In Curiosity Killed the Cat, you are trying to earn souls. Be the last cat standing each round by maintaining your health, or the last cat that plays a ritual card to gain those souls.

And beware of friends who are absolutely allowed to lie to you.

You need five souls to win with two players, four with three players, or three with four players. Everyone starts the round with nine lives, which seems like plenty, but it won't be. On your turn, draw a card and secretly look at it. Then, offer it face down to another player. You must tell them whether you claim it to be a life, death, cat fight, cat burglar, or ritual card, but you do not have to tell the truth. Life card.

You're lying.

I haven't even looked at it.

I know your face.

The receiving player now chooses whether to accept or reject. If they accept, they reveal the card and resolve its effect. If they reject, they immediately lose one life. But now, that player can secretly look at the card and pass it on to another player with whatever story they'd like to tell. As such, one card can travel around the table until somebody finally accepts it. If everyone rejects it, it goes all the way back to the player who originally drew it.

Ah, pretend deceiver.

With potential consequences. Life cards can restore lives, while death cards can remove them. Other cards introduce effects like stealing life tokens, contributing to rituals, or starting cat fights. These fights use a hand of bop, scratch, and pounce cards in a rock, paper, scissors style battle. Each player removes one first from their hand of six, and then you reveal cards simultaneously over three more clashes. Losing a clash will cost you three lives. There are also three shared rituals: sacrifice, immortality, and fate. Ritual cards, when played, resolve for an immediate effect and then go on their altars. Whoever places the final required card completes that ritual,

gains its special reward, and its soul.

Once only one player still has at least one life, they become the last cat standing.

They gain a round soul, and everyone prepares for another round. Any life tokens that were stolen or sacrificed stay gone, though, so your nine lives can slowly become considerably fewer. Keep playing until someone reaches the required number of souls.

So, the lesson is curiosity is dangerous.

Correct.

But, I still want to see that card.

Well, if you're curious, then check out Curiosity Killed the Cat on crowdfunding.
