Description

It's so hard to feel seen as a Cryptid these days. In this immersive strategy game, you'll navigate your love-hate relationship with humans and outwit your fellow Cryptids to earn your status as a true legend. As hunters, hikers, and researchers scatter across the wilderness hoping to catch a glimpse of you, you'll stage elaborate hoaxes, plant perfect decoys, and lurk discreetly in the shadows to build up your myth. You might even expose your true self once in a while, but be warned: vulnerability can come at a price.

In Cryptid, players choose a Cryptid with unique powers and hiding spots and use Action cards to determine the affects if their are spotted. Players also Hidden Trait cards to get objective that you’ll try to achieve by the end of the game in order to score bonus Myth.

Once you have completed 5 rounds, flip over the remaining Sightings in your Stacks and your Hidden Trait before determining the winner of the game.
The player with the greatest total Myth wins the game and is deemed the True Legend, while the others scurry home before the Humans catch them.

Pros
  • Kids love the plushies.
  • Kids like the Unstable Unicorns line of games, the art and those plushies.
  • Excited for Here to Slay Dungeons (but did not back it).
Cons
  • Debated putting Casting Shadows on the list, but it had a reason for backing (kids).
  • Spent $199 (closer to $350-400 with playmats, plushies, etc.).
  • After the experience with Casting Shadows and spending $400 on a game not really played, this was leaping down the same rabbit hole.
  • Read the rules but have not played it.
  • Excitement went out the window after reading the rules.
  • Doesn't seem interesting enough.
  • Host is not the target audience.
  • Spent more than would have on an actual toy.
  • Most money wasted for this specific campaign.

Quotes (from this video)
  • This has everything to do with should I have known better at the time? Should I have known better at the time and not backed it?
  • I regret backing them more if the more they cost.
  • I backed it not because I was interested in the game. I backed it because there was a really good price on the game. That's why I backed it.
  • I convinced myself into wanting the things.
  • I cannot believe for the life of me that I spent $130 on a bunch of metal cubes for a game system that I didn't know I love.
  • It makes no sense to have done so.
  • I back basically every Sean campaign. I can't skip one of them. Doesn't make sense that I'd skip one.
  • After the experience I had with Casting Shadows, after knowing that I spent $400 on a game that I never really played and a bunch of plushies that made no sense, uh, Twisted Crypteds was a leaping down that same exact rabbit hole.
  • The most money spent, the most money wasted.
  • Regret should be saved for those things where you should have known better with the knowledge you had.
