hey y'all it's time for another episode of rolling Dice and taking names we are all wiped out because we just finished moving our son's family from Florida to Georgia in this episode the guys cover compile path of civilization Sunrise Lane and mind map have fun recording Marty because I'm going to take another nap hello and welcome to episode hold on let's try that again hello and welcome to Rolling DIYs and taking names this is episode 323 maps and legends I'm exhausted well exhausted I'm feeling much better to than our last recording I'm working I'm going on 3 hour sleep here 3 hour sleep why because I did not get home until 1:30 and then got up at 5 you know you can sleep in you don't always have to oh I would love to sleep in if I was not in the process of coming back from a very what's the right adjective to use for the move I just did well first off you didn't hurt anything that's a positive I'm assuming I don't know my back is pretty okay let's just back all the way up so my son and his wife are moving from Jacksonville Florida to Carolton Georgia okay hey we want to go help the move fine okay sounds good hey Let's do let's do that move the first weekend of uh June got it we're good oh wait a minute no it needs to be the

weekend of Memorial Day got it we'll get a way to board our dog Taz done Thursday night you know what move is not going to happen Ah that's all right Council boarding Taz we'll do it the first weekend of June got it Friday oh guess what we have to move into the new place by Thursday can you come up this weekend and move us okay hey boarding house can we can we board TI again yes we can okay awesome all right cool we'll come up Sunday so we drive 5 and a half hours down to Jacksonville on Sunday now his wife just had a baby and she had a C-section so obviously no lifting or anything so she's she's chilling she's just telling us what to do they've done a lot of packing already but there's a lot of packing to be done so all Sunday night we're packing stuffing boxes wrapping Etc Monday morning uh 9:00 a.m. uh rolls around to go get the truck so we go get a 20ft U-Haul okay that's a good that's a good size not too overbearing not easy to drive now my other Sons uh Brett and Travis are there good and we start loading up this U-Haul but in the process stuff still hasn't been fully packed yet so inside Vanessa's and everybody's packing moving packing moving packing moving into the truck and this goes on until about 11:30 12:00 at night and then they have to clean the house oh yeah however our goal all along was to travel halfway to Carolton which is 6 hours away and spend the night somewhere somewhere halfway mhm that is still the plan so Marty gets in the 20ft truck hold on

hold on wait a minute so this is Monday night I want to do a timeline here right Monday night yeah so this is Monday night so and you're leaving late enough that you've missed all the Memorial Day traffic I I w't point that out to everybody because Memorial Day and you're coming from a beach resort area going Inland so for those who aren't familiar with the East Coast Marty is basically in the throngs of Memorial Day traffic and I remember a u marriage with children where they went on it was either Labor Day or more Memorial Day and they just sat on the Jersey Turnpike or somewhere I don't know not worth $5 to anybody so I when you told me you were doing this I was envisioning you sitting in a truck on 95 or 26 or 20 wherever you were trying to get to Carolton I'm sorry for interrupting so Marty's in a truck driving TW on Monday night after Memorial Day heading towards Carolton where he's going to spend the night in a hotel but I've got a feeling where this is going by the way good point about the um Memorial Day traffic which is why we traveled on Sunday because yes going down 95 to Jacksonville on Friday or Saturday would have been horrible so we did miss the traffic on Sunday so again we drive up Sunday morning get there Sunday afternoon work all day next day we're packing the truck go to at midnight night I say you know driving this Beast is going to be the pain me and Travis are hopping in the truck and we're heading towards whatever Town we're

staying in in Georgia three hours away I just found a place somewhere halfway point uh side side night hold on this is the son who doesn't really care to drive oh I'm driving the thing by myself I know so you you loaded up Travis in this truck who doesn't like to drive so that okay I'm I'm I'm not understanding the logic here big boy so he's navigating okay he's nav so where's Google yeah this thing had huh where's Google well he's navigating with the phone he's helping me out okay okay it's pitch black at night so he's the one that's like you know take this SE here take this ex here this this is a U-Haul truck there's no fancy USB ports or anything there's nothing in this this is a stripped down truck and Grandpa can't see as well at night anymore uh no I'm still okay at night you are that is one thing that's get to me yeah the glare mhm okay well glare has always gotten me because I wear contact lenses anybody that wears contacts you know that you just kind of get used to it after a while we'll never get through this story because I am intrigued you are intrigued so we're starving we've had nothing to eat pretty much all day we're eating snack food out of the pantry before we throw it into the trash can just to get something to eat now this is this is obviously I'm not even going to all the trips to Walmart multiple times for boxes and more bubble bubble wrap and tape multiple trips doing that so all this is dur during the place of this this Monday so we take off Vanessa said okay I'm going to finish cleaning I'll be right behind you and

hour and a half later Vanessa gets in the car with Brett to start heading towards me Travis and I are starving I said look what's open he said well you know Taco Bell stays open till 2: a.m. I said yes it does it does stay open till 2: a.m. so we're Trucking along we're going to start looking for a Taco Bell as we're listening to the really bad radio in the truck a emergency broadcast this the morning comes over and says hey if you're in the area of vasta or whatever it is in Georgia there's a massive storm coming with high winds and R oh you're in a big truck where are we're going and he said I think we're going there he said I said can you pull up the radar TR said I think we may miss it I said cool so I'm driving down and all of a sudden I felt like a Mac Truck hit us in the side a gust of wind came and hit that truck and drove me to the side of the road whipped it back on to the road wind comes from the other side whips me to the other side it starts pouring rain it's like oh my gosh and say but wait a minute it just so happens look there's a Taco Bell exit let's okay we'll go take this is where we'll stop and we'll gas up and over the wing we'll pass over so I get up to the drive-thru I look at the truck and it says okay this truck says it has 11 foot clearance oh no I think that's 11t that awning right there I think we're good so let's pull up and order us some Taco Bell so so I pull start pulling up to the speaker for the drivethru and I hear I had the window roll down and Ladi say can I take your order I said hold on

just a second put it in reverse and I look at the awning that I had lifted up off the pole and it laid back down after I had done that I said okay that's not going to work trash said this ain't worth it I said well hold on we got to go get gas we're right beside a gas station so we get gas and and the rain starts dying down so I said look we've made this trip I'm having Taco Bell right now so now I pull up to the drive-thru but now I just pull about 5 ft away and I open the window and start screaming at the speaker to take my order and I get that and I pull up to the drive-through window jump out because there's an awning under the drive-thru window jump out of the truck go get my order run back through the rain get in was good taco about they did a really good job so I appreciated that we get to the destination that is now 3ish in the morning mhm we said all right we're going to bed Vanessa comes in about an hour and a half or so later and uh so she gets to sleep and come to find out Adam and his wife Lissa were still struggling getting everything packed away so they did not meet us there instead they stayed at a hotel about an hour and a half away all right so we're getting up Tuesday morning now let's keep all this in mind I know this is a super long story we have to be back Tuesday night because everybody has to go to work the next day MH so we hop in the truck in the morning we're 3 hours away from our destination we get there Adam was so far behind us luckily he called the office and said look uh can you give them the key so they can start

un loading we went a bunch of Rigo I'm leaving out so many details it was it was just actually tragic um we finally got all the process to where we could get the key so now we're unloading um this truck and we just unload unload and load and load and load Adam doesn't get there till like 5:30 a.m and uh pm. PM oh my pm he was that far behind because they packed up all the diapers and wet wipes and didn't realize they had so then they had to go to Walmart and they had to buy more diapers and wipes and with the young baby if you don't know the breastfeeds they need to feed very frequently so there was a lot of stopping and feeding and stopping and feeding and stopping and feeding so they were 5 and 1 half hours behind us anyway so it took them that long that's just how far the they were away so get the truck unloaded it is now 7 7:30 at night and I tell Adam I said we got to go Vanessa's like no we got to stay we got to help him set up I said Vanessa we got to go because we have a 5 and 1 half hour drive back to Charlotte so we hop in the car we get back at the house at 1:30 a.m. I wake up at 5:00 and I feel like I got hit by a Mac Truck today okay all right cool actually you drove one well I'm glad it was an experience these are stories these are stories that you will hold over his head for a while not that you would do that and I'm saying you you would but I'm I would I'm say shoot yeah well I know this I already told

everybody I said look I know for myself I'm going to start saving money right now I ain't ever moving again I ain't ever moving myself again no some I'll paying somebody to come in and pack up this house and load it up and here's the thing I know everybody's helped a friend helped a family member y'all know how hard it is when you go and move somebody out of a house it's brutal mhm it is and it's a big game of Tetris right with the truck it's like wedge this in here this here pivot pivot try to get it in there I mean it's kind of like when I drove you know the truck Rebecca's a 26-footer from Charlotte to Tulsa Oklahoma and then I drove it the other time the 24f footer from Tulsa to Washington DC and and it's just like I understand college kids young kids they don't but with you for me this supply and demand how how much I'm willing to move and versus what I'm willing to pay I it's really changed a lot you know I'm yeah M exactly yeah I'm with you I'm with you so there is one good thing we got out of this so one of the most popular places to eat in Carlton's a place called the brown dog which is actually right beside their apartment oh nice and it was freaking amazing I said we're going here for lunch and I got a Southern Burger that comes with Min a cheese a fried green tomato which I left off I'm not a big fried fried green tomato fan apple butter mhm a pepper jelly it was an amazing Burger I got as a side homemed

cheese grits which were absolutely stinking amazing amazing and for dessert y'all get this for dessert moon pie banana pudding nice in Stella of vanilla wafers it's crumbled up moon pie and banana pudding oh man was so good yeah I'm I'm sitting here Googling Brown do I didn't mention the barbecue sauce I saw your cheer wine shirt that you got on they used cheer wine sauce and a lot of their stuff so the Burger also had like cheer wine barbecue sauce on it okay well hey you got a good meal out of all this you're tired understand so you know last time we went straight into games so we didn't do that so here's the thing I may I may be a little bit flighty like I may not be able to speak clearly or have C okay so that's just like every other episode never mind people won't people won't be able to tell I mean so basically we 322 jumped right into games 323 we're back to normal uh well yeah well okay yes but that that is the last anecdote now we do have tons of just show and game stuff coming up first hey y'all if you missed it I put in a little Easter egg in the last episode at the very end of the episode I asked hey is anybody listening to this if so email us DM me or whatever and if you do and say you heard this little announcement you'll be entered in a contest for a gift card to Miniature Market well Tony some stuff started coming in but not a lot a lot of people didn't get that far because as of right now looking at the downloads that we had and the number of

entries 2% of the people who listened to the episode entered if you entered you had a good shot at winning a gift card to menure Market I was going to say this is some of the best gift card uh chances for these people right here and a big shout out to Jerry Kevin Ambi I mean you know Ed Peter oh you ain't got to go through the entire list it'd be shorter than your story but which is a good it's a good story by the way so yeah you made a comment about the Cher Wine Festival shirt well I did go to the Cher Wine Festival in North Carolina and I followed your advice I took the shuttle over and like you like you smart one and done baby one and done it was worth going to was like I don't need to go it what do you feel it was even worth going okay here's the thing I mean it is an experience but it's like anything else where you're walking out on the street where there's a whole bunch of vendors selling food with long lines right and they did an a great job an amazing job of you know spreading this out so you didn't feel so claustrophobic with people out there but based on the volume of people it's just hard you could you could add another 100 vendors to this place and you still wouldn't have enough it was just that full and my favorite thing was you would think that cheer wine the drink born in the Carolina no that's Pepsi cheer wine still the only family-owned uh Pepsi U drink manufacturer in the US would have had signs on the various vendors

promoting cheer wine sauce cheer wine this cheer wine that no these vendors didn't have any of that and I'm just like you had to go up when you got there to the menu do you have the cheer wine stuff no he does down there I'm like put a sign out did you try anything with the cheer wine barbecue sauce ye yes but I don't know if it was their Cher wine or you know the one that's manufactured like you're talking about they may have just made barbecue sauce and put a spritz of Cher wine and they could call at cheer wine barbecue sauce but yeah one and done we did it glad we did it but I don't need to do it again did you try any of the cheer wine drinks I know you don't drink beer but there was a a beer my boys tried that was actually pretty good no the minute we got there we got the right when it opened so I stood in line for 20 minutes to get my shirt yep I could have gone online ordered it and I bought a bottle of cheer wine I said I'm here I might as well drink a cheer wine and you know I was just like okay I'm good let's let's go walk around see things I felt sorry for this one lady she had Cheerwine cupcakes and all this other but she was off the beaten path she had 500 cupcakes and had so close to 10 I'm like I'm like well you still got some time 6 hours good luck fck you know who is the band I didn't know I didn't stay they Don goes have you had I know but they advertised the band I know if you saw who it was I didn't see I just basically didn't care since we weren't staying in Donas have you had enough I said oh yeah she goes that was obvious I'm she goes you're getting grumpy in your old age I'm like I'm sorry no even

Vanessa after it was over she said I don't need to do that anymore and she does everything MH so yeah anyway it was good all right here's the big thing here's the big announcement that we have been sitting on for uh months it is time y'all for to just talk about the big strike tournament that's going to be happening at jcon this year uh we have said when it was it's Thursday night 7:00 Old Spaghetti Factory except right now is at the release of this episode you can now go purchase tickets for this event you can at the time we're recording this that form is not up yet but hopefully by the time this is released it will be if you go over to www. byy me a MoonPie or buy meac coffee.com rtn on there you're going to be a see a see a place to get the ticket it'll also be in the show notes I'll put it if you look in the show notes and the timestamp for the strike tournament that link will take you strict where you can purchase a ticket so Tony why don't you give us some of the details about uh the ticket how much it costs and we'll get into all the goodies that they get I know it cost 25 I wanted to bring you on the conversation I'm tired it's $25 the so you'll be paying $25 to attend a dinner strike tournament there will be giveaways as always uh old Old Spaghetti Factory at um right down from the convention center as Mari said starting at 700 p.m. try to now they will not let us back there until right before and I will check you at the door but

definitely go to the front of it they do an amazing job there to get us in so what does that include that includes a salad it includes a choice of either lasagna or regular spaghetti if you have any uh Health restrictions they can take care of you they've done it in the past so be sure to um point that out to your waiter or weight staff as they come around that you need that they'll take care of you um and then it includes a um ice cream dessert it also will come with either tea or soft drink I'm saying this now CU they not going to mess this up it's no no alcohol no specialty drinks no milkshakes none of that this is all includes the salad the main course and the ice cream then you get to play strike while you're at the table and then we will continue the tournament throughout that night till we Crown a winner be it dice in the bowl or Gladiators in the arena now here are some of the nice you know things that could be happening out there with Robins bergger main sponsors here big announcement here Robins Berger reached out to us and said we really like what you guys doing are doing we want to sponsor this event and they are sponsoring it in a magnificent way every attendee will get a special strike tournament t-shirt specially designed by Robins bger as of this recording we haven't seen the graphic yet but they're working on it so what that means is when you buy a ticket we're going to have a

place where you can put the size of the shirt this is going to be unisex size shirt this also means that in the past you could buy a bulk number of tickets we can't do that anymore if you have five people in your party each person is going to have to sign up individually for a ticket and then put in their shirt size well they don't have to do it you can sign up for them you just need to know their yeah I'm just saying we in the past we allowed you to buy bulk tickets we can't do that now because now we know to need need shirt sizes of every single attendee so that we can get that to robinb so y'all that's something you that's something new everybody's going to get a a commemorative t-shirt for this event wooo go dice go Gladiators you going to say dice in the bowl I was I'm I'm tired too Donna Donna tweeted her like I had a tweet Nick Donna tweeted hers and she was waking up every hour last night so together this should be a great show next next this was super exciting too good games publishing who we talked about before Tony if you remember a few years ago one of their games Guild Master woo ja your game of the year Game of the Year still sitting on the shelf yep also you may know them from uh unfair which is a very popular game that they had Tony and I were big fans of the two-player game Land versus sea we covered that years ago but one of the highlights last year don't forget about too many too many cooks we talked about that one that's a great family game matter of fact that game has been moved

on from my house I've given it to a gentleman who has like five young kids they love playing it love playing too many cooks that's the real time game mhm yep yep one of our highlights was a game that we got to play last year at good games publishings booth that Tony and I saw we love trick taking games they have this western themed game called trick draw we got it talked about it in fact if you go back and listen to our Jing con episode from last year you hear us talk about it get this y'all good games publishing said we love what you guys were doing we had a great time last year we want to give every attendee a copy of trick draw so that's right for 2 $5 you're getting a meal you're getting the event you're getting a t-shirt you're getting a copy of trick draw and every year Miniature Market has also given something to every attendee they say they want to do the same thing we're working out the details of what that will be but it's another thing that everybody will get aend will get and we haven't mentioned this yet but we are working with synapsis games who is kind of relaunching the rallyman GT line of games they've created for us a set of rdn themed Racing cards that you can use in rallyman GT in fact in our next episode we're going to be talking about rallyman GT dirt we're going to hear more about that game question I haven't seen this this card yet I'm just curious if it's a squirrel do you try to run him over it'll be interesting to see what this promo card is Tony we have 80

tickets I have a feeling these are going to go pretty quick we're starting out with 80 tickets that's what we're going to start with if we have room for more we'll unlock more but as of right now 80 tickets will be available for sale so if you want them I think you might want to go out and grab them because I think uh I think Tony this is a really good deal we're talking a t-shirt what costs 15 20 bucks just by itself we know the meal is $25 on its own trick doll is like an $18 game that's a lot of value for just 25 bucks absolutely and then you get to see me and Marty then we have to offer a refund oh no oh man yeah but I'm excited for the Gen Con strike tournament I should get another championship ring this year you probably will I can't talk trash you know if if I was winning I could talk some trash but when you ain't winning yeah it's kind of hard talk to I mean all you got to do is you just point at the scoreboard I mean that's literally all you do and I shut up scoreboard I respect the scoreboard let's put it that way no trash talking can overcome the scoreboard you know we could have controlled signup if you had just put this in the outro what do you mean just like the people signing up for the uh contest oh I see I see oh and by the way as as always whenever you come in the door we want you to pick a side Gladiators in Arena dice in the bowl because you'll represent that that uh that team too when we come in so we're super excited

we got a lot of great sponsors that are going to be sponsoring the event in full not only that we also have a lot of Publishers that give us stuff for the giveaway at the end of night and we're excited we we're excited for good games publishing that stepped up Robins bergger stepped up and Miniature Market who just puts it in and does it for us every year that's right all right moving over to a game before we lose everybody so while you were doing moving across the great state of Georgia I personally I I had it rough friends of ours had rented a Airbnb up on Lake Norman which is the largest lake here in our area and their family had to cancel due to a sick baby and they said you know what we've got this great three-bedroom house right on the lake why don't y'all just come on up just you know we'll we'll split the dinners and things like that and we did so while you were having all these traumatic drama fied evenings I was you know just sitting floating in the lake or taking a nap on the deck with the Cool Breeze blowing over me so I feel your pain but at night we've got to play some games and one of them was my city roll and draw now I played my city we talked about it a while ago and that was the Legacy game where you're flipping cards over and you're having put the various pieces on the board to try not to cover up trees but cover up rocks and it progressed over to where you get to play um you know with a game board that you already created or they have these standard ones now my city roll and draw is exactly what it is you're going to roll three Dice and based on the shape

two of the dice form it could be an L it could be a c it could be a square it could be two blocks you will then color in your sheet to indicate where those are basic rules apply when you start out you put one next to the river everyone after that has to be adjacent to an already marked space on the board so this was a very quick rolling draw for the my city so if you like my city and you want to take a smaller version hey this might scratch the itch especially if you enjoy uh roll and draws and you know everybody enjoyed it now one thing that was unique Marty about this game was the fact that as you progress through the various pths now some people may not like this just like in the my city Legacy the rules are changing as you go through the pad so the boards are changing okay so once you're it's not like it's always the same thing there's various chapters new rules get introduced so if you're used to that from the my city Legacy side of it then you will be used to this definitely to you know take off you know order up additional copies of the scor pad or scan it and print it out yourself so that was my city Rolland draw was that from Cosmos yes I was just looking at it uh have it on in Market it's actually out of stock it's only like a $15 game yeah matter of fact we saw it when we were in Spain and they picked it up so there were no English rules so I went online and uh got the English rules so I was like I said I'll buy this I enjoy these types of games they said no no no no let us do it and it was great that it played up to six

mhm awesome awesome one last thing in our intro and I thought this was pretty cool so our good friend Jerry Roose has been a friend of the show for quite a long time did a statistical analysis on our show so you know all of our episodes start with an episode or is named after a song title and we've been doing this we weren for sure how long Jerry said you know what I'm gonna give you guys some stats so I don't know did he manually go through this how did he do this he went through and probably either looked at the splash page or the splash images to grab them or he went back and grabbed each start and if he did that's why you owe the man something I know you got empty Pockets but we G Jerry we GNA take care of you you know that all right so here we go uh of the three uh as of when he did these stats of the 322 episodes we've done 262 have used song titles as the title of the show so we've been doing for quite a while the first episode to ever use a song title was number 16 and it was L as of Battlefield by Pat benitar Uh the next one was uh number 18 which was No Parking On The Dance Floor by midnight star and then it's it's funny he did listen to this because in this he quotes you saying we promise this will be the last song reference we use for naming of our podcast okay let me restate that to say we will best do our best to refrain from using song

references on our episode title who am I kidding I'm sure Marty and I will do it again for another 260 times yes we will and that's that was the start of it and I for I mean it was just something fun to do and instead of trying to come up with catchy names it was like let's just use song titles and so we can't went back to it I can't believe he did this then we went back to it and in episode 23 we apologized for actually using a song title again called that smell from Leonard Ard mhm and then it was long after that starting at episode 28 every pretty much every episode after that was named after a song right now I used to have a spreadsheet where I would keep track of all that I gave up on that maybe two years ago cuz I didn't want to keep repeating what's funny is that you know when he goes into about how we repeated and we always said you know we've probably repeated a bunch of these we've been doing the show for 12 years he said actually only 10 songs were repeated what was funny was one of the shortest time SP spans was Fortress Around Your Heart by stinging was within six episodes one another we didn't remember that we had used it but what's funny is what song titles were reused All My Rowdy Friends was reused now here's the thing happy anniversary makes sense because I even still to this day on our uh anniversary episode I have that song at the very beginning so it's kind of unofficially the title of that episode anyway um I Can't Drive 55 which would be good for our next racing um episode so we

probably need to find something else instead of that I'll be there for you which is the friends thing Lonely People by America was used twice all these were used twice Money for Nothing Pinball Wizard Rock mamadas wow the fact that we pulled that one off twice well the one for 268 makes sense because we did the Mozart game oh yeah yeah yeah yeah so and I forget why 61 I didn't go back and look at it Jerry you should have given me that note and then wed d live now this is also interesting too the most common band was the Beatles but and as Jerry corre correctly said here Chaz Marlo used to appear on our show a lot and it got to the running gag thing where it was always whenever he was on we used to Beetle song but if you take that away here's the most used bands through the rest of the episodes Queen song six times David Bowie 5 huie Lewis in the News 4 Iron Maiden four I'm proud of you Iron Maiden that's nice Rolling Stones four and sticks four hey and then this one maps and legends by RM deep cut very deep cut but it is I have no clue what that is yeah yeah um it is a but it fits for what we're going to be talking about fits very well so when I typed in Google give me a song about maps maps and legends I'm like boom there it is and I know I haven't used it and Jerry also sent us the spreadsheet so maybe we can just keep adding to it and keep the stats from here on out already done nice nice all

collecting set collection I like the limit of five cards because in Ticket to Ride people just swarm their hands with cards and then when you put down lay your track or lay your trains down there you've got to match that color of cards to the the track that's on the board here it's just match the color of the city block to the color of the cards and the more you play like you were saying with the buildings the more points you're going to score for instance say say you're going to put down three purple cards and there are three dots there you put down three houses 3 * three that's nine even I can do that math also it's also helps with your multiplication yes it does but you're not out of card yet you can then put let's say you've got the next color to that because one of the sticking rules is you always have to build adjacent to the one that you start with mhm another option you have you can also put in let's say I don't have that color next but I have the one following it well once per your turn you can put a park down to cover that tile up and jump to the next one and play that card that matches the color of that block in-game scoring you know scoring um majorities and all that fun stuff I just got lost and and putting up cute little buildings around and didn't pay a whole lot of attention to that well you should have because there's four quadrants in this neighborhood two of the quadrants are going to score on who has the tallest building in those neighborhoods the other two quadrants on score will score on who had the longest line of buildings uh contiguous run of buildings what I

like to call the longest wall you know I used to always say whoever has the points given for the longest wall this actually has it this time around so it can actually claim that it has it so either you're going for long runs of your buildings or tall buildings and the other ones so at the end you're going to score each of those quadrants person the most points wins to be honest with you Mar when we were playing this I didn't get a big strong strategy going with me but that's I I I don't think I was grasping it very well I knew I I wanted to maximize the cards in my hand with the dots hoping that you would leave me a place because you always have to build adjacent to another building except at the beginning where there's a Central Square right right so you're you're trying to think okay how do I manage to get those maximum points do I go ahead and get rid of some cards in my hand build things out long and then put buildings on it so the strategy you know it didn't grab me at first for this game I felt like okay I was just doing a a lot of card collecting and dropping some buildings and I was limited based on the cards I had I was looking at the weight rating on BGG and I don't know how this is calculated but out of five it's a 1.53 so it's not a very complicated game at all which the good part about this is this is going to be for either Gamers like us who just want a quick filler type game or for maybe family members and stuff that don't play a lot of games because like you said it does have some ticket to Rish feel to it but it's a game that maybe you actually maybe it'll pick up quicker than Ticket to Ride and play a lot shorter oh yeah definitely play a lot shorter that's that's that's

a big positive you you can fly through this game there is some strategy well you just said you didn't have any strategies so now there is strategy I didn't pick up on it I didn't pick up on it but the strategy of the parks being able to maybe maybe you don't have those cards that your buildings next to but you don't want someone else to so don't forget about being able to place a park so if there's like a five pip location there that you're building sitting next drop a park there so that someone else cannot grab it that was probably the most strategic thing that I was trying to do during this game or maybe uh if you see somebody making a long run of their buildings in that quadrant on a score for that put one of your buildings there to block that to keep that run from going on and then obviously if you can collect a lot of one color you can try to score those points for tallest buildings in each of the other quadrants again very light game I don't know it's one of those that for our game group would be our filler type game for us I think there are others that we might want to do um different for this one but again I do think this is a solid family style game that plays well under an hour and is very easy to teach yeah I mean the community says eight and up for this yeah I I agree so I don't forget what tick toide is so yeah this is a I like the fast setup nice production I will say that um you know be careful with the boards somebody broke yours I'm not going to say who y'all I have not seen this happen in a very long time so Tony Tony sets up the board were you trying to lay it flat

you were trying to bend it the other way to make it flat is that what you were doing so yeah it was it was curved I wanted to bend it the other way just like normal board bends that you do to try to get it laying a little bit flat so I go ahead yeah no I was going to say honestly that's one thing we kind of point out was kind of a production issue uh cuz Bert pointed out that a lot of uh board games now have a little tape in the seam to keep that from happening the only thing that was really holding this together was the printed player board that's on it and it didn't take much to rip it now it's it's an inexpensive game so maybe they just cut down on cost so be careful when you unfold this and don't do the trick of bend it the opposite direction to try to get it to lay flat because you may just rip it right in half like it was a clean rip it was at least it was clean and and Bert looked at my face and he's like uhoh I'm like uhoh don't tell Marty this is how it came Marty I swear you just put them together that's how you put them together so that is Sunrise Lane designed by Riner kitzia from horrible Guild 5 minute initiative is

complete you listen to this show it's no surprise that I really like citybuilding games Civ style games I just think it's fun to start like from nothing a nation a Young Nation nothing like research technologies have somewhat of a tech tree gather resources strengthen your nation make it stronger so when I saw this game that came out actually at the end of last year called path of civilization uh from Captain games and designer Fabian Grell I was very interested in it um Tony you also are a fan of of Civ games this one's was one of those to the kind of fit is wasn't that long some of those can be super long this plays up to five people and lasts like 60 to 120 Minutes the Box actually says 20 minutes per player which is probably pretty spot on from what we saw yeah and you but it this hits the nail and the hell for me on time CU you're right some Civ games take forever and I'll admit you know my attention span is weak and but this one was right there it it lived up to his name Quick teach quick play I I love games like this where everybody is doing something at the same time you're not having to wait yeah we did discovers we're playing there's really not a lot of downtime uh because and we're going to talk about this that game through the phases and that way you'll hear how this game works but you'll see as we're talking about it that most of these phases can be done simultaneously so you're not really wasting a lot of time uh waiting on somebody else uh to do something right in the middle of the table kind of if you see it the main

thing that you're going to see is these Columns of cards and each column has uh four cards in it those are the tech tree columns and they for like culture military and there's different levels level one uh going up so that's what you're going to be purchasing over time to build your civilization uh get special abilities Etc that's sitting right there in the middle of the table but then each person has a player board that has uh five the resources your your various your civilization your technology your um scientific culture and Industrial tracking where your track the official term was technology track technology track I imagine that yeah it's your resources it's your resources to help you buy stuff yeah and in fact as we start talking about this review if it starts to sound like more of a Euro and a Civ game that's kind of what we concluded okay it's good it feels more like a Euro and as we you hear us talk about you you'll hear why it's that more so then your typical civilization Style game dudes on a map moving around exploring building up combat Etc right and it's very uh loner based you're playing pretty much by yourself and I've got no problem with that I really don't no no in fact what you end up doing is playing actually against the game the game has played over nine rounds and at starting with the third round there's

going to be a card that's resolved like you're playing against the game there are something called a challenge card and then also the the battle card and at the end of the round you'll be resolving against the challenge and battle card so when you're fighting when you're building up your military strength it's not because we're attacking each other it's because we're dealing this this with this card we have to contend with at the end of the round right and the competition is where who did the best battle and you will be rewarded based on your ranking there the same thing with the challenge cards it's all about ranking and whoever does the best during that round to meet those goals or objectives of the challenge or battle cards will res will get benefits you get rewarded for having a great civilization that's what you're doing what's really nice is the game flows so easily like Tony said it's very easy to learn each round is just broken up into six phases each phase is very simple to understand let's just talk about the first phase project phase typically you're going to have at least five cards in your hand could have more these cards that you have are multi-use cards you start out everybody starts with the standard technology cards but you're going to those cards in the middle of the table you're going to buy and those will replace some of those cards in your hand those cards that you buy will be better the multi-use card uh comes into play in that uh it can either be used for deploying some of your cubes to these different trays that are out on the table because see around the table there's a battle tray a Wonder tray a

philosophy tray chall tray and a leader tray putting one of your cubes in that tray that Cube becomes that thing so for example if I put one of my cubes into the battle tray that's now considered a unit if I put it into a leader tray it's considered an ambassador your cards is going to be how you deploy those to the trades your cards are also how you're going to move up the tech tree and during this phase you're going to take four of your cards and either have them to be ones that you assign your cubes to the trays or move up the tech trees and then one card must be discarded and that's literally Tony the entire phase and that's one of those we can actually all do at the exact same time and that's really the game right there I I mean in all seriousness is getting these cards positioned during the project phase so that you can ratchet up either your cubes or your resources or your technology trees because that's how it's going to let you buy additional cards deploy additional B um additional cubes into the various trays so next phase is called the deployment phase which is nothing more than looking at the left side of the board if you draw the board down the middle everything to the left side of that is Will deploy the cubes now this is the the the cards on the left side of the board the cards actually tell you what to deploy yes yeah yeah so draw draw it right down the middle if you've got a leader you split the lader in half everything on the left side those cards will tell you matter of

fact it says it right there on the board this is the B phase you got to appreciate the iconography of this game yep so the next phase Marty is of course the evolution and purchase phase what's that one about so here's where you start evaluating things on the board you've played the cards you've put the cubes out on the board what you're going to do is there is a there is a philosophy board on the table where everybody has one of their markers beside that is the blue tray which represents philosophy as you assign Cubes To That tray they cues become philosophers if you meet the threshold of going from one level to another on that philosophy board you're going to spend the cubes out of that tray they come back to your supply you move your marker and you'll get some sort of bonus when you do that the first person that moves get there's two face down bonuses you pick one that's going to be and play the rest of the game then everybody else will gain it as they go up but that's also how you get end of the game scoring points so this is one of the ways like at the end of the game how far did you move up on the philosophy track okay you get those X am x amount of points next is acquisition of Wonders so if you go look at the gray tray all cubes are in there are considered Builders each round there are going to be cards that are deployed below that tray and as you go up there's different levels the later in the game there are higher level Wonders that are made and there's a cost to purchase those wonders the cost is the number of Builders that's in the tray so if there's a wand out there that cost four

Builders and I got four cubes in that tray pull those four out take that wand put on top of my board it gives me something maybe it's something ongoing maybe it's something instant then right after that you're going to evaluate or purchase a leader right beside that is the purple tray where you can deploy cubes below that is a set of cards new cards will come out each round of leaders that will go on your board that give you also ongoing abilities and those leaders can be replaced over the course of the game sometimes when the leader dies it actually gives you something when it's ding off the board it may have an icon that say oh by the way when this is dead you still get something or could be in-game victory points so you're evaluating the leaders and wonders that available to you each round you just got to make sure you have the right cubes deployed to the trays in case you want to purchase them now one of the things about this acquisition is that everybody is basically putting their cubes on the cards if Marty wants this wonder and I want this Wonder we both can assign our cubes our workers to that Cube now on our player boards there's a priority and depending on the priority that sets who gets ties and you're like but hey Tony he he took that from me I don't that's not fair I'm G to lose my workers no don't worry during the acquisition you can move it to another card if you want to you can take those cubes and say okay I see Marty's going to take this away from me the dog so I'll go take this other Wonder

instead so you're not this is one of the things Mar I think in the game I I did really appreciate was that I wasn't losing these cubes and the ones that I had put on cards if I had to go to a lower one they would go back into the the tray so I like how they resolved that I didn't feel like it was very punitive there wasn't all this bidding which would create downtime and it's all pretty well defined I can look over there and say Hey you know Marty's going to put out his you know he's going to get that LE if he puts his cubes on it well maybe I need to force him you know this is where the gamemanship comes in right hey I'm going to get this and Marty may not want me to do it so he's going to have to spend his workers and get on that Temple or get for those leaders each player board is unique in the order that they have the uh technology icons at the top the cultural scientific spiritual military and Industrial each wonder and leader is a certain type of thing if one of them is a scientific and I I assign my cubes to the scientific card and I have scientific number three on my priority and Tony has scientific as number two that means Tony you can just come take it from me but like you said it doesn't matter because I can transfer those cubes to something else or use them in the next round I I really like that too and it makes resolution of who gets what very quick and snappy alleviating any downtime right now in the philosophy tray you have to advance if you've got enough um philosophers they've become all

philosophical you've got to advance which can when you're resolving in round if there is a philosophical challenge going on that may hurt you so you got to you got to be paying attention end around stuff so that all that ties together so you've got to resolve these things but you also need to look at the challenge and how it will be resolved at the end so that that's pretty much the acquisition phase and wonders and leaders are optional to by well research you're moving up you're moving up on your technology tree you're looking at all the cards on the right side of the board right split the leader and half everything to the right move up the circles I mean okay I'm putting they've got Square symbols on the left so I'm putting cubes in oh look there's circles on the right so I should be moving up the round marker on my technology track it's a little nice little cute little wooden cylinder mhm so I I'm going to go ahead and based on what's displayed on these various technologies that that are on my board on the right side I am going to advance my research board up accordingly that I mean so that's a 10-second phase next we go to technology purchase phase you must purchase a technology every round you will always have some sort of resource to buy something even if it's just one because you can buy the same technology over and over so you'll decide which technology you want to buy and when you buy it you get a bonus the trays have uh stickers on them and uh such that whichever technology card you pick up you'll get like a bonus maybe add a cube here

increase your battle strength or something and the higher level technology that you buy obviously will cost more research points but you'll get a bigger bonus and the technology card uh is a little bit beefier and does more for you and then those are the cards that you're going to use the next round when you go back to that project phase now those will be used to assigned to your board to either assign cubes or research Technologies M now keep in mind that that when you're advancing on your player boards there are various rewards that you need to be paying attention to there are restrictions there's something like the population limits which will keep you from putting work workers out there or putting people in the trays that you can't advance past so you need to be leveling this stuff up as well so it's not just like a free-for-all so there are various you know as you move forward on the game you've got to deal with that and then we go into the end of round phase or the challenge phase we do we do the end round Marty's already talked about that rinse and repeat go to the next phase next round yep when it comes to the battling that's the one you just have to kind of figure out okay you got to figure out your battle strength for every Cube you assign to the red tray that's worth two strength plus there is a permanent stat that you can increase on the Battle Board that increases your strength add those together and then you're going to all the players are going to put a marker on the board and show what the current strength is Whoever has the highest gets the highest bonus on the battle card and so on and so forth but the battle card itself also has a strength and let's say

it's a strength of like nine and Tony finishes 10 it finishes nine I finishes eight it actually takes second place so Tony would get the first place points the game would get what's considered the second place it doesn't earn anything but it takes away the second place points from somebody else and then I would get third so you always want to make sure that you're higher than that battle card and those battle cards increase in strength over the rounds then you do this for nine rounds and guess what a person with the highest victory points wins how do you determine that well it's victory points from your technology cards Victory from your position on the philosophy track victory points from your position on the population track the victory points from all the leaders that you have acquired over the game victory points from all the Wonders you have acquired in the game or any of the victory Point end of game scoring that they have on those oh and then you'll total up all your Victory Point tokens that you have acquired beating the various challenges or battle cards and then and you'll do also half of your remaining cubes that are left in your supply total it all up you have a winner that's it that's the game now after hearing all that you heard it was like oh wow so there's a lot of using cubes as resources spending those to buy Cards those cards are better things that give you more resources the better Tech trees give you more things so see what I'm saying when it's a Civ themed game but it's more of a euro than a true civilization Style game mhm so some of the things about the game that people were saying I don't know about this so first off I always look at

games for replayability so different challenges will come out at different times there's various you know each of the phases there's multiple cards for phase three multiple cards for phase four so forth and so on so those will be different from game to d game and also how the challenges and battle cards line up maybe the one in three and four aren't the same next game so you've got that going on also of course the players in the random choices that they make and how they are progressing through their civilization may change your philosophy somebody may take a leader that you want so all that will come into play or maybe you'll concentrate in one area versus another so you need to think okay it sounds like it's rinse and repeat no there are various strategies that you must deploy while you're playing this game in my opinion because it's going to be different every game it may require me to not be a philosopher in in the first few rounds and you know wait hold that back because another challenge later in the game comes up and I need to drive that up or maybe I need to progress my technology now there is one thing that's been you know I got to say it or I'll forget it Marty how about those stickers okay number one super nice trays these trays that hold the cards they stack on top of each other and then there's a plastic cover that goes over the top tray uh so that's very nice the cars aren't going to go anywhere when you're ready to set up the board you just unstack the trays put them out on the board the slots where the cards go there's going to be a sticker that had to be placed it was a lot of stickers that were placed on all those trays cuz each side of the card

had a sticker uh on the tray and uh it took a little while but those stickers are basically the bonuses when you take that card that's the bonuses you get so yes there is stickering but luckily it's one and done and then it's over from there you talked about variability every game there's going to be different leaders and wonders that come out into play those are randomly decided at the beginning of the game uh too so those that's always going to be unique so there is a lot of variability I think Tony when you said at the end hey is there always one Tech that you want to focus on that will always work I think like you said it really depends on what leader there what wonders there what challenge am I going for which will draw I don't think there is a one strategy wins all because the randomness of the things that came out on the board will dictate which Tech Tree you might want to go up right and one of the things I did like about the game when you know you always have that Mark the you have the technology Market but you also have the Wonders and the leaders Market as well and you know normally at the end of a round with what wasn't purchased gets discarded not in this game everything is always to be available if it hasn't been purchased it will be there for the next round so you can plan ahead maybe I need to build up you know get a whole bunch of workers because there really is a nice Temple coming up that I want that's cost four I don't have that right now so I I I was like okay I like that because of how this game played out and getting the resources putting the cubes in the various tray I didn't have it this round

because I really needed to put these resources up to get this technology those are the decisions you're making when do I sacrifice and hope that someone else doesn't take that from you so a lot those those are your strategic decisions things I liked very little downtime a lot of those phases as we said can be done simultaneously 20 minutes per player seems pretty spoton the rounds end up flowing pretty well even though nine rounds they flow quickly the really the only evaluation you got are the challenges and the battles at the end and but that doesn't take long once you get into the groove the only thing that it was that probably I wasn't excited as excited about it was it didn't feel like a Civ game M meaning you know at typical Civ games when you have a tech tree I have to learn this Tech before I can learn this Tech this Tech before I learn this Tech that's not the case here you can jump anywhere I can buy any of the cards as long as I can pay for them I don't have to go up a tree in order to purchase certain things so it eliminates that portion of the game because there is no player interaction it's not like we're going to be building military forces and battling each other we're just battling a card or the game itself so that part removes some of what I typically get out of Civ games too there's no map there's no exploration or anything like that like uh in in other games that we've played so that's why for me it's a solid Euro game with a Civ theme now for the battling you are battling one another just position on the track to see who gets the rewards good point that's okay you're you're right yeah yeah but oh and by the way just like with the

philosophers after a battle all cubes that were assigned to that red tray are removed so every round you have to rebuild those back up they don't stay out there you buy something cubes are removed oh one thing I like I really love the idea these generic cubes can be assigned to any tray and turned into anything that you want right so you could have tons of guys fighting and no philosophers if you want to go that path but you better be looking at those challenging battle cards because that's that's the game right there like you know it's it's how do you want to get those victory points do you need to spread it out it it all depends on on what the other players are doing even though there's no interaction between the players what they're doing is impacting your turn and you just can't say well Marty go do his thing Burke go do your thing Mark I don't worry about you CU whatever you doing is not going to impact me so it's just you know that's one the things I like it without feeling like hey you know I'm I'm always in your face for me I enjoyed playing the game I really like the iconography on this game very straightforward to understand and read I mean you know when cards were showing up I was able to say okay there was some I needed to go read about but most of the time they were straightforward the board iconography straightforward I've already said this but it that to me makes teaching a game so much easier especially something like this I agree I agree this is path I was going to say path path of Exiles that's

a video game I tell you I'm out of it path of civilization a story of humankind from Captain games five minute initiative begins in 3 2 1 no surprise Tony and I love two-player car games so in Flat River group greater than games pitched hey we got this two-player game called compile do you guys like check it out guess gu would and uh so we got this it's like as I'm reading the rules I'm like oh this is kind of like smashup you know when smash up where you take a couple different decks merge them together and do something with them yes that's what you're doing in compile uh the theme is kind of like a a a computer programming cyberpunk type thing you've got 12 different decks you're going to draft from I'm going to take one like Tony will take two I take two Tony takes one so each of us have three we're going to line up those cards that we've drafted called protocol cards like called Life Death plague dark Etc uh line them up in a row in front of uh each of us so they're across from each other we're going to take those decks of those cards merge them together shuffle them up draw a hand of six cards and then we're going to play the game Tony the game play is pretty simple I'm going to have three different types of cards of the ones I've drafted like uh light dark metal if a card's metal I got to play it behind the metal protocol card what I do there's three text boxes on there there's a top text box that will go into

play like when I play it the middle text box may be ongoing and then the last text box may be may be a trigger like at the start of Turn end of turn then you're going to play a card and we're going to go back and forth the trick is is that when I play another card to a row that's already had a card played I cover the existing card removing those abilities so now there's new abilities available for me and each card has a value in the upper leftand corner with the goal of trying to it's a race to get to 10 or more first uh in that column and if you do before your opponent you get to compile or flip over that protocol the first person to flip over three protocol cards wins the game mhm straightforward you got cars out there messing with the board messing with each other so one of the things you need to do is be thinking about okay wait a minute he's got a card that's got a five on it if I flip that over it's going to turn it to a two now one of the things is the rows and columns can affect one another so you got to be thinking your strategy from that standpoint when to do things cards are being discarded cards are being returned to play you're flipping cards everything that you and I enjoy about a two-player card game without having to deal with counters we've got that interaction we're messing with one another and just like okay and sometimes you can sit there and say okay it hangs on a thread as to who's going to win based on the next card play and then you could do tricky things like uh you can actually shift protocol cards there are some cards I'll let you like I

can swap maybe the metal and and dark swap places now I'll be playing the metal and dark cards in a different column at that point but maybe that sets up a cool little strategy because even though you cover up a card when you play it you leave the top text to the card exposed because that is a persistent ability that you always have so as you're playing cards you're changing the rules of the game based on those cards that are face up on the table in each column which also makes it unique and every type of protocol deck has a different play style to it so every time you play this game you may want to draft o I want to try this deck with this deck with this deck because I think I can pull on some cool Combos and it when you're flipping these cards over hey the text is gone hey the text this back now I get to do some other things it'll get to impact you on on that side one of the things I wasn't crazy with is when we were going through this was all right when it says to do certain things to a card is it your card my card oh wait it can be any card oh wait is it covered does that count we had to work through those in the rules to try to see what they were trying what it meant and make sure that we were playing it right because I think the flipping is very powerful and so you can't just like suddenly take out somebody's five that's been covered up because you know what the rules say maybe there's something that says any card then it apply so things you have to consider when you're playing this little uh it's not a trick-taking game obviously it is a like you said a smashup of beating one

another to get to race to the first person to get three compiled programs one thing I like too is once you get to 10 uh your opponent will have a chance to respond so let's say if Tony gets to 10 we don't evaluate if he wins until the very beginning of his next round so maybe I have a chance to counter maybe I have a chance to move one of his cards or maybe build up so that I'm actually higher than 10 cuz when he evaluates if he's over 10 but lower than my side he won't be able to compile that card so I do like that that I get the response uh oh somebody's going to win let me see if I can keep them from winning my next round plays quick plays in about 20 minutes the variability is out of the roof because your drafting is going to be different every time I think the cards look great the graphics on them are nice there's nice foil etching on it which makes the cards real nice too nice durable cards nice card holder so presentation Wise It's nice too so that is compile from greater than games 5 minute initiative is

complete as you just heard in this episode I was up at uh lake near Charlotte North Carolina and we were playing some games and in my car of course was my game Toppers Matt and I'm I'm going so this is so right now there's a summer sale going on so head over to gam Toppers llc.com and you can get 15% off all accessories in premium gaming mats I I know we talk a lot I know I am in love with their mats justly so because when I rolled this mat out on the table while we were there it may playing card games and uh any of the other games that I put on the table so much nicer but the people were sitting there and they go hey I'm looking for a game topper mat or I'm looking for a mat similar to this we were just going to go bu felt and I said well let me tell you and before I can finish Marty Donna was already pitching the game mat she knows nothing about this but she was pitching this and she goes oh I love these mats he has she goes first off you know how on a mouse mat the the um the the stuff will will curl up after you've used it a lot it will peel away the edging yes oh oh I know what you're saying the felt come off the edge yes she go this is this doesn't happen because of the stitching I didn't even have to say look at the stitching on the edge Donna's right there selling she goes also we put this down on the table so that people can put their drinks on the table when he doesn't get out the game Toppers that sits on the table with the holders

Cale 5 minute initiative begins in 3 2 1 party games are very plentiful to me when one comes out it's like oh how is it's going to be like the others but I will say that this game that we just played from funny fox games and sorry we are French called Mind map actually does things a little bit different which I like now this game is designed by Johan go hope Hong and Gary Kim in this game each body each person is going to have a secret word and you're going to take turns placing your coordinate token in a Game Zone that's set up by two criteria at the beginning of the game so you know Tony we love graphs as uh you know everybody took algebra right you got X X and Y graphs and that's exactly what you're putting on this table where there is a category that represents the Y graph a category that represents the X graph and you've got a secret word that you're going to place somewhere in that coordinate space in hopes that you can get people to guess what your word is based on a pre-placed reference word somewhere in that graph and I guess it's probably best to give some sort of maybe an example to what I'm talking about maybe I would hope so I mean you're first off which coordinate or quadrant is this that can help people you XY graph you're always going into the quadrant one uh this will be quadrant one yes yes so it's always positive for instance you have a word oh I don't know let's call it Dynamite okay and everybody can see the secret words don't

think you're holding it in your hand they're they're besides the the Y AIS and you're given a number that reference those those secret words and only you know which one so everybody can see them so on the y- axis you would have a coordinate example of safer than dynamite and the x-axis could be fluffy as dynamite and you've got to place your word somewhere around that like if you had a teddy bear M it is way softer than d dite and not very deadly right so you would you would place it down near the the inter intersection of the X and Y AIS and and people have to think how how did he relate that I kind of screwed this up on my first word but after that yeah I was in this I was in this yeah a paperclip dangerous people yeah so the randomization is what the coordinates represent and the random reference word is also put out there too so you happen to pick one that was extremely dous but let's say if if the y axis was something that's very dangerous but let's say the word the example word out there was pencil well now it's like oh well maybe my secret word that was assigned to me is dynamite dynamite was way more uh dangerous than pencil so I'm going to put my marker above where the pencil is on the Y graph but it's not very fluffy so it's going to go also to the far right and then each person is going to place their uh

token and then we'll have numbers one two 3 and four and we'll assign those to which of those we think are so let's say number two is scissors and it's like which one of these four tokens placed in the graph do I think is scissors and then you place your your bids there or your your bets there and then you reveal each one for every one that you get right you get a point and for everyone that guesses your own secret word you also get points so you want to try to be as accurate as possible yeah I'd say play for the first round and see how it goes with people so they get to understand cuz sometimes it's hard to relate these things this game was surprisingly and the reason I say surprisingly enjoyable because when I first saw I'm like how is this going to work is it going to be confusing but no actually some of the conversation that was occurring after we were revealing was just as entertaining as watching people struggle to try to put it in relationship on this XY graph M I was just like so I I thoroughly enjoyed this I thought this was a great game I think it plays up to 14 with two teams of seven yes that's correct yes so it's anywhere from 4 to 14 uh you play three rounds so you're done in 15 to 20 minutes it's pretty quick unless you just sit there and spend a lot of time uh discussing like you mentioned now I will say there are some there were some weird times where it didn't make a lot of sense so for example let's use the thing that you put out there let's say the reference word really was dynamite and none of the four secret

words were dangerous at all what can happen is you can have a clump of tokens in the same spot of the coordinate graph and when they don't differentiate a lot you it's really kind of a guessing game at that point right so if the secret word disc are clumped in the graph you don't know really which one is which so you want hopefully the randomness of the reference word and the two things on the axis to be very broad so that your secret words can be spread all all over the graph right so that round becomes a no never mind it's a it becomes the it's a guessing game at that point and honestly if something like that was to come out I would actually discard dynamite and pick another word uh that that you know is not the extreme of one of the axes is that that's what you don't want sort of deal yeah CU we had a couple one of them where someone put it way outside it it was on the logarithmic scale at the very high end it just accelerated on out of there and actually that's one of the discussions that we had cuz somebody like went beyond that or something it's like what what are you talking about and that's where we spent two or 3 minutes hearing the person's rationalization of why they put that out there but nobody guessed it sort of deal so again this is a a competitive game but it's a lot of fun the competiveness is kind of you don't really need to keep score it's just as much fun to try to put the tokens out there and guess the circuit words as it is to keep the score of the game right but you you got to have the game end so keep score people play to a certain point that that's true that's true it's but this is one of those part of games you could keep playing over and over until you're just bored or make it fun and keep the score

so I also like that it supports up to 14 players uh that so that's a big group that you can play it plays quickly and it's very easy to explain and it really with just one example of showing what it looks like on the table people will get it instantly yeah and I don't and I do think that if you try to say we'll put three people on a team then becomes too long because of the discussion of where things go things will go so two people work well cuz you can whisper in one another's ear and say I think this one should go there they give you a ton a ton of words and because they're going to be coming out random every time even if you see the same word a couple times it won't matter because the axes will be different every single time and that's what makes it unique so even if you see some of the same cards it's still going to have a very unique feel so I like this I would like to play with six or seven uh with each person doing their own thing cuz I that that would be a lot of tokens out on the graph which might make it more interesting with a lot of more discussion too absolutely this is another one that Marty shelf definitely I'm going to get it when I can get a chance to put my map because I think it's very unique something I do not have and I know that my larger group of the people um play games with even um some that may have some uh language dependency this would work out great and I think it'd be a fun one to have in your collection MH so that is mindmap from sorry we are French and funny Fox 5 minute in initiative is

complete this episode J drops on June 4th and wow that was awesome did I tell you how did I tell you how tired I was you're tired I think we just got our our thing after the outro there it is no this one's just staying in there all right here we go so the music's playing while we're talking about miniature Market's back room Sal I'm getting the G all right sorry all right so uh this episode drops June 4th and also in June 4th a brand new back room cell for Miniature Market has just started and this one features a lot of products that are used for card games especially sleeves and deck protectors for example there's a there's a ton of different cortex Japanese size size sleeves of a bunch of different uh colors there's DND play mats there's Dragon shield sleeves Dragon shield good point Tony ooh o is good Dragon shield sleeves are topnotch I love game genic don't get me wrong but Dragon shield is also very very good too KMC sleeves which I've used before there are deck boxes Magic the Gathering deck boxes of one of the latest sets Murders At Carlo Manor Magic the Gathering playmats tons of them dominaria United March of the machine murders a Carlo Manor I mean these are like4 or5 off woo tons of playmats tons of of sleeves if you like those particular sets like Murders At Carlo Manor they have tons of sleeves available for those Pokémon albums Ultra Pro Guard play mats Ultra Pro Guard deck

boxes so you can see there are just tons of things if you're into playing cards sleeving cards storing cards that's on going on sale right now at the back room deals just head to the site front page will have a splash for it go check it out and make sure to look forward a new one each Tuesday and it runs through Friday over at miniaturemarket.com we sometimes will do sports ball talk here on this so Marty I went to the ACC Atlantic Coast Conference tournament which now includes West Coast teams I really don't I don't understand

anymore welcome to NCAA conference mergers oh my Heavens I just can't keep tracking anyway I went I you know our home team or our Alma moer NC State was is having a banner baseball year go pack uh and they you know followed up that incredible basketball run now in baseball they're hosting a regional here but I went to the ACC tournament to watch the pack play one night where they decided to stay on the bus where the previous night they scored 19 runs this night they only scored one run I'm like what the heck you know yeah I thought about you I thought about you oh my gosh Tony went and saw this oh and it was just like come on boys let's get the bats going they're illumin them y'all some Big Boys y'all should be sitting some dingers off the skyscrapers here in Charlotte North Carolina anyway so don looks at me she goes what what is that on on The Catcher And I go you know I don't know does he have a Fitbit on his wrist the pitcher I got no idea Google Google you got to be kidding me they're sending signals in through Bluetooth wireless communication telling the pitcher what to throw what the batter with the catcher to get ready to catch there's no more signals in baseball what kind of crap is this I I don't understand that either I didn't like it when they implemented this at all but removing the hand signals cuz

part of the game is for those don't know a lot about baseball if a man's on second base you can try to steal the signal right that's just part of the game you can try to see what the pitcher is going to throw and somehow signal the batter by the way fast coming or something like that and it's like oh that ain't right to be able to steal the signals it's part of the game and so they're doing this to try to eliminate that part it's also to speed up the game I understand it true true it is it is and I'm sure it was like when quarterbacks in the NFL were getting play calls through their headsets you know I I was like that makes sense I appreciate instead of having people run in and off the field and giving plays It sped up that game tremendously but I'm just like no I'm like you you got to steal the signals you got you know that's the captain is the catcher he's calling the game he's calling the defenses now everybody's looking at their freaking RIS I tell you what just get their phones give them their phones just set up a pitching machine and dial in what it's going to throw ex exactly what difference does it make I mean send it a signal okay we're going to send um Robo Matic 1000 so you know baseball 20 what was it oh oh what's uh baseball 2045 uh the oh God the oh yeah uh yeah yeah yeah we're getting there we're suddenly going to be there they're going to be telling people you know you're goingon to have automatic robotic pitchers and catchers running around here I was just like and I know the ACC has implemented it and I some some divisions have not but ACC jumped all

over this and I forget which team was the first one and so I was like I saw that on the catcher at the beginning I'm like is oh oh that's pretty cool the coaches are calling to the catcher to tell them which signals to do instead of him constantly having to look over at The Dugout so here's the thing then why doesn't that why don't they just go straight to the pitcher why doesn't the coach in the in the bench just s the signal and to The Catcher And pitcher so we'll know as opposed to going from catcher to catcher to pitcher or is it going to both it's going to both and it's even I think it I think there's somebody I think even the infield it looked like some of the fielders had them all so that they are you kidding me they got to know what he's getting ready to throw that was part of the game the second baseman knew the signal that the catcher was giving that's true no that's true no I don't like that at all so anyway all right that's enough randing about sports ball Bluetooth technology I'm old keep it the way it always was now I would be okay in some cases for a uh an automatic Strike Zone oh man man the Major League Baseball has had some horrendous calls this year but the worst of them all the Umpire Angel Hernandez at least retired he was the worst of them all oh yeah he was woo I I was watching a bunch of YouTube videos on his compilation of his calls and and Eisner going off on him I was just like wow and I didn't realize how long he had been in the league but yeah I am surprised a few bats didn't fly out of

some hands to you know clock him or the catcher pulling the glove down you know and oh and then what he he wasn't the one that threw somebody out and the and the guy was sitting there no he wasn't it wasn't him yeah so y'all there was I believe it was with the Yankees it was Aaron Boon was jawing with the UMP the Aaron Boon goes back somebody in the stands yells something and the UMP throws out Aaron Boon he like I didn't say anything doesn't matter doesn't matter you're gone that was a funny one and there was another one where you said said you're gone and the manager goes who's gone I don't know but somebody's gone and he's like oh that's right I heard about that one too tell me who who did you just throw out I don't know well you got to send somebody out get the get the crew man get the crew guy over here who do I got to send out who he sounded like an ow it was John Boy uh is it John Boy me uh yeah John Boy media oh he does an amazing job and I was just he sounded like a freaking ow that was funny so speaking of an ow I'm like who is going to beat your Star Wars unlimited deck which of my leaders is going to do that yes it's a time for a little star wars unlimited we are full giddy about this game and how it's being done I've got to beat Marty's red deck somehow and I will keep tweaking that Sabine uh is it Sabine green or saine blue I don't know what it is it's red okay it's just red

with red no no well Sabine Sabine is red yes but I'm it's it's the uh it's the other color you don't even know you're decimating me I'm just like give me a break this is ridiculous okay to be fair to be fair I looked and S saw some synergies and combos I didn't come up with this this myself I heard the strategy no I didn't I heard the strategy in learning to play a good car game player is look at what works put that together understand why it works which is why I did this and the first time I couple PLS I played I got decimated and then I realized oh oh Sabine de this deck is about speed and and come at you hard and fast I don't care if you got a bunch of units out I'm going after your base every single time my goal is to do damage over time faster than what you can till I eventually win and my my idea cuz I I enjoy playing with the chewy deck that I've got going on here and adding the green to it because it gives me the CU for Chey I've got to get more resources out faster because a slow deck can cannot hold up against other decks though I do like the one and I can't think of the leader I have that will allow me to um exhaust people I like that one too that may be the the winner oh is it that's is that thrawn when you look at the top of the deck yeah that's thrawn yeah so I'm I need to tweak that a little bit too and shift one of his aspects out to get it away from Green and see if there's a maybe maybe go red with him I don't know why well all I know is We Got Game Night coming up and we will be definitely

playing uh a little tweak deck so we're going to get out of here so I can go look at some additional cards see how I want to tweak it before you do by the way go look at our YouTube channel Tony and I got to do a preview of a new car from the upcoming set two cards which was a lot of fun uh to to be able to do that it was it was really cool and I don't know ton you man I've been keeping up with a lot of the previews there have been a lot of sneak peeks coming over the past couple weeks speaking of units a blue card was just introduced cost five defeat a unit any unit that that means leader oo okay that's that's a game Cher right there that is a game Cher so now a units annoying you he like you're gone it's kind of like a Netrunner scorched earth type philosophy yeah yeah I'm really surprised that card is already in play that seems almost too good I mean that's just every unit yeah sure it cost five but still yeah it depends it depends on how many people have the blue so anyway keep rolling Dice and taking names you know the routine got the socials of ding name our website and all like take name support the show buy me moi.com

and okay can I go to bed now yeah you can but you know what I need to move hey you want to come over help me move hell no
