Tend: Hive Solo Playthrough - A Little Bit Of Every Single Equipment

0:00 Hey, I'm Alex Mackle from Board Gameco and today I'm doing my first solo playthrough of Tend Hive or Tend with the Hive expansion. And make no mistake, I have played a lot of Tend. A lot of Tend the base game, a ton of Tellar. At this point, I'm either past or close to past the amount of Tensellar. I've played over 10 base game. I've played eight full sessions of Tenellar. I've played Hive like four or five times. I have not played Hive solo yet. In fact, I haven't even done Tensellar solo yet. I probably should do that at some point, but that's not going to be today. I played regular 10 solo, but I have not played Tend Hive solo. So, we are going to go ahead and play Tend Hive solo. That's what we're doing today. This is not a sponsored playthrough, by the way. There has been a lot of Tend content on the channel. I apologize for it. There's been a lot. There's been a 10 review. There's been three 10 seller game plays.

0:47 Before the campaign even started, I did a 10 solo gameplay. Uh, I have a video that either went up or all or will be going up soon about things I want to see from 10. Five best things, worst things, a whole bunch of five things about Tend. And this is a Tendellar, Tend Hive solo gameplay. The reason there's been so much content on the channel is, well, the 10 seller playthroughs, those were all sponsored. So, those were sponsored. Uh, but everything else isn't because I just am kind of a little bit addicted to Tend right now. So, um, it seems like the right time to put out stuff if you anyways might benefit from it more now. And I just kind of want to play it. And to that end, if you checked out the 10 seller playthrough, there is a seed, a seed you can use in the Tend companion app uh that will help you play the Tendellar playthrough. This is a Tend um Hive playthrough with more goals that I put together. If you want to give it a shot and try Hive, I guess I don't even know if you could try Tend Hive. I guess you can probably download. I don't I don't actually know what's available to you, but if you're watching this in the future, you could try this out.

1:43 Currently, things may have changed, but currently it's board game coordive. So, board game-co-hive uh is the breakdown for the seed. That's kind of the situation if you want to follow along or even just see what it is. And now, I put together these objectives myself and I specifically try to push myself to go out of my comfort zone. Even in Tend Hive, I think that uh tending the the core action of the game, Tend, I think is less powerful overall. So, to that end, uh the first goal I put together is going to be for each unique crop currently growing, gain five points and roll the yellow be dye once, placing the result as per the usual rules. Effectively, the first objective, little comp complicated, but it does incentivize you to grow a variety of crops early on. Second objective is going to want you to fill rows in your hive module. Specifically in the cargo pod over here, for every row you've done in the cargo pod, you'll get 12 points.

2:39 And if you've done at least two rows, you'll get an additional two blue honey. And then our last objective over here is going to be for each category of equipment upgrade you have 10 fish, mine, chop, and apiary, increase your investment multiplier by one. That's going to be investment multiplier down here. You're going to increase it by one. Those are the goals we are going through. Now, I've played my own objectives. This is going to take forever to actually get to the gameplay. I apologize. I'll time stamp down below when the game play starts if that's all you care about. Uh, but in my 10 seller playthrough, which I've done multiple times now. I've played with my seed. I'm actually pretty happy with the goals. I've gone through it a few times. I've debated maybe I could adjust them a little bit to be a little more accessible, but overall I'm pretty happy with them. This is my first time playing through these, so we'll see how I feel about those. But with that, we're going to go ahead and dive in. I will not be giving you a gameplay overview of how Tend Hive works. I'm assuming at this point between all the things you mostly know, but I will be walking through my actions. So, if you're familiar with tend, I think this will be easy enough to follow along. If you are not familiar with tend, this might not be the best place to start. With that said, I'm going to go ahead and start uh by taking a look at the actions I have over here.

3:42 Uh we have chopping, tend, fishing, and then we have uh mining. And I am so loathed to tend early on. Now, timing wise, if I tend too early, I won't even get the goal of of that that ability over there. And what's that ability again? It gives me lets me roll the die, placing the result as per the usual rules. So, it is in my best interest to unlock the apiaries as fast as possible because the apiaries, well, those will give me stuff. So, um, kind of want to think through how to do that. Again, tend is not going to be the thing that helps me, but also early on tending is not the worst either. Gosh darn, I hate this game. I I love Cellar. I love seller. Every time I play a Hive, though, I complain. I complain and I whine. I'm just giving you a heads up. I complain and I whine. But I'm gonna try not to do that as much. Um I love I love the game. I just complain and I I whine every time I play seller because it's that arc of getting back into the swing of things. So, how do I want to approach this? I want to unlock an apiary first.

4:37 Unlocking an apiary is very helpful. Can I do so with any reliability? Not specifically. I don't think uh chopping is the thing that's going to help me. I don't think mining is the thing that's going to help me. Uh, chopping and mining can both get me closer towards getting the second APR. Uh, I could tend. Tend might be the thing that I actually do. Loa asam to admit it. I might do a double tend. We are going to start off with a double tend. So, up here on our sheet, we're going to mark down that we are double tending. Is this the right move? Almost certainly not. Am I doing it anyway? I am indeed. So, I'm going to go ahead and take this first die over here and put it over here. Also, I should probably look at my neighbor gifts because I have not done that yet. So, let's go ahead and take a look at some neighbor gifts and this river fishing card that's mixed in there. And we have the following for our neighbor gift. So that actually kind of works out a little bit for me honestly because that that that is something that is going to be very helpful giving that pineapple over there. But in the meantime, we currently have uh this one over here. We tended this and then we're also going to mark six more fields on the board. So we're going to do is we're going to uh down here wrong side of the the pen over here. We're going to go down here and go one 2 3 four five six.

5:40 Okay. Uh did that get me anything in my apiary? No, it did not. Unfortunately, the two coin did not come out, which I do actually like in a tent hive. That's round one. That That's I probably should have looked at what's coming up. What's coming up over here? We have two chopping levels. That would have been good to look at. And 12 tilled soil. I can do that. I have 12 tilt so 12 tilt soil. Beautiful. I'm so glad that I thought of that. So, if I have 12 tilt tilt soil, uh this does feel like the right thing to start off with. Either a tend or alter, you know, let's do a growth phase like I probably should like a normal human being. Um I could discard this. I think I will discard this for my neighbor card and draw a new one. And we got that, which is not the worst either, honestly. Then we're going to go to the grow phase. We're going to tick up this crop over here. So, this crop's going to become a little two, which means I could have a pineapple. And I am incentivized to sell that pineapple for two coins.

6:27 I'm going to use our little cargo manifest, and I'm going to sell that pineapple for two coins. Pineapple is actually a very nice return on investment early game. And we're going to immediately mark off those uh which means we now can start filling this with uh various B dice. Okay. So, we're going to fill that. Uh that means down over here, looking at the dice over there, we have a one that we can use. That's going to be a one on the uh the board over here. So, we can fill in we need to fill in uh different numbers than this one over here. So, we're going to fill in a one as our first die over there. Uh from there, going back to our board, uh we filled in the one over here. So, we're working our way towards getting our honey. Uh we are going to use this action. I think it just makes sense. And I think it makes sense to go for a tend action at this point. I could go straight to um another another um pineapple. And the tricky part is pineapple wise at this point. Just tracking it through in my head. Uh if I place a pineapple now, it's going to grow in round two. We're in round two.

7:18 It's going to grow in round three, grow in round four, grow in round five. And I think that's where it exhausts. Let me just I need to I need to simulate this. I'm sorry. I need to uh grab a pineapple from here uh and put it down into my car manifest. And we are going to just uh play this out. So in round one is going to be there. round two, round three, and round four. Uh, which means it's going to be gone in round four. I'm tracking this out cuz I want to try to get the different types of um 10 good goodies into my cargo manifest. So, with that in mind, I think it is in my best interest to till we're going to till the tend the field again. We're going to I don't know if this is going to work out for me. I don't know. We're going to try it out. We're going to try it out and see. Also, both of my sheets, this is a terrible thing. I'm only just realizing now, both of my sheets really want me to lean heavily into fishing, which is a mistake. It's a It's a big mistake. But in the meantime, we're going to go ahead and we're going to uh till our fields again. So, right now, if I'm tilling our fields, keeping in mind the current setup over here, I could try to bury things in here, which is not the craziest, but honestly, I may have screwed that up already as far as the way I built out this out. Can I redeem myself? Probably not. Probably not.

8:19 Let's go ahead and put this. Oh my gosh. I think I screwed this up already. It's fine. It's fine. But I'm going to go ahead and go one, two, three, four. And then five and six. I guess five and six could be over here. Working our way up over there, I guess. So, I don't know. I don't love it. I don't love it. That's going to be that. We'll go five and six. Okay. Is this a mistake? Is this a horrible mistake? Probably. So, that was my uh tend action over there. So, that was our tend action for our first action. We could take a secondary tend action, which I think might be what we do. We might just go crazy and go tending, but I could tend into a basic um I think I I think I want to do that. We're going to tend as my second action. We're going to tend into this crop over here. Putting that there, which means we are once again doing a double tend in round two. And um regretting most of the things we've decided to do in life in general, I probably need to get my hands on more stuff. Maybe I'm going heavily for the um purple purple apiary.

9:17 Anyways, that's round two. Bring us on to round three. Uh round three is going to continue. We have to do all the things. The things are going to be we um neighbor phase. Oh my gosh, I got a pineapple and I forgot to give it away. I I sold it instead. I don't even know if that was the right move or the wrong move at this point, but um it is what it is. I'll keep I'll hold on to that pineapple for right now. I'll hold on to it, but whatever. It's too late now. Anyway, so neighbor phase, I'm going to keep my neighbor cards as they are for better or for worse, he says. Mostly thinking for worse. Uh then we're going to go ahead and lean into uh we're going to lean into grow. So, we're going to go ahead and grow over here. We're going to tick those up. Tick that up over there. Uh nothing nothing gained so far, but next round we'll get our stuff. Uh and then we'll gohead into looking at the next uh sheet over here for round three. And we have the following. We got a wild. Choose what we want. I will choose a six, which means we have our very first um uh thing unlocked. So we get our first honey.

10:11 Okay, we're going to get it right now. In fact, that's the way honey works. We're going to get it now and at the beginning of each growth phase. Uh and I guess if we're trying to invest in tending, we probably should go ahead and do this honey over here. So, we're going to cross out that honey here because once we get that whole field, we'll start getting stuff whenever we tend, which feels like what I'm trying to do. So, um let's go ahead and do it if if that's the the pathway I push myself towards. I once again did not look at the upcoming tasks like a freaking idiot. I'm not an idiot. I'm just tired. Anyways, that was the uh growth phase. So, let's go ahead and take a look at the active and upcoming tasks. Our active tasks are magnetic bobber or mining hook unlocked. I will have none of those. And then we have deep well or fossil fossil feed unlocked. I will once again have none of those, but I might get to deep well later. Upcoming goals, we have two mining levels. Good to know. And we have two chopping levels. Two mining levels will give us that. Do I care about that? I don't know if I do, but two chopping levels. I don't know if I care about that either. Let's take a look at the tasks we have. We do have tending. Tending is once again something we are working our way towards. And then we could go mining or fishing. Mining or fishing are both valid things. Let's go.

11:17 Let's go. Let's go. Anyways, uh we're going to go ahead and start with a tend action. I feel that is the uh thing we've been trying to do. So, we're going to grab our tend action in here and then we're going to mark down on our sheet tending. We're going to head over here. I'm going to move this die to the side so I can see what I'm doing. Uh we have 1 2 3. So, we're going to do a one two three four five and six. I guess six. Okay. Also, looking back on the sheet, did I take my extra action? I did not take my 12 tilt soil. I should have that coming to me. So, I'm going to go ahead and deal with that. Uh, a little bit behind, but I got my six over here. Am I doing this correctly? I did six. One, two, three, four, five, six. One, two. Yeah, we done six. Six. S6. Okay, we've done that over there. Nice. So, we haven't actually planted anything new. We're just working our way towards the planting of the big guy. Uh, meanwhile, we can sell that for two soil, which in fact, I think I think two coins. And I think knowing this uh the sheet down over here, it's going to require one, two, three, four, five. Let me just do some math. 1 2 3 4 five is enough that we need Is that all we need? We need six. I guess we need we need five. We need five actions. Five there to get another 10 over there. So maybe we want an energy bar. What do we want to do with those two coins? We have two coins.

12:27 We can do them on something. We could work our way towards a 10 action. That's certainly a possibility. Um I don't know what I want to do with two coins. We could work our way towards that rake, the rake over here on this uh sheet over here because we know we'll be getting that at some point. I think an energy bar is not the craziest. Okay, we're going to go ahead and do an energy bar over there because I think that getting an energy bar early on over here uh might well be the thing we need to go ahead and give us an extra action which will then feed into well whatever we need. So that's action one. Action two is we are going to work our way towards mining levels because we do have this one. Alternatively, do I want to chop? Can I do chopping? I can't do chopping if I want to. So we'll do a mining levels. So if we're doing a mining level action, uh we are going to go ahead and go gather our sheet over here and we're going to uh go mining. Uh we'll do my favorite little edge spot over here. And we got no mining upgrade. Exactly what I wanted. I did not want a mining uh increase. Meaning I didn't want over here on my uh mining chart. I did not want that. Just to be clear, by the way, I definitely did in case anyone was wondering. Uh but now that I have a mining thingy, um I'll go ahead and cash it in for that remaining energy bar chunk. So, we're going to go to my energy bar over here. We're going to sell that for one coin. Was that the right move? No idea. We'll find out later. Uh and then we're going to go to the neighbor phase of the next round where we will leave everything alone.

13:39 Oh, I probably should mark down over here that we did mining. Okay, we did a mining action up there. Uh, we're going to go to the uh neighbor phase. We're going to keep our two cards because we're actually going to get both of them right now. Then we're going to go to the growth phase. We're going to take these guys up. We're going to learn lose both of those crops over here. Um, and we're going to be able to take this and this and we're going to get our neighbor gifts out of them. So, those are gone. Uh, over here on this side, we are going to go ahead and mark off a wood. Probably should have made fences over here in hindsight. Probably should have made fences. Whatever. It's fine. We took our wood and we took our uh thingy over there. So, with that, because we're going 10, we're going to go ahead and mark that off. So, we have this marked off here from the purple bar. Uh we also have a wood and we also have a um thingamajiggy. So, the question is with those two things, that's six fences. Six fences is enough. 1 2 3 4 5 six. It's enough to get a chicken going. But is a chicken even worth it? Just having that recurring income of a thingy of a of an egg is not a bad thing, but I don't know if it's worth it. But the flip side is what am I going to do with it? I guess I could throw them towards um investments because I am working my way there in theory. Maybe, probably. I don't know, man. Cuz the badges, each metal I get is going to be helpful. Or I could sell them for stuff. I don't know what I want to do with these. Uh I have two coins worth of goods.

14:55 But if I do a chicken, it could also be that a chicken could turn into things. I think turning into fences does make sense this early in the game, but I don't know. I don't know. I'm going to turn into fences. Okay. So, what I'm going to do is over here uh on my my my sheet I'm going to go ahead and go one, two, three, and then I could go four, five, or I could go four, five, one, two, and then six. So, one more of those will bring it close and then I'll be able to go ahead and work my way towards having a two egg coupe. Am I doing any sheep? Apparently not. Apparently not. Also, my neighbor face is done. My growth phase is done. We are on to the task base. So I should probably go ahead and tick this forward one. And we have a uh what is that? That's a one it looks like. So a one which means it can't go in here unfortunately. Uh we need the same. That's unfortunate. That's very unfortunate. So I cannot benefit from that die. Uh it is time to go ahead and start tending away. What do we have? We got two mining levels. Am I getting that? Probably not. We got two chopping levels. Am I getting that? Probably not.

15:54 I think we're doing a double tend over here. So with a double tend, we are going to go ahead and preemptively mark on this sheet that we have tend and tend. Okay, that's over there. Um, we probably should have spent some wood over here on this uh trellis. That would actually probably been smart because if I'm trying to get unique good types, that could have given me more. Uh, but also I really need to work my way towards unlocking the apiaries, which is really part of the whole strategy here that I'm not not doing here. I'm just really not doing that. So, I could do a chop in order to get myself No, I'm going to tend. I'm going to tend. We're going to tend over here. So, I'm going to do is I'm going to do a 10 action with an energy bar and then a 10 action with an energy bar. Okay, we're going to get some goods planted. So, I'm crossing up my energy bar to do two double tens. So, with two double tens, we are going to go ahead and mark down over here. Um, one, that's going to be one over there. Uh, then we're going to go ahead and go two, three, four, five. Okay, that's the first 10 action is giving me there. I have one more that I could spend. If I go here, is it better for me? I don't think it is. It gives me a bunch of these vagaries, so to speak. Um, but I might want to try to go ahead and get uh even just one over here is not the worst, I think. So, we're going to go ahead and do one there. Okay. Uh, that was my six 10 spots. Then for my remaining three 10 actions, I'm going to plant a pumpkin over here. Okay, we're going to plant that over there. We're going to plant a basic guy over here.

17:10 And then we're going to plant a pineapple over here. Okay, so we have three different unique goods uh to work my way towards rolling the 10 dye. Uh, I don't even know how I assimilate rolling the 10 dice. I'm realizing now I probably do need an actual 10 dye. Hopefully the honey dice are in here. They're not. Where are my honey dice? Because I'm gonna need these over here. Give me a second because I only just realized the flaw in my plan if I don't have the honey dice. What am I going to do? Where are my honey dice? You're going have to bear with me while I figure this out because I definitely should have honey dice somewhere. Got them. Got them. Got one. Got one, but honestly, one's enough. I don't know where the other one is, but one is all Nope. I got two. I will need these for my unique goal because you cannot run my unique goal in the app. I'm realizing now. Anyways, going back to my turn over here. So, we have this back here. We'll need those dice. And now it's time to take my actions. So, for my actions, looking at the display, we are on round five. Oh my gosh, on round five. This is insane. So, on five, uh, we have the following. We have currently a driftwood net or or or um pond trapped unlocked.

18:15 And then we have pollen enhancer or apiary unlock. Pollen or enhanced apiary. That's the thing I'm looking for. Uh, then over here we have nine tiles covered with fishing goods. And we have five chopping levels. I got none of that stuff happening. But I do have 12 tilled soil and I do not have two chopping levels. I got something other than 10 man. This is not this is not good for me. Anyways, my last turn I did that. I'm on the next round. So I should have drawn neighbor cards. So I'm going to be able to select two over here. So I'm going to take a look over here. I think it makes sense to do this one over here. That's going to be able to pop off nicely. We'll discard that. And then on the other side we'll go ahead and we have I guess I'll keep this one because that makes sense as well. Okay. So we got our neighbor gifts. Then we're going to have our growth phase. we can immediately fulfill this neighbor gift, which I think makes sense to do. So, we're going to fulfill that, which is going to allow us to uh down over here on our sheet. We're going to get that little license, which is going to go towards uh this bad boy over here. So, I can start doing even cooler, larger 10 actions. If only my sheets were good at 10 goods. That is our growth phase. We got our pineapple that triggered nicely.

19:15 We have our upcoming um flower crop. Uh and now we get to go ahead and take some actions. I think it is in our best interest to go ahead and take this one because of 12 till soil. But I really got to get more money towards I got to get a lot of everything honestly. I got to get some stuff. So I think do I want to go mining because I could right now growth age when the growth I think the scoring is going to happen. So I kind of want to leave the goods on the board. I don't want to tick them up necessarily. If I do more tending it's one thing but I think now might be the time to lean in towards other actions. So I think we will go ahead and mine. So we're going to go ahead and mine down here. Uh we'll take a look. We'll go down to this sheet because it's almost certainly going to be an upgrade. It is. It is another rock unfortunately, but it is an upgrade. So, with that, what we can do is we could go over here and mark down one, two, three.

20:01 Okay, we got that. And then the coin we get from mining is going to go here. And then we're going to mark off a little chicken spot. So, we are working our way towards our first chicken. And that was our first uh mining action. There we go. We are also going to go ahead and get ourselves a little asteroid that I think we'll turn around and sell for another chicken. So, we're already getting our chicken. We need a little chicken dye. So, I'm going to grab a little chicken dye and put it into our little place and start picking up those chicken dice next turn. So, that'll be great. We have our chicken farm working towards us. For action two, I want to take a look over here because none of the things are going to give me stuff. I don't believe so. This one is pollen or enhanced apiary. I guess I do want to go mining again. So, I think with that in mind, I think I will go mining again. In fact, I'm specifically going to go one further down. Let's go ahead and go one further down in here. Um, it does not unfortunately give me a coin, which I was really hoping for. I was really hoping for a coin. Instead, it gave me one of these guys, which I can go ahead and use towards my uh upgraded tend action, which is totally going to come into play in the second half of the game. I guess we're going to go ahead and mine. And that's that. I don't think this worked the way I wanted to. Oh, also, uh, because I totally forgot to do this, we also go ahead and get a die of our choice. So, again, this whole thing did not work. I I think this is a time that my goal strat did not work for me as the way I intended it to magically in my head. But we do neighbor gifts first.

21:22 Is that going to be worthwhile? Because I'm going to get a tree trunk, but I would still need a because I'm looking at this next hive over here. This next hive over here, I need a tree trunk, two coins, and then that I might have been able to work my way towards that. That could have been useful. Uh, as it stands, oh, and I also, if I unlock the hive, I have not been doing this. I'm such an idiot. I've not been doing I'm not used to the honey. So, if I unlock the honey in round uh two over here, then at the beginning of round three, it'll be a honey. Everything round four honey and beginning round five honey. So, I should have 1 2 three cuz I got a honey in round two, three, four, and five. So, I now one step closer to a rake basically. Uh and I do have well I don't need the money cuz I'm not doing a 10 action right now anyway, although I will be next turn. So, I think I was just a little bit too slow to benefit fully from my action, but I will get uh one die over here. And I'll put a five down in here. Okay. So, we're getting our honey. We're getting our honey.

22:13 Working towards our things. It's all good. It's all fine. Everyone's happy. I'm not happy. But I could be happy in a different in a different 10 hive game. I could be happy. Anyways, that was my actions. That wasn't my actions at all. That was none of my actions. That wasn't the single action. Or was it actions? Did I double mind? That was double mind. Double mind. Okay, that was both our actions. I'm fine. Everything's okay. Uh, we're going to go to the neighbor phase. Neighbor phase. I will go ahead and draw two replacement cards on this side. Um, and I guess none of these are particularly great, but I will keep this one because I do want to work my way towards that. So, that's something that's worth keeping in mind. I don't know why I'm putting that there. That should be over there. Um, and I'm going to keep this one over here. Then we're going to the scoring. Scoring is going to be the following. We're going to go ahead and do that, which means we are going to roll the uh 10 dye over here. You roll the yellow B dice. So, if I get anything that's not, I get a one, two, that's already good enough. So, I already get that right here. So, I can already use that. But I cannot bother rolling it again to get anything else.

23:07 But, I do get that additional honey. And I think I will put it towards um I think it makes sense towards going towards chopping almost or fishing. Let's go to fishing. We're going to go to fishing. So, we're going to go ahead and mark that off towards fishing. That was probably a mistake. I need the other thingies. I need the other stuff. Whatever. It's fine. It's fine. It's not like it's it's not like it's just everything to me. Uh that was our scoring phase. Um I I was very cool. I got my three thingies and didn't benefit from it at all. We're going to go ahead and move on. So moving on over here, we go ahead and we go to the next round. Next round is round six. We do neighbors. We did that. We do growth. So these are all going to tick up over here. And this is where some things are going to pop off in a fun, satisfying way because these are going to pop off. That's going to pop off. Uh we're going to go ahead and um take this over here.

23:53 Ooh, I guess. Could I have taken that honey and sold it for a coin to get a chicken accelerated? I could have. I think I could have. So, that honey I got right away, I'm going to turn around and sell that honey for a coin because that will give me a another chicken before the chickens start growing. So, that's going to bump it up. So, I'm going to take back that honey action. It's a undo. It makes sense. Then, this is going to tick up as well. And you'll see I'm going to get that honey back in a second anyway. So, I'll be able to cash that in. I'm just changing the order of things. So, in the growth phase, these pop off and I get two chickens to deal with. But for these, we're going to do the following. We're going to take this over here and I'm going to trade it in for a neighbor gift, which means I can go ahead and mark on this track. I get a tree trunk and I get an asteroid. Those things are both great. Both of them are great for different reasons. The tree trunk is going to go towards our second hive over here. Do I want to do You know what? I probably could go straight for those. Honestly, I could go straight for the sum is lower than 11 or is it greater than 11? Some is I think this one's east dice is greater than three and some has to be lower than 11. That's what this one is. So I think I think we will try to go ahead and go for well a tree trunk could go down here if I want.

24:59 I'll be getting those soon enough anyway. And I do need to go fishing. So I think we will Oh my gosh. I also want that for the other thing.
