welcome to allies or enemies I am Sean and I am flying solo today because I am talking about solo games and in particular final girl which is one of my most played solo games and today I'm going to be ranking everything from season 1 so that's going to include all five of the regular boxes as well as the Terror from above vignette and just telling you which ones I like the least to which ones I like the most and in general this game is terrific this just really speaks to me I love slasher movies especially slasher movies from the80s and while I don't usually like a lot of dice rolling in a Solo game it doesn't bother me that much and this one does such a good job of just telling a little story within the game even with just those few little things that you can do but you know what let's not talk too much about the game as a whole let's get into the particulars and kick it off with number six number six is K Manor and this is based on poltergeist which is a terrific movie which I've heard is secretly directed by Spielberg but he definitely produced it and it's terrific but the game is okay so the problems with Cree man are first of all I don't love the art style as much as most of the series that's not that important because that's mostly just on the box and it's just Skin Deep the bigger problem is whilst finally girl is always random this one

is just a bit too random so what you got to do in this one is you got to Poltergeist she's flying around this house taking out people trying to take out you before you can find this little girl and get her out of the house but the little girl is just hidden in one of the item decks which means if you happen to go to the right room early enough and just find her great you've beat the game in like five minutes if she's in like the last item room that you go to you're already dead so it is totally just a luck of the draw on which room she's in and there's not a lot you can do to figure that out and there are these really tough cards that sometimes even when you find her she gets taken away again and that is just so frustrating but there are a lot of real positives here the the actual Cree Manor is awesome it's one of my favorites of the locations it's really cool it's vertical you can jump out of Windows going around the different rooms this one's really fun to play with some of the other Killers so there are positives but this one is my number six at number five is sacred grove and sacred grove first knock against it is that it's not based on any specific horror movie so it doesn't have that instant thing for me to latch on to it's just about this dude who's really angry that people are going into his Forest so I guess it's kind of like The Lorax if he was just just being constantly angry for hundreds of years so it's kind of

based on something I guess but in this the super mean Lorax is trying to chop you and it's got these cool little um like the sacred locations on it which is interesting and plays interestingly into some of the events and some of um the Incan yamba Powers as well but this one is hard this one is so hard and it's hard because there are these extra track so there's an extra track card for Incan yamba and another one for the sacred grove and that's where this gets tricky is because you're doing both of these different tracks and because they're going off so often and whenever they go off they are hurting you a lot and the only way to get rid of them is to use this one extra card that comes with the set and that extra card really takes a lot of dice rolls and really kind of needs you to have three dice available but it's getting rid of all your dice so if you do well at the beginning and you just kind of charge the killer you got a good shot here but that feels like it's going against what the game wants you to do because you're just kind of guns a blazing right out of the gate and it feels like it wants you to manage these things but managing these things is so so hard and once it starts to go bad it just keeps going bad and bad and bad so when this one is best I think is if either you're playing Incan yamba in another one of the locations or you're playing a different killer in the sacred grove and either those it becomes really interesting but both together this is a

very very tricky one and can get frustrating and it is my number five at number four is Terror from above and this is a little bit opposite of the last one in that some people do argue this one's on the easier side and I think that's probably fair but it's also a really interesting challenge so terar from above is just this vignette it's a tiny little box of cards it's pretty cheap to pick up and it's got a killer in there it's got your cards in there it's got basically everything the other things have except it doesn't have an actual board but that's fine because it's got a whole bunch of birds this is based on Hitchcock The Birds and these birds are everywhere in town they start everywhere that anything else isn't and they're going to build up and up and up and how you generally lose this is that everywhere has three birds so you kind of pandemic them and when you've got extra Birds where you can't put Birds you got to put them and you have like little outbreaks of birds that build up and they attack you and they do do some damage especially to your victims who they take out in one shot but mostly it's just that they're building up and getting more and more scary much like in the film so what you got to do is get everyone out of there and you've got these special victims and one of them happens once you've saved enough people to level up your final girl the next one comes out once you you've saved everyone and you've cleared off the map and you can actually make a third one come out

as well if you want to ramp up the difficulty but I found that middle difficulty has that real sweet spot of it always comes down to the last card every time I play this I've won this I've lost this it's always been the last turn if the thing I do works out I win if it doesn't work out I lose and I love that just the timing of it's perfect I really like the theme so this one is number four at number three is Carnival of blood and this is the other one in season 1 that's not really based on something but it kind of is it's just kind of that General Trope of the evil kind of clown evil Carnival he's not a clown he's like a ring Master he's named jepetto and he's got a bunch of little puppets and this one the tricky is it's got a little extra upkeep because you got to deal with these minions and the upkeep is not that hard but it is I find it hard to remember that they can only be two spaces away from jepetto and I constantly catch myself being like Oh no these guys can't be here no I got to reset the game it's just a little thing you got to remember but it can get tricky they also can just get a little frustrating and can really team up on you quick the other tricky with this one is it's got these traps in the item decks which kind of make you not really want to use the item cards which is too bad because that's such a fun part of the game in general but the reason it's this high on the list are the events in this one are probably my favorite of anything in this series they've got just

these terrific ones especially this golf cart and if you played this you know what I mean and if you've got the golf cart so fun because you're just driving around the outside and you're driving through people and smashing into them and it's so satisfying to do this it's I don't know why it's so satisfying but it's so satisfying and they've got a few of them in this not a few golf carts but a few different interesting events that are really fun and the minion thing while it does have a little bit of upkeep does kind of set this one apart make it a little bit more interesting so this one is my number three at number two is Camp happy trail and this is the one everyone says to start out with and for good reason this one doesn't have any extra rules to worry about doesn't have any extra upkeep this is just kind of vanilla final girl but it does a really good job and it's kind of nice playing it without any of that other stuff and it's great because this is Crystal Lake this is Jason Vorhees although he's named Hans but this is basically this is Friday the 13th so this is kind of one of the OG slasher films and the inspiration for my t-shirt and I just I love Friday the 13th and I love just everything about this one and they really do a good job of bringing that feeling out of it especially some of the setup cards cuz you have some where you've got a bunch of kids at the bonfire you've got some where they're kind of spread out around the map you've got some where the killer

starts in the lake which is very Friday the 13th and so I appreciate that and this one I think the setup is one of the most interesting setups usually that's not an interesting part but it's just great to have just total meat and potatoes final girl that's what this one is and that's why it is number two number one is Maple Lane and M Lane is Nightmare on Elm Street and I can't even it would take a whole video to talk about my love of Nightmare on Elm Street and Freddy Krueger and this guy I don't remember his name but he's he's Freddy Krueger there's no doubt about it at all and you are on basically Elm Street and there's all these people in these houses and they've got this great extra mechanic where you've got to win their trust and get into their houses in order to save them from being murdered in their dreams also this other great mechanic about the dreams so you've got two states in this one of being awake or asleep and when you're asleep you do this really fun but really simple little card little mini card game where you're moving this card around and revealing other cards and hoping that Freddy's head doesn't like pop out and get you and it's really fun and it especially because I always do it kind of like slow and really make a meal out of it and it can really add a little bit of extra tension to the game but just in general the the events in this one are very cool there's a really cool police car one that seems to come out a lot for me

that's a really interesting one there's an interesting different way of playing with the item cards where there's only so many between all of the houses in a different quadrant and all of the extra rules in this one just work really well they really play well into the theme it's my favorite theme and that is why it's my favorite one and that's my number one and that's it that's all my thoughts on season one of final girl if you like this if you're interested in seeing me also do one on season two please do let me know add whatever it is you want to in the comments all of that stuff really helps we've also got a new patreon happening so if you want to pop over there and check that out there'll be a link for that as well and please do like and subscribe as always and hopefully we'll see you again next time for another game what
