G.I. Joe Operation Cobra l Unboxing
Transcript
Yo, Joe. That's right. Greeting. I'm Baron. Welcome to Meet Me at the Table. We are going to dive into G.I. Joe, Real American Hero. This is our '80s throw throwback here.
I used to watch a lot of G.I. Joe growing up, and now I get to relive that in a board game. What I have here is I do have the private pledge. I did actually not go all in on this one or even do the sergeant pledge. I just did the private pledge because I think that'll give me enough material for this game to really enjoy it, but I could be wrong and maybe I'll have to dig some other stuff up as we go through the game and figure out how much more I need to get because this game looks pretty cool. All right. So, what I'm going to do is unboxing this. I'm going to show off the main game and the stretch goals box, show you everything that's in there, and kind of give you a little idea of how this game is played. Full disclosure, this is my pledge. I did actually pledge for this game. I after I saw it, I couldn't stop because of course the IP is so near and dear to my heart. So, let's dig into this, see what's inside G.I. Joe Operation Cobra. And if you're excited to do that, then I need you to meet me at the table.
Let's start by opening up the core box and see what we can find inside. We do have the rulebook. The rulebook is a It's a hefty little beast here. It runs about Well, let's not going to run about. It is going to be 50 pages long. So, there is You're going to be a little bit of a read for me to get through to see what we have found to figure out how to play. Uh but we will give it a shot. For those of you that don't know anything about this game, this is a one to four player game where you're going to be taking on the role of Joes, and you're going to be infiltrating or completing missions, I should say, inside of this mission book. With And you're as you go through, you can either play as a campaign, or you you play these all as one-off missions. Completing the missions are going to give you specific points that then you can add more things to your Joes as you go through the game. All right. So, we do have our campaign guide, and the campaign guide is another about 32-33 pages. It looks like there are 12 missions in the core game, and it does show an introduction on how to set up your campaign and how to choose your team, and of course, how many points you're going to be able to spend on upgrades for the Joes as you go through it. Or if you decide to play as one-off missions going through it. And here, of course, I'm not sure if I'm pointing too much because this is the first mission that I'll be playing and showing you exactly how it goes. You're going to setting up your map according to what you see here, and you're going to placing down enemies, and there are enemies for three- and four-player games. You can play with two or should say three or four Joes. You could play four-handed if you wish to, but you also could play as minimum of two if you're interested. All right. Let's see. I think that's about it for the campaign guide. We're going to dig into the rest
of this. There are some punch boards for the game. The first set is mostly going to be punch outs for the actual board construction as you go through it. Each of these do have different terrain type elements. Some are going to be hindering terrain, which is going to be hard to move through, but doesn't block line of sight, but maybe gives you a bonus. Some of these are actually going to block fully block line of sight. Some of these are not allow you to run through them, but it does block but it Sorry, it prevents you from moving through, but still allows you to shoot through. So, there are different types of elements, and some of them are going to be a submerged elements as well, which going to be like water and things like that. So, that's all the different kind of colors you're seeing on these maps. And of course, there are also going to be black lines, which are going to represent the Of course, doesn't have one, but black lines are going to represent walls that you have there. And of course, we'll be putting doors in some of these that then would give us access to the two different areas. So, here's some of the punch boards. Looks like both outdoors and indoor areas.
Let's continue on. We have a in another punch board that shows us our some of the places we'll be fighting in. Looks like we have like some nice little buildings here, a fountain area. We have an underground area or up street level parking lot or a street level and I guess you could say where you're going to be fighting. The next one is going to be again more of tiles for the game plus we also have some tokens on this one. These are going to be damage and effort tokens. They are dual sided. So if you need an effort token you'll put this down. If you need damage tokens you'll place those down and of course the the maps themselves are dual sided as well giving you options as to how to set up boards and they'll be set up based on of course that mission book that you saw. Here's another set of tiles for our game that we're going to put off to the side. We're going to continue on with more tiles from the game. There's going to be a lot of different tiles because there's going to be so many different areas we're going to be fighting the Cobra bad guys in. We also have some new tokens on here as well. There's threes and ones of these particular tokens which are going to be perception tokens which are going to probably have to do with our stealth mechanic or being trying to hide.
Continuing on we have again more outside tokens. We have What is this? I don't know what this is. This is amazing. It looks like it's a bunch of fire. Maybe it's something a blast token of some kind. We do have some deception disorientation sorry and inspiration tokens that you see here. These are the disorientation and the inspirations and the side Oh, that's kind of neat little place. We have a helicopter here. That's kind of cool. We're going to get to the helicopter. Get to the chopper. No, wrong game, wrong movie. All right. We also have again some more probably I'm going to guess some blast tokens of some kind because here's a flamethrower token of some kind. We do have a dial. This dial is going to represent the amount of time you have in your mission. Some missions are going to have certain amount of time that you have to go through. Actually I believe every mission does. And of course if you don't make it through this on the time you are going to fail. We have more damage tokens and more tokens on the back side.
Continuing on we still have more places to visit here in the GI Joe headquarters and also the well maybe not the headquarters but No, these are doors. Okay, I see what this is. I go what's the heck is these are doors. You're going to put these down and then you can open these doors and expose more of the map. The map is going to unfold or reveal itself as you play through it but as you saw in the mission book it actually shows the full board that you're going to be playing on. So you technically could set up the whole board and then just put the enemies down as you unload un un I guess un furl the board. This right here, this is going to be a versus token. At certain point in the game it's going to ask you to flip this token and depending on what side it is that either the Joes or the Cobras are going to have the kind of the advantage in what's going on on the battlefield and give their enemy give the enemies or your characters specific extra actions or abilities that you have. Here is a mountain of tokens.
Actually it's not as many as I was expecting. There are some NPCs. We do have hidden tokens down here. Now of course they are dual sided so there's danger tokens on the other side. So we do have there are quite a bit because these are dual sided which helps out a lot. There are bleeding tokens right here. We have stun tokens. We also have more inspiration tokens. These are going to be just generic number type tokens. These are weapons, medical and tool type tokens or valuables that you can pick up in the game. These are going to be activation tokens. So as you activate your Joes or the Cobra agents you can place them next to the miniatures or you can just place them on the cards. I believe the cards for me would probably be a little bit easier. We also have fire tokens. Now flipping them over to the other side we do have smoke tokens. These are supply tokens. On the other side are those different types so you don't know sometimes what you're going to be finding. We have restraint tokens which is the chain here.
These are injured tokens for ourselves and the Cobra agents. We also have some ammo tokens. You may need to reload your gun as you're playing through it. Again, the NPC back that you're not going to know exactly who they are. And these are the mission markers right here. Sometimes they're not going to be the number is important, sometimes it is not. Interestingly enough, this is the timber token. This is Snake Eyes's wolf that you can get. That one is not dual-sided cuz it is only that one thing. All right, we're going to put those to the side. Here is all of the miniatures that come in the core game. We have everything from our Cobra agents right down here, three different types or four I should say or some up here as well, to our actual heroes. We have, for example, I believe this is This is going to be Roadblock is my guess, right here. This is going to be Scarlett right here. She's got a crossbow and a gun. The miniatures are pretty detailed and pretty nice. I think it's going to be fun to paint up. We have Cobra Commander himself right here with his overconfidence, which he even looks like in the miniature. That's pretty awesome.
This is going to be Zartan. All right, here. Zartan. Nope, it's not Zartan. No, it is Zartan? No, this is Zartan. My gosh, it's been a while since I've watched GI Joe. All right. Well, so I apologize if I do not know who all these people are. I should know who all these people are, but it's been a long time. Let's see what we have here. This looks like Snake Eyes. This is Snake Eyes right here. Like I said, he does have Timber's token. I don't have There's it in the miniature form. It might be in the stretch goals box. So, that's just some of the miniatures. I'll put that aside. There is an open huge open area down here that I'm sure you're going to be able to store all those tiles in. Here are going to be all the characters. All right, maybe I could have should have saw this first and I wouldn't look like such an idiot talking about it and not knowing which ones are which.
All right, let's take a look. The Joes that come in the box are going to be Roadblock, like we saw. We also get Scarlett. We also have Snake Eyes, Duke, and that's it. So, there's only four characters that come in the core box you can play as. Now, of course, our stretch goals should have a lot more. There are some enemies. There's Major Blood. That's who that is. Major Blood. Wasn't even close. I was thinking of Destro, but it wasn't Destro. Major Blood, we have Croc Master, we have just a regular Cobra officer, Cobra Trooper, Viper, we have Techno Viper, we've got Doctor Mindbender, and we have Cobra Commander as well as a bat, and that is Zartan. Oh, and so they did I look too too too like meaty out there. All right. And we have Firefly as well. Now, what you're seeing on these cards is a lot of information. The first thing you're going to see is the vitality of the character. The next thing you're going to see is the heroic resolve. That is right here, which is going to be a resource that you can use during the game. This is the type of defense die that they're going to roll. There are two different types. So, this is a lot of different dice, and I'll talk about them. Actually, I'll talk about them right now cuz they are right here.
Here's all the different dice that come in the game. What you're seeing here is multiple attack dice and defense dice. The red, blue, green, and yellow dice, red, blue, green, and yellow dice are going to be attack dice, and they're going to have different pips based on the type of attack you're going to be trying to do. It's going to tell you what dice to roll. So, guns that have a lot of noise and do a lot of damage are going to be rolling more of these red dice, where the yellow dice are going to have more like be more sniper type dice because it's going to have more of these stars on, which may activate different abilities on those weapons or characters. The next thing you're going to see is we do have heavy defense and light defense, obscured and light cover and heavy cover. So, this is the obscured die. We also have a heavy defense right here, so Roadblock does use that one. Here's a light defense, and of course, these are going to have different pips on them that are going to be able to avoid damage in a little bit different way. We also have a defense a sorry, cover dice as well. So, if you have cover, you're going to be rolling either heavy cover or light cover, or of course, you're going to have the obscured vision die completely. So, they're going to be as you're playing through it, setting yourself up and tactically removing yourself around the board is going to determine the type of defense die you're going to be using, and the weapons and the characters' abilities are going to determine the type of attack dice you're going to use.
So, those are the dice that come in the game. We also have our movement characteristic, our aggro, which is going to have to do when it comes is going to be important when it comes to target acquisition for our enemies when they decide who they're going to fight. Some of the things that's going to depending on the AI activation, it may break down to who is aggro is highest. Then we have our muscle, our stealth, and our expertise. These again are going to show different types of dice. So, we have to use muscle, we'll be using two red dice, which are the more powerful dice. Our stealth is going to be blue and yellow, which may not be as good as some people like Snake Eyes, for example. And then we have an expertise dice, which are going to be we're rolling the blue dice if we need to use that particular stat. Now, of course, the other thing we have here is this.
This is kind of cool, this star right here. This is what's called the versus advantage ability. Like I said with that token earlier, when you flip it, if the Joes have the advantage, then you're going to be able to use this particular ability during that turn until they have to flip the token again and figure out what your who gets the advantage again. Down here are the abilities for this particular character, and they all have different things. Now, of course, like I said, the muscle, stealth, and expertise are up here. The muscle represents the physical power. The stealth, of course, represents how they're able to move in stealth or get into stealth and hide from enemies. And the expertise represents the specialized skills and proficiencies for specific [snorts] areas that this character has. Um there is on the back a wounded side, which now if you notice, he's lost a lot of his abilities, but most of the stuff kind of remains the same, uh except he does have a little bit less health. So, if as you're taking damage and you fall below your number, you could get wounded and move to this side. So, like I said, you got Roadblock. You have Scarlett, who like I said is a little bit different.
Notice there's completely different dice over here for her because she's going to play in a completely different way compared to Roadblock. Then we have Snake Eyes, and we have Duke as well. So, again, all of them being a little bit different. I've noticed that for some reason Duke doesn't even have a defense die. Oof, that sounds pretty brutal. Our enemies are going to be following the same type of concept where you've got health. This right here though is not They don't have a They don't have the move stat. They've got something a little bit different here. They've got a move No, that's the movement symbol. It just looks a little bit Oh, it does there. It's got the arrows in there. It's the movement symbol. Defense, he also has his aggro value as well. And then he's also got a perception, I believe is what that is, which is going to probably have to do with trying to find people in cover and stuff. Is what that's going to be. All right.
Let's see here. Then of course, if they have the advantage, they'll be using that ability. He'll have the special ability then, and he's got some extra abilities here. Croc Master is the same. He's actually got a crocodile that he can activate. Cobra Officer, Cobra Trooper. These are your base troopers. They start at three health, two movement, 19 aggro, one per. They have during the round all Cobra Troopers have plus two movement, so that if they have the advantage, they can move a little bit faster. And they have a few extra abilities here. There isn't a wounded side for these. Once they're done, they're done. And I think it's the same for Yes, same for even the heavy the the major characters in this. Once you knock them down, they are done. All right, I think that's a little bit for the characters and the enemies to give you a shot of what those are all about. There are some standees for the doors for this game. There aren't a ton of cards, so I'm just going to go through the cards that I have. I don't think there's anything that I can't spoil in these cards. The Joes are not going to go in undefended. The first thing we have is going to be our skill cards and weapon cards for the Joes. Each characters are going to have specific ones for them, and they're going to have certain ones available to them at the start of the mission. And depending on what mission you play, if you're going through the campaign, you'll be able to buy new abilities or weapons. Or if you're playing just one-off scenarios, it'll tell you how many points to spend on these particular things. For example, we have This is These are Snake Eyes's right here. We have Morning Light katana. This is going to show you its range. For example, this is melee where if you look further here, we've got a compact submachine gun that has a range of two. This is the max amount of five that we can get for five and the max amount of stars we can get is four on that particular weapon. This is six and
four. These shows you the type of dice you're going to be rolling green and blue, red and blue. And then these are going to trigger specific things based on the amount of star values you get that you can choose to use. So if I got two stars, I could make the enemy have bleed which would be a damage over time particular kind of concept. Uh this one does uh not have Oh, they also have some special There you go. For example, here's some passive powers. This one does have silent. Um as you can see, he starts with these three from what I understand. I could be wrong about that. I haven't played the game yet, but I believe you start with the three and then you can buy the other ones. For example, it's a T1, T2, and T3 uh type uh enhancements for them or even more abilities that you're going to be able to gain. For example, he can get his dog Timber. He also get a better or maybe not necessarily better, but a silent weapon which would be an operation pistol. And he also gains in some more power based on his ninja commando exo-suit which is going to have him the ability to reroll any diet defense dice during the Cobra activation turn. He also gets plus one vitality in both health and wound states. So he's going to be able to gain extra health. And all of our characters do have these usually three starting ones and then a couple tier different ones. We have Duke. He's got shoulder fire missile launcher. That sounds out of control. That's that's a amazing. All right. And he's got a pulverizer submachine gun. Oh, this guy looks just jacked today.
I think I'm going to go into battle with Duke. Missile launcher. I'm definitely not going to be silent running around with a missile launcher, but that sounds pretty awesome. He does have his leadership because he is the leader of the group. Uh he does have eagle eye scope. And then of course we have more stuff for him here. He's got lots of different things he can get. We have Roadblock which has a large mach- machete where I'm sure he's got some giant machine gun here, dual shot grenade launcher, and a lightweight field machine gun. Yes, ooh, so good. All right, that's I might play that guy, too. He's pretty awesome. All right, let's see. He's got some tier two and three items that he can buy. And then we have some just generic ones that aren't built for any characters that I believe you have access to if you're interested in taking these. There are different tier levels for some of these, as well, tier one, tier twos, and some Well, there's even tier fives and sixes going up into these. Like, here's a T5 eagle eye marksmanship, plus one and plus two.
That's pretty good. Okay. So, these [snorts] are some of the things that our G.I. Joes can get. As we play through the game, we can either buy them going in between missions, or of course, we can we do have some we're probably just going to start with. Now, the Cobra characters, of course, also have the same thing. There's a whole deck of cards, and as you're setting up the mission, it'll tell you what exactly each of the enemy and are equipped with. So, for example, say we have these guys out on the board, it'll say, "Pull out the submachine gun cards." Then you get the Cobra or Uzi card, let's say. So, they're all going to be equipped with this Cobra Uzi, and it'll have the stats for those particular guns here, and the amount of damage and things it can do. There are a whole ton of different things like plasma pistols, Cobra officer dual submachine guns, electro prods, we have score I can't pronounce that. Expe- Exper- experimental laser sight, barely can pronounce that. That's fantastic. Power hammer. So, lots of different things and lots of different ways these characters are going to interact with you. So, they take the just generic character and make them more unique as you play through the game, which is kind of cool. I like that. The last thing we have is the enemy activation cards. Those are really all the cards that are in this game, and they're going to be showing you what exactly they're going to be used for.
For example, here's the Cobra Trooper. And when you go to activate the Cobra Trooper, you're going to follow this step-by-step thing. And once you get through all this, if none of them are able to pinpoint a person to activate, they're going to go after the person's aggro value. For example, like I said, Roadblock is an 18, where Snake Eyes is a 10. So, it go after Roadblock, so it's a higher value from what I understand. And there's a whole ton of these these Cobra Troopers have a well, how many of them do they have? There's a lot of them. There we go. These are all the Cobra Trooper cards right here. And then of course, we have Vipers. We've got Techno Vipers all the way down to the enemies here that are actual people like Cobra Commander. We've got the I mean Dr. Mindbender, Major Blood's in here somewhere, Croc Master. So, all of them are going to have their own specific deck that you're going to be drawing from to activate those particular enemies. Now, that's I believe everything in the core box. I don't think there's anything else. No, there is nothing else. So, we're going to move on to the stretch goals box. Let's see what's in here. I'm sure it's just some more missions and characters. Let's see what we got. Yep, missions and extras.
So, we do have some more missions. It goes through a whole another set of missions here. It looks like we have what? Upgrade underground menace three of missions just right in there. Looks like wow, lots of them. Okay, looks like we have a ton more missions in here. All right, that's fantastic. These are This thing is all a mission books, right? Yep, that's just all mission book. Okay, then we've got some more characters as well. I believe we have enemies and heroes that we can play as, which is we super cool. Gives you a lot more diversity of who you can play as. And of course, we have cards for them. In the stretch goals box, we do have Bazooka. We have Cover Girl. We have Spirit, Stalker, Falcon, Retro Snake Eyes. I wonder if it's It looks like a completely different type of character. Interesting. I don't think it's the same values that the other one had. I don't even know if it's the same things. I didn't look at his card specifically to find out if it's going to be different. We have Rick, look at the face on that guy.
That's pretty awesome. Oh, that's hilarious. It's blue across the board, cuz he is he's he's naval guy. So, he's a sailor. So, he's got blue across the board. I don't know if they did that on purpose or not, if that's just like a joke for them, but that's pretty awesome. All right, we have Flint, Law and Order continuing with Road Pig. These are the bad guys. Road Pig, Zarana, which is Zartan's sister, and we have Big Boa. Those are the enemies in this box. So, we do have some of the miniatures. So, it does look Oh, here we go. So, it does look like we do have a This is going to be I wouldn't I think this is the wolf that Snake Eyes has, or it could be this one, or it could be both, depending on if the wolf is kitted out with something or not. I could be wrong about that. I'd have to look. This is the Croc for the enemy we had in the core box. So, it does have its miniature here. Here's Bazooka, with of course, you guessed it, a bazooka. Look at this thing. This guy is carrying this bazooka. Look at this. Oh my gosh, I think I'm going to play that guy. Oh, actually, what I need to have you do is have everybody in the comments section tell me who you would like to see me play as in this, and I will get that video up and running very, very soon, as soon as I read through the rules. I would like to get this game to the table and see how it goes. We have some other people. I believe this is Flint. I could be wrong. He's got looks like he's a shotgun. We're going to see how this goes. Here's the retro Snake Eyes right here. There's the miniature for that and that character. We have some of the enemies. This looks like one of the enemies right here. He's got a giant sledgehammer built out of a Oh my gosh, out of an actual cinder block. That's That's out of control. Where's some of the other Oh, here's the other enemy
right here. We have one right here. This is the other enemies, and then we have here Zarana. Where is Zarana? I can't really tell which one's Zarana. Here it is. Here's Zarana, I bet. That's why that looks actually looks like Cobra Commander.
[snorts]
Is this Zarana? This could be Zarana, or it could be No, I think this is Zarana right here. Here's Zarana right there, because Cover Girl, I bet, is right here. This I'll bet is Cover Girl. This is going to be Cover Girl right there. So, that's our characters in the stretch goals box. Here are the small cards that go along with it. We do have the activation decks for all of our different enemies that we just saw. We also have the weapons and equipment for those particular enemies that we saw, as well. We have the special buzzsaw rifle. We have a silent mg cinder block hammer, which is out of control. Wrist rocket, we got big Boris iron fist and throw anything. He can just throw anything. That's pretty awesome. And he has Fiona as well. All right, those are their things. Now, of course, our characters are going to have equipment in here and they have all their own specific weapons as well. For example, we've got the portable rocket launcher short launcher.
It's short. It only shoots three spaces. Really? Rocket launcher shoots three spaces. Oh, here's the bazooka. There we go. That thing shoots four. Oh my gosh, that's out of control. Compact mortar system. He just blows things up. Inferno rounds and then here's his T3 things that he can get. Light dual pistols. This is for Covergirl. She can get pistols and heavy shock tasers, things of that nature. Tactical combat knife for Falcon. And green beret sidearm 9 mm sidearm. Uh tear gas. He can also get blood He also get a melting point burst shotgun at some point as he goes through this. We got double comma comma. This must be a Snake Eyes stuff, I'll bet. Yep. Just Just Just this katana sword. That's an awesome name for us. We have a fishing hook. Oh, this is Shipwreck stuff. What is Shipwreck stuff? He has a sailing saber and a seafarer's double barrel pistol that he can join. It shows a point blank point blank range. His range is zero. Point blank. Wow. This guy's got to get right up and personal. Fishing hook and he's got a laser guided harpoon. So, he doesn't have Once he gets up there, T2 he's got some. First mate's orders. I know he has a parrot. Maybe this is the parrot that the that you can get in In the show, I think he had a parrot. So, that's just more characters, more awesomeness, more unique weapons and stuff they can get. Of course, there are some extra equipment that you may be able to find around that you can get a hold of for the game. And that's that's everything in the Stretch Goals box. Nice and sweet. Now, of Of if you did get more of the game, they would have more mission
packs, more enemies, more characters, but I think there is a ample supply here. Uh the only one I'm missing that I'd like to have is Destro, and I would also like to have uh Zam uh Tomax and Xamot. Those Tomax and Xamot was my favorite enemies in in the show, but sadly it didn't come in the core Stretch Goals box. There was an actual special uh edition you had to pick up in order to get that one. So, there you have it. That is Operation Cobra G.I. Joe the Board Game Unboxing. I hope you enjoyed it. If you did, don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit that bell symbol so you know when content comes out for this game. This is going to be a priority. I'm going to dive right into this game and start learning how to play and get the first mission up and running. Of course, like I said earlier, I'll need you guys to tell me who you would like to see played in this game. And if you want to have even more say in what happens on Meet Me at the Table, you can join the Patreon. The link to that is in the description of the video. Those that are part of the Patreon are shown here on the screen. Thank you so much for your patronage. It means the world to me. The perks that our Patreon supporters get is they do get to watch Colin and my play-throughs usually a day or two ahead of time without commercial interruptions, and they do get to affect the games we play by helping me decide how to level up some of the characters in our games that have campaigns. Also, we give them the ability to choose the characters we're going to play with. So, for example, I'd love to hear what everybody thinks we should play with in the comment section, then I'll have our Patreon supporters vote on those people to see what characters are going to be in the game. So, there you have it. G.I.
Joe Operation Cobra has been unboxed. It is time to take on Cobra over land, sea, and air. G.I. Joe. And if you're excited to do that or see it or do anything else, let's do G.I. Joe because G.I. Joe is just awesome. Then, I need you to meet me at the table.
It's our master plan to fill me up with all your energy. It's our master plan set me up against your enemies.
