Board Gaming Ramblings Sep 4, 2026
Transcript 20:10

Hello everyone, this is Cinema.

is Johannes.

And you're watching Board Gaming Rambling.

And welcome back to Game of the Month, the monthly video series where we talk about the games that we played that month. If this is your first time here and this is the first video you're seeing on the channel, we have to say one thing, hello.

Welcome.

Welcome. We are from Norway, we like board games and we talk about them. If those are things you enjoy, talking about things with board games, you can subscribe. If you If you also you can subscribe. Anyway. And also like the video. And now we talk about games because games is a very cool thing. Uh games and also James.

And also James.

our editor which you should say thank you to because all the great work that he's doing for the channel. It's been another month.

Yes.

It had a few days like 31 or 30, I don't remember.

31 is in August, yes.

I don't remember the days.

Yeah, because

live in the days and I play board games in them.

I think the story is that when they were calculating how many days in a month, the emperor Julius, he got 31 days in July and then Augustus, the other emperor, he became like a little jealous so he wanted 31 in August as well. And that's why we have two months in a row with 31 days.

What channel is this?

And maybe it's just like total

Yes.

nothing

History based on memory, that's the channel that we

I was told when I was little.

Yes. And the game?

maybe it's all a lie or false.

Now I'm spreading misinformation on the internet.

Yes.

Double check that one.

There's no other misinformation on the internet so like this is probably the only one. But we had a month. We played board games. We also went on a trip.

Yeah.

Not far but not short. Like it was not just like to the to mailbox or something like that.

I wouldn't call that a trip.

Today we're going on a trip, going all the way to the mailbox to see if there's something in it.

Oh, what are we doing this weekend?

We're going to the mailbox.

We're going to the mailbox.

We might talk about that, but now we're going to let you know if you haven't seen these videos before, you probably skipped to this part because the first part is like rambling and then we're going to the thing. We're going to talk about the stats of the month. We're going to let you know all the games that we played, so many of them we have or will be doing content for. If we haven't and will not, let us know in the comments if you have any questions. You don't know if we're going to do content for them. But that's just how it is. You have a guess. And also we will talk about the most fun experience, biggest let down, biggest surprise, and the top three games of the month. Let's start with the stats.

Yep.

In August 2026, we played 49 plays of board games.

Which is less than the 85 we did last month.

That is true. It's Also you learn history, you learn math.

Yeah.

You learn so many things on this channel. We played 22 different games.

Uh versus the 29 we did in July.

Which is less.

Yeah.

We played 19 new to us games.

Which is almost exactly the same because we played 18 last

Yes, but it also means that we almost only played games we hadn't played before in August.

And we played 53 hours of board games.

Versus 68 last month.

Okay, the biggest surprise, not the biggest surprise, the most important stat of them all is how many times did we win? Do you know how many times did you win?

21.

22?

21.

21. And I won 21.

You won 21?

I won 21. And you won 21.

Don't drive 88.

Don't drive 88. I won 21.

That was a big surprise.

That Well, that's going to be my biggest surprise actually.

that we played.

Oh, yes. All the games that we played. No, no, I just I just told them the thing and then I forgot the thing.

Yeah, but you did last month, too. I'm pretty sure.

These are the games that we played in August of 2026.

Regicide Legacy.

North Green.

Chrono Creators.

Wild Worm.

Gray

Leda.

Revenants.

Ashes, Black Out Protocol.

Excursions.

Bale.

Alpine Lakes.

Terra Mysta.

Quebec.

Crab Ridge.

Near.

Trials of Mayar.

The Adventure Story.

Junk and Gems.

Nakam Sendo.

A Secret Game.

Snowy Tricks.

And Abra Cadabra. Those are the games that we played. And now we can go to the other part where we talk about the things.

Yes.

Yes, let's do it. We're going to talk about the things. Maybe we should have like a theme song. For like, now it's time for the most fun experience of the month for Board Gaming Ramblings. It's a game or it might not be a game. It might be an experience that's not a game. It might also be a game. It can be a game. It's not has not have to be a game, but it can be. And also Senna can't have it on her top three list because that's a rule that she'll never break. Sometimes he breaks it, but not very often. This is the most fun experience. What do you think about that jingle?

I think like James, you just have to like

save this and use it in every single video that we film.

No. Now let's talk about your most fun experience.

Yeah. My most fun experience, I think it's the same as you.

Might be. I have kind of two.

Oh, it's not a game.

I have like a bigger one and also a smaller one that's kind of also big.

Yeah, okay. Now,

okay, you have to start.

I'll do the smaller one that's also kind of big, which is we met new people to play board games with. Which we don't do very often. Like we meet some people at cons and stuff like that, but we met some people that are local and we played games with them and they were great people. And we have played with them multiple times and we will want to play more with them because they were fun people to be around.

Yeah, I have to specify that there probably are a lot of people that we could like play with if we like were actively looking for people.

Yes.

Uh but but this

I'm not saying like we tried we tried to play with so many people.

sounded like that.

we don't often play with new people because like we have our people that we play with. So, it was a very And also, we ask I'm as a human being, I don't often get like new acquaintances or new friends and things like that. So, to meet somebody that I feel like we clicked with in a very nice way

was a very good experience for me.

I agree.

And I had like a great time playing with them all the games we have played so far, which is like four, and I want to continue doing that.

Yeah, I agree.

That was my big or small one that was also big because on a human level, it was bigger.

And also, the big one is the trip that you teased in the beginning,

Yes.

which was not to the mailbox.

No, it wasn't.

It was to Paris.

Yes, that's not the mailbox. We don't have a mailbox in Paris.

No, that would be very inconvenient. Yes. Um but

What did we do in Paris? Did we see the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Mona Lisa, the the triangle thing from National Treasure? Did we Not National Treasure, from the Dan Brown book, the What is it called? Like the Da Vinci code? Did we do that?

We drove past

Yes, I was like, "That's the Eiffel Tower. That's Notre Dame." Because we were on the way from one

escape room

escape room.

And it was warm.

Yeah, it was.

We were very lucky, actually, because it was like 30 30 28 to 34° C, not Fahrenheit, because that would be very low, I think. Because like it would be like very low because like 100 something was when we were in in in the in the Nevada desert, Las Vegas. But it was warm.

It was.

But we played like 20-ish escape rooms with Christian Østby and Marianne,

Mhm.

uh which was the third trip we took this year.

Yeah.

With them.

Yeah.

So, thank you for being great people to to be on trips with.

It was

awesome. We had so much fun.

Yes. I would say like if you are following along on these escape room trips we have done. This year we did the Netherlands, we did Barcelona, and now Paris. I would say like in general, Paris was a lower tier of escape rooms overall, but the the top

Mhm. Uh like what? If you're going to Paris

Yes. And if you hate escape rooms, like if you But if you if you hate like having fun,

Well, but it is like our favorite escape room from Paris.

Yes.

Should we share? I think we should.

Yes.

Yeah.

It's not like we're going to keep with a secret.

like sometimes the things we do are secret.

It's not secret that we went and played. It's not like a new escape room. It's not like Sometimes the things we Very seldom the things we do are secret. It's a game called Lime Cinema. It's not I think

Area 51.

Yes, it's I was I was just joking like if it's not not your favorite.

No, it's not, yeah.

It is really not an escape room. It's more of like an immersive live experience. If you ever felt was like how would it be to be inside an action thriller movie, go and play it. Not a thriller, like an action movie. Play it.

It was 2 hours of a very much fun. Uh we're not going to spoil anything. Basically, if you are in Paris or close to Paris ever you should go and play it.

Yeah.

And it need to be booked like a bit ahead because it's very often fully booked. Like on the weekend I think they have like 21 groups going through it one in one day. Um it's one of my most um more than one of the best experience I had in my life like period. Like one of the the best 2 hours of my life.

I want to like erase my memory and just like do it again.

[clears throat]

Or actually I I contemplate doing it again even though I know

Yes. In a few years when when we go back when they have because I'm hope there's going to be another live cinema game. And there's been other new games in Paris.

the I don't think there's anything to see in Paris. No, no, I saw the Eiffel Tower. I I I don't think I want to go and stand in line for 2 hours to see this smaller Mona Lisa. That's not my life. I would rather play Life Cinema again. Basically, if you have any want any recommendations of escape rooms in Paris, let us know in the comments. We're not going to talk about that for 2 hours. Yes, because often things we do are secret.

No. Okay.

I don't know like except for like the secret game we played this month. Very few things we do are secret.

Let's talk about my games.

about the the games that are not escape room games, but actually board games.

Okay, biggest let down. The biggest let down. Boo, crab.

I don't think this comes as a surprise to you.

No, because that's the next one that's the biggest surprise. It'll be like, wow, it would be like the biggest surprise is the let down that you had that as a let down. I'm sorry.

is Crab Rage.

Rage point.

I had fun when I played it. It's like basically a few rounds of area majority and crabs and crabs and like you're choosing actions and you're like bumping other people out of the area and like getting on teams with someone not on into I don't know. Norwegian brain. Well, teaming up with someone. That's the word. But like ultimately I was just like, okay, I got some points.

Yeah. It's a minus well. It was I loved the theme. I think the theme is fantastic. I don't think I need to play another game with that theme because now I played a game with that theme. But it was a fun theme. Just the game didn't was a wasn't a big hit for me. We also have the biggest surprise. That's going to be a big surprise maybe. Because if if you're not surprising me with the biggest surprise, is it even a surprise? Or maybe it's not supposed to be a surprise for me. It's supposed to be like a surprise for you because you were surprised by this.

if I'm saying it like

I was just trying to No, no, I was just trying to fill words while you were looking at the screen.

my biggest surprise is Regis Side Legacy.

Wow.

It's also mine.

Oh, it is? That was a perfect surprise.

I don't think you were that surprised because we play games together. If we don't, we try to keep it a secret. Like, that's things we do are secrets. Okay, talk about Regicide Legacy.

Regicide is

Oh, I want to say first, thank you to for to Christian for gifting this copy to us. Thank you. He didn't need anymore.

Yeah, because we we wouldn't have gotten it because it's expensive.

Yes, and also it is a pretty hard cooperative legacy game, which isn't like high on our list.

That's true. Uh Regicide is a game that you can play. I learned with a regular deck of cards. I've never played it.

Regicide like of cards, right?

Regicide like Yeah, but but you can play with a regular deck of cards. Uh, I have never played it. Um, the legacy version of it, I think it's cool. I have nothing to compare it with other than like other games in general.

I haven't played any games. I don't have anything to compare it with.

It's hard, but I think that's the like the that's how it is when it's a co-op game. Like

Every co-op game is hard. It's not true, but this one is. And it's also good. It's so good. It it there it has no reason to be that good. Like, we played the first time we played it, I was like, "Why is this so good?"

Yeah.

And then we played it more and it changed. I was like, "Why is this so good?"

Maybe you like it more than me. I think it's good, but I don't think it's like so good.

The thing about it makes it so good for me

Oh, so good.

is that it's so casual.

Yeah.

Like, it feels like a wind down game. Like, it feel like you have to think, you have to strategize, but there's a lot of luck, a lot of that. So, I feel like it's doing what it's supposed to do in an almost perfect way. And that is what makes it such a fun experience for me because it is one of those games where Oh, let's just play around.

Mhm.

And it's very very very easy to set up. And we know the rules now for the kind of scenario we're trying to win. So it was like, "Okay, I'm going to start I'm going to play the cards." Explain now how games works like you're playing cards. I'm doing an action. Oh, I'm hitting the enemy. And then you Oh, no, take damage from the enemy. And then it's your turn after my turn most of the time. Sometimes actually my turn after my turn because that's one of the rules in this game that that can happen. Um but I think that that is why I like it so much because it's so simple in its form which makes it one of those games that it's not like, "Oh, we're sitting down to play a game." It's like, "Oh, let's just play a round." And that makes it such a great experience for me. Now, let's talk about the top three games of the month. Should we have a jingle for that as well?

I don't I I think we're good.

Top three games of the month.

All right, that's that's it. Okay. I like it. I like it.

Do you like Which one did you like the more?

The last one. Well, it it was yeah.

Okay, top three. Do you want to begin?

I can begin.

You can begin.

I can I can begin. My my number three

Number three.

is North Green. That's why I struggled to say it because I was saying the green.

Oh, the green. Oh, so it was a spoiler kind of.

My Yeah, my number three is North Green. This is a it's a really nice game.

Yes.

And I just like all the games on like on the menu

Yes.

Mhm.

I know that it's only only number three but this is the game that I want to revisit like soonest because

I did already. I did already.

Oh, you did?

Yes.

Oh. Yeah, you you did.

I played it after we reviewed it. It's very seldom happen.

Because it's very easy to get into. It's easy to get to table. It's snappy. It's very tight. You have like so few turns before the game is at an end. But but like it's it's a also a crunchy game in not that much time. So it's just like a really really nice medium game.

Yes, my number three is I'm doing break cinemas law, which is having Redcide Legacy as my number three. North Wind was my number four, just going to put that out there. My number three is Redcide Legacy Legacy for all the reasons I spoke about it recently.

Uh-huh.

And now number two.

My number two is Secret Game. No, it's not.

For all the reasons that I can't say.

No, I don't think it No.

My number two is Chrono Creators. Um it's

My number two is Chrono Creators as well. Just one banner. Bruce Banner.

And it's going to be green.

I'm trying to crossover dance with you.

Oh, crossover. We're doing the top three getting his number two crossover.

It's a really cool Euro game. It has some mechanisms that I haven't seen before. For example, like the time travel, that doesn't feel like time travel, but but also like the dice that you're

I never seen time travel in real life before.

That's true. Only in board games, but um

Mostly in video games and movies.

Yes. Yeah.

Maybe.

Um but also I like the dice that you're putting on the your player board and your grid, and you want them to fulfill the the puzzle thing.

The quests.

Quests, thank you.

Missions.

Yes, missions. But it also use dice for everything you're doing, so it's like a balance of give and take.

I think that's

Yeah.

the most unique thing about the game. I really, really like that. I think that the balance, as you said of like, okay, I want to have the dice, but I want to use them too. It's like having a cake and eating it at the same time. Only that you can't, because you can't clone them. It's not a cloning game. It's a time travel game, which is basically all about getting access to other action spots in a round that are not accessible. Really good one. Do you want to do number one?

Yeah.

I'm going to guess that we have the same one.

I'm guessing that, too.

It is

Ashes. No.

Blackout Protocol. Why did you say no? Because you were thinking you said the wrong name?

Yes, Ashes Blackout Protocol.

I I

Blackout.

Blackout.

I I really love these games that Perilous Games are putting out.

the other one? The name of the other one?

That's the thing. It's The Phoenix

Phoenix

New Horizon. Yes, thank you. And when I said Ashes now I was like, no, that's the

That's the other one.

the other one. But that is the right one.

Next next year it's going to be Ash Phoenix a Phoenix from the Ashes.

They really have miserable windows cards.

Project Out Protocol.

Yes.

Next year.

Okay. But yeah, stellar game.

It's a great game.

We're going to You're going to see it. We have it on the channel. You can look at it with your eyes.

Mhm.

With a two video. Because we we have made other videos, but that you can look at with your eyes. And if you want to Did you want to say something else about this?

just like good then watch the review.

Yes, it's fantastic. Go see the review if you haven't yet. And if you want to see us with your eyes and not just through a screen, you can find us in Essen. We're going to go around and you can be like, "Hello, where are you?" And we will try to hide from you. And then we'll be like, whoop, coming like like you will see our face jumping up over like a thing and you're like, "Oh, found you." And you will shoot us with a Nerf gun. And then you will get 10 points.

this.

And if you get 2,000 points, you can trade it in a board game.

Oh. Wait, what? How many points do I get? We

You get two.

So we have to do that 200 Oh.

And that's just And the points

padding and bubble wrapping myself.

reset each hour. So good luck with that. Uh but you can find us at Spiel. And if you do see us walking around, you can give us the secret sign because that

that over the Nerf gun, please.

Yes, let's not do the Nerf gun. I don't think you will be able to bring a Nerf gun into Spiel.

Don't try.

Also, if you want to make sure to find us, we will be at the Alion booth uh Saturday uh from the like 2-ish 2:00 p.m. I think 2:00 p.m.

Yes.

to to the evening. And then on Sunday morning, we will be there as well. So, you can come on find us and you can say things to us like hello and how are you and did you enjoy X game? You can change X with like a game that you wonder how we enjoyed. And also, you can do small talk with us. We are we are we I think we're pretty nice people. Yes. And chose the secret sign if you want to. And if you don't want to, you still have to do it. And if there's one thing you have to do is to subscribe because it's free.

Mhm.

What do you get for subscribing?

Nothing. No joy. Joy.

Yes. And you help us in our in our quest for 1 million subscribers.
