hey everyone Carlo here from a ycb and today we're doing an overview of the tiny towns expansion called fortune which is the first and only expansion for tiny towns so far it adds a lot of replayability to the game and another added level of strategy to consider with really minimal rules overhead stick around let me tell you more about it so this is a really small expansion there's not a whole lot of new components to come with it but still packs quite a punch basically you get a whole bunch of these new building and monument cards I think there's ten new monuments and two more of each building so that takes it from four of each building up to six so that gives you a lot more replayability right there every player also gets one of these little coin chests where they can hold up to four coins maximum and then yeah the game comes with these coins which is what embodies the whole fortune aspect of this so basically there are different ways throughout the game that you can gain coins either through some of these new building cards or through the monuments and there's another way that you can gain coins is which is when you finish your turn and you build two buildings at the same time on the same turn you'll gain a coin so what are the coins actually for well throughout the game every time another player as the master builder calls a resource and you don't want to take that resource you can spend one of your coins to take a resource of your choice instead so remember your little treasure chest here can only hold four coins at most once it's full you can't acquire any more so

you have this kind of ongoing economy throughout the game where you're trying to decide how many coins you want to have because how many do you want to you know have sort of in reserve to be able to switch in or switch out to take a resource of your choice when the master builder calls something you don't want also any coins that you have left over at the end of the game are worth a point each and as far as the rules go with the expansion that really is it so as you can see one of the best parts about this expansion is that it's so easy to introduce this to new players even if Pleet people haven't played the base game before there was really no reason to leave out including the expansion if you have it it's very little extra rules overhead and in fact it actually makes the game a little more accessible I feel to newer players especially at higher player accounts so let's say you're playing with six players so you know that you know after you take your turn there's going to be five more turns where other people call a resource and you have to take whatever they choose having these you know these coins here that you can kind of change out for other resources makes it so that you're you're going to be stuck a little less often if everyone has a bit of that economy going maybe you know out of those five turns to go around where other people are calling stuff you're only taking those resources a couple times so I really like that and then there's decision the decision of how much do I go into this coin economy how much do I invest in these buildings that give me coins because if you start getting all these combos of you know when you build this you get a coin once you hit your max you're losing that benefit of the card if you're not actually taking advantage of it anymore so you don't want to go too overboard but it's nice to kind of have a couple in reserve to play around with and I

really like the dynamic that that adds to the game but it's not all about just having those endgame points from the coins or using them to get other resources I'm gonna show you a couple of the building cards on a monument card just Eve an example of some of the stuff you can see so for example the mine here is pretty straight forward is just when constructed gained a coin so you can just keep building mines to gain coins there's the jeweler which is quite interesting it's worth 4 points which is a lot for one building but when constructed you must spend a coin if you can't all other players gain a coin at the end of the round so this one's forcing you to have coins when you build this otherwise you're giving coins to other players then there's this monument shrine of the wind seed when constructed you gain a coin for each building of the type you have the most of in your town so there's all kinds of new mechanics in there with these cards that just have this extra little economy but it never feels like it's taking away from the from what makes the base game so great if you have the base game and you don't play it all that often it's not like you're gonna have a terrible experience compared to the expansion if this is just a game you play every once in a while I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary but for me now that I've played it I never really want to go back to the original this just adds such another nice layer of strategy to consider and like I said it makes it even more approachable for new players it just gives you a lot more to think about because in the base game I found like there wasn't a whole lot of incentive to you know kind of push your luck and keep gathering resources and build more than one building and in the same turn whereas now sometimes at the start you're maybe starting to build your monument in something else and you've taken up 3/4 of your board and you took your turn and you're not sure

if it's going to come back around to you again before you can complete a building so you're trying to decide do I push my luck to really go for that coin early on it's a great expansion and I think if you're a big fan of tiny towns you can't go wrong this one's a must-own thanks for watching if you like what we're doing check out our website all you can board comm you've got plenty of other content on our YouTube our other social media platforms thanks for watching
