[Music] good morning evening everybody it's taryn here from meeple university and i'm henry nice to meet you henry here today because as the chat has established stella is overseas in bali at the moment so it is just the two of us uh here playing a two plot well it could be four player but a uh two player game of warchest of course all of our live streams are two players so i don't know why i made a point of that nevertheless the case uh we are we are both sleepy i guess we're both uh we've both had big nights in uh events that we enjoy i've been up soon i've been up for five hours now uh with the european song contest overnight yes that was literally just wrapping up seconds before this stream um we're doing the uh doing the reprise now now we're down to ukraine and i've been watching fa cup since 1am so that went to extra time and penalties so that kept me up um majority of the night but looking forward to playing more chess so so there we have it how is everyone that's what stella usually asks at this point um so hello lists people say hello to uh joe michael just the the the first part of each letter has been cut off so i may get the first letter yes richie we got mark probably because wearing masks today that is possible once again we are we are as we were last week we are in masks because of uh i'm traveling to join stella at the end of next week and i need to make sure i stay healthy for that do you want to try and move this mark a little bit closer to us i could do that okay hopefully you'll start hearing me better in a moment um just getting this microload down is that it's not kind of camera is it no it's very close from the front of the camera it's about as far as i can go probably no probably not with the not with the camera there how's the sound now chat can you give us um can you give us a feedback on if we're a little bit louder and durable are we audible that's the most important thing i've been asked to give access to the computer is that through a team excuse me now you have to stretch it out sorry do you have to stretch it out this is what i usually do yes um if you don't know warchest um it's a game two to four phase let's maybe get it up on screen i can do a little overview um depending if you can hear me or not okay all right um so this time um with the war chest we can play with like set units or random units and the units that you play with like these chips here and at the start of just when we get playing we've got our um we're going to be drawing these chips uh he gets all chips each randomly to determine what what units we're going to be playing with and yeah um for the two player game we get sectioned into this area here so these purple areas are for the three the four players and um yeah this just wondering how how people are with the hearing so far i think they're still working on i'm getting stellar access to the computer it looks like a few settings getting twiddled with now and i'm not doing it so okay so stella is um working her magic in the back is that sounding better um how am i sounding um so yes we will be we'll be playing with random random sets today random units which we have in this deck and we're not going solely from the base game because this is a game that's been out for a little while we also have we do have two of the expansions available with us got the siege and the nobility and they each add some extra things to the game as well as extra units and we've added the siege units in but we haven't added the fortresses that you play with the siege units so for those who are familiar with all these expansions and familiar with the units that's how we won't be playing it um so i'll be playing as the the wolf side i think it's all um and i'll be the raven i believe yes yeah all right and yes this is a it's a light deck bag build type of uh game with a with a war element i didn't listen to how much you explained but uh start again um yeah so what we'll be doing is we'll be drawing our units that will give us access to all of the chips that correspond to that unit or all the coins they will go into our bags or at least two from each unit will start in them and then as we draw them from our bag we can either use them to place on the board and get into the battle or we can use them to take actions such as recruiting other units into the bag to build up bag moving the matching unit and things like that and of course attacking with it um and that with that let's see what units will be playing so we've got all of these shuffled up let's see what units out of the 20 so i've got the royal guard i've got the modified royal guard actually i think this is the rebalanced version that came out of the nobility expansion henry your first one we've got lancer answer do you want to go over what they do or do we explain that after you do the rules i guess once again there we you go did a number on me with the archers last time yeah i'm not too happy you got the archer [Music] uh i've got the swordsman the fighters there melee though i've got a knight that's a hardy okay got the berserker all right and then i have a mercenary mercenaries few extra actions in them it's a bag okay i'm getting a good response from the chat but the sound is up and where it ought to be all right you've got some running range yeah okay perfect all right do i need to close the thing that i opened for you to fiddle around with the sound i think that is on top of it okay yeah all right so let's have a uh let's have a look at what these units do all right don't go for your eyes yep all right so i have the i'll start with the archer so the archer does ranged attack but only does ranged attack so i cannot attack in melee but i can attack at a range of two uh in any direction with bends so if i were here i could attack here and i can shoot over the top of other units so the most ranged of all of the fighters i've got the knight the knight attack the knight cannot be attacked by a an unbolstered unit so in the game these chips will be on the board you can only have one of each type of chip but you can strengthen it by giving it more lives and more strength and so to be attacked the night has to be against one of these uh strengthened units one of these ball studios i've got the mercenary so the measuring is after i recruit a mercenary which is to take a mercenary chip and put it into my bag i get to maneuver my mercenary units so that if you perform an action with mercenary whenever you add a messenger to your bag i'm just making sure i got recruit and deploy correct i definitely did so i would have to have my mercenary on the board and then recruit another into my bag so it's going to give me three bonus actions with my mercenary yeah um which is not too shabby stella's just got a little request for me um turn up the dial behind the mic gain number i think i uh fiddled around with that when i was struggling uh on the back uh that's the bottom on the side not showing to us there's another one there's a knob that says gain over here i see okay let's see how this one goes right so that is that is my mercenary and then the royal guard the royal guard's a nice defensive one so normally when a unit gets attacked on the board you discard one of its chips from the board the royal guard can be discarded from off the board from this stack over here so i've kind of got automatic lives if i don't put them into the bag um and i can also use my uh player coin so we've eventually got one coin that doesn't correspond to any unit i can use this one to move the royal guard up to two spaces this is the modified one from the expansion so it used to be one space but um one space or a maneuver i can't remember which but i believe you could give one space okay yeah normal move all right i'm going over my units here i'll start with the crossbowmen so [Music] much like the art so you can shoot at range however crossbowmen can only shoot in straight lines so crosstalking was here we could shoot this area or this area but it couldn't target this green spot because it's had a it goes through a diagonal hex the crossbowman also can't shoot through other units so there's a unit between here and here it couldn't shoot this target here however unlike the archer it does have a melee attack so you can target units adjacent to it i have the berserker this unit um whenever you bolster it you can keep bolstering it up and at any stage you can um after you perform an action with the bazooka you can perform an additional action by discarding one of the bolstered chips back to the discard area and then you'll get shuffled cycled back into your bag um something important to note is when you normally take damage you normally lose a chip and it goes back to the supply so it's gone for the for the rest of the game so this guardian is quite good because you'll get them back and you'll be able to keep using them and the berserker can do this as as many times as you can based on how many chips are on there i've got the swordsman uh something's very straightforward uh after they attack they can perform a move action so you can do hit and run or sort of move on to special strategic targets on the board and we also have the lancer and the lancer lets you move up to two spaces and attack in a straight line um so if they have an editable target i can use the lancer to move an attack however the lancers um can only attack by doing this tactic so once he's here he can no longer attack until he moves away did i have the last one when we played i may of and i feel like i definitely missed that part of the card yeah it's a little bit limited but also uh very strong much more range yeah all right and then the aim of the game is to control six of these shielded locations so we each begin with two we have four others here on the side of the board waiting to be put in all right so now we will share how to enter this giveaway brand new game it was out in 2018.

all right let's get into the game so to set up we take what's called our royal coin which has our symbol on it and then two of each unit add to the bag now of course you can do the setup with recommended tests you can do the setup by drafting we've gone for the random option [Music] and then to pick a first player we flip the um the coin that has each of our things on each side initiative all right and now for each round we will draw three coins all right all right so we're just going to take a minute um alternating turns playing these three coins to do a number of different actions a bit of eight different actions but um majority of them are sort of situational i guess then depending on where this game is at um but we'll go for the actions as we do them um so i'm going to get get stuck in i guess yep all right i'm going to deploy the solution out to this location okay i am going to recruit an archer so i can use any coin to do that i'm going to [Music] deploy the letter okay i'm going to recruit another archer great so i only got four archer coins i've got five mercenaries and wrong guards that's another balance between the different chip types i'm gonna also do a recruit i'll put this face down and i'm going to grab these okay and i'm going to recruit a night so i did all recruiting in this first round okay all right here's three more chips all right i'm going to recruit sorry i just read the royal garden closely um it's the scarlet royal coin to move the royal guard up to two spaces to a location that you control i can't use it to spread out around the world i can only uh use it to go from home to home i see that is different much more situational yeah very situational i have to think what i'm going to do with that i'm going to recruit some more chips i've grabbed myself a swordsman all right i am going to i'm going to play i'm going to deploy an archer and i'm going to recruit another swordsman okay and all right [Music] i'm trying to work out why my phone keeps buzzing it's because i've got the giveaway open oh i see getting constantly buzzed i thought i hit do not disturb i must have must have missed it not an expert at this all right um where was i i'm going to i'll deploy the messenger and i am going to recruit alexa and i will recruit a mercenary and then maneuver all right um and so henry will remain first player until i spend an action to take initiative which i can do when i'm sick of going second or i've got nothing better to do yep or when it's tactically advantageous uh i'm going to say one to move my swordsman yeah all right i shall spend i'm going to spend the mercenary coins and move that nursery there i'm going to move my answer on the board all right so i've got to watch out for straight lines for this lancer i will i'm going to recruit another mercenary and then take a maneuver and then one of the maneuvers is to control a location so i'm going to turn my control marker down here mercenary is pretty good early on in the game yes yeah and i rather suspect that's the only time so i'm gonna make the most of it yeah all right um so now both our bags are empty so when your bags are empty i finally discard the chips put them back in the bag and draw free again [Music] too much right yep i'm going to move my lantern to here okay i'm going to move my mercenary out of its way and i shall move my lancer again here should have gone there giving me more options um all right a bit of balls to this guy and i'm going to move my cross batman to yeah okay dangerous little location there i'm going to move my knife okay okay i'm going to use to get my letter lancer worries me very greatly um but i can see that all you that all your lancer chips are visible so i know i'm safe from it for a little while so bearing that in mind let's move my mercenary into crossbowman range but he's bolstered so i'm going to move my swordsman to here okay i will recruit this mercenary to walk down this but yeah the spot here grabbing this spot click i'm going to grab this spot with my assortment all right and then i will i'm going to deploy a royal guard i don't know why i'll leave that guy you forgot you had the other recruit spot yeah i'll deploy royal guard there all right okay next round goes quickly you don't have that many uh you don't have that many choices yeah um okay i'm just gonna have to help a lot of what you've seen [Music] i'm going to move my sword in to here okay a very dangerous dangerous location i will i think i shall remove my knight here i'll recreate my zipper yeah okay i will remove my archer here i'm going to make my assortment here and i will take initiative okay i'll see you all so i get two chips out of my bag and then shopping always good to have a game with this level of um tactility now one thing i'll um point out for those who are wondering about the flanks is that there's a uh two versus two version of the game so four player version and that version uses these um two flanks up here we play only on the light looking for like a 2v2 game i'd love to see how that plays out um yeah yeah i think that would make for a good tactical um tactical battle yeah all right so you've gone back into your i think the first thing for me to do is let me just shoot now i'll just show you actually i'm going to shoot your landscape okay first is that first casualty of the war i believe so well i thought tommy's going to have an attack at your archer yep polite and he gets to maneuver after doing that sorry is that never on move i can't capture move forward anyway okay i shall deploy me i shall deploy i think what's good about this game is that the rules are very simple i think most how to play the sort of tender 15 minutes and there's not too many different rules to remember on these cards as well no we got stuck in and played a practice game very fast but actually played a couple games because it was like um just so suddenly like oh well that's all yeah this is feeling pretty close so far i'm people already got that huge stack of mercenaries but um a bit worried about my staying power obviously the more they stack up the less they can move um because you're less in your bag so yeah it might be a good thing for me uh you're up first thank you all right okay i am going to remove the archer here move the outer i shall move the answer okay i'm going to all standards and type the initiative and i will recruit a knight i'm going to move my swordsman to here okay okay i'm going to do a control action with my swordsman to kick you out of here put myself on i wasn't able to defend it all right what am i going to do now i think i will move my mercenary stack here yep i'm going to recruit i'm going to recruit our crossbowmen i'll move my knight stack here i'm going to bolster my crossbowmen i would have shot but i'm not allowed to shoot your knight with a single unit so yeah he's strong enough all right we'll move the mercenary stack over here that's it that's it we've got one chip yeah punch it for me as well lots of uh lots of people on the flight to bali good smooth flights and people are planning their next trips now that things are more open yeah i'm pretty jealous of that let's be honest being overseas and somewhere sunny and warm sounds pretty good right now not far away i'm not far away but um and when when do you leave the friday i live on thursday so i'm done all right all right i'm going to move my swordsman to here played very differently the last time you hit the archer i'm able to abuse the fact you can't shoot him mainly um yeah and one feeble little swords on your uh he's doing a mission doing it with a lot of actions rather than a lot of strength i'm struggling to fight it which is annoying all right i'm gonna me take initiative that's sorry there's a initiative coin that's been uh not on the screen let's think oh i'm going to use my swordsman again to attack your archer and we're going to get a free movie as well looking like bad news for me all right and i'm gonna do now i am going to pass up there's nothing i really want to do with that coin okay all right just about covered all the action directly once you've done that pass um yeah all righty uh let's well actually that i guess my knight is safe really isn't it i can't you can't attack me at the moment correct but if you bolster then at least i sleep down to get done i'm gonna kill that swordsman no my hero um okay um going to use the opportunity to take one health of that mercenary all right um all right i'm going to take the opportunity to do this the chat is now uh on the subject of disneyland it's very um very thematically correct right it's what disneyland's like nor they're like people dressed up in costumes and terrified of them i want to [Music] i'm going to take the initiative okay all right and they got killed okay that's all i'm going to do a control action with my knight here all right when did you get five hmm i know a bit cheeky that's a problem all right we'll counter that with something to do i will counter it here here [Music] and i shall bolster this guy okay okay and i will remove my archer okay moving to here there you have the uh other sources sound pretty confident i don't know if there's much i can do here i'll move my knight here and you're moving your knight you're going to force my hand swordsman's going to control the sixth and final territory here we go i lose it again sorry tan that's uh i think i had a nice defensive structure going but wasn't able to i wasn't really able to find a way into attack i guess um i just the timing your archer didn't quite carry out for you down the left i'm gonna sort of this top half of the board um you really need to go shut off the staff that swordsman but i just seem to tie my dashes in to get into melee range that is true when when the time came i i think the three archer coins for the last three out of my bag yeah when you were making a charge which uh certainly didn't help yeah i finally realized the benefit here a little bit too late i was going to get the uh the next one of these and then zip across here and defend it's a good way of defending out from the board because he would have needed three kills to go down yeah um yeah i i thought i wouldn't use the berserker this game because last game we played i pretty much focused on the berserker and stacking up actions and using them all at once um but you nearly beat me that game you were like literally one i was one mistake away yes yes um i forgot to take initiative when i could have clinched the victory with my first action and then you kind of fell apart from there yeah it can be very like very like just one little thing can make the difference in this game um because there are definitely units that are good early game units and there are ones that um like the mercenary as we said before in mercenary i i did a lot more with the nursery than i expected actually yeah i didn't reading the card i wasn't expecting much um you know maybe a couple of restrictions but no big deal you know recruiting a mercenary just like moving the mercenaries what's the difference but um the fact that you can do a maneuver when you do that action is yeah it's like a free whenever you want to do the mercenary move you can just do it which is nice um so i think i either used it to get one or two locations early and just have my corner which i did successfully defend but yeah i was just too weak over there losing losing this spot was the swing that put you put me in comfort where i could let you have this half and not stress because if you have this one then you're one spot away from winning which is like you know um that the stage where it's like one mistake can cost you the game but um yeah if i'd had a good swing here then i was also going to bring him out here defend this side and then yeah probably we're not going to keep standing up definitely would have been a standoff across this side of the map if we kept it going uh i would have to try and buff this guy up and hope you can get past your royal ballads and your mercenaries and whatnot um it would have been interesting and i think we've lost similar amounts of chips up to that at that point anyway there we have it yeah back to us that is the uh yeah my password biggest friend than usual that's a very quick screen yeah not even 10 o'clock but yeah there we have it that is warchest so the uh the base game of war chest has 16 different units in it and then there is they all do similar sorts of things there we didn't have any that moved each other back to the table there are some that will uh the marshall will let you uh move one of your you can spend a martial trip to move one of your other units so it's a good one to plonk on a central sort of thing and then direct traffic uh cavalry moves then attacks the opposite of the swordsman i think that's better i think you get less chips yeah instead of five yeah i think having five tips i've realized from this game is um it just lets you get those even more actions if you just stuck the you know the five swordsmanships i was getting loads of swordsman actions yeah it was just saying march down there yeah ensign is that's the one that you're using against me sorry the answer moves the marshall attacks or has other other units attack yeah the pikeman retaliates when he gets stabbed so it's kind of a nice defensive one trebuchet is one of the siege units attacks long range zapper builds fortifications these are forced by ones footmen work in pairs um all sorts of things there so there's a lot of variety and i guess the different combos of units really create different sort of scenarios interesting um sort of plays and i think there's a draft version where you can draft uh you draw like a card or something can you draft the units between each other um you can sort of counter each other's picks and that kind of thing when you get to like a lot of plays i think it will become very relevant i think you would have to do that i think if you if you're familiar with all of these i'm sure you would um there would be combinations that would just be unstoppable versus each other so siege adds some fortresses to the board just gives you extra extra defense on certain spaces and four four actually units and then nobility another four units and additional actions and it makes this it makes this royal coin this um this chip here the one that's sort of so normally in our bag building we have one chip that you can't really do much with it it's basically like a blank chip that you can only recruit other chips with or take the initiative um but mobility gives you uses for these chips other than that so you can get special abilities and um different powers and stuff like that so i was always surprised that you know the the modern game gives you it gives you so much choice i always would have thought this would be a while but it's not it's a uh it's quite a limited uh coin i think it playing this game i think it makes sense it's just to fill fill out the bag just a little bit so you can't just have you know five saltman in my bag and that's my entire bag at least i've got one thing stopping me from like you know diluting that bag so much that it's one unit i think that's the back i think that's the favorite of ours on yeah when we've got small space and the opportunity to uh realize that while we're very compatible our lateral thinking is not the same yeah right i just answered david's question um i believe there's only two expansions to this board game is that correct there's no other thing released it might be one not a new one that we're not aware of that's come in or something but um i
