Board Game Breakfast #544 Star Wars Day, Eh?

The Dice Tower May 5, 2026
Transcript 57:58

Good morning everybody and welcome out to Board Game Breakfast episode 544 here on the Dice Tower. My name is Chris Yee. I'm Wendy Yee. Good morning, I'm Eric Summerer. Hey, it's a little thing called May 4th. You ever heard of May the 4th? It's International Muppets Day. It is? Is it actually? That's exciting.

I I assume so. I see Michael in the chat say time to light the lights. So I don't know. That's not Star Wars Day at all. But Eric's wearing a Mandalorian shirt. I am. It's it's my my mashup Calvin and Hobbes um Mandalorian shirt.

It's good stuff, Eric. It's good stuff. You wore it for the right holiday, folks. Today is of course Star Wars Day. We're going to do the worst Star Wars themed episode ever. Um we're looking very much forward to it. But hey, uh before we jump into the festivities of this particular episode of Board Game Breakfast, want to say a few things. First off, do you want to play games with Eric Michael Summerer? I do.

Wendy Michael Yee? I don't.

Christopher Michael Yee? I do. Oh. Oh, well then you can come out to Dice Tower East. So Dice Tower East registration is open right now. dicetowereast.com and we got a couple of samples of things in here that we're going to be showing off. If you like free stuff, I do.

Do you, Eric?

Jinx. Do you like free bags with which to tote around your stuff? Free bags that mess with the white balance of your camera live on the air? Does it come pre-signed by Mike Delisio? So this is just an example of you know what? People like having little memory memory keepsakes and stuff. I punched myself in the face on camera. Hey.

giving a Sharpie. No, I'm sorry. We're giving a Dice Tower East branded permanent marker pen to everyone that shows up at the con. Have people sign your bag, make it a little keepsake, a little customized memorabilia type of thing. And you've got a custom Sharpie, which is pretty rad.

You know, people say that conventions like this are like summer camp for adults. It really is true. So you have to have your your yearbook signature. But if you stay in the hotel block, you get access to an upgraded bag actually.

Ooh, this is canvas too. This is Mhm. It's not that cheap plastic stuff like the other one. Wow.

some of us wear the shirts with this pattern here. This is what the bag's actually going to look like. Uh very cool custom Cthulhu artwork and everything. For everyone that stays in the hotel block, plus you get two other little things here, one of which custom door hanger for your hotel room. Do not disturb.

Do not disturb side, Dice Tower East side. And a board gaming passport about the about the convention itself. So this is something that uh the crew made little custom doodles that we put in there and it's in a little place to put your notes if you want to track game plays and stuff in there. If you want to uh you know, keep track of different memories, different people that you played with, collect signatures of people from around the convention. Uh and so yeah, there's a couple of different little prompts in there for you, a couple little custom doodles from the Dice Tower staff. You can go ahead and guess who doodled what. The best one? Not mine. Guarantee that. And hotel rooms are still available, right?

Yeah, hotel rooms are still available. So go check out dicetowereast.com uh for for all that. But anyway, it's super cool to see the samples of the actual stuff we've got. Yeah, it's very exciting. Uh the other thing we want to talk about is Grip Mats, but I'm actually going to let Chris talk about that right now. Here's past Chris talking about our our fantastic sponsor, Grip Mat. This show is sponsored by Grip Mat who makes custom play mats for many of your favorite games. With their custom grip surface, you can keep cards and tiles in place without worrying about messing up the game play. Or you can get one without the grip surface if you just want a great looking mat. Whether sprucing up a hot new title or an old classic, consider picking up a Grip Mat in the Etsy link below.

[screaming]

All right, it is eye catcher time. This is where we talk about um something that we're excited about that we've noticed coming up. Uh sometimes a board game, sometimes a video game, sometimes a movie like uh movie trailer like in the chat. They were talking about Spaceballs 2. Mhm. That's true.

that is not my pick. Uh so I'll start out with Eniji. So this is um So it is Eniji the the summer the Japanese summer festival. And this is actually a reprint or just a bringing to a larger audience and kind of a a redoing of a game that came out a couple years ago. It sounds like it had a very very small footprint. Um there's like no reviews on BGG or anything like that. But anyways, it's coming out uh this year. And it is about this Japanese summer festival. And so you're playing a bunch of little mini festival games, but they're not the typical games that I'm used to at like America carnivals, right? It's not the throw the rings on the ducks or get the ping pong ball in the in the cup, but instead it's like you have a paper bag and you need to see how many fish you can catch with your paper bag without them ripping out the bottom.

And uh there's like a little memory match mini game and some push your luck games and uh just like a few different little mini games and then you're trying to collect prizes and rewards so that you can then give those prizes to uh goers of the festival. I think so you make friends or something. But anyways, it's it's cute. It's very cute-sy and I I love um just adding that different cultural paradigm to it because I didn't know that the fish game was a game, but that sounds like a great game. Yeah, paper fishing net. Yeah. Yeah, how big of a catfish do you think you can get with that, Eric? This big. Ooh. Oh, did Eric freeze?

[gasps]

We froze Eric. Uh-oh. All right, we're going to try we're going to try some surgical precision operations here. We're going to boot Eric and then we're going to bring him back in. Do I know Do I know how to do this on the fly?

Can you guys hear me or am I just frozen?

Trout means kick out? We can hear you now. Oh, that's weird. But you were That was just voice of Eric Summerer. And you're frozen on a big old smile. Look at that. Yeah, it's actually a really good picture for you to be frozen on. It's not like one of those awkward like in between a scratch. Like I need to scratch my nose. I mean, I'm used to working this way. No one can see me. I'll just talk. Yeah, if everyone's okay, you know what? We're going to fix this in between uh breaks here.

Yeah, that sounds good. So We'll just keep going. Yeah. You're a minute early anyways. I

Eniji. Yeah, Eniji sounds really cool. Mugen Publishing did uh Kiriai the Duel. It was really good production for like a little 18-card dueling mini game. Uh and so yeah, I'm excited what else they're going to be coming out with. And now uh I'm going to share my eye catcher and then we'll get to a very frozen, very smiley Eric. Uh so mine here is I last last episode I also shared a Bitewing Games campaign. This is an upcoming one from Bitewing Games and they just keep crushing it. Uh they have a solo series of games coming out now. One of the big ones they're pushing here is Rolling Deep, a Peter C. Hayward game. And it's a a a Balatro inspired uh dungeon delving uh what do we call one of them? Rogue light rogue light kind of games. And so you're trying to see how far you can get it on this journey to the center of the Earth by doing this little push your luck dice game kind of a thing. Uh looks ridiculously good. The artist of the game is one of the people who worked on Cuphead the video game. Uh background designer and and artists and stuff on the actual video game franchise. And so she does this obviously does noodle arm thing like fantastically.

And it just sounds really cool. It's also going to be paired with Eureka, which is a Reiner Knizia uh Niffel, I think. It was like a a his little solo game take on Yahtzee that never got bigger wider distribution. So this is going to be a really cool one-two punch. The one I'm more excited about being Rolling Deep cuz it just looks so stinking cool and sounds so good. So anyway, that's my eye catcher this week.

It's fun to see those upgraded dice effect being used again. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I I like that element to dice games. And so yeah, it's fun to see that that has been Someone created that and now it's being used Created for Rattlebones. Yeah. That game went places. And Rolling Realms, that I think the same dice were used for that. Um Uh solid solid. Yeah, the got mhm. Not Rolling Realms.

Galaxy. Roll for the Galaxy used it.

used that. No, it wasn't Rolling Realms. It was um K R Dice Forge? Dice Realms. It's a Rio Grande game. I'm I'm just completely Dice Realms. Dice Realms, yeah.

Dice Realms. Dice Realms, yeah. Rolling Realms Dice Forge didn't use it though, right? Dice Forge had a different system whereas these ones are a little more a little more bulbous and everything, but yeah yeah. I mean I think that's yeah, that's a very interesting hook customizing dice faces and everything, so so stoked about this one. Eric, what is your

this one's on my radar as well. But it's a nice connection because this is a sort of themed around a retro video game. I also have a retro styled video game to talk about. It's called Titanium Core. Uh this is a difficult to explain game. Oh good. Mechanically mechanically it is a match-three style game also tower defense. Uh so basically you are at the the the rounds of the game are split into two halves. So in the first half you are making matches like you would in any match-three game, collecting resources, um but then it also afterward consolidates that map that you just did all the matching on and that's now the map you need to defend. Like your castle exists on that grid and you're moving around and matching things and and everything and then you have to spend the resources to get uh defenders and spells and effects and all sorts of stuff to defend your castle from invaders and collect more resources. Um so mechanically that's the game, but story-wise um it is bonkers. Uh it is based loosely on Shakespeare. Um you you've got Puck uh and and so it's like a Midsummer Night's Dream. Um you are you're cast as the fairy queen for some reason um and you're trying to figure out why that happened and you're trying to figure out what's going on. Um every time you win a round you get to

then explore the castle and figure out what is happening and figure out some new goals to achieve and more information about the world you're in. Um and so it's it's a little rogue-light um rogue-like rogue one of the rogues. Um and and no no round is really the same. Like I I try and define what the game is like, but it's hard to say because every time you play something weird is going to happen. Um and suddenly like one time I didn't I got to the boss and I didn't have to fight the boss. Instead I had to listen to a musical performance about spawning salmon. Which was not safe for work by the way and I I kind of wish they had warned me about that. Look at that huge smile on your face though as you say it. I did You liked it.

It is true. Um I have been intrigued by this game. I want to play more of this game. It was a bit of a time sink. I had to walk away from it for a little while so I could get some work done. Um but I I am delighted by Titanium Core. Okay.

Is it only on Steam or is this like an app?

So far it's only on Steam. I think it would work really well as an iPad game, um but I have not seen that transition yet. Right now it's just on Steam. Cool. This sounds so intriguing. Oh it is.

strange and it reminds me of all the times that I played games like concentration on our old MS-DOS computers and everything. Like so they nailed the look obviously. Uh and while pixel art has been very common like this particular look has not really been done to death which I find interesting. I like the choice of colors. Yeah, just that

The color palette just yeah.

harsh color palette when you were limited to like, you know, six colors you could display on the screen at a time.

It also does some fun things with music. Uh a lot of the soundtrack is an electric guitar, um but it's sort of a weird haphazard style um and and it's it's unique for sure. It looks very indie, yeah. This is Huh, interesting. very intriguing. Wonderful pick, Eric. Uh not as good as my pick, but wonderful pick nonetheless. Wendy, wonderful pick. Not as good as Eric's pick or my pick. Just kidding, I don't know.

Wow. I like the summer festival. No, this is cool. All right. Well, that folks is our eye catchers. Let's see if we move here. Oh, Eric's still smiling. Uh all grins. Baron grin it, Mr. Summer. We should we should do the same smile. Oh, this way. Just try it. Just look off to the side.

All right, this is the high quality content people come to the Dice Tower for. We're going to do some fixing behind the scenes, but we're going to jump to one of our contributors and we'll be back with our top 10 list.

Hey, let's talk about a weeknight game. This is one that I picked up right before Christmas on sale for my um uh friendly local game store. Shout out to Games Unlimited in Pittsburgh. I love them. And this is a two-player game. I have some friends that really enjoy this one and I finally picked myself up a copy and I think it's really cool. This is Agent Avenue. This is a sort of deduction I split you choose push your luck almost a little bit. And so in this one you are a secret agent versus a secret agent. You're both kind of living on the same street and you're trying to catch each other. Think like I don't know, Mr. and Mrs. Smith sort of without It's not that action There's not that much action in this game, but this has some really cool elements especially with the card play. So you're going to have these cards and they're going to be different characters living on your street I suppose and each one's going to allow you to move around this board in different ways. Maybe forwards or backwards and depending on the number of cards that you have of that kind of card. Say you have the squirrels. Let's say the squirrels and you have one squirrel. One squirrel is going to let you move one space. If you get a second squirrel now you could that lets you move two spaces. If you get a third squirrel or more it lets you move three spaces. Some of them are negative. Sometimes they're positive.

Maybe you only want two of that one cuz then you get to move six, but once you get the third one you move back one. Maybe that's helpful. Maybe that's not helpful. And essentially as you're playing the game you're going to put one card face up, one card face down. Your opponent takes one of those two cards. Looks at you know, they take that and then you get whatever's left over. So it's a little I split you choose there. And there is just a really interesting card play and how you're trying to pin your opponents like on this weird little this weird little track. You're just trying to pin them down in the right spot so that you can catch them. Lot of really cool stuff in this one. Really light 10-15 minutes on the box is super correct. I think this one's really cool. Agent Avenue, check it out. I think it fell a little bit under the radar, but I also think it's a really cool one to check out.

New intro. New intro. New intro? New intro? Yeah. Garris the animator has been busy doing a couple of things. That's not even an official one, but we're using it anyway. We stole it. The top 10 list time, baby.

in the 10. I think it's it makes sense. That's awesome. Anyway, it's time for the top 10 list and I get to lead things off now that I'm unfrozen. You can see my arms moving and everything. Oh, angulation.

arm guy. Yeah. Um so it is Star Wars Day. May the 4th be with you and uh well we considered a super trolly awesome top 10 list. We decided to go on a deep dive this this weekend and find our favorite bootleg Star Wars things. This was especially true when the original movie came out. Kenner was not ready to have the figures out. And so while the movies were distributed everywhere in 1977, the toys took a while to arrive. They they were late getting to the US in '77, but they didn't get overseas at all. And so to fill the gap there were choices made, let's say. And so we have heroes made.

We have found some of our favorites. This one's a little weird to do cuz usually in a top 10 list we each pick three things. That leaves one choice for you in the chat. Unfortunately, you can't share images in the chat, so you're going to have to describe your favorite weird odd knockoff Star Wars thing. And I will be selecting one of those at the end. You could be number one. But we're going to start off with my number 10. This is a Turkish Star Wars figure. It's called Headman. Um This and I love how I love when there's a knockoff of Star Wars how they get around not calling it Star Wars. So it says Stars War. Um And then Headman who has a He's got a sword and a shield and a silver helmet. Um And this is actually incredibly sought after. This particular figure they expect to go for like $80,000 because there were so few of them made and kept.

They they looked so junky that people didn't really hang on to them. Of course. I mean who who doesn't love Headman? Um so that that is my number 10. Headman. Is Headman a bounty hunter? Oh dear. I mean he's at the top of the organization. Yeah. You bring in three more bounty hunters who each bring in three bounty hunters.

You two could be Headman. That's why his hat is gold cuz he's the top. All right, my first one is not a toy. It is actually a movie. So I grew up watching this movie and it actually has a decent Rotten Tomatoes score. I think it's in like the 80s, but it clearly has some crossovers with Star Wars and was inspired from in many ways and this is The Last Starfighter. So you have this guy in a trailer park who's like down on his luck, can't get into college, can't get the scholarship he wants, whatever and the Intergalactic whatever space force that there is accidentally puts this training machine, which is really just an arcade machine, in the trailer park for The Last Starfighter and they use it to train their recruits and instead this kid that you know gets this amazing top score ends up being recruited by this you know save the world galaxy organization.

Anyways, the parallels with it with Star Wars are definitely that you know there's like one kid. He is The Last Starfighter so he's not the last Jedi, but you know The Last Starfighter. That ship looks a lot like an X-Wing.

No, very legally distinct. Totally different.

some special skill that you know not everybody has is he can play this video game in this cool like pew pew pew pew pew pew pew the chair moves kind of situation. Yeah, I I remember really enjoying this movie. But I don't remember a ton from it. I was watching clips and I was like I don't remember like any of this. It's yeah, it's I don't think I've seen it since I was 12. I've never watched it, but apparently it's not bad. Eric, are you familiar with this one? Oh, this was certainly part of my childhood. Oh yeah, I saw The Last Starfighter a lot. The music is great. I love the theme and I remember that big red button. Don't push the big red button until the finale. Um Yeah, and at one point the guy takes his face off. I remember that being a little disturbing. The the hidden alien.

Um yeah. [snorts] Every [clears throat] once in a while when I when I look for things like like movie posters or covers and stuff, you see a little gem from yesteryear like the fact that this says this is advertising it's the widescreen edition.

Back when that was necessary to notice. True, it's true. Well, and rewatching the clips of it that spaceship so that was like computer animated or whatever and I remember watching it on my CRT TV and being like that ship looks so real. And now I look at it and I'm like wow, that looks like a you know a Windows 95 3D rendering of a spaceship. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, age does that.

So does high-def TVs. They ruin everything. Yeah, yeah. That's true. There's a phenomenal video. This is a little bit of a tangent. There's a phenomenal I'm going to talk about Star Trek thing. Heresy. This is great video series from RedLetterMedia or the one it's a one-shot video about all of the issues that you can see watching Star Trek The Next Generation when it came out on HD Blu-ray edition compared to like the broadcast quality of it. You can see the marks like the little dots on the carpet where actors are supposed to walk up to and stop. You can see where the back panel like that beautiful black glass display of the of the bridge of the Enterprise was catching stage lights. So their solution to it, which worked in broadcast TV days, was to tape black pieces of construction paper up against it to block out the the areas where the where the lights were reflecting into the camera.

It looks so shabby but it looked great. You know. Yeah. Yeah. It's like the opposite of the Marty McFly like oh you your your kids aren't ready for this, but your parents loved it.

All right, number eight coming from me here. What more can be said than Sonic Phaser? Yes. Oh, is that the thing that made like the pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew? I think you're thinking of the internet.

This also had a voice changing device on it like you could talk into it and sound like a Cylon. Ooh. Legally distinct Cylon. I love the fact that they got around that's not Han Solo. Han Solo doesn't wear a red cape. Yes.

Totally different. So yes, what more need be said than Sonic Phaser from Kus on? Nice. All right, I'm going back to some bootlegs from outside the US. This is a collection of Mexican Ewoks um that look like one that they're melting, two still friendly, three they need dental work and perhaps an optometrist. Um these are these are nightmare fuel. They all they look edible. They look like they're made of chocolate. I don't know if I agree with that, Eric.

Made of chocolate but not necessarily edible I think is where where I'm at. You're they they look like they're made of wax, I guess. Yeah, I just can't get past some of the expressions on these Ewoks. Um they're they're stellar right there. That's my number seven. I don't know how friendly they look. The guy in the the one in the back with his hand raised. He's like hey, come on. He looks he's not waving at me. He's ready to lay down the hammer. I think I think this is evidence why a lot of painters do not like doing eyes on their miniatures.

The guy second from the left, seriously. Uh Oh, some of my minis eyes turn out like that sometimes. The secret is to put the dark paint over the top like you do the white eyes first and then you outline them with the dark to get rid of the the giant massive eyeballs. Oh my goodness. Okay, um onto mine. My next one is actually a company that did a mashup between ET and C-3PO and this was E-3PO. Um So I found on Reddit someone had actually found the links to a bunch of Instagram pages for this company and the website and everything and they have all been removed. So I assume there was some sort of like trademark issues or something. Someone had an issue with this maybe? Yeah.

But yeah, you too can have a shiny golden ET. 3PO.

Robot guy. Yeah. That's that's what he is. E-3PO. So this this species is shown to exist in The Phantom Menace when they showed like the big Senate scene. Oh yeah, yeah. Like the ET aliens are there. So this is still a star a far stretch but slightly less.

could work mid-world. It's true because all the all the translation drones, what do they call those guys? The the protocol droid.

droids, yes. All of them look the same, but why do they have to look the same? You know what this looks like? It looks like ET got sucked into that supercomputer from Superman 3. Yes. And now it's you know the drone.

Oh, my clans in the chat. He can phone home in 6 million forms of communication. Oh, that's nice. Number five coming from me here is a movie. This is also a movie that I learned about. I watched some of it this weekend and this is called Starchaser: The Legend of Orin. A young boy who lives on a desert esque planet is whisked away on adventure when he discovers a magical hilt that has an invisible magic laser blade that projects from it. He escapes his junky home planet with the help of a of a scoundrel smuggler who is infatuated with his robot lady by the way and they go to rescue a princess and defeat the bad guy.

The parallels are stunning. Wow, yeah, mine was inspired by yours is just written by.

Although that second image does look a little like He-Man. That looks like Teela right there. This is definitely a mix of that 80s animation style. Your He-Man, your your Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. It is it is like that type of thing. Also some very inappropriate things with robot lady. So no no no, I mean some people love this film. I see some people in the chat who actually quite like it and I think that there is plenty of it to be enjoyed. It is just very uncanny. This it's yeah, this is this is Star Wars animated Star Wars from 1985. Starchaser. There you go. All right. So I my number four before I get to my number four, I I want to remind you to to put your favorite bootleg Star Wars thing in the chat and maybe we'll make you number one. You never know.

My number four, who can forget the big scene in Star Wars when Darth Vader gets on his police motorcycle and tracks down crime. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that's Star Knight. Um This is Night Rider, right? Yeah, this is this is how

Rider? This is Ghost Rider.

Um it's got mystery bump and go action. I don't know what the mystery is, but it it has it. Um The mystery is why does it exist? Batteries not included. Yeah, yeah, Star Knight. You bring bring your favorite scenes to life with this fine product.

But does this make those repetitive noises that the the gun makes? Oh, I I have to make them. Beautiful, Eric.

Oh, my Just stunning. Oh, it's me, huh? All right. So, I was looking at the past, right? Like you mentioned, Eric, the the old toys were especially like terrible. And then I realized that we have these amazing cheap websites that have terrible knockoffs today. So, I went on to Temu and I decided to look to see what magical gems you could purchase and have in your own home right now. What you got for me, Chris? I got

Oh. Yoda and eyeless Chewbacca. Okay, so Yoda looks really old. Like I know he's old. That's Danny DeVito. It was real bad.

thinking it's Michael Scott. You want to be a hero, kid? Well, whoop-de-do. They can do that. Disney owns Star Wars now. Oh, sure.

think it's Billy Crystal, actually.

So, then I saw this Chewbacca and I was like, "Oh, okay. He's got so much fur you can't see the eyes. Maybe they forgot the eyes." And then I flipped to the next image and oh, they didn't forget the eyes.

They got them just spot on. What? Also, why did they advertise the backside of a doll first?

Because they knew you wouldn't buy it. The point three percent of people that they're like, "Oh, yeah. I'll get that."

I love how the photographer left the tag on the butt, too. Like I should have recognized it was from behind from that very thing. That's true. That's true.

Yeah. So, it wasn't

seems to have a an actual Star Wars copyright link on it. This might This might just be terribly put together. You know what? Everything on Temu has official Star Wars uh Oh, yeah, that's true. They just copy that.

That's true. Even the Avengers stuff. But uh yeah. Yep. That's uh that's

Oh, we just got that. Took me a second.

I love the Waldorf and Statler of Yoda.

All right, my number two uh comes with a quick story. Uh back in the day, my family had an R2-D2 telephone. This is a novelty corded phone. Uh and my brother and I both were just, you know, we're reminiscing one day and saying, "I can't believe our mom got rid of that." You know, I bet like a fun little R2-D2 prop toy telephone would be worth something. You know, this is like 10 years ago we're talking about this. Uh and then eight years ago, after we reminisced about how cool this R2-D2 phone was, we looked back at pictures uh from our childhood and saw that it was not an R2-D2 phone.

Trash can robot phone.

We had

Oh. We had this. Robot phone.

the arms actually move? Articulating action. Wow.

That's what you need with the phone. Of course, and you just and not have the buttons on the on the actual, you know, handpiece or anything.

like it's like flip phone style. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So, this was just a a travesty. Beautiful uh beautiful novelty phone of the era. And that's the thing that kids these days will not understand. Novelty corded phones. Anyway, that's my number two, robot phone.

Well, I mean, Eric's first pick was worth money. You sure this isn't worth money? Did you look it up on eBay? I didn't look it up to be I'm pretty sure it's not worth money.

It's because no one uses phones. Yep. Oh, yeah, the soft button press. Uh you couldn't really tell if you actually hit the button. Yeah, this phone is a travesty.

Eric, what are we picking as the number one from the chat?

So, we're going to scroll back a little bit. Both Joseph Ferguson and Richard Saunders mentioned this at almost the exact same time. I Richard described it further. Uh there was a parody short called Hardware Wars where Alderaan was a basketball hanging on a string and when it exploded, the phrase was, "It's a peaceful basketball." I've I've never seen this. I almost want to give a partial credit to the person who who put Yoda down and played to the judge. Um nice try, but no. I I think hardware I'd never heard of Hardware Wars before. Um but this sounds like uh a fascinating parody that I will now need to spend a while tracking down. I cannot find it in the live chat, but yeah, both Rich Saunders and uh oh, yeah, yeah. And

And uh Joseph. Yeah. Hardware Wars.

I have not heard I've heard of Thumb Wars. I've heard of uh the Robot Chicken stuff. There's so many so many Star Wars parodies and stuff out there, but I have not heard of this one. And so, I believe that this coming weekend we're going to be going into the uh deep recesses of the dark web to learn learn plenty about this. Well, there you go. A very successful top 10 list. I don't know what happened there. That was weird. Uh we'll be back, folks, after one more of our contributor blocks. We'll see you soon. Hey board gamers, PJ from More Games. Happy breakfast, everyone. Today, I'm here to talk to you about Quest for the One Ring Dobble, which has The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings characters all smooshed into a normal Dobble experience. For those of you that don't know Dobble, most of the time what you're trying to do is match symbols.

You have a card with eight symbols on. In this case, it's got the likes of Legolas and Gimli all the way through to Mount Doom and the Balrog. And they are depicted in cartoon form and you get eight of them on a card. Another card has eight and there is exactly one symbol that matches across the two cards. You just have to find it quicker than anyone else. They might have their own card that they're trying to match with, so they might be looking for a different symbol than you, but that's how it works. It's fast it's fun and it's frantic and this one even has a small Lord of the Rings twist. There is one mode which I think it's just normally called the tower. In this, it's tower of Sauron and someone gets to be the ring bearer and there's a bonus symbol of the ring on some of the cards in the deck. You slap your hand on the deck as soon as you see that and you become the new ring bearer. Three bonus points at the end of the game. And if you want and we like to, you can also add the stipulation of you have to shout my precious when you do so. Other than that, this is more a Dobble experience with Lord of the Rings characters and stuff on it than anything Lord of the Rings

y. You're not going to be getting a Lord of the Rings feeling adventure here. It's Dobble, but with different characters. However, I would say though, I've had a lot of fun with this as much as I have fun with other Dobbles, although we do sometimes get into the sort of fastness and forget things and just go, "It's a white wizard." But anyway, that is the Lord of the Rings Dobble Quest for the One Ring and I'm going to call it Dobble. I know it's called Spot It in the US, but over here, it's Dobble. Um but yeah, enjoy the rest of your breakfast.

All right, folks. We're having a little bit of issue here. We got Dobble Dutch, Chris. Yeah, we got uh Hey. [clears throat] We got no Eric Summerer uh video

She's here. because of uh I'm here. I'm there. Yeah. So, we apologize. I'm literally using in our streaming software the Zoom connection uh that is supposed to be optimized for our actual streaming software for e cam. And the Zoom feature is not working. So, we've got the voice the disembodied voice of Eric Summerer from the void. Uh Oh, I wish I had a little puppet. Here, Eric, talk. Yeah, we need an Eric Summerer puppet that we can use for this situation. It's talking. Here you go. I have an an Eric Summerer puppet. Yeah, well, that doesn't help us right now, does it?

No, not really. You could send it to us. That's not not by, you know, in the next minute and a half. No. Mm. Fine. All right.

gosh, this has babies? No, you can turn it inside out. Oh. Yeah, you want to you want to have grilled Eric Summerer? It comes what? Oh, it literally has red beady dead eyes. And an apple in its mouth and it becomes a roast pig. Oh my goodness. Well, he can't talk like that. I love that I'm only seeing the delayed video on the YouTube now, so I have no idea what's going on.

Where's the apple in his mouth?

Oh, I do I mean, I don't know. I'm making that up, but he's definitely a roasted pig. Okay. Let's let's reverse it.

me a roasted pig? Exactly. Nobody calls me a roasted pig. Uh so, little bit of weird a little bit of weirdness here. But what we're going to do, folks, is we're going to jump into our game show.

game show.

It's game show time. And Chris has been keeping this under wraps. I have been.

Big secret secret. So, thankfully, this is a game show. What in the what in the world is happening right now?

This is

It's all going great. Nothing to see here, friends. Nothing to see here. Okay.

Literally. Yeah. Um All right, hold up.

It is on Chris's screen.

Uh yeah, it's supposed to be It's supposed to be that channel. So, not that.

It was so upset that Eric is not visually on the same screen with it that it is protesting. Me me thinks the Uh, might be more than just the Zoom connection. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I'm I'm not how you say thrilled with eCamm right now. Uh, so let's go to our game show. Hey, it's a little game called Star Wars character or not. Oh. So I'm going to present to you the name of a of a character or a person or a place or a thing

Okay. and uh, you're going to vote yay or nay whether you think it is a Star Wars character. So So you're saying I have a 50/50 chance I might actually get a point. Yeah, absolutely. So we're going to keep track of score here uh, and in the final the final three rounds they're going to be worth uh, double points just to kind of keep things spicy and interesting. So Wendy and Eric we're going to keep track of your scores here. So let's start with a a a simpler simpler character. Uh, I'm going to present to you a name. Wendy you're going to say yes or no first. Eric you're going to say yes or no second and then we'll just alternate betwixt you two. So

Okay. tell me whether you think that Slowen or not

No. Slowen Low. I vote no.

Oh, do I have to answer on this one too? Yes, you'll be you'll both be answering every time. Slowen Lowen is a character. Eric you receive one point. Slowen Lowen is the name of one of the one of the purveyors of Canto Bight as seen in Star Wars episode eight The Last Jedi. Fantastic.

Wow.

Slowen Lowen All right, next

out of options. Next up, how about Nute Gunray? Eric do you believe that Nute Gunray is in fact the name of a Star Wars character? Nute Gunray is a Star Wars character. Wendy I believe in Eric. I'm going to say yes. Uh, yes Nute Gunray is one of the Trade Federation bad guys.

Oh, wow. From from episode one and everything. So each of you get a point.

We got a point. Good job trusting Eric. How about how about Dick Butkus, Wendy? I'm going to say yes cuz it's so absurd.

No, Dick Butkus is a is a sports caster. Oh. He was a Chicago Bears football player. Yes, he was a lineman. So Okay, I was like Chris had to get this from somewhere. Okay. Yes, one of the most unfortunate named athletes of of our time of yesteryear. Yeah. All right.

teased as a kid. Play along at home and keep track of your points. I'm curious put and comment them after the video. So how about Otto Addo o t t o a d d o Otto Addo, Eric. Uh, yeah Otto's in the Star Wars universe. Otto

Yeah, I feel like I know this guy.

You don't. He is a professional football player European Football League soccer we might call it. In in the Star Wars world they call it Canto ball. So yeah. Quitich, right? Otto Otto Addo played for the Ghanaian World Cup team. So nope, Otto Addo not a Star Wars character.

There's a guy there's a character named Otto though, isn't there? In in The Simpsons?

That's the Syracuse mascot.

All right. How about when starting with Wendy Tobias Beckett Star Wars character or not? Yes. Because it sounds like not a Star Wars character and so far all the Star Wars characters soundy names have been not. So I'm going to say yes. Okay, Tobias Beckett Wendy says

say no on this one. I think that's a real person. No, that is a a Star Wars character actually.

that Eric didn't get. That you did. That you did. So yeah, Tobias Beckett Han Solo was his protege in the Solo A Star Wars Story movie. Next name starting with Eric Burt Gummer Burt Gummer sounds like another sports caster. I'm going to go with that. Okay, Wendy Burt Gummer

to be opposite just to be opposite. I'm going to go Star Wars. You think that he is a Star Wars character? Incorrect, he is unfortunately from the movie Tremors. We did just recently watch those.

So Eric got that point. Eric is currently leading four to Wendy's two. Uh, but this is where fate turns around I'm sure of it. Uh, Eric you or wait no who just went? Eric went first, right?

Eric went first, it's me. Wendy how about Maher Shalal Hashbaz? Oh, that's that's not a Star Wars character. You think that is not a Star Wars character? Eric Maher Shalal Hashbaz to you. I'm going to say yes Star Wars. Eric you are incorrect.

character. No, he is the son of the prophet Isaiah of THE OLD TESTAMENT.

WENDY YOU'RE AT THREE AND uh

I recognized that name from somewhere.

four. All right. Next up Soon Bates s o o n Soon last name b a y t e s. This one is going to go to Eric first Soon Bates. Yeah, that's a Star Wars character. Okay.

No, it's not a Star Wars character. He is in fact a Jedi master. Yeah. Oh. Yep.

Cool. Good for him. Good job there, sir. His name was a bit of a joke that slipped past editors and so Master Soon Bates is a canonical Star Wars character. Uh, that was a point to Eric, yeah?

Yep. All right. Next up starting with Wendy or starting with Grayther Crake? Grayther Crake Oh, I'm going to say yes. Grayther Crake Eric do you

I'm going to say yes and maintain the lead.

There's a flaw to my game I see. No, Grayther Crake is a is a character from the steampunk novel series Retribution Falls. Oh. See if I really [clears throat] wanted to have done my research I should have found a book that Eric had done the narration of. And picked an obscure name.

Then it would have looked really familiar for him.

[clears throat]

Yeah, yeah could have gone either direction, right? Yeah. So yeah, people criticize the Retribution Falls series for having some of the worst fictional names out there including the likes of Grayther Crake. How is the actual series though? I don't know. Has anybody in the chat read that? Let me know. Is it worth my time? Yeah, to put up with all of the bad I think another character's name was Samandra.

All right, we've still got we've still got a few more before we get to double points here. Okay. All right. Next name Maximilian Veers starting with one of you two. I think I'm going to say

with Eric. Yeah, Maximilian Veers. Veers, that I feel like I've heard the name before but I don't think it's from Star Wars. I'm going to say not Star Wars. Then I'm going to say yes in attempt to get points. Your attempt to put get points is correct, Wendy. General Veers is the one who led the land assault in Star Wars episode five Return Empire to the the bad guys do the thing. So bad guys do the

I wonder how many people named Maximilian go by their full name as an adult. I I got to assume Maximilian's one of those names that just went the way of Jedediah, right?

That guy absolutely goes by Maximilian. Oh, he does.

100% yes. All right, next name starting with Wendy Boof Bonzer Boof Bonzer, I'm going to say yes. Yeah, I think that's a Star Wars character. He is not. He is a professional baseball player. Wow.

He got teased too. Good old I know.

Yeah, and I skipped past all of the ones that said Summerer and then I found the good stuff. All right, [clears throat] let's see how many do we have left. Okay.

Enough for me to catch up. What What's the points currently, Chris?

Currently it's Wendy with four and and Eric with five. So it's a one point game. I know I know. Who's going first? It is Eric's turn. Eric how about Abeloth? Abeloth a Star Wars character or not? No, that's not a Star Wars character. No, it's not a Star Wars character. It is a Star Wars character.

That's horrifying. That's not Star Wars.

It is a cosmic horror entity that has only taken place in the Legends timeline not in the current canon though has been teased in the current Ahsoka series. Whoa. So yeah, get get ready for some cosmic horror in your Star Wars. She has

She has tentacle hands. Tentacle hands, yeah.

Oh, imagine painting those nails. Mhm. But a pretty smile. Yes, exactly.

That's how I would describe that.

Yeah, a little lipstick will go a long way with Abeloth.

She needs to conceal some of those teeth. All right, next up name starting with Eric [clears throat] Elan Sleazebaggano Elan Sleazebaggano Is it really my turn to go first?

I think it's mine. Oh, I don't I don't know these things. Yeah, I'm not in charge here. I'm going to say this is a Star Wars character. Yes. Yes.

I am pretty sure this is definitely a Star Wars character. You want to buy some death sticks? This is uh

Sleazebaggano is the name of the of the drug peddler in Attack of the Clones. No, I He's He's just out of generally sleazebaggish. I don't I don't know why the word sleazebag just comes to mind when I think about describing him. Uh All right. So, currently the score is five to six. Now, I think what we need to do There are four characters left and Eric has pointed out the flaw in my game design. No, there are three characters left. So, how do we do this? Um

Whoever is behind had against the last pick on the last question. Yeah. Yeah, how about that? So,

starts? So, Eric, you are one point in the lead to Wendy. These questions are worth two points for no real reason and the last one will be worth three points or four depending on what makes the game more exciting at the end.

What lets me cheat and potentially catch up? That How about negative points if you're wrong? I mean, that also works. Yeah, neg All right. So, Eric, starting with you for a two-point question. Is Salacious B. Crumb Salacious B. Crumb, B as like a middle initial B, period. Salacious B. Crumb, Star Wars character or not? Salacious B. Crumb is a Star Wars character, yes. Wendy? No. I'm sorry, Wendy. Salacious B. Crumb is the name of Jabba's little He's famous. He's a big He's a He's a big He's a Muppet. So, yeah, that was advantage to Eric. Yeah, he had so much confidence. I should have just followed [clears throat] him.

All right. I can catch up on the last question. I'm trying to explain that like no, but then Wendy will know that I know what I'm talking about.

Yes, yes.

All right.

[clears throat]

I've now decided the next question will worth three points as that will potentially tie up Wendy to Eric and make the final more interesting. Uh I think. I don't know how this works. Uh Excuse me. Starting with Eric. Is Bobson Dugnutt a Star Wars character? Bobson Dugnutt is from Home Improvement. He is not a Star Wars character. Mm. I'm going to say yes, he is a Star Wars character cuz I think Eric is lying. Purest teeth.

Well, it is correct. Bobson Dugnutt is not from Home Improvement, but he's also not from Star Wars. He is from a 1980s or 19 early 1990s Super Famicom Japanese-only baseball game where they had to come up with various American-ish sounding names. So, Sleeve McDichael, you have Daryl Archideeld. Uh such classics as Mario McIllwain and and Todd Bonzales. This is

Bobson Sweemy? Nice.

Yeah, this is a treasure trove of just amazing made-up American names.

Wow. So, Eric gets the three points there and so the next question to keep this nice and and tight. This is a 27-point question.

[clears throat]

How do we do this? I think this has to I think I have to go first, right? Yes. For all the bananas. And yeah. All right, Eric. Is Captain Swag a Star Wars character? Captain Swag, he's a hero. He'll bring

is definitely a Star Wars character. Definitely a Star Wars character.

Definitely not a Star Wars character. Captain Swag is definitely a 27-point answer Star Wars character. He is a a Chiss pirate. Uh Chiss being the same species as uh the famous uh Grand Admiral Thrawn. Is he both of those characters? I think he's one of them. Okay. I can't tell.

purple, one is blue. Yes. But uh wow, Mike Heller literally threw out the term Chiss pirate in the chat. I think that Mike has gotten uh I think he's batting a perfect 100 in this. I think he got like Yeah, I think he got 37 points. I think he did. Yeah, well, some of them were worth three points early and then made up one and so yeah, Eric gets 27 points here. So, the final Wendy's final score is five and Eric's final score is 38. Uh I

Hey.

I think that that's a very fair turn of events. I think I got more than one point. You did. I think this is a record. Yeah, you potentially crushed it. You might have beaten some people in the live chat. Yeah. Yeah, it's it's like uh it's like kinetic.

now. Like I can't potentially Well, I mean

There's no potential. If you got fewer than five points in the in the playing along at home, go ahead and comment below and we're going to check and compare Wendy's score of five to everyone else's score. This is like are you smarter than a fifth grader? Remember that show? Are you smarter than a sleazebaggano?

The answer is no. My daughter's in fifth grade next year. She knows what stem and leaf plots are. Nice. What are stem and leaf plots? I don't know, some sort of graph. I think they're the graphs that have the dots on them with the line and the dot and the line. Not like a li- like like the ones that show a vertical range, like possible range? Like the this graph. But there's I don't actually know. Like a line chart? I don't know. No, a stem and leaf plot, Chris. Eric, what's a stem and leaf plot? Uh it's a it's a plot with um so, there's like a stem and then there's some leaves that branch off of that stem. Hey, look in the live chat here, Maximilian Gray says Wendy beat me. Hey, I'm I beat Maximilian cuz of his name.

All right. Well, there you go, folks. This has been another successful Star Wars Day spectacular episode of Board Game Breakfast. Uh we'll be back if the folks at Lucasfilm do not sue us into oblivion. But uh

If our Instagram pages and website pages all magically disappear it was Sleazebaggano's fault.

Eric, do you have any final send-off announcements or anything upcoming episodes of the podcast and stuff?

Uh new podcast on the way. We're going to talk about ways to maintain hype when you can't actually buy your game yet. Oh. Okay, I thought you said height at first. How to maintain your height? Stretching, yoga Calcium. Get one of those up

Really important, yeah. Get one of those upside-down flippy tables. Yep, yep, yep. Yeah, how to maintain your height? And nothing went wrong.

neck machines that extend your neck, too. Ooh, yeah. Yeah. Elevator shoes. Oh, yeah. Do you like that? Yeah, Violent Frog in the chat said, "And nothing went wrong." Thank you very much for uh yeah, for for turning a blind eye to the Emperor's new clothes. Perfectly smooth episode.
