Quotes (from this video)
  • this Channel's purpose is to help get people into the wargaming and Miniatures hobby
  • the following things are what I'd be doing if I was just starting now in 2024 with the benefit of knowledge that I've gained over the last 20 years
  • in my opinion my minifactory is the best Marketplace to find stls for wargaming models
  • files like that are committing intellectual property theft
  • as a Creator myself I'm completely against that kind of thing
  • the absolutely amazing amount of choice that's available and the fact that the models even when you factor in the STL cost and like the printing resin cost and all that kind of stuff they are wildly cheaper than the models on offer from the biggest companies in the industry like Games Workshop for example
  • so that's Miniatures but what about the games that you play with these Miniatures
  • OnePage Rules is probably your smartest move
  • they have arguably the best army building website in the entire industry
  • War Cry is probably the best rule set that Game Workshop currently makes in my opinion and in other people's opinions as well
  • if I was getting into wargaming today in 2024 and I decided that I had to get into Warhammer and Games Workshop related stuff what would I do
  • if they don't turn those like $140 Vanguard boxes that they currently have for Age of Sigmar if they don't turn those into basically combat patrols for ages Sigmar then I think they're kind of Dum
  • that covers everything doesn't it it does not actually

Quotes (from this video)
  • finding the right rules instead of the right Vibes is most important in wargaming
  • one person's crunchy rule set is another person's streamlined and simple rule set
  • Games Workshop is very good at their intellectual property but if you're not a fan of their rules to play their games and I understand that you can still keep you know Warhammer in your heart and on your mind
  • the rules are are actually important they're how you interact with the story and the models and the other stuff but that doesn't mean that they're intrinsically linked
  • every game is Miniatures agnostic if you believe in yourself
  • be the change that you want to see in your local gaming group and try out some rules you might like better

Quotes (from this video)
  • I don't not every game needs to have deep lore Some people just want to play fun games Some people want to take the lore from game a and bring it into a game B where they like the rules better
  • lore is interchangeable so you know one of my favorite games out there is space weirdos it has literally no lore it's fine I make up lore on the Fly
  • I like the fact that they're giving you options to play with the models you already have without having to go through and go geez I don't know what are they trying to get a point like what is this again you're like well these guys are supposed to be tyranids oh well it didn't come across as tyranids or whatever I have a whole bunch of tyranids and so I should use this
  • the rules are generic not the lore
  • Are they officially model agnostic I mean sure yeah you can use whatever ever models you want I mean to be fair every game is officially model agnostic even if they don't say it is it is
  • I just don't like moving them in a chunk I like being able to move them separately I don't like that that just here's a thing and the the type of play where it's like well this part has to wheel over and do this and then then you're attacking from a flank
  • rivenstone is the game that you're talking about
  • the problem is this well it's not the problem here's the most recent answer they still haven't produced the stuff yet but the most recent email I got from them which I think was in July was them saying another company is basically buying the game from us and they will do the production and the the Fulfillment

Quotes (from this video)
  • please explain painting Optical camouflage on spaceships I know rule of cool I don't know it just looked neat I guess that's the same thing
  • all the stls that you buy or whether you buy the stuff through uh only games like if you get them printed like if you don't have a printer yourself they can do print on demand as well with those with those same six figures basically it's a 50/50 split
  • it's literally you take off the little silicone kind of cover that goes over the whole nozzle thing so you don't burn yourself on it I guess you take that off you pop off the plastic thing there's a little clip little metal clip you uncp it and then you pull the nozzle out and the nozzle is magnetized so it doesn't like fall out as soon as you uncp it
  • I saw a thing on Facebook about a machine that you just dump all your old pla into and it'll melt it all down and then create a new pla spool which I'm like well that sounds like an awesome idea
  • I think they're that scared of 3D printing I think they don't want to do it
  • I don't think that's really that's not the point is to to beat Games Workshop
  • you create a game like Vince and I do or like fat dragon games does or like lots of different companies you create a game because you want to do it you're not out there to be like the best you're out there to put out a game that you enjoy and then hopefully people will pick up and enjoy as well

Quotes (from this video)
  • it's so over complicated a lot of good ideas but terrible to play
  • the models look really good but um it's also not cheap I swear to God I saw the retail on it for that starter box was like 150 bucks
  • because you can now get a pretty decent looking print we can make more stuff like that
  • I used to play silent death back in the day which was a game made by a company called iron Crown Enterprises we used to play the heck out of that
  • it was definitely very kind of complicated as well but at the time being a younger person I enjoyed it quite a bit
  • I don't know if I'm not sure if Vince has played ship combat games I have
  • I use an iada uh Eclipse uh iada hpcs I think is the technical uh model name or whatever and I've always loved that thing it works great
  • why you wouldn't have Federation versus Klingon AR Romulan as the starter factions in any Star Trek game it makes no logical sense to me
  • so I was really hoping they were going to do something different with um with the new version and when they sent me like the copy and I was started reading the rules and stuff I was just like oh this is pretty much just the same
  • there's a zillion charts in that game
  • it was a little fiddly but not too fiddly
  • I do wonder if making Star Trek games fairly complicated is part of knowing Their audience as a trekky I can safely say we tend to like that kind of crunch and the complexity
  • I don't want to play too much crunch these days you know what I mean
  • CPS speed paint through the airbrush on the bottom terrain is the goat indeed
  • I made a video about how to make it so your airbrush never clogs again and I'm 98% sure I made that video
  • I have never had a clog in my airbrush in a decade at this point
  • hard to believe silent death was from the same company I mean probably different people obviously you know but yeah silent death sheets a bit like hero clicks whereas you take damage
  • the tabletop minions Awards will be coming out on Friday so less than a week away tabletop minions awards for 2024

  • HOAs are a blight on this country.
  • My first videos were shot on a Nikon D5100, which I had to trick into shooting, well, that's not true. I didn't have to trick it into shooting video. I had to trick it into kind of giving me manual control of how I shot video.

  • This stuff looks like it came straight out of Dawn of War video game.
  • I used rattle can primer on my last metal minis. It's what I did with my old 40k minis as well.
  • The game itself can be very standalone. You can use whatever miniatures you want. It's very miniature agnostic.
  • The games play very quickly because it's um it's not about like, oh, I've got five wounds. It's like, oop, I got shot. That guy's out.
  • I'm leaving because 40k is constantly changing the rules or I'm leaving because it's too expensive.
  • Don't get into 40k unless it is the first year of their three-year cycle. That's probably a good piece of advice for sure. If you're going to get into 40k, do it when a new edition comes out. That's the best time, and it's still not a great time.
  • GW have been real weird about the way they've been dealing with stores lately.
  • It's a multi-billion dollar market cap company and you guys can't have a like a website backend for people to put their orders in. You got to use Google Docs. Are you crazy?
  • Space Station Zero is probably my second favorite if I had to choose. My first favorite probably being um Majestic 13.
  • It was definitely uh was a was a thing that we did a lot uh at the uh there when we lived over there on uh that place burned down.

  • any miniature war game can be miniatures agnostic if you believe in yourself.
  • Nearly all Warhammer miniatures will work well with the games from OnePage Rules.
  • If you don't want to try miniature agnostic games because you can't leave the models of Games Workshop behind, now you have a bunch of Warhammer models that will work in tons of miniature agnostic games.

  • Still just don't really like the newest edition of War Cry or sorry not War Cry, Killteam.
  • It seems like it's not about trying to kill the other guys. It seems like it's more about just like it doesn't seem like a war game.
  • There's also a lot of tokens to keep track of and stuff like that and that seems to get even worse in um Shatterpoint.
  • Infinity rules are free.
  • This is the essentials start here box and it's like 40 bucks and it comes with six models, three per side. It comes with six dice. Evidently, there's a ruler in there. There's card stock or cardboard chipboard like uh terrain, printed terrain. There's a card stock mat. Uh, there's cards. There's also the fancy book about how to get started and all that stuff. And uh, it just seems like it's a really good deal.
  • Just started playing Notorious, which is really easy solo RPG. Basically a Star Wars bounty hunter uh hunting targets on a planet based on Ronin.
  • Uh subscribe to Vince Venturella on YouTube. Vince Venturella and Sam Lens. Sam Lens artwork. I would definitely subscribe to both of them.

  • Onepage rules is a small company that makes rules for whatever miniatures you want to use.
  • The rules are mostly free or maybe five bucks if you want like the advanced version with all kinds of like modular add-ons and customization and all that kind of stuff.
  • It's not an affiliate link. I don't think that Mini My Minifactory does those, but they should, right?
  • This news was released on April 14th, and it's about the Worlds Beyond Brawl.
  • If you sign up to get notified of when the thing launches, then you'll also get two free STLs like right away.

  • OPR is the GURPS of wargaming.
  • 40K rules as deep, I would call it artificially deep.
  • Star Wars Legion terrain is almost always the best.
  • OPR skirmish is a breath of fresh air compared to Kill Team.
  • The damned stuff is supposed to be out, but it's not out yet, unfortunately.

Quotes (from this video)
  • I
  • I was never super into the video game, frankly. So, I'm not I don't have the nostalgia for it.
  • I'm also not really into army games, so like the scale of it, not the physical scale of the models, but how many models there are is also not really my thing.
  • I always love making lore for my miniatures in Trench Crusade. It's just so interesting making backstory for each of them.
  • I love the new GW Cog fort model, but is anyone going to make a squadron and buy four of them at $210 a piece?
  • The white ones are definitely the type that don't take rattle can.
  • Shatterpoint biggest problem wasn't really the game. I think it was the feeling of the neglect.
  • That walking building sure is cool. Assume I can buy it and it's not totally sold out already.
  • Metal minis, that's a tough one. I'm not good at those.
  • Sets one and two are grim dark, but three and four lean into the Wim dark. Oh, I like the word whim dark. That's fun.
  • I'm going to be working on these guys, which are um the naval raiders from uh Trench Crusade.
  • It's such a fun world to build inside.
  • I'm probably going to paint these guys up and then when the plastics come out, I'll probably just redo them.

Quotes (from this video)
  • However, the folks at OnePage Rules did something really interesting recently, and I thought I'd talk about it here by talking a little bit about video games first.
  • Now, I'll admit I'm absolutely looking forward to playing GTA 6 as soon as that comes out this fall.
  • Mostly these days I play, you know, rogue likes and rogue lights.
  • And honestly, it reminds me very much of a roglike style video game, except that you're not playing as an egg named potato, you know, but other than that.
  • As is the way with games from one page rules, how you play is always up to you.
  • As you fight, you will start to gain bonuses that you can apply to your troops or war bands or heroes, whatever, which is also very much like video game rogue likes.
  • I love that OnePage Rules continues to add new free ways to play their already very, very inexpensive games.
  • I also find it interesting when the world of tabletop wargaming borrows things from the world of like video games.

Pros
  • Models are pre-assembled.
  • Good detail on miniatures.
  • Included components like terrain, playmat, and tokens provide a complete starter experience.
  • The price is considered reasonable for the amount of content.
  • Easy to get started with, minimal building required.
  • Models are made of a plastic that takes paint well.
Cons
  • Some minor bending on plastic parts that requires hot water to fix.
  • The terrain is cardboard and not as high-quality as MDF.
  • Some smaller parts (gators, spider) need to be glued on, which was not initially expected by the reviewer.
Thematic elements
  • sci-fi
Comparison games
  • Frost Grave
  • Starrave
  • War Games Atlantic
Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Army building — The discussion of points values (800-900 points per faction) and the ability to tweak armies with special abilities and different unit choices points to army construction as a key mechanic.
  • Vehicle Rules — Vehicles are mentioned as being expensive point-wise and 'scary' in the context of OnePageRules, suggesting specific rules and considerations for their use.
  • Wargaming — The product is identified as a sci-fi miniature wargame, implying mechanics related to unit movement, combat, and tactical deployment.

Quotes (from this video)
  • Everything you see here is in the box and it's already built.
  • So, all this stuff comes in this box for $120 American.
  • It's got really nice detail and I don't see a lot in the way of mold lines.
  • So, um, if you're a person like me who's kind of tired of having to build models as much as as Games Workshop sometimes wants you to to do, um, with the amount of parts that they are, um, I'm either preferring to work with stuff like Frost Grave, Starrave, War Games Atlantic, simpler models to build, or stuff like this, or stuff that's 3D printed that I rarely have to build at all.

  • I have so many duplicates of the same Games Workshop models
  • I learned something interesting about myself this past weekend
  • I'd be lying if I said I was disappointed in this outcome and I'd also be lying if I said that this was the first time that this has happened to me
  • better safe than sorry
  • For me it's a nice feeling to be able to grab a model from my shelf when I want to Kit bash it and paint it rather than trying to find one at a store or God forbid on eBay
  • there's no right way to participate in this hobby no matter what the people on Twitter and Reddit will tell you
