thank you hey friends it is Jenna what is up and welcome back to the board game garden and welcome to a Kickstarter preview for an expansion to this game right here this is dog park this came out last year in 2022 it was up on Kickstarter and it got fulfilled in late 2022 and this is designed by Lottie and Jack Hazel and published by birdwood games who actually helped sponsor today's video so huge huge thank you to them thank you for supporting the board game garden and allowing me to feature your game um which today we are going to be looking at the new expansion coming to Kickstarter for dog park called New Tricks so as I go throughout this video I am going to give you guys a brief overview of the base game if you've never heard of dog park before I'm gonna go over that and then we're going to get into the many things that the new tricks expansion brings to dog park so if you guys want to hear that to then just keep on watching also check out the kickstarter down below I will have the link to that if you guys are interested and think that dog park and dog park New Tricks is something that you would enjoy um and yeah give this video a big thumbs up if you enjoyed hit that subscribe button if you've yet to do so we'd love to have you here in the garden and also comment down below if this is something that you enjoy obviously I love the theme of dog park because I am a dog mama I do actually have two dogs myself uh we have a penny who is a

seven-year-old Morkie and then Walt is almost a year old and he is a Maltese but we do think that he is mixed maybe slightly with a Schnauzer because he looks a little bit like a Schnauzer um but yes I will put some pictures up of my dogs here but just this theme alone I really enjoy so yeah I'm really excited to show you guys what the nutrix expansion brings to dog park and just dog park in general has been a game that I've been wanting to try genuinely for a long time so without further Ado um let's get into this video and let's go over a little overview of dog parks shall We alright so in dog park the base game I'm just going to give you a quick quick overview um basically players are competing as a dog walkers you want to be the best dog walker and have the best reputation at the end of the game the reputation track is all the way around the outside here and the fun thing is that your reputation is actually your um like bedding amount as well so you're going to be betting on dogs with your victory points which is quite interesting but the game is played in four rounds and each round has four different faces so there is the recruit phase the select phase the walk phase and then the home phase which the home phase is basically just a cleanup and a little bit of admin before you move into the next round so starting with the recruit phase um you guys can see the dogs here at the bottom I'm sure you can't see them like the most amazing but I will have some b-roll over so you guys can see better

for that but anyways you start off with the recruit phase which basically it gives you a bunch of dogs for a four player game you do have the four dogs available but for some lower player counts you do get rid of um some of the dogs as well so you're going to have a certain amount of dogs to bet on um to bring them into your kennel so each player is going to have their own player board here all of the dogs below are going to be in your kennel and then all the dogs that you place onto these three spots on your board are going to be the dogs that you're taking for a walk later in the round so with the recruit phase each player is going to take a look at the dogs available and they are going to take their little dial here which has some numbers on the back and they are going to go and let's say I for example maybe want to get this Morkie card so I'm going to say I really want that Marquee card I'm willing to give up about three three victory points maybe maybe two no I'm gonna go three because I know that the toy breed is a little bit more valuable than a lot of the other breeds so I'm gonna go with three I'm going to privately set that to three and then I would place my worker or my player little meeple onto the Morkie spot and then everyone would reveal after everyone has placed their worker they would reveal what their bet was if there's any players that are on the same dog whatever person bet the

most is the one that gets it if there's a tie whoever is there first gets it and then whatever person does not get a dog is just left with the one left over if that makes sense so yes then everyone would do that again so you're going to be doing that entire recruit phase twice so each round you are going to be obtaining two dogs into your kennel in order to walk and then once those two recruit rounds are over then you move into the select phase so the select phase you are just looking at the dogs that are in your kennel like I mentioned they are below the walk board and you're going to be choosing three dogs that you want to walk for that round and keep in mind you do have to pay the resources to walk those dogs so for example here I have this dog here that needs a chew toy this tug here needs two sticks this one here needs a biscuit and a toy and then this one here needs a stick so I would need to be able to afford those resources in order to put them up here onto my walkboard and then once all players have placed the dogs onto their walking board and paid all the resources for that you move on to the walking phase so the walking phase is this middle section of the board here where there is going to be a park you're going to be walking through this park and you're going to be gathering resources for the next round so you're going to be paying attention to the dogs that are maybe in the next recruitment phase that you possibly want to get into your kennel and you want to grab some

resources that you will need to afford those dogs to place them onto your walking board and you're also looking at the dogs that you have in your kennel that you haven't walked yet all of those things and you are going to be Gathering different resources this is similar to parks where you can go as far as you want forward but you can never move back so you could move one forward grab a biscuit players are allowed to land on the same spot as another player but they do have to pay one Victory point for that so you most the time want to avoid going on to a space with another player but sometimes you have to there are a few different icons here there's like the little badge that gives you a victory point there is a little swap dogs so this means that you can actually swap a dog from your kennel with a dog in the recruitment section at the bottom or I think it is called the field in the game there's also the eyeball little icon there which means I believe that you can look at a few of the cards in the deck and um swap some of them with whatever is in the recruitment section or in the field so there are a few different things you you can do and you pretty much just continue until everyone has finished their walk if you are the first person to finish your walk you get to choose a spot here which this is covered up by something from the expansion but you get to choose which section here you want to place your meeple once you're finished obviously the earlier that you finish in the park the better your reward is if

you are the last person unfortunately you do have to go on the last spot which means that you do get some minus victory points or just minus one Victory Point um but yes that is everything for the walking phase once that is finished everyone moves on to the home phase which like I said is a little bit of a cleanup phase where you are going to be placing a little walked token on each of your dogs so that we're walked and you're going to take them off of your walking board back into the kennel you're going to receive two reputation for each of the dogs that you walked so each of the dogs that you put one of those little walked tokens on you are going to get negative one reputation for any dogs that aren't walked so this one here does not have a walked token on it so I would receive negative one for that because I wasn't able to get that one on a walk and then you just do some cleanup you take or flip over the forecast card which I will mention the forecast cards are just different things that will happen for each of the rounds there's going to be randomly four forecast cards chosen this one here says on round one during home time which is the face that we're going through right now dogs without collars or the walks token do not lose one Victory point so I would actually get lucky in that circumstance and I would not lose a victory point for that and then a few other simple cleanup steps would happen everyone would get their workers back the different bonus things on the park or in the park would be taken off a new location card would be flipped over new bonuses would be put

onto the park and then the bird would move on to the next round you would go through another recruitment phase another select action phase in other Park phase or sorry another walk phase and then another home phase this would continue for four rounds and then once the fourth round is done and each player has eight dogs in their kennel then you move on to final scoring which each player is going to get victory points uh for a bunch of different things obviously you will have a base score based off of where you are on the reputation track and then after that you will score for any dogs that you have in your kennel that have final scoring abilities which I didn't mention this before but each of the dogs do have some sort of special ability whether that's something that happens during the game or a final scoring ability like I mentioned but this one right here is the finished lap hand which is very cute but he is eager which is his special ability and it is during selection which is when you take the dogs from the kennel and put them on the lead when you place this dog on the lead gain one ball so it'll allow you to gain some X extra resources whenever you walk that dog which is nice so you are going to be getting any sort of victory points for any final scoring dogs you would also then get some victory points for the breed expert cards so you guys can see all of the breed expert cards here they are placed randomly each of the games so you're just going to shuffle these breed expert cards place them out and then going from the top to the bottom the topmost dog

breed is going to get the most victory points and then it goes down from there and this is for the person that has the most of that breed so whoever has the most of the hounds would get eight victory points most for the toy would be seven victory points pastoral six working four um gun dog three I almost said groundhog um gun dog 3 Terrier 2 and then utility two so you would add up all of the dogs that you had in each of these breeds and if you had the most out of everyone then you would get that Victory Point score and and then I believe you also do get some victory points for an objective that you choose at the beginning of the game which there are a bunch of different objectives in the base game and then the expansion actually adds some more so there are some experienced objectives there's also some standard objectives and you can choose at the beginning of the game which one you want to go for and I believe that is everything for a quick overview of the base game I apologize if you already knew how to play the base game but I will have a Time stamps and chapters down below without further Ado let me explain all of the new things that the new tricks expansion adds to dog park so there are about five different things or five different modules that the new tricks expansion adds to dog park so we are going to get in to the first one which are multi-breed dog cards so in the new expansion there are going to be dogs that are two different breeds so this one here is a gun dog and a hound

and it is a golden docks all of the cards that come in the nutrix expansion does have a little Rainbow little dog in the corner up here to denote that this card is from the expansion and this one here like I said is a gundog slash hound and this is quite interesting because this actually adds some more strategic decision making when it comes to the breed expert cards so because this dog is a gun dog and a Hound it is going to count for the most of both of those breeds so you're going to have one point in each of those at the end of the game um for when you are calculating your scores for the breed cards or the breed expert cards and I will also add actually that a lot of the multi-breed dogs I believe have some new abilities I don't recall seeing this one in the base game but this one is called greedy and it is when walking this dog whenever you gain any resource you may store it on this dog in exchange for one Victory point during the home phase so or one per movement so if you had this dog and you were walking it if it was on your lead you could actually once per movement place the resource that you've collected on your walk onto this dog this one would be a great one to have during the last round maybe when you already have enough resources and you know that you're not going to need them so you could instead of taking those resources and placing them in front of you you could actually place it on this dog and then during the home phase of that round you could gain many many

victory points so did want to mention that and I believe that is everything for the multi-breed dog cards the next new thing in the nutrix expansion is a smaller thing but a really nice thing to have an in an expansion but that is that there are some new objective cards there are a bunch that come in the base game but there are some new ones for the expansion as well and then additionally there are also new forecast cards which I mentioned are the four cards that are placed here at the beginning of the game and something special will happen each round so this one here is actually one of the new ones and this one here is during home time which is the cleanup phase gain one Victory point or one resource of your choice for each multi-breed dog or just dog from the new expansion um in your kennel or on your lead so any dog um it actually specifically has the little icon for the nutrix expansion so any of the dog cards that you have in your kennel or on your lead that have that little icon in the top left hand corner you would gain either one Victory point or one resource of your choice so yes that is the next thing there's just some new objective cards as well as some new forecast cards next up are the new super locations so in the base game you do have a pile of just location cards there are two different types of location cards there are the rerouted Park location cards this says that it is

recommended for one to three player games and then there's also the plentiful Park location cards and these ones say they are recommended for four player games but in the new expansion there is a new pile of cards here that are the super location cards so these ones are new again there are two different types of super location cards there again is the plentiful Park and the rerouted park again this one is for one to three players plentiful Park is for four players but this one actually has basically it just shows you where to add some bonuses in the park and this one actually has some little letters and these represent these tiles right here these are some different things that you can add onto locations so for this one here we would be adding F which I believe is on the back here we would be adding F to this location here and this one here means that you can exchange two of any resource for one Victory point or you could do that reversed so you could exchange one Victory point for two of any resource and you can do that a Max of three times so you could actually pay six resources of your choice to get three victory points so that is the like super location there and then additionally right here the G would be added there as well and this

one means that you would take the Scout action which is taking two cards from the deck choosing which one you want to replace with one of the dogs in the field and then discarding the other one um you also have the swap action which is swapping a dog from your kennel with one dog from the field and then lastly you would be able to place one of the walked tokens on that dog that you just acquired so that is another one of the super super locations and this I feel like just adds some different abilities that you can use throughout the game instead of just going along these paths and gaining resources you have some more ways to kind of mitigate the game and get certain dogs and just have more depth of strategy so that is the third thing that is the super location cards next up for the new tricks expansion the base game actually only plays one to four players but the new expansion adds a players so it adds a fifth color which is this white color you have the dog meeple you have the trainer meeple you have the Walker over here you also have the Rope dial as well as the lead board for a fifth player to play along in dog park there's also some additional tiles that you would place on the board when playing a five player game in order to have five dogs available during the recruitment phase there is in a little additional board that you place on to the field so that you have five dogs to

choose from there are some additional little tiles to add two more spaces to the walk phase and then there's also this tile here that allows you to have the five players for the end of the walk so it adds another location for when you're finished your walk you can choose between all of those like I mentioned in the overview the earlier that you finish the walk or the quicker that you get through the park the better the reward words are and then if you are the last person you do lose a victory point so it kind of gives you an incentive to not spend a long time or dilly dally uh in the park so moving on to the last thing and I would probably say the biggest thing for the new tricks expansion is exactly that we have the new tricks so there's actually a new extension of the board here that you are going to be adding Trick cards to there is a spot for each of the different breeds and each of the different breeds is going to have a different trick that they can learn and these tricks are going to be different abilities that you're going to be able to do with specific dogs so during the selection phase each player is going to be placing one of their trainer meeples on to one of their dogs and based off of whatever breed that dog is that dog will be able to do some sort of a trick or some sort of ability during a specific phase so you have the blue cards here and the red cards here you do Shuffle these up and place them randomly so sometimes breeds will have

the walk tricks and some of them will have the kennel tricks the blue cards are things that are going to happen with dogs in the kennel and then the red cards are going to be things that will happen with the dogs in the lead or on the lead board so for example I placed my trainer meeple onto this dog here which is a pastoral dog so this is the trick that this dog is now learning or learned so when you swap a dog or use the swap a dog ability you are actually going to be swapping the dog from your lead so instead of doing the swapping the dog from your kennel you can actually swap a dog that you are currently walking the newly acquired dog gains a walked token once per movement ooh that's interesting and basically this is going to cost you some sort of resource so when the meeple is on the dog card it is going to cost you either a stick or a biscuit and once you have finished with this the trainer meeple is going to be taken off and then a trained token is going to be placed on that dog and when you want to do this trick again you're going to have to pay a biscuit for that so with the trainer being on the card you have another option you can either do a stick or a biscuit but once the trainer meeples off and you only have the trained token it is going to just be a biscuit so that is pretty much everything for the new tricks expansion we have the new tricks we have the fifth

player we have the new objective cards and the new forecast cards we have the new super location cards and additionally we have the multi-breed dog cards so that is everything that is being added with this new expansion dog park new tricks like I mentioned I will have the link to the kickstarter down below if this is something that you guys think you are interested in again a huge huge thing you to birdwood games for sponsoring today's video hopefully you guys enjoyed if you did give this video a big thumbs up also hit that subscribe button if you've yet to do so we'd love to have you here in the garden and also comment down below if dog park New Tricks is something that you're looking to pick up um I love you guys so so much remember you are somebody's reason to smile and I will see you guys in the next board game video bye friends
