10 Board Games We're Adding to Our Collection

Board Game Hangover Oct 11, 2026
Transcript 16:10

I'm continuing my quest to find the best Lord of the Rings board games out there in the world. A while ago, there was this Bellatro video game that sweeped the world, and now there's a board game version of that. The huge Primal Awakening board game, Boss Battler, that was this huge now can be found right here in this little box. How did they fit it all in? Just like your ego, it can stretch out. Anyhow, there's also a Nostalgic expansion coming out, and we're going to see what's inside of it in a few moments. Did a ego joke make it make made sense? Did it make sense?

It never does make sense.

All right. Unstoppable is a board game that is a deck builder. Solo deck builder you can play with too that we reviewed a while back and we really, really, really liked it. Now, they sent us a fresh prototype. So, generally there's going to be more content like new bad guys right here and also new scenarios and also new cards to build your decks and stuff. So, just more content, which always is welcome.

Yes, more content is always great cuz with each new cool card you get, you also get a cool bad guy.

You can buy a new card and then whenever you do that, you have to add a bad guy on the other side of the card. So, yes, you made your deck better, but also you made the bad guys stronger. How the game goes is you have to defeat the bad guys right here to get these cards in your hand. simple, lovely board game that we really, really enjoyed. And now, what's new, Mr. Yans?

New gameplay rules and mechanics, cooperative drafting rules, double slot upgrades, dual faction core cards, threat and boss keywords. Never mind, that's just a rule because that's not that's there's a new difficulty called unbeatable. If that difficulty is actually like the name, why would you even try it? We going to rank them. How excited are we to play them? So very excited. Excited but not that much.

Very excited.

Very excited. I love me some expansions. This is new stuff for a game that I love. It should be good. So we'll try it and talk about it just like we will talk about this game which is War of the Ring or rather again expansions. We're adding expansions to our collection and this is everything that has come out to this point.

Are we going to have normal games here as well or just expansions?

Yeah. Yeah. We're starting out with expansions and then everything else will be normal games for normal people cuz we're not normal. We love expansions. So, we have opened up all three games, three boxes, three three expansions. So, take let's take a closer look. Zoom in in each one of them and see what it adds. For example, freaking amazing miniatures.

Yeah. Right. You said there those minis are better than the original.

Yeah, for sure.

This expansion adds new units to each of the sides that previously were only as event cards. Now you can actually feel them and play them, plus new events for each of the factions, plus new special dice that you can use. So I think this is going to be the best of three. So Lords of Middle Earth are kind of the alternative scenarios for what happened in Lord of the Rings, for example. What would happen if Gandalf, for example, would use the ring of power? And the Kings of Middle Earth generally adds more characters to the game. basically tells the story of specific creatures and things. So, zooms in on those specific story lines and more details.

So, the first time you play with an expansion, are you going to add just one or two or just go all three?

I would love to go one by one.

Okay. Which one is going to be the first one?

This one. I would love to see what if.

What's with this?

What if?

But what if

But what if this one's the best one?

What if Gandalf would put on the ring? What happens? So, all of these three go in a bundle deal. Of course, it's a bundle deal. So, probably above, right? I mean, I mean, that's not a question. I'm excited about this, but I mean, this is one of my favorite games of all time.

And the favorite universes of all time, favorite book of all time, favorite movie of all time. Is it actually the favorite movie of all time?

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Favorite book?

Yeah. Yeah.

Favorite everything of all time. Anyways, we're super excited to try it out and see what really you need to have for drinks. You don't need to have anything. It's still awesome game without anything. But if you have those, maybe it's even awesome. All right, the next one's going to be Diplomacy, the Golden Blade card game.

So in Diplomacy, the Golden Blade, each player represents one of the seven great powers of Europe in the years prior to World War.

Yeah, for sure.

Yeah.

No, no, it did not. Officially, the country is still some years away. As leaders of your great power, your goal is to acquire and deploy your units in pursuit of control over Europe. You will need help from other great powers. Knowing who to trust, when to trust them, what to promise, and when to break promises is the key to success. The round will start with you getting new cards. Then there is this discussion phase where we can talk what we plan. And then there's the actual action phase where we do things. And uh well, promises are made to be broken. Huh. So, how excited are you to try this? I'm quite excited. I love uh negotiation games like Hero Stand is one of my favorite games. Uh but maybe not as excited as like these are established values, right? We know what we're getting.

This is a dark horse. Uh especially that's a spin-off of a game. So,

but still excited.

That's why it's here. Just like the next game,

which is a continuation to Lord of the Rings, my quest to finding the best board games. I want to make the best Lord of the Rings board games in the world. So I have to try all of them.

Well, you know, you understand that you're actually finding second to 10th like place. You all know that number one is

we know who know

or or maybe there's going to be such a big surprise. You're like, you know what, Lord of the Rings is actually the second best game.

They don't know what's the best. They know.

I think at this time if you know Lord of the Rings, you know the story. You have to help Frodo take the journey from Rivendell all the way to Mount Doom and destroy the ring. Duh. And this is sort of an adventure game. It's a simple way uh how to live through that story. And you have to do all of that before the bad guys take over and you lose all the fate. In the roll phase, you'll roll dice twice. So you'll choose a dice for the good guys and the bad guys. And then do that one more time. Good guys, bad guys. And then depending on the rolls, you'll use the cards. And uh and that's it. Simple. And then the next player does the same that when you get to the Mount Doom, there's going to be like the final stage of the game. Yeah. Like works a little bit different, but generally that's that's what you do. Quite simple. It's it's a very good first complicated co-op game

for a family, I think.

Says 10 10 and up. Let's try it with fouryear-old and I'll get back to you. Okay. So, for you hardcore gamers that love Lord Rings, this probably will be a mess, right? It's a light enjoyable game. But if you hardcore gamers that love Lord Rings, how maybe kids or family or some non-gamers with you, I think this might be fun. So here here where?

Sure. To the left. To the left.

To the left. To the left. All the Lord rings are going to be up there. And then you know

I asked you. You could you could you could impact this. How is this my fault? You agreed.

I'm going to go prepare the next game. You continue renting. Okay.

He agreed with me. It's not my fault that Lord of the Rings is that good. It's actually Tolken's fault.

You still He's still doing this. Let's go. The next game. Come on.

I mean, all we need is here. There's Lord of the Rings and then it's Lord of the Rings.

In the last video for games of the month, we covered this game which is a good representation of baseball. From the same company, same designer. Trian Tan comes a game about basketball. So, the goal of the game is to score the most points like in the basketball. You will play cards to maneuver your players around the board and if they're not covered when the time is right, they will swoosh and get you points. Also, there are these star cards. If you're in this exact position, you score extra points and the other player will just try to block you. So, feel-wise, it is similar to the baseball game, just the basketball game.

Yeah. And it's also pretty simple. You play those cards and then check if you score or not.

So, how would you rank this one? I would rank this here.

All right,

cuz uh give me a good basketball board game. So, it's right there. Let's see if the next game will be higher up than that. It's going to be Lower Rings again,

maybe. So, they promise to replace this box with this. This is a solo version of this.

Oh, so you can only play it with one.

This now is a two-player version of this.

Oh, so you can only play with two. So this is now a three player version of the

Oh, so you can only play with three.

There's you can add more to add more players, but in general they fit everything that's inside this box theoretically right here.

No.

Yeah. So generally takes this boss battler with that has tons of minis into a solely a card game.

So if you don't care about minis, this might be the way to go.

The cheapest and the best way to play allegedly cuz we haven't played it. Let's open it up and see what's inside and how it actually plays. And also, we have playmat. So, let's see if it looks better that way. In each of these boxes, there are two things. Number one, you get your unique character to play. And the other thing is you get your unique boss to fight against. And this is also what made Primal the big box so cool. You have your unique monster right here. First of all, it looks amazing. Look at this. Which will be only triggered when you play something. For example, the bad guy, the monster won't do anything unless you deal damage to him or unless you play a card with this exact symbol. So, I shouldn't play these cards because I will trigger it. I should work around that. And the other cool thing is your unique character because it will have its own unique deck that you will be able to use to destroy the bad guy. For example, this card has this effect, but it will only trigger if your previous card also has this symbol. Then you will trigger it. And the next card might use this card to make it stronger. For me, it's in the unstoppable range. I would say even here, before opening the box, I wasn't this excited, but once I opened it up and saw how it looks and that it has kept everything that I really loved about Primal, it's right here. I think we'll ask Mr. Giannis for a while. So, I'm going to steal one of his games and tell you a little bit about it and then

hopefully he'll be back. I said a joke about him that he didn't really like. So, I think he just crying somewhere. I'm sorry. What got us interested in this game is that it looks like those indie video games, maybe like Terraria. So, we got really interested in trying it out. So, this territory has become very urbanized. There's a lot of buildings around and you these little spirits do not like that. So on your turn, just destroy one urbanized region and place your little influences right on top. Then if the whole row is full of forest, you check who has the most influence there. For example, the blue player right here, right? So then he takes control of the castle. So that's generally it. You try to control the most valuable castles. And well, that's simple. It looks lovely. It's looked cute. But how excited are we to try it?

But I feel like all of these have more of a story and personality to it. So, I'll place it right here. Maybe Mr. Yiannis will not agree. But, uh, this is the least excited we are about all of these games. We might be wrong. We don't know. That's why we will play all of them. So, let's finish up our thirst for some Lord of the Rings, the last game in this theme right here. Let's open it up and see if it also is just as good as the previous adventure game. cuz this also is an adventure game. So in this board game, yes, you do go on adventure. You open up the adventure book, place any characters where they are needed or maybe some special tokens or things, and then well, you read the specific rules for the chapter. During your turn, you can move around any characters, for example, like this. You can pick up cards, these are the special story cards, and fulfill tasks. And the tasks might be that you specifically need these three cards. And once you get them, you can fulfill a objective on your turn. Like right here, we do not stop till nightfall. You have to have these icons and then you get the reward, which is you complete a chapter. And there are bunch of these chapters. And all illustrations are from the movies, which for you movie geeks will be really exciting. So once again, a pretty easy and straightforward board game. And I'll rank it somewhere um along the same lines as the adventure for Mount Tomb.

It's somewhere there. I don't know which one is better, but I'll find out in just few weeks time. Next up is Zombie Princess which is a sequel of sorts to Rebel Princess. Do you remember which we have played it?

We have. Zombie Princess is a trick taker. What that means is one player will play a card of a certain suit. This is a paw suit and everyone has to follow suit and the number highest numbered card will get the trick. Get it? They take the trick and those usually are points. So, how does this differ from any other trick taker in the world? Well, first of all, you'll be one of these princesses which have special abilities that change the way you play. And the other thing is at the beginning of each round, you will flip a card that will change how this round is played, plus how many cards you're going to pass to your teammate or the other players. Yes, teammate. The biggest difference from the previous princess game, Rebel Princess, is that you can play in teams now. Two versus two versus two or two versus two, but you can still play individually. So, let's see how excited are we try this. Take trick take off.

So I like trick taken games a lot.

Yeah,

I like quick and quirky ones and this is a really pretty one. How did you know?

I don't know. I guessed actually. I just move it one by one and then saw when he reacts. So

how'd you guess?

Magic. So this is inspired by the video game Bellatro.

But is it actually?

Yeah. How do you know? because they sent us an email about it and they said it's inspired by Batro. In Bellatro, I mean Deco, you play poker to well win a lot of money. You start out the game with a simple deck of cards, but during the game you will be able to add new cards to that set deck with special powers. And if you haven't played poker, well, you bet your chips and then play out your cards to see if you make the strongest combination. Whoever does get those chips. Unlike normal poker, you have these joker cards which completely break the game and have different special abilities. And yes, you can use your winnings to buy new cards and add them to your deck. This looks juicy. So, how excited are you to play this poker bolatro version? I didn't enjoy bolatro that much to be honest, but the board game version of that playing against other people gets me kind of excited.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Basketball win. No. No. Okay. Unstoppable wins.

Yeah. Like this.

Yeah. We are this excited to play these games. Well, we're really excited to play all of these.

All of these. That's why they're here.

But uh those ones the most. How would you like to see content about all of these games? Well, that's exactly what you're going to get if you follow the channel. So, thank you for watching. Yeah. Bye. Which one? So, which one first? That one. Okay.

Trick taker.
