Hi everybody.

Hello, I'm Ryan.

I'm Bethany.

And we are Ryan and Bethany Board Game Reviews.

And today we'll be talking about a cat days and woof days. But I am really curious, why didn't they make cat days and dog days or yow days and woof days?

That's a good point. I haven't thought about that.

Wha.

Wha.

Wha. But anyway, this game is designed by Gareth Edwards and is published by 25th Century Games. I said this game, but I mean these games.

That's right, because there are two in fact games here we're talking about, Cat Days and Woof Days. The concept behind these is identical. So I'm going to teach them as if they're one game and then kind of explain the delineations a little bit later on. Basically, the whole idea behind this is you're going to fill your week up with pets. Doesn't that sound delightful?

Super.

Every day, more and more pets. Uh, this is a two-player only game. It's a head-to-head game where you are trying to fill up your week with cats or pets in general. All right, so you have a hand of four cards, that's how you start the game. And then every turn you're either going to draw a new card or you're going to play one of the cards from your hand. That's it. Turns are super, super simple. All right, so each card has parameters, it has, you know, it can only be played on certain days. The tighter the parameter, but usually the more points they're worth. So some cards might say you can only play this on a Tuesday. It's worth a lot of points. But this over here, there's another pet that says you can play it on any day of the week, but it's worth a small amount of points. That's one of the little balances of the game. Cuz you can usually only play one pet per day. Uh, but uh, there might be some special abilities and things like that that mess with things, allow you to stack multiple pets onto one day and therefore filling that day with just a ton of pets, either cats or dogs, which is really, really fun.

All right, so the game itself ends when one player has filled up their entire week. But it doesn't necessarily mean they win. You're still going to add up all of your points. Uh, and whoever has the most points, they're the ones who are declared the winner. The two games, they are nearly identical. There are some small changes between them, but again, the concepts are the same. Fill up your week with pets. Whoever has the most points wins the game.

It is so easy to learn this game. One of the reasons why it is so easy, as Ryan just said, the game is placing the cards in their different slots. But anything that would change that, any variant, is just on the card. Like the text has it. It's never more than like a sentence. Really quick, easy information on there that's that's easy to digest when you're playing. So just really easy to teach, really easy to learn, and really easy to play.

In addition to the pet cards, there's also special ability cards. These allow you to break the rules in some small way. For instance, they might have you move cards from day to day, which is kind of cool, uh making room for other things. Maybe there's cards that allow you to stack cards together, so you have multiple cards on the same day. Whatever the case is, you have some special ability cards in as well as the normal pet cards. Those are the two things you're going to find in the deck. Cat cards, special ability cards. Okay, so pet cards. You can tell which one I preferred, but we'll get to that later.

[gasps]

Um it's very travel friendly. Like you can see Ryan holding them, they're just stacks of cards. You can easily put this in your purse or your bag or anything. You can just keep it with you and play this. Very easy, coffee date type of thing. Um and you can just, like I said, it's super travel friendly.

So why would you choose one over the other? Basically comes down to what kind of a person are you? Are you playing with a cat person? Are you playing with a dog person? Are you yourself a cat person? Are you yourself a dog person? Cuz either way you're going to find a lot of enjoyment. Or if you are just allergic to either, play with them so you can see these pets that you normally don't need to see. I don't know. Um there are some small differences. For instance, in the Woof days, there is a lot of cards, special ability cards specifically, that allow you to stack cards. Um but the the specific days, but the cat days that there's like a cat tower and on the cat tower you can place that and then that can stack up to three cats on the cat tower. So again, similar concept but different ways of doing it.

Yeah.

Uh, but um, there's other than that, it doesn't really change the gameplay. Uh, I would just say get with the one that you think matches you or whoever you're going to play with style cats or dogs.

Yeah. I thought the game was cute. It's

[cough]

it's not necessarily my favorite game, um, but I thought it was cute. It worked. We created a variant where like we were playing both of the games. So Ryan was playing with one of our daughters, I was playing with the other daughter at the same time and then we compared our scores that way. So we like created a bigger version of this game. Um, but one of the things that I think is good about this like that like I mentioned earlier that you could take it to a coffee shop. It's it's casual enough where you can carry on a conversation through it which was proven when we were playing our like two on two version of this. We were all just talking while we are playing. So I thought that that worked really well.

This is not the kind of game that I'm going to bring to a game night. This is not even going to be the kind of game that when Bethany and I are playing here at home, we're going to bust out just you know, one on one. The one exception being it's the very very end of the night and we're just like we want to chat, we want to be playing a game, but we don't want to like have to think that hard. This would be a really great option for us then. I see this more as the kind of thing where you're going to go out somewhere to play with someone who is a cat or dog person or you're going out to a coffee date and you're going to have sip a little coffee, sip a little tea as you're playing a game that's not something that you can still have a great conversation over without having to destruct distract you from the game itself, too. Um, this is going to be a really fun game for someone who's not a gamer necessarily but wants to play a quick fun game with someone who is a gamer. Uh, and again, is lending itself well to its dog and cat people. Um, also a proceed of the proportion of the proceeds do go to animal rescue organizations, which I thought was a really cool little I don't know, little thing they added on to make it more valuable people who are dog and cat people. They give them another reason to participate is because they know they're going to a good cause as well. Uh, so that's Wolf Days, that's Cat Days.

Um, super, super, super simple. I mean, it doesn't get much more simple, but it's still charming.
