Let's start playing those unplayed games! - Keep or Cull
Transcript
hello everyone this is Cinema and this is Joannes and you are watching board gaming ramblings and today we are doing another keep or C episode where we keep or call games that we have played and we are starting our journey through the shelf of shame we have played 10 games off of that list now it's kind of some of the games feel more cheating because we haven't had them for so long but like our rule which is May basically the truth is that unplayed game or unplayed games yes so basically everything that's in the house if we get a game now in whatever this is 2025 the year it's not going to count towards the challeng of playing unplayed games even know it is an unplayed game it has to be on the Shelf the 31st of December but the other thing is like a game we had from Gen Con or or Spiel when we play that it doesn't feel like oh yeah we got an unplayed game off the shelf that's true even though we did yeah we did it doesn't feel like a sh of Shame game it just felt like an unplayed game yeah uh well you can call it many things you don't need to call it the shelf of shame but I feel the most shameful about the games that been here for a long time I love it the one of the comments on the video we did a few weeks back on the sh of Shame there was one comment that was basically like tweat that as a board game shop in your house yeah where you could just like oh and you want a new board game today it's there and it's free the best board game shop in the world the problem though is that you it doesn't replace other board game shops no and also it
doesn't have the best games uh today we are doing 10 games some of them are newer some of them are older do you want to begin yes let's do a brand new one yeah it's really small it is it is six it's new and it's small it's not that's not the name is six suspects are you ready yes one two three boom double call Double call you could keep it just because like I would justify this box I won't call it even a Bo like the size of the game it's a wallet game it is a deduction game where you look at cards to figure out who have robbed the bank and has the most value of their money but the cars can switch around and stuff did you not enjoy it no I thought it was really Pleasant I like this deduction thing and a lot of deduction games that we have don't hit the table too often because there were a hassle to get to the table this was super duper easy so if you want like a light super simple deduction experience yeah I did not think it was any fun I thought it was really nice I thought it was it was there yeah yes next up I I enjoyed it it was a review copy this is a review copy this is washed assure was the short from Alat games it's a one plus player games it's like a a chal adventure let's do the thing yeah one two three boom boom Double C this was it it's a CH Adventure so it's going to be like oh you randomly got killed by a
bear uh and it was not that fun I I guess that if you play the whole thing you can play it 13 different times with 13 different endings if you like that you can sit hold the deck in your hand it feels like a sitting in on it feels like a solo game I'm going to sit on my couch or in a chair and just have the cards in my hand and do the thing you might need a little bit of space to have some cards on it but it feels more like that than just like a game to play it was fine we didn't play the whole thing we played like a chapter and I thought it was okay this has the same problem that seven content has for me it is too much of the survival part for me to really have fun with it and also like the Robin on cruo luck that like ran oh you needed medicine didn't have it didn't have it but I have these five swords um yeah I but this is smaller than seven continents so it would be easier to have do you have another game yes I have several actually but let's start with myy Mory myy myy it's a trick taking game with some dice in it 1 2 3 boom it's a double keep double keeping all the way across the sky well actually I can choose K that's also fine to do it more interesting yeah to make it more interesting yes oh no well uh Mor is I thought it was a clever trick taker because you the cars that you're most likely to win the trick with the higher values have negative points on them and the lower values have plus points
basically on them and you also if you win some tricks you're going to especially have the possibility to score points that you didn't play because you get some dice you can play instead of cards and also you have this the majority of these X cards that you're trying to get like the second most of so I thought this was a really cool way of making you really think about when to get the tricks because you a lot of the time you could win it but a lot of the time you really didn't want to and the most important thing you have to be in it to win it the reason I could have chosen Co for this is because I think it really reminds me of the way I play when I we play Tango that's the two- player trick Taker and it's very different it's yeah game game next up we're going to have pies which is the other trick taking game from which isn't really a trick taking game it's a trick taking game but you don't take tricks you take cards from the trick and you use those to fulfill recipes for Price mhm and you can also get pie tokens which gives your cards a 3.14 betterment okay are you ready yes one two three boom it's double C and I was on the edge oh yeah me too I was on the pie I like that you like the pie I like the pies but I like Mori better than the pies I agree and there's so many trick taking games and we're not going to play all of them again this was like it was a lot of fun I enjoyed like the and it's a bit mean because you
steal cars from people you're trying to do things that are bad for other people but I actually liked it but now we're calling it why I don't know because we have too money Mone keeping it insteading it I'm not okay I'm not going to miss it I'm not going to look on myself of trick takers and be like where is yes but I like the recipe fulfillment thingy that was cool sarda yes this is a a a new version of an older game let's do the thing yes one two three boom it's a double keep this was really fun I really like this you have uh you play cards to put out different units on the map what playing cards and new mechanism in board games I like a Concordia you're playing and then you take them all up um but you're playing a lot of units onto the map like meols and buildings and ships and you are trying to focus on these different regions that are being like randomly said like drawn that this is going to score now and also the map is on the inside also in the box and I thought like it was a a lot of game in a very short amount of time and very interesting in a lot of interaction anyone can score at any time H and you you want to be where it happens to get it happens yes I really like that next up we are going to have Around the World in 80 Days this is a review copy H by
the way thank you for to Johnny pack he tweeted about it and that was the reason I got it have it cool so let's do the thing m one two three four I declare calling War Call War okay this is not the worst roll and right I have played I'm calling it a roll and right it's a and right you are drafting it's a draft and right you're drafting cards the interesting or cool mechanism is that the cards are rulers so you kind of know how long the routs are because you are traveling the world and you have to have trains to travel on the ground you have to have ships to travel on the sea you can also travel in the air if you have a balloon uh and it was interesting it was fun enough it was fine but it's not I'm not going to look at it on the shelf and be like Oh I like that but if you are a big fan of Android games you might like this yeah it was unique with the rulers kind of and you don't you can't measure it up before you buy the card and you're also trying to because the cards cost money and time so you're trying to not spend too much of either resource you don't run out of it and also it's like a a patchwork where it's a lot the player who has spent the B time because you're both in the same timeline so you have to be in the same timeline do you have another game now yes I do it is the AIS of cat that's du another review copy this came out of nowhere I had not heard about this being supposed to exist and then we had it in our hands for a lot of yeah you don't hear about anything we
like IO cats yeah we do we we K it I think I don't think we yeah I don't think we maybe you kept it I don't know I I don't think so because I don't haven't seen it in a while but it is a great game we enjoyed playing it many times now let's do the thing one 2 3 four boom no I'm saying four I don't know why I'm saying four I'm supp to say boom one two three boom boom double call but this was another one like for example another game there I didn't like this one I liked I enjoy puzzling I enjoy doing the things uh you're supposed to speak about how is it different than the draft basically is the main difference and it's bit simplifi there's no baskets but you are drafting by you have a board which is both cards and tiles and every time it's your turn you have to move these little cat two spaces and you get to either take the B uh the the thing basically card or tile where it started where it went through or where it landed and you're trying to place it so that you get what you want but also so that the other player cannot go to the place you really want to go let's say I want to go over here and it's there I want to move some there but you can't get there but maybe if you go there and I can go and take it and stuff like that so it wasn't interesting kind of dual in that kind of way and the Tet minow puzzle is the same as in Alo cat so if you if you like that I think you're going to like this one yes it was fun yeah I agree again it's like a dual two-player game that's not one that we going keep most of the time but it was happy to play it if you saw our game video a game video video game or video about having way too many unplayed games we talked about a game
that we had for the longest time called odil yes and we finally played it and it was so hard to get played because it was a 30 minute game and the rules took me about 10 minutes to read and at least like 15 to teach so all in all 55 minutes I don't think you could have found that time anywhere else yes finally we did it we played it and now let's do the thing let's do it one two three boom it's a double c i if this was in 2012 yeah I would have kept this easily because it's a fun game I think also the year that we acquired it 2017 I would keep this because our collection was a lot smaller and also we didn't we didn't almost only play new games that's true this is one I really enjoy that it's kind of going to be weird to not have it on the Shelf because it's always been here but the thing is it was fun I enjoyed playing the game I enjoyed doing the things I did you have like you are getting Resources by placing playing cards to get resources and those resources are shown by placing mles and you sometimes have to pay for the resource and then you are getting money which is the back of the cards you are then building buildings that you have drafted H or reserved whatever you want to call it you are building those build buildings into a shared town and depending on where you build it you're going to get different bonuses and income and then you're also going to get some special abilities but when somebody when there's not enough abilities everybody goes to reset those abilities
and you get them again points the ability it's an interesting little game a quirky little thing I like but I it's it's too many games too many games too many games next I know R said that we should keep it now it's called sorry too many games cannot keep them all board games now um Scott pilgrims precious little card game let's do the thing yeah one two three boom horrible game let's get rid of it and never talk about it again yes this was just so boring I like the first I think five rounds it were just like cards with a resource that you didn't have in your and you were just like oh I do nothing your turn do you have any more games I have one more you have one more that game do next up another one we had for a long time I think this was then 2020 uh is is florenza X anniversary a a a old Euro game from 2010 this is the 10 year anniversary some Chang I think we have never played the original let's do the thing yes one two three boom double double call it was fun but there is so many games that are way better the thing about this game which we also saw another game recently did the same thing the inaria which you're spending a lot of brain power on the things that are
not fun yes you are because in this game a lot of the game is what does these 16,000 different things cost and do I have the things that I can use to buy it and very often for me it felt like what can I buy I'm going to buy that or I'm going to make that artwork which is the main point of getting points or I'm going to build that building because that's what I can do which resources can I get I can I can get these three resources that means I can build this thing let's do it I'm going to do that and there is a weird thing we didn't play with it because there is luckily an official variant where you don't have to randomly roll a die to see how many points you get that's so weird in some of the cards when I read the rules I was like okay that doesn't sound too bad if it's like the difference between two and four points that not too bad but then there's like some cards if you roll a one you get one point if you roll a six you get seven and in a game where you end up with we end up with like the you had like six or something and the other plays had like 90 something I had 86 90 and 94 something like that yes she had less than that but the the thing yes I remember now you're just giving yourself some points points I had 108 I won actually I randomly had roll the die and get a one instead of seven I would just lose the game because of that it's kind of weird I like the things that you did no the things that the game did I thought that was fun but as you said the it feel feels like work when you have like for first off there's no player
rate in the game so I felt it was hard to get like a hang of all the details but there is a play for all the things that the cost so it has like the art on one side and the buildings on the other so I was sitting with that like this the entire time and of course if we played more that's going to be better but also it was a bit long it looks like this this is this is the information you're getting I don't like that at all and this like a lot of information a lot of the information on the one side it says on the board but it's hard to look at it because it's so much it's upside down and far away from you it was a fun one but uh I'm happy because it do one of the this is one of the ones on the shelf that I really wanted to play yes and we are going to work that way I think now I'm going to pick games that I'm very excited to play instead of and also older stuff trying to get a lot of that we got like this was older this was older and this was older that was great the rest ones we all got in 2024 even though there were not all 2024 releases so we kept two games and we called Eight I'm so happy and I think this is kind of how the shelf of Shame is going to be mhm mostly hopefully less keeping hopefully best and worst best and worst best is going to be sard and we going to be Scott Pilgrim's boring little stupid game and that is the end subscribe to the channel because we make more videos like this you can watch them with your eyes or just listen to them with your ears and this is the end thank you so much for watching thank you so much for making the video with me
because if you didn't do it it would be boring and nobody would like it thank you so much you're all awesome and we hopefully are okay I'm Johannes I'm s and you've been watching board gaming ramblings and bye-bye byee by
