Parks Review by Board Game Hangover
you wanna go for a stroll in a park well go outside no don't be silly i meant this park this is the review for the board game park the good and bad about it by the end of this video you will know if you want to take stroll through this game we have six burning questions that we will answer about this game but before we do that janice what is this game all about in parks you are playing as two hikers hiking through parks how you win in this game you collect park cards and get victory points whoever at the end of the game gets most weak three points wins the game in parks players take turns moving their hikers through the trail collecting resources and doing special actions so on your turn you choose one of your two hikers that are on the trail and move it forward you can never go back and do the actions that are on there also you can never place them on a space where already a hiker is when you go to a specific place you get resources or special action special actions might be getting a camera and having a photo which gives you extra points or if you reach the end of the trail you also have some special abilities that give you more points and equipment and if your hiker is the last one on the trail you have no option but to go to the end so it gives a bit of strategy at the end who's gonna be the last one there what makes the game unique are the looks and the choices i mean all you have to do is just move your piece forward but where do i move forward maybe i move it to the end maybe i use my fireplace and move where somebody else is maybe exchange resources so many choices just all you have to do is move forward and we're going to talk a lot more about this game in this video so we should jump to the first question which is who would you buy it for somebody who's looking for christmas present christmas present christmas present somebody's looking for a christmas we should start like a jingle one two three couples who don't like chess but like just someone who values aesthetic over everything like over his kids over his job just over everything i just wanted to elaborate what everything means now i get it i read it i didn't get it now i get it yeah cool this game has chess like features meaning figuring out where to go just moving one piece uh has a lot more decision making than you would expect when you go somewhere then you take up that space and then other people can't go there and then if you go there that that means you can go back reminded me of this chest like thinking but it's not that intimidating as chess is because chess is if you lose game of chess you feel like an idiot here it's not that bad at all but i felt like there is this uh component there although it's nothing much as and also for couples because i enjoyed it the most with two because if it four i felt like it's completely different game some might like it more but i feel like more places are taken it's more convoluted and uh also there's a lot more random so if you're a couple that likes this thinking but meditative process then parks could be for you this is a family game right we're gonna agree on that but unlike most funding games there's a lot of forward planning involved if you want to if you don't you just i'll take sons i'll take water i can't buy this park that's how i play yeah if you want to you can plan quite a bit ahead it's one of those games where you know this like the analysis paralysis could be a thing well i come from another side i think this game visually is fantastic literally everything even the inside of the box i love the art on the cards especially parks they have these little wild resource tokens and they're all different animals they didn't have to do that it doesn't change anything but they did it this small box it's just back to the top yeah is also save space and everything so really really good looking game you go forward with these right and uh we want to go forward as well right and we can't go back without you guys yeah so the only way we can go forward with your subscribes guys what is the best thing about this game three two one first thing is replayability these tiles which you move are randomly shuffled the cars are randomly shuffled and there's like four decks of cards and the beginning tasks a shuffle so i feel it's the same game but it's gonna feel different each time you play because of that setup i have written down just move you just move one piece and that's it but there's so much options my favorite thing about board games is the simple rules a lot to like think about yeah like a deep gameplay yeah yeah definitely and this one has it which is awesome uh my next one is did i mention the looks it looks yeah i have it's an art gallery for me next one is the box and uh how much it's smaller than the other games that would usually have the same amount of stuff especially since i have a limited space where i put my games i think everybody has at some point it just takes less space and there's a lot of gameplay in that small box you can play it like meditative and just go there get some resources get some parks it's fine get some points play this very relaxed version family version as well as you can go very deep into the thinking process of okay this will give me that many points there is so much to think about if you really want to that you can really adjust the difficulty of this game at your table what you said previously it's like you can go all chess on this game yeah it's all chess in this game if you want to yes love good inserts and these are really nice inserts they're quickly set up everything's there they look nice and last thing because of that taking away spaces and buying parks away from others you're also interested in what other people are doing and what resources are they getting so you feel like you're playing together which sometimes in these type of games will you know be missed but it's their interaction is there which is nice last thing for me is the table space this feels like a big game there's a lot of stuff but that's all it takes it takes a relatively small area to set up and play what is the worst thing about this game ready three two one boom it is very random at four players huh yeah right i feel like you can't control anything and for a game where you should be able to figure out everything it's kind of weird mix you can figure out where you move what you take away from people and all that while you can't control in any kind of way what parts will be left there what kind of resources you should get it's just a lot of times random it doesn't give you the satisfaction of figuring things out that there's always three parks available no matter how many players play and you might be at the same time collecting the same things that somebody else is and if he just gets there quicker and you might be stuck with those resources for a very long time until a part comes up that you can afford and sometimes somebody will like oh i just got this resource oh look a park came up that i can immediately buy and that leads me to my next point it feels sometimes like you're despairing like sense of desperation like come on i need that one water and you're taking it up and i can't get it and then you took my park away okay at least i'm gonna take that special equipment oh no you took that away ah i feel it's too long especially again with more players there's more down time you play four seasons and you could be completely fine with three and i wrote down plus catching up because yes there might be situations where you feel like all right you won and we still have two or one seasons left teaching this is not as simple as it might seem it's like yeah on your turn you just move your guy if you go here you do that and if you go here you do that and here you can buy these and these are these and then here you can get that and that is that unless it's this but for a family game i wish there were less those small rules but maybe it's not a family game after all my last thing is the price versus the box if you watch the review you know what you're getting into you're gonna be like okay it's worth it it's gonna take less space but if a family walks in they're like how much is this small box for the audience that this might be meant for might miss out on this just because the box is so small totally worth it just a lot of people that will see this box will get afraid that it's not worth it it is how long is the honeymoon three two one in worst case it looks good you might play it a lot especially if you're too and you're into this chest just feel like things but for me i kind of grew tired of it as you said today as well you didn't notice it's not at your place right yeah i didn't but first when you get it it looks visually pleasing it's nice to play there's a lot of strategy in there you know it's good for you you like it but it's just tough to get into it if there are different board games in my shelf then i'm looking at this and thinking yeah i could play this or i could play this more exciting game so i guess excitement is missing for me here if you will find that it fits for you then i think you can get a lot of gameplays out of it this game for example just recently i had a family visiting and they're not gamers and i thought what should we play something quick something good looking and if i've seen this i might have pulled this out and played it but if i had something else next to it for example ticket to ride some other architects i might pull those out instead because this might be a bit too complex and too much work at least it would feel for me like i know i just could teach all those things okay i'll probably leave this when we have time to play just my family what's the best alternative three two one canvas glenn moore canvas is another game we reviewed a while back and first of all visually it was also very very pleasing fantastic yes and the gameplay actually felt uh similar you take one card to your deck so that's all that you do but it also affects other things so you need to take all of that into account very similar so the feeling was very very samey for me so if you're looking for a game that looks good has some decision making then both of these could work it's simpler though yeah canvas is quicker and simpler mine's glenn moore glenn moore is actually a euro game and definitely not a family game but i feel like it's a good alternative if you feel you like this moving ahead never going back thinking and getting something that somebody else might want or can't get in glenmore you basically have these little tiles around the board and the last player always goes so if i'm the last player it's my turn and then i move and i grab a tile and add it to my board and then i generate resource so it's maybe a bit more complex than this but i have the same feeling where like move my guy take stuff move my guy take stuff and that's the thing i do throughout the game same here but this is on the lighter side just the same basic feeling of moving ahead and grabbing stuff final rating three two one very good point five you surprised me but that asterisk probably means something no what does it mean you have to be the right audience for this with two players so with more players i wouldn't say it's fantastic or if you are like four and more players i would play just three seasons some adjustments and it's totally fantastic but otherwise just pure looks alone just the genius to put it all in this box the game mechanism complements it it really feels like you just meditative walk through a park i think it's very very well put together my experience it's a really good game tier if it's more than two players i agree with everything you said i haven't played with two so i have no comments there but i feel it's a very good game 0.5 so it's better than very good but it's a better very good game i like playing it i love the decisions i love how it looks i love everything in the box he's just i don't feel the pull to pull it out feel the pull to pull it out from my shelf so i don't get to play it as much sometimes i feel like it's more a collector's item than a board definitely it definitely looks good on your shelf if you just place it there or the other side that's it for our review for this game i hope you don't know if this game is for you or at least if you would like to try it um and now all that's left to do is like subscribe and see us next time on the next video thank you for watching no we will have to go outside are you ready yes it's cold outside [Music]
