Description

Set a Watch: Doomed Run is the culmination of the entire Set a Watch series into a campaign and big box storage solution. Showcasing content from the entire Set a Watch series (along with plenty of new content), you will play through 7 realms attempting to stop the mysterious cult behind resurrecting the Unhallowed. As you play through each realm, you will take on side quests to unlock new adventurers and their mythic items, while other adventurers will permanently perish along the way. Each Doomed Run is completely replayable and takes you across the 7 realms of the kingdom as you attempt side quests to unlock new adventurers and their powerful mythic items.

Pros
  • Organizes all Set a Watch content into one box.
  • Introduces a campaign mode with new content.
  • Side quests add variety and make the campaign engaging.
  • Provides a lot more of the game for existing fans.
  • Includes new characters, locations, and creatures.
Cons
  • Requires owning all previous Set a Watch content to play.
  • Storage system is difficult to use until everything is unlocked.
  • Hassle to set up and play compared to the original small box game.
  • Campaign can feel repetitive despite different realms.
  • Not a "magic bullet" to fix issues with the base game.
Thematic elements
  • Campaign mode combining all released Set a Watch content.
  • Voice narration advertised, but only text paragraphs were present for the reviewer.
Comparison games
  • Set a Watch
  • Swords of the Coin
  • The Outriders creature expansion
Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Campaign progression — Players progress through seven realms with increasing difficulty and sprinkled story elements.
  • Content unlocking — White envelopes unlock more content for use in subsequent realms, and new characters are unlocked via side quests.
  • Mythic items — Can be acquired by completing side quests, offering significant boosts to characters.
  • Side quests — Offer choices between three quests with new stipulations that add difficulty, with rewards for completion. Players choose one, put one back, and remove one from the game.
  • Wardens — After playing a realm, one character is elected as a warden for the next, providing a small boost but removing them from play until the final round.

Quotes (from this video)
  • The answer is maybe but let's get into that
  • I think my favorite Venture and everything is in this box the Druid for anybody who's wondering but it just is a little bit more of the same
  • setat doomed run is the big box container for all of your set ofat boxes with a little cubby here to hold all three
  • The loop that they introduce of getting a new difficult stipulation that you have to navigate through figuring out how to navigate through it playing four rounds with that stipulation and then getting a reward as a beautiful little carrot at the end uh is great
  • I think that just wouldn't be worth it for me
  • organizational issues aside I would recommend getting this
