and just wail on
what? I think I will go ahead because in the event you try to move a dude in there and try to equal the numbers, you're going to have to move lots of dudes in there to get them out. So,
I'm going to go ahead and do that.
Here we go. Four, five, or six. Come on. And one. Ah. Uh this is like last night. It was very quiet. This is my nightmare.
All right. Uh I'm going to place this I mean, I don't want to say it's his fault, but it kind of
the other thing. With the redeemer, I don't want to put on the two and the five, either, because that's what his gifts are.
Oh. Okay.
I put on one, I can't activate those gifts anymore.
That's a waste, yeah.
stinks. Uh so, I'm going to put it way down here on the six, which is his best defense, but it is what it is.
Cool, cool, cool. So that is the end of the Infernal player's turn. And now we're going to bounce back to me. We're going to play one more round for you.
Okay. And then we're going to go off camera and go close to finishing the game and then we'll come back and play another. But we're going to do one more round. So I collect all of my dice. Uh, I'm going to take my aura of courage off of here and put it back where it belongs. Uh, and let's roll. Ooh.
Okay, that's a nice spread. So I've got a five, six, and two.
on a specific person.
think um, I think I want to put the five on my Redeemer though. Cuz his that's a high defense and he's not in the greatest position right now.
He's been cornered. Uh, ooh. Do I have a I don't have a I could change the values. I'm going to do a five. Ooh, okay. So when I do the five, it uh, activates prescience. Uh, this is one of his gifts. It says, "Place this card on top of the pile of Hellscape tiles until used." I'm going to place it right here. Then when I explore or if I explore this turn, which I guess I should see if I'm going to do that. Uh, probably will. Um, instead of taking the top tile and giving it to Alicia, I take the top three tiles, I choose one of them, and I orient it the way I would like it oriented. So Bologna.
I'm going to place that there.
In my house. Um, the six I think here. Uh, I'm going to place a four right here on the condemned scout that's right there. A six on this guy right here because he needs some defense plus a six gets me another card. These aren't horrible. And then the two is going on my condemned brute, which also gets me a card, which by the way brings me up to my hand limit for these cards, but I got to tell you I don't mind having these cards. Now I'm going to activate. I'm going to move my condemned brute first. Okay. One, to come in here.
Uh [clears throat] and when she's got a combat value of three this round. So I'm going to attack the troglodytes now. With the troglodytes it's unique. Uh when you attack a troglodyte, if you use multiple dice, you can spread other damage from them to other troglodytes, which would include the brute in this case. And she has a combat of three, so I'm going to roll three dice.
Against my tough troglodyte? Well, Why are you rolling three? Because she has a combat value of three. Um I'm not sure the rules on this, uh because this is a prototype by the way, I didn't mention that earlier. Um but I'm going to have I'm going to say that it has to I'm going to target the little troglodyte. The little baby? Yeah. I don't I don't know if the spillover will affect the tough troglodyte.
Oh, that's fair. We'll play it as it as it doesn't. Unless I roll a five or higher. Okay, well. Oh, well.
that's plenty. So
That's did did did did did
That's going to kill both of those guys.
Excuse you. Yeah, I'm sorry. Not really though. Oh. This is good. Uh because uh she's done. And now with my condemned scout here, uh he only has a movement of one, but I am going to move here, which moves that down one more time.
Boopity boop. Uh that's all correct, right? One, two, three, four, yep.
Um And now I get to look at tiles. And I'm just going to show you. Don't look. You can look. Um I've got a straight path. Ooh. I've got a T-shape path. Oh.
Ooh. But there's an icon on this one that allows her to place a tunnel token somewhere else so that it effectively will make wherever she places that tunnel token adjacent to this tile for her. That's not good. That is going on the bottom. That's is baloney. Oh, and this one is a trap. So, if I place this one, she gets to roll a die to see if I get hurt by the trap. Um I'm I kind of want to see that.
It's going to be It's going to be this one.
I think Yeah, you're going to do that one, but the next two
It's going to be this one. Okay.
So, he moves on, and this is just going to go here because it has nowhere else to go. I'm going to move this up in case some of this isn't on the camera. I think it's good. Boop. Um So, that's his move. So, he's done. She's done. And I think she's going to have to help him out. Uh yeah, she is going to have to help him out. So, she's going to move on to this tile temporarily, hopefully, and attack.
She only has an attack of one. Hold on. Mm. Uh I'm going to play the skill on her, which is called skill. This warrior gains plus one combat. Okay, so she rolls two dice.
So, she rolls two dice, and the troglodytes are what?
Three. Oh. So, three or higher. It's not that big of a barrier. Well, one dice. That's the sound a troglodyte makes when they die. Yeah. Um she's done. And now the redeemer is going to go. Uh and I could just move. Yes.
Because it's two to two now.
Correct.
But, if I move, then I don't have anything to fight. So, I'm going to fight first. He only has one die, unfortunately. So, here goes one against the troglodytes. Ooh.
And that's a nothing. He's not redeemed. But, I am going to have him move here. [snorts] Mainly so that you can't spawn easily right there. So, you are also again in a non-spawn situation unless you roll really well. Yeah, I would have to roll really well. Uh and that is my turn. So, it's over to you.
So, I only get to roll three die this time, which kind of stinks. And I don't have Remind me of the name of the gems that I need in order to summon
Materia Prima. Oh, so fancy. So, you can get those pretty easily. I could. Um but you don't have anything to You have no place to spawn. Sure, but I also
to be a build-up round, I think. Correct, cuz I really can't do much.
do have those troglodytes. I do. I do. So, you could like frenzy them maybe. Um okay, I don't want to give ideas. I don't want to give ideas. Oh, looks like a 3-3 and a three. And two are red, which makes Is that the frenzied? Yeah, frenzy takes red. Um I could get Materia Prima. I could I couldn't because I wouldn't have enough I don't have Materia Prima to do
She's in the situation where she could use the dice to break that rule, but without any Materia Prima, she can't spawn anyway, so that would be a waste. All right. And then remind me, what do I need in order to pull out
guy? The hunter? Five Materia Prima. And by the way, when you place here, they have to all be one color, but you get three Materia Prima per die.
Yes, yes, yes. Which is pretty significant. So, you could get six Materia Prima if you put the red ones there. That's true. Um or you could frenzy those two little troglodytes and let them Let them go crazy. Yeah, and frenzy it again means that I get to re-roll unsuccessful die. Once,
but yes. Any unsuccessful die she has is that's not bad.
Not too shabby. I think I will
[sighs and gasps]
go ahead and do the frenzy. Frenzied. And then I'm going to go ahead and look at some more cards. So I'm going to do that first and see what kind of cool stuff I can get.
can do some wild things. And her frenzied troglodytes uh they'll like she could use you could use those to attack the person they're next to, but since it's two to one there, they could also move and keep pounding away at the redeemer. The cards are one of the things over the three iterations of claustrophobia. I feel like the game design uh it's continued to be tweaked and and and balanced if you will uh throughout every iteration, but this one kind of leans a little even a little bit more I think into the cards than even the second edition of the game. The first one didn't really much at all. They had cards, but they worked quite a bit differently. You know what? I like this one. That one or the one that one?
All right. Go on with your my bad self. So the threat phase is nothing unless this plays during the threat phase. Oh wait, hold on it does.
Oh. But I do need to boop them for some frenzy. Uh and then I can play this card during the threat phase. Tis the threat phase. And then I get to choose a tile and roll one combat die for each human warrior on it. And if I roll greater or equal to three, that warrior suffers a hit. What is it? Toxic gas. Oh. This is dungeon-y stuff. Uh so who do you which tile? Let me see. Who's Who's hurt the most? My redeemer out in the center. I think uh I think I'm going to go And you roll a die per what? Per human in there. Oh, okay. Well, I'm it's good that I'm spread out anyway.
Exactly. But, it seems pretty cool. And equal or greater than a three. Okay. Ready for This is nice for you.
Yeah, bring on THE BOOM. YES! ALL RIGHT. THE REDEEMER TAKES ANOTHER HIT. Um I feel like
[sighs]
I don't want to cover up the two and the five, but I'm covering up a lot of his ability to do things. I'm going to cover up the one spot, which is his best combat spot, but Yeah. So, that was your threat phase cuz you can't summon anyone cuz you don't have material for that.
I still got dudes out. Yeah, that's the next that's the activation. So, activation you can do your two trial of the dice out there. I got
So, they're just going to attack her? Yeah, and what's what's her defense? Her defense is three. Your only other option would be to move both of them on the Redeemer, but his defense is five. Oh, yeah. That's that's no bueno. All right. Three or better? Three or better. A one. She got a two and a sky.
excited. So, that's her first hit. Uh I think I will do it on this line here. Question mark?
I mean, it's really Later in the game so many of these will be filled that I'm just hoping I can manipulate my dice with cards in order to get them on spots that are not exhausted. That's by by the way what they're called. When there's a bar there, that line is exhausted and when they're all filled, you're completely exhausted so much that you're dead. Yeah, and speaking of which, the hunter, he gets to prey on the weak. So, whenever he's attacking a character, he gets an extra die per exhausted skill. Yeah, it's really interesting. This game is one where when you play these scenarios, not all of scenarios are even like necessarily balanced perfectly for each side. Some of them lean one way, some of them lean the other way. But like the hunter, I've noticed over plays, some people will want to get that hunter out early
Mhm. because it's like oh, I want to get my big bat out of the board. But
But their power is not as good because early I don't have as much damage on me. Later, the hunter can just come in and go squish squish squish.
Yeah, which is what I kind of did last time and I just started to destroy everybody. All right, so that is the end of the second round. This is how the game is going to proceed. We're going to play a bunch more rounds, evolve this map quite a bit. Hopefully I can find the exit. Is this where it needs to be? Did we Okay. I I have 1 2 3 4 Oh, I've got five more explorations to do to find the exit and I need to get two of my people there. But we'll come back and show you a later round when things are looking a little differently. Hopefully I haven't died before then.
Oh yeah. Well, we didn't play a ton of extra rounds. I think we just played two more rounds, I think. I can't even remember. It went really fast.
Just enough to start crushing.
And it well, for her. Uh
I think the first round we played off camera, nothing happened too much for you, but you you did set things up. I moved around here, so I am now just two explorations away from finding the exit. I'm hopefully be able to do something close to that here. But then the following round, she was able to bring out a ton of people including her hunter. Mhm. Uh also, I don't know if this was on camera, I think it was, when you placed the tunnel.
Nope. Oh, it wasn't. So, we placed this tile here which let her place a tunnel token right
talk about tunnels. And the tunnel allowed her to spawn here because I had moved my two I was basically trying to get everyone as close to here as possible. Uh I had two guys here. She spawned in here. Moved some guys in here. And let's all have a moment of silence for the redeemer. He's out of the game. She filled my board. She came in with those three troglodytes. I came in with eight. Oh, yeah. She She
I came in here. I came in there, and then I moved. Oh, yeah. By the way, this tile here is the troglodyte nest, which always allows for troglodytes to spawn there, breaking those two major rules.
Cuz this is my house. Yeah, so that's a really horrible tile to come out.
Especially right here. Yeah, next to the exit. Yeah, so the redeemer, he's off the board, which is unfortunate cuz now that prescience and the aura of courage are no longer in the game for me. Yeah. I have three people left. Two of them are right here. Hopefully, I can get these I don't know that she's making it. Uh I wish he could use the tunnel. Unfortunately, only troglodytes can use the tunnel. Uh the infernal player has that benefit, but I do not. Uh Hopefully, I can get these two guys there. Um Was there anything else they missed? I don't think so.
Toxic gas, you got me on That was on camera.
We already talked about that. But, yeah, it was I came in hot. I came in frenzied, and I came kicking butt. Yeah, plus her um hunter has a ranged attack. I think he got Did he get a pot shot on her, or did he miss?
No, it was a swing and a miss on that. But, he does have the ability to from an adjacent tile try to take a swing.
What's nice, too, is because she's impressive, my condemned brute, um no one can move off of this tile, and my condemned scout over here hopefully can get all the way to the exit. Wow.
Uh but, we're going to play one round for you, and then we'll finish the game and come back and tell you what things
I'll tell you what badly I murdered all of his party. Or we'll just report that I got two of my guys to the exit. TBD.
All right, here are my preparation dice. 5 6 4 2.
Okay. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm going to reroll those cuz I only rolled three of them.
That's right, cuz one guy's dead.
One guy's dead. Dead guys don't get dice.
1 1 3 Put it on a t-shirt. Dead guys don't get dice. Okay, here's the good news.
it. Two of my guys' threes are exhausted, so I'm going to put the three on the condemned brute, which gets me a car let's see. Let's see. Hold on for a second. Hold on a minute. I've got some cards here that I think I might use to move things a little more quickly. You know what? I am going to change I'm going to use this Oh, this is rough. This is rough. I'm going to use energy of despair not for its power, but this one lets me change to a five, so I'm going to discard that and change this one to a five, and then I'm going to place that on the condemned scout. All right.
So he can move twice. Now. Senior pirate pants? Senior pirate pants. He is He is a bit of a three musketeers looking vibe anyway. That's true. Um then I will put this one on the condemned the other condemned scout, which is her, and that does let me draw another instinct card. Um okay. Um and then the three is going to go on my condemned brute, which would also get me a card, which I can't take. Oh, I can't even have four. Oh, no. I cheated. I have to put this card back.
I didn't know that there was a hand limit. There's one per active hero. And now I only have three active heroes, so I have three cards. So do you still want to place on
Yes, that's that's my bet. I don't have many options. Fair. I've got a lot of exhausted slots going on. So that's that's my dice. Um first things first, I think I'm going to go ahead and just have Now here's the interesting thing. You've got a limit here. Yeah. If I knock these guys out I can move more in.
You can move more in. Yeah. Uh and this guy is ranged anyway, so he doesn't even have to move in. Nabra. I feel like her best bet though is still to just take those guys out. So I'm going to attack. She's got combat of three.
Okay. Uh let me see if I have anything that's going to help. I'm going to play vigilance on her. That gives her a defense of plus one for this round.
Oh, wow. Okay. Okay. It won't help me right now, but oh the dice. You get one. I got one.
You are rolling dice at the end of the day, so sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
It's fine. Uh that is her. Uh she Over yonder. Over there she can only move one, but does she have anything? She is elusive, so I am going to go ahead and have her attack first. Oh. Uh-oh.
Nice. She has an attack of three this round. So her combat is three. Hopefully this rolls better against those troglodytes. Just one.
One.
Slowly but surely. Uh and then she will move because she's elusive down into here. So make a run for it, guys. And I only have one more character to use, and it is the condemned scout. Uh he's going to move here. Oh, wait. But aren't you able to Are you going to try to
Oh, you're right. You're right. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Not that I'm trying to encourage David,
Yes, but I didn't use this. And Alicia just asked me like before we started recording she goes, "Have you used that gun?" And I'm like, "Oh, I'm going to use that on this round." Uh the blunderbuss. This condemned scout has had this whole time, but it never really worked out to where ranged combat worked out, or if it did, I missed it. But it gives him range, and he gets a plus one combat uh for these attacks. So, he's going to use the blunderbuss against these guys. He has an attack of one but plus one because he's using the blunderbuss against those guys. Here it is. Nice. Blam. Hopefully she didn't take any tertiary damage there. Now he's going to move one.
Oh. Okay. Okay. Place that how you see fit. We'll just do yonder. That's pretty cool. There's a dinosaur. Where are you going to place this? Down here so we can keep it on camera. It doesn't matter too much.
Sure. Yeah, I'll do that. There we go. Trying to keep as much of this on camera for you as possible. Okay. And he has another movement.
What? No. Yeah. He has two movements. So, he's going to move here. Which moves that up and now instead of taking out the stack, we place the exit. And as soon as he moves on the exit, as far as I've interpreted the rules, he exited. So, he comes off the board. One of my two guys that I need to get exit. I need to get her done. But it is Alicia's turn as I am done. All right. I'm going to roll my three die. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh. I want to roll so well. She moves so slowly. It's going to take her forever to get over here.
She's a one. Is that right?
Well, she the Well, she Yeah, her movement's always one no matter what now because I covered up her two twos. Actually, does she even have twos? I don't know. All right. I've got a couple of white ones.
She packs a punch but she's not quick. Uh yeah, I think I'm going to go ahead and do that cuz then I can get some more dudes out and then I'm going to go ahead and do this and take a look at some cards. This is extra movement by the way.
Oh, shoot. You mean this? This what I meant. Yeah. Just kidding.
Intent, you know. Uh so, I'm going to go ahead and boop that down. I'm going to TAKE A LOOK. OH, NO. BOOP.
ALL RIGHT. I GOT SIX. Tough Troglodyte. Mhm. Boop. And he's free. Mhm. Oh, and you can place them anywhere. Well, you may as well place them. Boop. Well, hm. He's impressive, the Tough Troglodyte? Yep. Pretty sure.
I'll let you play your game.
Wait. Hold on. Cuz you wouldn't be able to move. Because you're impressive. I I'm impressive, you can't move. Yeah, yeah. Those don't cancel. You're impressive We're both of it I think just impressed with each other. We're just sitting there mouth agape just like, "Whoa."
"Whoa, you're super cool."
going to fight or what?
Are we going to fight or are we going to make out? I can't tell. I was wondering if you're going to place it here to make it so she couldn't move, but she's got a long road ahead of her. She's going to die most likely.
That's two guys. Yeah, but I mean, I She's closest to the exit.
best move because yes. Unless I kill him on the next turn, I can't move with her.
But, I mean,
just the tough. So, I'm going to go ahead and spend those to bring out six guys. When you
Can you get six Oh, yeah, you can.
I can, Dave. So, I can do Yeah, yeah, for sure.
you can get guys. You can't You guys get here? Oh, can I? Yeah, cuz it has an open edge. Mhm. Uh you can get guys here if there's space. Yeah, there's space for one guy here, five guys here, two more guys there. Two guys Oh, yeah, you can put guys out.
to go ahead and put two guys here. How many can I get here?
You can have three guys here. I'm going to go ahead and put three. They're like hanging by the exit.
Yeah, they're like, "Oh, oh, did you want to leave, bro?" And then I'm going to go ahead and put this one here. Yeah. Okay, and now activate.
And now I get to do stuff.
is going to be rough. Oh. Okay, so my guy is impressive. All right, so I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to use this guy. He's got an attack of one. I have to get a what? Her defense is four, sadly. I didn't play a card on her. That's the one, four?
Yep, four or higher. Woo, swinging a miss.
Not so tough, tough troglodyte.
shoot.
can roll the other two if you want.
go ahead.
Oh, you can move him. Oh, no, that's right. I keep thinking you can move him. You can't move him cuz I'm impressive.
Everyone's so impressed. I got one.
That's one, so one on her.
Here. What's this one? Um boy, I'll do this row, I guess. Okay. Uh I'm going to go ahead and do my hunter with his ranged attack, and I'm going to get four die because she he gets one plus three.
every exhausted token I have on my thing. Oh, you could and you have to get a four or more. So, if you get four, four Yeah, this could be the end of the game if you could get roll well. But Oh my god. I rolled well. So, she rolled a three which didn't do it, but then she rolled a five, a six, and a six which gives me
Yeehaw! three more of these She's not so impressive now.
takes her off the board. Now, technically
[clears throat]
Yeah. I could
I think you can She's elusive. She's elusive. SHE'LL BE LIKE, BYE.
ONE TILE at a time. Ooh, shoot. So, you still have things to do, though.
have stuff I can do.
can go. I'm not sure. I'm just going to let them hang out.
Those guys could move in and attack her.
So, would you do that for me? Go ahead and move that in.
[clears throat]
So, this is again against her defense is three. All right. Yeah, this is not looking good.
Uh this guy's not impressive, is he? No.
No. Okay. All right. But, so these guys didn't do anything. They could also Just move one.
Move one.
Just to clog things up.
Maybe. Yeah, just to give her some other stuff to move through and around. So, I've got two guys and I have to get out of
Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I forgot. Three naturally, but she got I gave her a plus one. So, it's a four or higher. Still pretty easy for you to do. I mean, we'll see. But, you didn't do it.
Swing and a miss on those. And that's it, right? Are you going to move these guys at all? No, cuz there's nothing really for them to do. So, it's like I already did that. Those guys can't do anything else. All right. We will finish this I'm pretty sure this is going to finish this round, cuz I don't think I'm going to survive another round. But, we'll come back at the end to let you know how everything shook out. And we're back a lot a lot sooner than we expected. It was literally the very next round. I ran over here. I I think took out one troglodyte there. Uh then she brought in two troglodytes, attacked me with another one that was already here. He moved over here, which let her tough troglodyte move up here, and he took me out. But, in between all that, this guy attacked. What did he hit me for? Two or three?
He was like, pew pew pew. Um yeah, and took me out with his range, because she had already had like three or four uh I think three at the time uh exhausted tiles on her. But, that was uh uh uh kind of close, right? Like, I was actually
You had a dude out.
Before I got this, I didn't think I was even going to see the exit. The fact that I got a dude out and had two people left that I could get out. It's just that you had so many people. Yeah. And if I could have just like like swept through a bunch of them with like one hit or two, it would have helped out. But, and I think bringing him in that late was huge. Used a bunch of different cards, too. Oh, I didn't that's a discard pile. Oh, interesting. So, some of the other cards
tough guy. Yeah, it was pretty good.
Used toxic gas ones.
Never suicide attack, which gives you Oh, gives you plus combat, but your guy dies. That's kind of fun. Uh the tough troglodyte worked out for you. Yeah, especially with the two movement and I was able to move in and like do the killing blow. And that was the second time, right? That he came out. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, anyway, that was scenario one of Gloomhaven 1692. Uh this thing I can tell you, I've played this now three or four times, uh four times, and it's obviously lays out differently every single time you play it. There's this giant stack of tiles, and these tiles, like I said, are used for all the different scenarios, although some of the scenarios will say, "Make sure to take this tile out and this tile out." And in this one, this tile was specifically the tile number 27 that we used for the reverse side that became the exit, and then that center tile was one that was dictated to us.
Uh but the the things that you're doing are very different one. This one was to find a exit. The next couple, they have all sorts of stuff. There are possessed characters where you take heroes uh figures from the box and they're possessed and the human player has to basically get to them and I guess unpossess them or something like that. But, the game has a lot of different variety, and this is just the base box that I think is going to be part of the campaign. They're going to have expansion content. They're going to have a box that has like miniatures for all of the different demon types plus more demons. I think there's even more content like scenario content and whatnot. Uh so be sure to check out the campaign, but if you have any more questions, please put them in the comments below. We'll get down there and answer whatever we can. Until next time, make sure everyone has fun at the table and we'll see you then.
