hi it's tarant and stella from people university today we'll be playing block for one of war rounds and teaching you as we play coming up [Music] [Music] let's play block game designed by erwin boseman carmen chanel frison and kim erik rizzo and published by block games we're using a prototype copy of the game and so the rules and components may not be final and if you find value from this through four block and what we've got here is we've got the little block turntable and we've got all our block pieces now these are obviously prototype components and the actual game doesn't get 3d printed i believe it is wooden yes and so what we're trying to do in this game it's a collaborative game where we're trying to build a perfect cube and here we've got it set up for a four by four cube we have to build it from all of these pieces so these are pieces that range between a single unit cube up to five unit cubes all together and it's every single shape that you can make out of one two three four or five unit cubes that is not longer than three unit cubes in any one direction so it is a cooperative game there's a cooperative game you did not find my mathematics uh interesting you just are interested that it's cooperative yeah that's it no it's very smart though how whoever that calculated that yes and you smart for figuring it out or reading it from the rulebook okay so there are three ways of playing this game we're going to take it in turns to put to put these pieces into the turntable to try to build the perfect cube and there are three ways you can play this game the simplest is that you just go back and forth and you have free choice of what piece you want to take the intermediate version which is what we're going to play is we roll the die and we must take a piece of the color that is shown and the advanced way of playing is there is the block cards deck and you'll draw a card each turn and it will tell you exactly which piece to place [Music] ultimately once we once we rest once we're happy with the cube we've built we will score points based on how perfect the cube is so every unit cube that's missing or every unit cube that's outside the four by four by four cube costs us one point and that's really what it is it's a it's a collaborative effort to build this little cube it's very interesting to do that like you can pretty much play anyway stable i mean you know not in a rocky mountain well as long as you can find a stable flat surface anyways let's do it here let's do it we can do it shall i go first yes sure so i'm starting with a pink piece and i want to start with some bigger one bigger one bigger one of course something a little bit tricky to replace i like to go up on multiple levels as well because there's only so many flat pieces and if you just try to build layer by layer you're going to end up drawing non-flat pieces so i like to i like to go up and around i was like looking at this one this is the other one that i'm aiming for but can be next time my turn now yes orange all right um what's the big one this is the this one's big this one's got five this t piece has five two pieces we've got a few with four would be like right here yeah maybe yeah i'll just leave it like that okay very good okay think again now it's your turn oh no it's already blocked never mind all right what can i do here oh no you can still put it here look if you want to put that there i can put it in here oh yeah still wet i think i might do that that leaves us with a uh a t shape a tetris t down here and there's a lot of pieces that are based on a tetris t that we can slot in there and start to build our way up all right good point all right purple purple now one thing to note with purple there is this one uh square piece here which is both purple and blue so you have that choice okay so cheese no tetris tease no foreplay made out of purple though no like i'm not gonna use that that's probably for later this one this one's might be not bad because i can place it like the good thing is you can just you know pick it up and open like this can i try it i can try it first right before try before you buy yes oh sorry it was actually meant to be like this oh no it's out of the thing yes i can't do that one of those sneaky chiral pieces oh no all right so that's three which i can't do that so what are the other ones so this one's we've got the uh this one's based on a tetris zed um i'm sure i can make one of these work like this oh no that means like one if i put it here then one at the bottom is definitely minus point for us because we can't get there well we can still lift it up and put this uh unit cube in there that's actually if we roll orange how far away we can do that though as long as we're capable of picking it up without um dropping everything okay i think without dexterity let's see i think i'm going to get something easy like that one okay i mean it's still big it fits pretty well it gets us a good piece up there and we've got one unit cube which something like this can slide into yeah we'll see we'll see like that that's right we've got a few options here yeah this one oh that's perfect ones not but there's one this one can go three levels up oh it's a bit risque no i i want to get more levels going because i don't want to get stuck with only flat oh you reckon options but if you are a little bit uh you want it to be um symmetric you'd be like oh no i have to fix it yeah you've got to sort of give up that symmetrical uh nature in order to have something that will work at the end um pink parrot pink look we got this pink should probably like i can even put the pink you can i can do this it's going to slide in there very nicely yes okay that's it okay like so far is a perfect cube but we'll see it's always towards the end where it gets tricky correct so all right purple i could drop this mixed piece in here you don't like it when i make it nonsense i'm not but that's okay i assure you we've got some well it gives us a little we've got to be careful about this uh spot here something quite specific has to fit in there but there's a few options like this will fit in there okay there we go with it all right okay so next one is blue i think i want to try to fix it but i have a tendency because i see something like i think we do well playing this game with each other oh no look look it's good no yeah no we need to roll this pink that pink will fit in there oh yes oh yeah you roll pink roll pink pull this orange almost but not purple purple okay all righty so this one i can no i can't make that one work yeah it's got to be based on a t it's raining pretty hot by the way out there i can hear it let's see if i do that then we have to put the unit cube in this corner so we would need to roll an orange for that to work this one oh no that's getting a little bit too it's a little bit too crazy a little bit uncomfortable for me yes all right and then we'll look at this piece get one more high so that's the most height yeah it looks pretty good no this gives you the same issue under there you can still put something in there right maybe oh this actually this works better oh yeah there we go oh yeah there you go well done all right here you go next one is purple again we're not getting these uh i don't think we have a single yellow or green piece in the cube yet so one two three four one two three we can afford to well we can we can go one more up and i don't think there's a way we can place that one no and this is where it's nice to have some extra depth to play into how about this this is the only way i can not give us penalty because that's a good point there's other purple pieces yeah like these two the other two don't know that one no that one you can slot the uh this piece oh yeah let's see no maybe it here we have to go into that one yeah it's gonna make it it's gonna make it difficult either way yeah [Music] we would once again be uh in a position where we need this unit cube to fill a gap that's not a terrible place to be yeah i mean it's like just minus one right for it hang on what was the plan this one isn't it do you have any other any better ideas oh i can do it here i think i like i think i like that one yeah yeah so we know we've got one cube so somebody needs to roll hopefully orange you can roll an orange we can drop that into this spot in here yep okay then well that's it come on get that orange no green oh it's not bad this one is not that green green we haven't actually played a lot with this one this is probably the spot to go here oh yeah so now what we need is a unit cube there we need another green to finish this one off and then we just need some shapes to get uh that's what we wish that's what perfect now pink what was the pink pink is not exactly perfect this one that won't go in perfectly but it'll leak over the top for that that would need a second unit cube to finish there's only one i feel like popping this one in here and sacrificing a point yeah let's see that that might be where we're at and this of course is how the end of the game goes once you get to it's already poking out once you get to this position um this is where it's going to get hard and it relies on the die roll and essentially we now need where's the three shape l do we still have a three piece l or have we played that already i think it's probably gone the big big one i know it's this one here this yellow right yeah so we just need to roll yellow orange green in a row and we'll only lose one point it will be perfect uh except that you that is less than perfect so i'm going to pop the pink here yeah you're going to have to because that um because we can still get yellow orange and orange orange all right turn it into a 98 orange okay now where's that unit cube that we need to put in it's under here no so we are allowed to pick these up in here yeah as long as we don't collapse it putting it back and as long as we put them back in the same places that we're in okay oh okay that's it okay okay uh yoga just don't knock over the thing as well the tower okay so right now we have a score of we've got two that are off so that's minus two yep yep and what we want to do it's better for us to roll right now it's more likely that we're going to fill these in and not suffer more than uh two penalty offers we can we can choose to stop yeah yeah there we go we've got another orange we can pop this one in here and that's it yeah that's that's just i think we'll finish there yep wow so there we have it that is our cube we have so scoring in this game you start with 100 points and you lose one point for each imperfection we got everything inside the cube perfect because we filled all of our holes we've got three units outside the cube so that's a score of 97.

is that a good thing well let's have a look so the rule book in block as i uh bring it up this has a challenge style this is a um an objective style of game so free block was picking your own blocks we were playing dice block here we played on a 4x4 stencil and we scored 90 points or more that's good that's an easy objective and we scored 96 or more we got 97 so we have completed these objectives and this is called 96 points okay yeah yes so this game comes with a sheet of stickers of course always makes you feel good to get a well done sticker as long as i get to plate it no no you can so we would stick this off and it would start to unlock some extras for us so the game comes with this one is uh not sure how secretive it is here this is a special gold mystery block so it's an irregularly shaped block that you start the game with and there's a few of those of increasing difficulties in the game and that is that is fundamentally the game it's all about hedging your bets on what is the best way to build this cube up leaving enough space for enough different options to go in especially in the card block where you're you're not going to have a lot of flexibility on what goes in so you just need to be careful and hedge your bets as you build the build the cube up and that means you can pretty much play whatever number of players really but yes of course this is recommended yes the game is recommended for uh one to four players you could play with more but you wouldn't have that many turns each so wonderful works well uh you can also compete side by side one after the other trying to make the best cube we showed you there were those three different ways of playing there is also [Music] uh the full mode here is a five by five by five cube so we didn't use you know we used only about half the pieces here on 4x4 but with five by five even more cube to build up so that's block that is block and that's the one run playthrough of block we hope that you enjoy the video check out block on kickstarter we'll put a link in the description below when it's live so you can check it out and if you enjoy this video please help us by hitting that like button subscribe to us you can also hit the meepo in the corner somewhere to do so and hit the bell icon so you'll be one of the faster now when we have new and exciting videos you can also follow me on instagram for my board games journey and if you have any questions comments or feedback please leave them in the comment section below see you next time
