Aberration: Oblivion's Embrace Expansion & Reprint (D+) Kickstarter Critique Review
Transcript
Ohoy there YouTube. I'm back again today for another Kickstarter critique where I take a look at a different Kickstarter tabletop game project every weekday at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Get my honest thoughts on how that project is being ran. And today I am of perfectly average excitement to be checking out the most, not the most popular. No, no, no. That's not correct. That's Dead by Daylight. the second most popular project on all of How in the hell does What? How is that the third most popular project? Kingdom DS with five backers. How did they convert one out of every thousand backers? Okay, Kingdom's Duel. Dang it. There's only two days left to go. Do we pivot? Do we pivot real quick? I just I got I got a tease. Oh, it Yeah. What?
I don't have time for that. I don't have time for your shenanigans. I don't know how you manipulate the system to get to third on Gamefound, but I legitimately want to check it out because I want to see how you exploit the system there. That's just fun to know because they should not be there and one of these things is not like the other. But anyh who, second most popular project on Gamefound just narrowly edging out Kingdom of DS and it's 206 is Aberation Oblivion's Embrace expansion and reprint a cooperative tower defense board game of horror and survival. Can you survive the night? All right, kap cooperative tower defense like those buzzwords. Looking at the main image. Hey, look. It's a generic looking box. Boring. At least I know it's a big box. You let me know it's expansion. So now I know how much it is roughly. I'm going in. I want a big box. I want an expansion. Big box. But main image definitely could be spruced up. Aside from just hoping that I know who you are, and I'm excited.
Otherwise, yeah, it's a floating skull in the sky. Why do I care? As always with the video, I'm thinking of three things. Do I want it? Can you do it? How much is it? Let's see how they convince 682 backers to help them raise $20,000 to make it possible. Excuse me, $131,000 of their $20,000 funding goal. Also, this particular video segment sponsored by onero.com who do some of the best Kickstarter video services on the planet. Check out the link down below. Seriously, you'll be impressed with just the list of people that they've worked with. Tell them Bowers Gamec. Let's get into it. 98 seconds. Inspirations lurk in the forests of Etherus.
Minis,
twisted, vile,
scary, man.
Hungering. Can you survive the night?
Hold them back.
Keep the fires lit.
As shadows encroach upon the village,
you must defend your only safe haven. That was a really nice thematic shot there, interweaving the components, little cool flare, but then kind of setting up the game of like, okay, here you are. You're in the middle. There's going to be bad stuff coming at you. A little uh little like Castle Panicky there.
Cool.
You must defend your only safe haven. You will harness your own unique skills
and rely on whatever equipment you can find. Your survival depends on your companions fighting at your side.
They approach from the east.
Rally the villagers to defend their homes. We fight or we die.
I will hold them at bay.
Light bonfires to keep the darkness at
I don't know if them was that was them spotlighting the stande and the deluxe version there. It might potentially have been that. Either way, interesting shot. I like it.
I like how they're doing that, too. like showcasing the the fact that oh yeah, we have these these deluxe, you know, deluxe meuples here cuz they are deluxe. We always it's it's everything is deluxe nowadays. So, it's important to remember, yeah, back in the olden days, this would be a cube. And now it is not just a cube, it's a cool
light the fire.
Fortify your defenses, gather your resources, and save whoever you can.
The the music is a bit loud. lit
relatively compared compared to the the voiceover
for the approaching darkness.
Yeah. Like right there. Like just try and even even just hear it. Just close your eyes for a second. You're not going to be able to understand this.
Save whoever you can.
Save whatever you can.
Prepare for the approaching darkness.
Prepare for the approaching darkness. I barely got it.
But the great beast whose influence swells aberant swirls and inflicts hideous transformations. It's a big mini.
As the night grows ever longer, you must maintain your resolve. Fight together, keep the fires lit, and never lose hope. But always beware the great beast and its aberrations.
Oh, surprise. You're not just buying one box with this expansion. You're buying three. Haha, you thought that was just for base games? No, silly, silly. Now we're bundling. Now we're unboxing and then reboxing expansions into multiple boxes because that's how we make money. All right, so one to four players, 90 minutes, ages 14 plus after the video. Do I want it? Yeah, I do. It looked good. Looked like a fun game. I've never heard of it, but now I want to play it. It's on my list. I know it's one to four players. I know it's tower defense. Medium weight. Good looking components. I'm excited. Do I want it? Yes. Can you do it? I don't know. Let's check out more about Ghostfire Gaming. I've heard of that name before. They did Neopia Quet. I think I played that. Wasn't that a card game? Then Aberation. Or maybe I covered this. No, I don't think I played this one. I think I think I'm I think I'm thinking of something from Upper Deck.
Uh, an all new look. The reveal of our surprise. Refresh design the core box and the miniame mayhem box. Let's just make sure people got their stuff. That's why we're here. Some impersonator is leaving malicious comments. It would be nice if they stopped doing that. All right. So, from 1 to 10, is there any possibility of seeing the Hannah in the ice caves quest? Appears a comeback after counting the post campaign numbers. There was a Hannah plushy announcement, and now I can't stop thinking about it. You and me both. After that, Chance is afraid that chance is still zero, but it would certainly be nice. Yes, who doesn't love Hannah? Maybe it would be easier to add a quest like that to new book rather than having cards. Uh, how long do how long do I have to pay for shipping? So, is this one not out yet? Yes, I don't think this one is out. We passed $100,000. Well, there's people doing this campaign. And we have a snazzy Hannah quest. Now they've Oh, cool. So they've got post quest exciting stuff getting people engaged still. Awesome. Kudos. I love that. Uh can you do it? That doesn't really help with that, but that's still nice. Uh and then this, which I'm assuming is obviously out, or else you probably wouldn't be having the expansion. I own the original. One of my biggest complaints is that scenario based the game is. I would love a default scenario. Question about the 2.0. Yeah. Cool. Can you do it? Yes.
This looks like this is their baby and they want to take care of their baby. Do I want it? Yes. Can you do it? Yes. How much is it? I don't know. But I know it's probably going to be pretty expensive now because I'm a new person and I need the original box plus all the original garbage you package with the original box of expansions plus the expansion and all these other boxes that I'm just going to throw away and put stuff into. All right. So, sell me. What's this? 36 hero and class combinations to suit your play style. 16 unique scenarios featuring var complexity duration. Build your own scenarios with custom rules. Build the Do you really expect people to sit here and read this? All this is a lot. Six hero miniatures in between the village and the 21 Horde ventures for five each monstrosity mentions corrupted by the great base. Six double. Like I'm like legitimately I'm right here. I'm not even a third of the way. I'm not reading all that. Uh, okay.
7.8. That's nice. I prefer the ranking over the number. I feel like the best play is to do both. Even though I do feel like sometimes the number sounds more impressive than the ranking is, but I'm I there were people that will pound their chest vehemently and or do the other way. That's totally cool. Uh that's why I say do both. New horror event every night. Customize every game session by choosing new heroes scenarios. Cool. Submit to succumb to Oblivion. Hey, it's that expansion. Yeah, like there's like here's here's what I mean. There is legitimately almost as much text to read in this very, very large scrollable graphic about this expansion than there is in that tiny graphic earlier where you just lumped everything together from all three. Um, 95 bucks. That doesn't feel good. That doesn't feel good at all. Perhaps I didn't see Oh, you have minis. That's why you have minis. I wish you told me the price how many minis there were in there. Did you tell me? I'm sure you did. Hey, I messed it. Maybe I'll go back up to this my filing cabinet of information here. This is the uh I'm looking at this one. 36 heroes and class combination. So, I think that means 36 minis maybe. No, six hero minis between the villagers and 21 horde minis. So, yeah, we're going to 27 32 minis. Okay, cool. We're done. Hey, that's how easy it is. You just got to give me that number. Give me a nice number here and that helps. But instead, you just give me a lot. And the number's probably in there, but I got to sift. All right. So, 95 bucks to get the core game. If you just want this expansion, you're just
like, man, I really love that Oblivion's Embrace stuff. 59 49 this thing, which I didn't know we were talking about, but just But I'm assuming this is from the old one. The old the old I don't know. Cool. And then we got Oh, we got other stuff. Dice bags and dice trays. Are are these are the dice that much used in the game? like this just there's not too many games in the world that I say to myself, man, I really wish I had a dice tray or a dice bag for this game. Unless it's a lifestyle game, right? If it's a lifestyle game, it's a whole different beast. I don't think you are a lifestyle game. So, it's it's just it's nice. It's cool. That looks neat, but it's okay. Whatever. I don't know why I need that. All right. So, 43 people wanted just the base game. Yeah, because everybody's getting all three of them. Uh seven people got the Oblivion's Embrace. If you're like, you know what? I really don't want that third box. I've done my homework and I don't want it. Seven people. Good for you. You live within your means. I I And then we have the the all-in, I guess you'd call it. Uh 24.
That doesn't seem right. There's got to be more than 24 people because there's going to be another one. Oh, the real all in. That that's that's not the all in. That's that's right. Because we also have these two other boxes. So, I want to really spring on to you what they did here. On the main image, there is one box. It's that one that you can't even see. And then in the video, they're like, "Haha, actually, it's three boxes." And then you scroll down, YOU'RE LIKE, "HAHA, ACTUALLY IT'S five boxes." And it's like all all of a sudden you went in to pick up, I don't know, $60, $80 expansion. You're like, "$275, please, sir. We haven't got to shipping." O man, I just I I I don't feel like as a newcomer I am sold on this at all. That 7.8 did not do the heavy lifting that you were hoping it would do at all. I'm very unimpressed. As a returning fan, I guess I'd say I'm also very unimpressed unless this is like one of my favorite games of all time. Like cuz like and I think I think the huge disparity because because we always say your all-in pledge, your big deluxe all-in typically is going to sell seven to 10 times more than just your standard pledge, which in this case would be this one that has 43. They're all in pledge has 44.
That's Yeah, that's a sign of you not selling it very well. And and it's it's just it's hard to sell very well when you're just like and and then there's more stuff. And now look what else you're bundling in here. You're just bundling the crap, too. Like see this is expansion content that I quote unquote need if I'm a completionist. This is random crap. I Why do I need more dice? Why do I need premium attack dice? What are these? What What What's so special about these? The creator declares compliance with the general product. You don't even tell me. You're just like, "Hey, you got to have these premium attack dice. They're $28." Let's go back up. Did you sell me these dice? Have you even What? What do I What did I click? What in the world? What in the world? Okay. Did you even sell me these dice at all? Was that it?
Was that the selling of the dice? I don't think you did. I don't think you sold me these at all. Man, that is That is ugly. That is ugly. Okay. Yeah. So, I don't feel sold on the game. I don't feel sold on the price really because you like this is you have two places typically where you will find an impressive looking picture to sell you the game in here which you know cool always have it in there which they don't and then right around here. And you don't have them in either of them. So I bet you're going to do that cutesy thing where we scroll down. All right. New village board art, wooden influence tokens, new great art beast board, new classes, wooden trap boards, new class.
Oh, that's hot. Uh, and we've got new hero art and wood object token. Yeah, these these add-ons, these $28 dice, $18 great beast dice bag, a first player token for five bucks. What's in the box? Okay, so you got six minis. Cool. Six custom dice. So, six, six dice. Uh, scenario book, Hbook, four hero bags, clip rings, plastic markers, boards, uh, cards. How many cards got total? It look like a lot. 72, 102, 122. Okay, it's decent. 182. 210ish tokens. Monstrosity miniatures. Yeah, we got the big old miniatures. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
Yeah, I feel like you just got to slap me with some numbers here. And it's it's this is just industry standard, right? like 27 55 miniatures. We've unlocked stretch goals to get you blah blah blah. I feel more interweaving this in with the stuff up there because now it's just Yeah. Oh, hey, here's these other random things that we we we didn't mention in the description. We didn't mention in the video, but hey, at least maybe they did. I didn't see it, but I don't think they did. There's a lot of clever small things in this, and I love that. I love an an amalgamation of small clever things that makes the entire package feel fresh. From the Dice Tower. Sincerely, all my games have come. This text is very bad. They should zoom in or change or do something because it's it just looks it looks weird and pixelated.
Uh it's not a dealbreaker, but it's just like I don't I don't feel like this is the best text unless you enlarge it a little bit. All my games. So, coming down to the wire generally, you really have to walk the tight rope and keep the town safe while also pushing your objectives. Uh so, you're talking about the game. Are you talking about the expansion or about the base game? Wait a minute. It didn't feel Oh, how to Oh, but it's a how to play with Becca Spot.
We're slay.
But it's a 15minute one. Typically her how to plays I've found in the past are not particularly useful. They're like, "All right, let's go find a different how to play or get to the rule booklet, which feels like defeats the purpose." However, that one at 15 minutes, that one looks promising. Uh, we got a bunch of videos here. Cool. Timeline. Neat. Shipping. What do we got here? 40 bucks for the allin. Uh, 17. So, in and out the door. If you just want that that box that they showed on the front, you're paying $100 and $12. Am I right? That doesn't feel great at all. Oh boy. And it's just it's it's this picture like all the pictures of this look like garbage. They just look like trash at selling me it. You just keep showing me the box. Show me the long sexy scrolling shot that just has all the components and and they thought this would do it and it doesn't. It just looks like a huge cluster. Maybe it's that that one isn't even like that's a great shot that should be on the all-in one or the deluxe one. I don't know.
I'm just having a hard time seeing the value. And maybe it's just I'm not feeling the hype for the game. It's also the fact that there's not even a pledge here for the for returning backers because this is not a standalone expansion. I don't think is it
expansion and reprint. So where's the reprint? I guess is my question. Oh, is this the No, this is is one of these the original base game? I don't even know. This is This is so confus. Okay. So, aberration. What's that box look like? Oh, that's the game. Oh, okay. Now I understand. So, why do you just have a picture of your base game box in the front when you're trying to sell me five other boxes? I don't know. Let's see how highly rated this is. Oh, 8,450. And that's what I'm saying you right there. Like some people will be like, "Oh, 7.8." And I'd be like, "Yeah, what's that Board Game Geek rating?" And they'll be like, "88450." you know, be like, "Oo, I bet those rule booklets are rough. I bet that rule booklet isn't great." Like, you go to the 8450 slot and that's where you shake out. You're going to have games that generally have at least one or two big flaws.
Um, more misses than hits. Not to say that this isn't somebody's favorite game and a great game and all that other stuff, but it's just if you shake it around 8,000, most people are pretty much just saying, you know, I don't know if it was really worth the time and the effort, especially if you're only going to play it once. at least is my general consensus around that area. So that is actually cool. So let's go look at these pledges then and see how many new people they got. So this is the base game. This is the core game. So you So you literally have 43 people buying the core game. Okay, just the core game. And then you have seven people buying the core game plus the expansion. And you have 24 people buying most of and then you Okay. Why do these pledges look off to me? Okay. So, is this what's the name of this expansion again? Jesus. Oblivion's Embrace is this expansion. Okay, cool.
Now I'm clear. And then this is So, there's two expansions. Got it. But there's not actually two expansions because you also have these mini expansions which are apparently new. You just kind of threw them in there. And you have all this crap too, which once again, you haven't sold me on those dice at all. I I don't see why those are $28 dice. There is nothing you have sold me at all on those dice. Those dice annoy the living snot out of me. Like I don't know why those are $28. You don't even tell me the materials of these dice. It makes me angry. And this is what you get, right? Because at the end of the day, this is No, it's it's the Why do all of YOUR PLEDGES HAVE YOUR base game in it? What are you doing? THAT'S IT. THAT'S WHY IT looks so dumb. There's not a pledge for returning backers at all. What? What are you doing?
I was like I I've been RACKING MY BRAIN. WHY does this area look so weird? And that's because there's not just a Hey, you loved a aberration. Oh, you're here just for the new goodies? No. Like, are you so unconfident in your game that you don't even How is that? This is a This is a first. I think this is legitimately a first where I have gone to check out an expansion of a base game and all the pledges had the original base game in them. You are forcing all of your returning backers to do the $1 add-on level, right? Or buy another copy of the game. What are you thinking?
That is so insanely perplexing. And now I look at these numbers and I say, "Wait, wait, wait. There's onlyund there's only like 116 people backs. Where's the other 500 backers? Do they have some sort of early bird or something here? Like, yeah, 45 plus 24 plus 7 plus 43 most definitely does not equal 684, which means they had some sort of early bird. That early bird popped off and now like why can't it like at least show me the play? Okay, we're going to find out more about this in the comments and FAQs, but that's a full point grade bump down. As a fan of your game, if I come in here right now, there is not a pledge level for me. False or true. I believe that is true.
And I believe that is just an absolutely atrocious decision. I'd also interweave and sprinkle some of those quotes throughout. All right, let's check out the FAQ up updates comments. Let's give this one a grade. We're funded two days ago. We did it. It's officially funded. Oh, LeBron Cleveland, thank you so much to everyone who's back the campaign and helped us reach expect to see LeBron. I love it. Your support means so much to our team. We're critically grateful to have such amazing community behind this. Uh, what are people saying? GG. I wait for the language update. Localization preparation was not good at all. All the retail stores sold. I saw got the core box for pre-order. Nothing else. No expansions, no add-on. Will we get a French version? Okay, check out the comments. I watched a lot of reviews and all of them so far. The game doesn't allow you to upgrade your character enough where it ends. just is getting fun with upgrades. It ends. Have there any changes to solve with the reprint?
Yes, likely bumped to a four from a 3.5. Oh, wow. That's Alex in there. What in the world is he also working? Okay. Yes, saw that on a few also seems to be a fairly important issue. Uh sponsored concerts to take with a grave soul. Oh, he's in there doing that. That's a service that I should offer too. Should be like, hey. Uh most by far my favorite game ever was that playthrough for the first time. I truly felt like I had to build my character. That's just game two. So, Alex, thanks for commenting here. Do you feel you're ready to the game? Uh, blah blah blah. Upgraded player bags. Are they sold individually in a set of four for those with the deluxe base game expansion for the original run? Does it all fit in one box? Unfortunately, no, it does not all fit. EU. The rat pack doesn't include the new meeples. The Arata pack. Arrat pack. Where's the rat pack? It does. They confirmed it earlier. The graphic might not show them that I missed it somehow. I missed it completely. Where is this erratic pack we speak of? Is it in the add-ons?
Uh, okay. So, that was I I mean I hate to use the word dumb, but I don't hate to use the word dumb, so I will use the word dumb. That's This is dumb. Like, this is something you lean into. I know people are like, "Oh, that means like because it showcases you screwed up, but it showcases you fixing it. That's such a wild like I I feel like there are pledges that are just missing from here and we have such an incomplete picture of this campaign and I'm I'm going to check and see is there early bird. Is there early bird? Just type in bird. Go to bird. There's no nobody typed in early. Where are all the pledges then? I hate the fact the game found hides them. 40 50 cuz that's 74. Oh, yeah. It's 10 and something. Or is it Oh, no.
Is it just people backing for a dollar? They all had to go it through the add-on system, which in that case, I mean, that sucks. Like, I'm just shocked that no one's mentioned it. I I need to go all the way to the bottom because it's surely someone has mentioned it. Uh, received. Is there a reason to get the expansions on the website rather than combined here? When should the discount code for returning backers be respected between via mailed? Uh, why is stretch only showing four installments? I love that you guys give the previous backers the returning champion bundle, but I wish you would give us the choice of not having the upgraded dice or upgraded player bag. It's not something I'm interested in. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, we got to go through the updates here. I want to see what they did. The hidden pledge update. Whoa.
I kind of like hidden I You know what? I don't like hidden pledges. I kind of do like them though. I don't know. Let's see how they did it. Information on our hidden returning champions pledge. If you are one of our returning champions, meaning you have either previously backed our original aberration campaign, sorry, using this counter set through proof blah blah blah. What exactly is the returning champion pledge includes? Uh, yeah. All the stuff that you need. Oh, but you bundled in. Ew. You better give me a dang good price if you're going to bundle in my Arata pack with some crap I don't want. Attack dice in your player bags. Shove it. That's right. This pack only includes the new products for this campaign, meaning you won't be spending your money on items you already own.
Are you expecting us to pat you on the back? This is what everyone does. except people don't hide it. So, let's see why you hit it. There's one item, however, that is exclusive to this pledge here, and that's the pack. This pack includes upgraded or revamped components from the new reprint edition of the Aberation Core game that wasn't present in our original. What exactly? Yeah, this is 1,000% what Kickstarter backers want to see. Okay, we know that you make a big freaky game, there's probably going to be some mistakes in the rule book clip. I hope there's not. There really shouldn't be. You should have blind play tested it better, yada yada yada. But we are accustomed to that. You turning around and fixing it.
That's a great thing. And so it's it's so surprising to me that they're not spotlighting this pack level more. And it it partially just makes me wonder if they just don't want people seeing them forcing their old customers to buy their stupid dice bags and dice that once again you haven't sold to me at all pretty much. All right. This package includes upgraded or revamped components. What exactly does this include? Shipping information. Why? What I need? Okay. What if I don't have the original miniatures expansion? We've heard your feedback. So, we wanted to address this and give you a solution. As you can see, the Corbox will be offered as a standalone pack during this campaign. Let's see what people are saying. Maybe these people are thrilled and I'm just not getting it. This was a poor approach in my opinion. Okay, maybe not. I just want the new gameplay and updated rule books book. You're asking returning backers who made this game possible to spend a whole lot more on things they may not necessarily want.
Not a good look. Should I? Should I? I don't care. I DON'T CARE. I DON'T CARE. I'VE DONE THIS SE I've done this segment 1,200 times and you are the only company who has handled it this way. So I feel like this should be the only time until there's more times where I handle myself and I'm even going to give myself a thumb. I don't care. Sell me the dice if you don't want me to mock them. I'd be happy to buy the arata pack, but the rest does not interest me in the slightest. Yeah, I just I would love if I could fix I I I 100% get this opinion because here are the two options since the Arata pack is not an add-on because you decided that you were not going to make it an add-on. You had this active decision.
You know what people wanted and you decided nah, instead we're going to do it this way. You either a go away, don't buy the arata pack, get wrecked, or you're buying everything. Everything. Our dice, our two small box expansions, our one large box expansion, and of course, our expansion that already has an expansion and two small box expansions and our dice B. Like, like, it's just a bad bad look. I suck at this. I have not yet completed all scenarios from the base game, so I'm not looking for an expansion right now. But the Arata pack should be offered as a standalone add-on for returning backers. Yep, it's so deeply ingrained in industry standard that you have to be intentionally not looking at it to see it. I'm really looking forward to the expansion. It seems to improve on some important notes, but it would need a significant discount to justify the massive shipping prices. They didn't feel great. Agree. The coupon code for returning backers does not even cover the shipping cost for a miniature box.
There will be a 35 plus 45 equals 80 in just shipping cost for delivery to Sweden. I'd rather see the coupon code did removing uh more than that. If I add everything regularly, I'm at $94 without the dice. So, as a returning backer, I got two free dice and higher shipping than most pledges. Is that why the dice have the massive $28 price tag? So, the discount looks big. Oh boy, I have been punching at those dice all afternoon and now it's like, yeah, okay, that does make a lot of sense why you felt the need to make your stupid looking dice $28 and not then not even spotlight them at all. Like you don't even show me multiple sides of the face. You're just like, custom engraved dice. Yeah, I see those a lot. Feel like I'd be better off with just the expansion in a $1 rat pack like other projects did in the past.
Industry standard. I already own the upgraded fire, stun, and damage wood tokens for the first campaign. So, this statement, that's right, this pack includes only new products for the campaign, meaning you won't be spending your money on items you already own, is not entirely true. I appreciate the effort anyways, and I understand that you have to include it. So, this person is Oh, that's that's a Yeah, that's a big one, too. I already have your upgraded fire, stun, and damage wooden tokens. I don't need more of them. Yeah, this is why we look at the industry standard and say, "Yeah, maybe we just copy that." All right. So, uh, we were in here. I have confused Fox bags to store character boards in. Why would I want store character boards? They're quite big in the bags. It's a good question.
All right. Anyh who, final grade. Do I want it? Yeah, I do. It's been oh so long since I was actually enjoying the video, but the video was well done, right? Like it was nicely made. It showcased the components. It looked fun. I thought you were showing me the Yeah, whatever. Do I want it? Yes. Can you do it? Also, firm yes. Well, I had two projects before this. One of which is not shipped out, but it's a card game for the most part. Uh, and they have $131,000 to do this. Now, that being said, that $131,000 is being spread across a lot because this is many, many SKUs is what they call them. Uh because you have three boxes here. You have the two smaller boxes, you have the dice bag, you have the custom dice, you have uh the upgraded tokens. You got a lot going on here. But the end of the day, $131,000, and they're hoping that this is going to be their residual cash cow, their evergreen, so to speak. So, can you do it? I'll give them the nod. And then, how much is it? It has not felt good at any part of the I guess.
Here's what I'll say. No, no, it hasn't felt good at any part of the process. Just period. I guess maybe No, no, I can't I can't say that at all because here's what it is. There's essentially three pledges here. There's a pledge for $112 to get yourself the 8,456 rated board game that's getting reprinted, right? And we fix the rules now. Okay? Like, and those are just cold hard numbers. I hate to be that guy, but part of the appeal of Gamefound, of Kickstarter, of Indiegogo, is the appeal of the unknown, of this is going to be great. This is going to be the next Arc Nova or Wingspan or whatever it may. Scythe is a better example because that was that one was actually crowdfunded. You get what I'm saying? And when you know going in that it's this flawed game at 8,400 and and I'm sure I could go through all the rules and figure out exactly why what what didn't tick with people and you improve it and you say, "All right, yeah, we're going to massively improve this." Let's say they bump up 3,000 spots on on the board game geek list in the second edition. That's still a top 5,000 rated game for $112.
And I don't feel like you showcased your components. Well, yeah. Yeah. I also am kind of curious. I'd love to see your new rule booklet, right? Like the fact that you had to have an Arata the first time around means that yeah, you should be pounding your chest a little bit more about, hey, we got to we have much improved rules. Like that's honestly how would it have leaned into that. I would have went through those reviews and I would have picked out the ones where they talked about how much the rule booklet sucked. And I'm sure they're not hard to find. I'm sure they're not just with this style of game. I'm just banking on it. And then talk about how you improved it drastically in the second edition. How we're hooking our backers up with the rat pack. There were so many good things to lean into and instead you hit it and it just looks bad. It looks bad to everybody. I go through these numbers. I say, "Oh, this looks bad. How many people took the deluxe pledge?" You say, "47." I say, "What? 47 people took the deluxe pledge? Excuse me?" And and it's just Oh. So, do I want it? Yes. Can you do it? Yes. How much is it? No. And then your pledges don't look good and they're confusing and their whole I'm just going to go with the whole point bump down for the whole everything about the pledges and the price and you hiding things and you forcing people to buy your stupid dice and potentially artificially inflating the cost of your dice or not like those are the $28 dice right there.
Like try not to faint. So, final grades all over the board is a I want to look at one thing real quick. I want to see what the most consistent comments are in the ratings when people are r Wow, 24 people gave it a 10. Okay, most people did level off at an eight. That's really good. Uh either way, I've just stolen. Uh I'm the And it's hard. I'm the target market for this game. And I'm like, yeah, I don't like I feel like you're really you're really pulling my leg to back here. And then also at the same time, yeah, like that that game looks good. Oh, like that's a good shot. Like that. Say that. Oh, that's a $95 game. See, that's $95 plus $17 shipping. I'd buy I' like that. I don't have a problem with that one. But I don't feel like we ever really get that shot here. We just get a bunch of shots that look like good stuff, but they're just so lumped together that I just don't feel like Yeah, I'm going to go with a C minus D plus range.
Not showcasing your new rule booklet scares me. Not showcasing your new rule booklet for your expansion scares me. The original rating of the game scares me. The fact that you're hiding something that nobody else hides scares me. That was just a weird one. But that being said, final. Yeah, I think it's a C minus D plus range. I'm going to go with um Do we have stretch goals? Did we? Yeah, we did. I just forgot about them. Oh, they Yeah, like I would spruce up this area. I would spruce up the main image. I would I Yeah, I'm gonna go with a D+. C I'm gonna go C minus.
Nah, D plus. At least I know where your dice are being manufactured. They're being manufactured in Australia. Maybe that's why they're $28. I can't imagine that it's it's going to be cheaper to Okay. Yeah, I'm a D+. This project just feels like weird and not in a good way. Let me know in the comments what was your photograph for Aberation Oblivion's Embrace expansion and reprint.
