What Board Games Don’t Fit Neatly Into a Category? #boardgames #tabletopgames #cardgames
Transcript
What board games have you played that don't seem to fit neatly into any category or type? They are their own thing. Here's a few games that I love, but I struggle to describe. Tether is a two-player card game where all of the cards are mirror images of each other. So, if you see a 37, I see a 73, and we can use those things differently. Spaceship Unity is an adventure storytelling game, but you have to use your household items in order to complete the story. For instance, you'll be like raising the blinds up and down to act as the shields for your spaceship. Ghosts of Christmas is a trick-taking card game where you can play cards into the past, the present, or the future, and you can play them in any order you want, but they will reveal and execute in temporal order and affect future timelines. A Message from the Stars is part clue giving, part word association, part deduction, part math.
It's funky, but it's cool. Gloom is a clever party game where you have to rewrite a phrase, but following some restrictions. Like, for instance, how do you say the phrase "Who ate the last cookie?" using the fewest vowels and no words over four letters long? I have a board game comedy tour coming up soon, a whole hour of stand-up all about the world of board games taking place in board game venues. Sign up for my newsletter at grantsgamerecs.com.
