My Favorite Game I Played Today - September 21
[Music] Hey everybody, I'm Tom Bassel. Welcome to Friday, no Saturday. We'll fix that in that inning of the World Series of Board Gaming. We're talking about the best games we played today. And do you know what the best game I played? Well, we'll tell you in a second. Let's go to everybody else first.
>> All right. So, my favorite game from the Saturday today is The Hobbit. There and back again. My favorite game I played today is The Hobbit Bear and Back. >> A new rolling right from Riner Canitia. >> I like the IP and I love rolling rights as well. >> Uh I've had a chance to play through the whole thing.
So I already have some thoughts that I'll share when we do a review. >> I wasn't quite sure after I played the first scenario cuz I found it to be a little bit basic, but the more I played, the more I was just drawn in and wanted to keep playing. >> Today I was able to teach it. Uh I've taught it a few times already this week.
So it's a really interesting uh take on rolling right. So had an opportunity to play a couple different maps which all play very differently and super excited to dive into it again tomorrow. So it's going to be it for me today. The Hobbit there and back. We'll see you tomorrow. >> Hey everybody, Z Garcia here and I want to tell you about my favorite game I played today.
That is Seven Wonders Dice right here. Uh this is gosh what now the fourth Seven Wonders game and they're still coming out with quirky and interesting things to do with it. This one's a rolling right got a board. You'll be marking things on the board based on some dice you've got on the table to shake them in this tray and then they sets the faces and the values.
I think this is the part I really really like. It's always interesting to try to come up with a randomizer that is quick and random enough and I think this little tray here achieves that. This is going to get you quick results quick, you know, quick shake and then all the values are random. All the faces are random and everybody's playing at the same time.
So, the game keeps a nice pace. There's a lot to do. There's plenty to think about. It has all those same ideas of seven wonders, different things to build, various, you know, abilities, but it moves at a nice clip and you're always involved. I think that's what I really liked about it. So, seven wonders dice.
Uh, one I really enjoyed today. Hey, Joey Evans here and it has been a long day and I'm about to go to bed. But I think the best game I played today was Code Names. Ended up playing with Tom, Jackie Fox, bunch of designers and stuff. And honestly, I haven't played Code Names in a long time. We actually did that live, so you can watch it on our channel.
>> And not just a game of code names, but one that Joey will lose >> or win >> badly. >> Badly. >> Either way, I could win badly, too. >> It makes me realize I got to get that game out more. It was really fun. And each game came down to the wire and not going to say anything, but I won both games. >> And that's how you played >> undefeated in code names for today, I guess.
>> Well, here I am in the Game Theory tables lounge. You see there's a uh coffee table over there. There's a couch over here. There's many, many more tables over on that side. Uh, so I'm here to report that my favorite game that I played today was a thrilling exciting game of Acquire. Acquire is the Sid Saxon Classic.
It also happens to be one of the games that's for tournament play on two days from now. Whatever that's Saturday is the Anyway, Monday. Monday. Uh, so anyway, I'm going to be commentating on that. I wanted to play acquire brush up on. I'm really comfortable on this couch. I'm kind of tired. Acquire fantastic game.
I'm really comfortable, guys. But acquire is very neat. stock driven game. You feel like a business mogul as you're building up these hotel, these empires, and you're having them merge with each other on the board and having these takeovers, corporate mergers and acquisitions. It's a very clean game.
Very neat. A lot of math and the paper money in most editions is the the biggest downside of it. But it's so fun trying to manipulate these stocks and these shares. Do you get instant payment now or do you hold on to shares for future benefit? It's such a great game. A classic for a reason from 1980.
Anyway, Acquire, my favorite game that I played. And now I'm gonna nap in public. My game is actually, well, it's Freya Swamp. Um, I think the rule book actually says that a little bit nicer. There you go. Fya Swamp. Uh, this is a really fun worker placement game in which you are you're placing different workers out, but then using those workers to move boats and establish colonies.
It's a remake of an older game of which I can't remember the name, but I really like it. The Mo's artwork is absolutely fantastic. It offers a lot of good decisions. There's a lot of kind of interaction back and forth. Very much enjoy it. So, that's my game. Thanks everybody for watching. There's more to come from the World Series of Board Gaming.
