Dr. Finn's Book of Solo Strategy and Word Games Overview and Review | DaniCha
Transcript
Hi everyone, Danielle here. I'm doing an overview of Dr. Finn's book of solo strategy in word games. So, um I'm excited to go over this because this is basically something that I would bring on vacations on quick work trips or even um to do if I'm waiting on an appointment because you basically have a bunch of games that you can play with a minimal effort to set up because it's all in this book. You just need a writing utensil and four dice. So very very portable. Um there are eight games which you can see uh kind of their their logos here. We have Cosmic Run Mission One, Crunch the Numbers, Pen Pals, Leftover Letters, Spell It Out, The Little Flower Shop, Open for Business, uh Word Wrap, and My Perfect City.
So, um, and a special thank you to the creator of this, Dr. Finn, for sending me a copy of this to cover on my channel. So, I did end up playing one page so far of the first game. But basically, how to use this book, you write in it. You use a pencil or a pen and some dice. But what's cool is if you don't want to carry around dice or if you don't have dice, you could just scan this QR code or visit this site and you'll be able to use the dice on the website, which I think is uh very neat. And of course, there's apps out there as well. Um, this is uh solo, but it could work multiplayer if you wanted to. You just have to, you know, compare the scores and then if you want more, they do encourage you to sign up for the newsletter and then you can get PDFs from the site. Here
is a tracker for how you score on your um different playthroughs of each of these games and then of course share them on social media with them. All right, so here's a table of contents. So for each of these eight games, there's pages for rules and pages for the sheets. All right, so the first one that I ended up trying was Cosmic Run Mission One. And this is kind of a game that's right up my alley because it's got that space theme. It's got obviously dice and it's a very easy game to learn how to play. Um, and there's a bunch of dice mitigation. So, when it comes to dice games for me, um, I prefer games that can, you know, modify dice values versus just taking at face value when you roll it. And so, this game has, um, all of that involved.
So, just a few pages of the rules, very detailed. Um, I didn't have any any questions on how to play. Uh, what's neat is that everything's all in one spot, so you don't really have to go flipping around all over the book to look for it. So, you had the rules and you you go right into the the game sheet. So, this is one example. I did it lightly in pencil. Um, but as you can see, I did play this one out and there are, I think, a total of five sheets. I mean, eight. There might be eight total. So, you get to play this quite a bunch of times.
All right. You see all that? So, a bunch of different times you can play. And then you head into pen pals and you get all the rules for those. And that's what this sheet looks like.
All right. Then we have word rap. And feel free to pause if you want to just take a look at some of the rules here. Um, this one's kind of more of a word game, but it has dice involved, of course. So, I love love love word games. So, I'm excited to try these as well. And if you're interested in me doing any playthroughs of these, let me know. Um, they'll be pretty short videos, I think. But if if you'd like them, I'm happy to to give it a try. Next one is My Perfect City. Okay.
got some cat hair on me. All right, then the next one is leftover letters. So, another word game. This one you just use two dice. It says that was a quick rule set. So, you go get right into the game, which is good. And then we have the little flower shop open for business. Um, so I I believe the little flower shop is a a uh yeah, it's definitely a board game and I believe there's a even a dice version, too. So, it's cool that there's a variant here for a you know, a little workbook version called Open for Business.
This looks neat. I think my only um you know, as I'm flipping through here, you'll notice there's a lot of pages that are blank on the left side, right? It's only one-sided print um for the game sheets, and I feel like it was a missed opportunity. So, this this next one that I flipped through without saying it is spell it out, another dice word game. I feel like this this book could either happen a lot shorter, you know, less pages printed if they used thicker paper and double-sided printed it, but I'm sure there was a business reason or manufacturing printing reason that I'm not thinking of why they did it this way. We have crunch the numbers and this is going to be, I believe, the last game in the book. This is kind of a math-based game.
All right, there you have it. That is my overview of Dr. Finn's book of solo strategy and word games. Um, again, I do think this is kind of like the perfect gift for like a solo board gamer or even just anybody who enjoys playing, you know, things like crossword puzzles or word searches. This is kind of that level up in terms of something they can do themselves out of a workbook. Um, but yeah, let me know what your thoughts are. Maybe which one of these games you're most excited to try if you were to to get this uh this book. Um, I believe it's available on Amazon right now, so I'll put any links on the description below. Um, and thank you again to Dr. Finn for sending me a copy of this. All right, thanks so much for watching. I hope you're all doing well, and I'll see you next time. Bye.
