Heat. Heat.

Hello everybody. Welcome back to What's Happening? My name is Z Garcia. Hello. Hello everybody in the chat. Keith Wheeler Books. Janiro. Well, your name's Janero now. J Jennifer. Um, that one I cannot get over still. Team on. Everybody else lurking, you bunch of lurkers. I'm glad you're here. Anyway, Mr. Heler, hello guys. I hope you're having a fantastic day so far. I am about to jump into a little bit of a of a classic, as we like to say around here, a modern classic, which is probably a meaningless term, but that's neither here nor there. This is Seven Wonders Duel, everybody. Um, and it was recently on my mind because we just did, what was this? Uh, three weeks ago, two weeks ago, we did top 10 dual spin-offs off of bigger games. And this is one that was featured heavily, slight spoilers across the uh the lists. So, I'm going to jump back into it and and and play some more. It's something I've featured here before, but if you've never played it or never seen it, no problem. I think you'll pick it up pretty quickly.

All right. Have they added any expansion content for this yet? Uh, I'm not sure. I'm not sure. All right, let's check this out. Let's jump into it. Um, I am going to be playing against the AI. We're going to be drafting some starting wonders. It's my turn to draft. I am going to take this one. And then I draft again. I am going to take this one. All right. And again, this is all basically setup. We're just doing a little bit of drafting. I'll draft that. There we go. These are wonders that we may build in the game, but throughout the entirety of the game, only seven wonders can be built. Would you look at that? And we just drafted four each. So, there is definitely one that will not be built, possibly more than that if we just don't get to them. Um, the game is all about drafting cards from this little pyramid of cards you see at the bottom there. and then scoring points with those cards. The cards are going to either give you military prowess, uh, like the red ones there at the bottom.

That is going to move you along the military track you see on the left hand side of the screen there. Uh, if you push it enough towards your opponent's side, it'll start costing them money and might eventually cost them the win. You could just you could just uh claim victory that way. So, that's the red cards. The other cards that we see right now are those green cards with uh different pursuits of knowledge. Uh so I am going to claim that free military card right in the middle. Click on that and I'll claim that card. Uh come on. There we go. My opponent has built a wonder already. comes back to me and I can claim one of these. Now, the other thing I can do with a card is instead of claiming that card, I can throw it over here for money. Uh, or I can tuck it under one of these wonders and build the wonder itself. But I don't have enough money to do that.

So, what I think I'll do is throw this one away here for money, and then I will have enough money to build a wonder. Unfortunately, you can see as I reveal some of these cards, once I remove this card, the two beneath it, which are currently face down, will become revealed and my opponent gets first shot at those because, well, that's how that goes. But I think what I'll do instead is I am going to take this card. I'm going to use it to build this wonder right here. And then the wonder lists what I get. I'll show you. Um I'm I'm looking to build this one right here in the in the bottom. That one, the hanging gardens. It gives me six coins, three victory points, but I get to go again right away. That's a good thing. I'm going to do that.

Boom. I get to see these cards. And I get to go again. There we go. I am going to give myself some building uh materials which will stick around for the entire game. So, I'm going to give myself some of these bricks. Those are going to come in handy as things get um more expensive later on in the game. Z, do you still play Marvel Snap? I stopped a while back. I fell off that wagon as well, Keith. Um, it's been feels like ages since I I fired it up and played. Uh, yeah, it's been a while. I don't know why. I mean, I I do know why. I guess other things pulled my attention, but it's not because I got bored or sick of the game or anything. I still very much enjoyed it, though. The competitive nature is tough in that game. I am not that good at it. So it's, you know, at the end of every month as you start kind of climbing up the ranks and then they reset you each month, right? I just you start I I anyway would start getting definitely pummeled. I am not that good. So that if anything if there's any one thing I can point to as having kind of dimmed the game's light in my eyes and estimation, I guess it would be that.

But I definitely should fire it up again and play some more. Maybe I'll feature it on here again. Uh I it came up in conversation a couple weeks ago with Tom here at the office and uh yeah, it's just one of those things I'd love to get back to. [snorts] There you go. Show me stuff. All right, here's a card you haven't seen yet. These blue cards are just going to be straight up victory points. Uh, it does have a cost down the side in brick, but thankfully I have brick. I have that uh stone, I should say. It's like that terracotta and the stone. I have the stone. It also has a little symbol of what looks like a little drop next to it. That is a symbol I'm gaining from playing this card. And later on in the game, in one of the upcoming epochs, some cards will be free if I have a prerequisite. So, there will be a card later on that in the cost bar that you see where you see the the stone there will have the little teardrop symbol.

And if I have this one, hey, guess what? That's free for me. So, grab that. I am going to gain the ability to make glass. Okay. I'm going to make money from this.

Would Yeah. Yes, I would. There we go. Second epoch. And I am going to be the starting player here. Uh, like Marvel Magic the Gathering. Yes, I was actually just very recently and by that I mean like yesterday quite tempted by some Marvel Magic the Gathering. They've got I was able to find online some of those um I say able to find. They're available the um Magic the Gathering Marvel uh what are they called? Uh jump jump start packs or whatever. the ones that come like it's half a deck pre-built or a 20 it's a 20 card pack and then you take two of those jump start packs and shuffle them together and you have a 40 card deck that's ready to go. It comes with land and everything. So you just pick two halves, they're kind of thematically tied together. You shuffle them up, you're ready to go and it's about as close as it gets these days unfortunately to my favorite way to play the game which is just dual decks. In the past, they came out with these dual decks. Two decks sold together, good to play against each other. 60 card decks of cards. Um, they don't really make that very much anymore. Everything is now commander, which is a different format.

And so, jump start is a good, you know, it's a good approximation of that. H. Oh, here we go. We were just talking about this. This guy's free for me. I take it.

And I guess this guy is free for me. I'll take it. I'll take it.

All right. Now, things start to get interesting because I don't want to reveal stuff to my opponent who is rocking it. I don't want to give him access to Boy, I'm kind of making a push for the military here. So, I don't want to reveal a military card to them. I want them to reveal it for me. So,

I got to be careful I don't run out of money. Also, I think I'll do this one and just make the money. There we go. And now I can build this. Make a push there. I cost them money. I like that. They get to go again. Fine. I really want those six coins, but again, I give them access to the military card by doing that.

This costs me nothing. It might be worthwhile to start going into these. They are broke. They are very, very broke. They're probably going to take that yellow card. Yeah, I'll just build it. Dang it. What a butt.

I will gain this card. This guy sucks. I will Do they have glass? Yeah, he's got glass. M I will throw this away for mula cash. There you go, Jericho. I'll take that. Boom. Boom. And then this gets thrown away for money as well. And here it is, the last round. It's only three epochs or epox if you want to say it that way.

The broken beard like 45% altered 50% flesh and blood 5% Yu-Gi-Oh. What are we talking about? What's What does that concoction make? 16 ealb which is blaze backwards. Uh, I'm one of the vast majority minority, sorry, that prefer seven wonders duel to the Lord of the Rings version. I go back and forth. I like I do think mechanically I think the Lord of the Rings games a little bit better, but I'm also so much more familiar with this edition that there is a like a comfort food kind of feel to it. Both though very good and they're very close.

I'm going to make Wait, hold on. If I build this, I get three victory points and six coins. Yeah. Yeah, I have a bunch of money. All right. This guy here gets me.

Is that point per money? At the end of the game, this card is worth one victory point for each set of three coins in the richest city. I don't think so.

I'm going to do this. I'm going to build this wonder right here. I'm going to cost him three coins. I get three coins. Three victory points to me. And then I go again.

And I'm gonna get that. Yeah, you should be scared. Now you're broke. You're also a lucky lucky dog. I don't have the money to pay for that military win right now. Jerk. Um, I'll make the money just in case it's still there. Though it won't be, but he messed up anyway. No, he didn't. He pushed it back. A what a jerk.

I have him right on the edge, too. Um Huh. I mean, this is very, very good. This will get me a whole bunch of money and then victory points galore. So, I'll build that. Ah, okay. Well, there goes that idea. I just got to beat him by points now.

I will build this. This dude is gross. I am going to build this

Five victory points this way. Sure. He gets five. Fine. And then I'll do that. And I lost. Yeah, but I lost. Calm down with the defeat. wrecked banner. Okay. Like I lost by two points. Relax game. Also, could you be a little more dramatic? Immediately it's storming. My kingdom has fallen. I did fine. I lost by two.

Um, the broken beard. Sorry, Mike keeps saying like so and so do my comment about a Marvel snap TCG game. Yes. Got it. Okay. So, you're just making up a combination of what it would be. Yes. Actually did just play. Speaking of uh uh let's get off the screen. This is making me feel small. Um main menu. We're going to play again in just a second. Speaking of uh loser um a Marvel Snap, you know, physical trading card game and and the whole, you know, Altered and Yu-Gi-Oh and all of that. I did just play again, everything was like two weeks ago. Uh the new like brand new trading card game that they had a little sampling of at Gen Con.

It's called Hellbreak and it is it's based on an intellectual property. So, it's based on the Universal Monsters. Uh and it was really cool. They had just like sample packs. They had like uh you know, learn to play little samplers. But I tried it. We tried it here and it's it's really good. And the reason I you reminded me of it is because it does have that feeling of it is like 5% Pokemon um 40% It's like it's like 50% uh Star Wars unlimited, 5% Pokemon. It's got maybe 10% Riftbound because there's locations.

There's a little like maybe another 5% of the old Call of Cthulhu trading card game. It definitely feels like a good soup of this kind of stuff and it was neat. I liked it a lot. I think you are going to like it. Nins wins. Nins wins. Is that right? I think you're going to like it. Here we go. I'm going to try this again. It's the same jerk.

All right, I'm drafting first this time.

Okay. Okay. Okay, cool. Nins wins. And yes, their booth at Gen Con was great. It had a really cool um like a little playing space. They would demo the game to you with like, you know, they had like a little cabin. They kind of built a little cabin in the woods sort of feeling place. Really cool. Really cool. I don't believe the game is out yet, though. I know they have a starter pack or a starter whatever, which is supposed to be Dracula versus Jaws, but I don't think that's available yet.

Though, I've played with the sample pack, the sort of promotional whatever, you know, learn to play thing is was Dracula. One of them is Dracula. They had Jaws, but I haven't messed with that yet. and like a Sleepy Hollow and um Bride of Frankenstein. I'm waiting for more cards. Um take three.

Yeah, that's right. Time to build up my base.

Hold on. Let me look at these first. Um, no, that's okay. I'll throw it away. You know, they will pull a Star Wars unlimited twin son and have Dracula pair with Jaws, I could see that. Two-headed giant style. Yeah, do like a if you guys know the old uh trading card game Hecatum where you would like stitch monstrosities together, they could do that. You'd be like stack the cars together. Now it's Dracula with like a a shark face on his shoulder.

All right. So, let me see what I've got over here. I got that and that and that. If I manage to win, the other way you can win in this game is you've already seen me lose two different ways. So, that's great. The military, I couldn't quite do it, but I got very, very close by points, which is the only non sudden death way. So, military would be a sudden death. But then on the other side, you're seeing these green the green line there. Um, as you collect the different scientific pursuits, you get those tokens. And if I manage to get six different ones, then I'll win. And I have three of them right now. Uh, you also, if you get three of the same, then you get one of these special tokens.

It won't help you win the game. Getting like multiples of the same. Maybe it's not three. Maybe it's just pairing up. Forget what it is. But anyway, if you get duplicates, they don't help you like achieve six different ones, but you get these tokens, which are of course helpful in their own way.

I'll do that jerk face. I'll take money from that. Baby jaws strapped to Dracula's chest. Or maybe it could just be Dracula like surfing on the shark. Yeah, I like that one.

Select the first player. I get to select the first player. I will be first. Thank you very much. I am going to build this one right here. I get to look at tokens. Um I think the middle one, if I'm not mistaken, is another one of these symbols. Is that right? Yes. That's one that doesn't even appear on the card. So, if I take that, then I'm a little bit closer to winning that way. I have a new goal.

What a sucker. What a s Oh, he went again. Crap. I thought he was revealing that for me. The computer plays really well in this. Kind of hate it. Okay, back it off.

All right. All right. Well, if I do this, then I'll definitely be able to get that. I do need papyrus for that. So, I guess I'll put this in play. Now, I got a token. Here we go. Okay, so the tokens are I get to go again every time I build a pyramid. Uh, I'm sorry, a pyramid, a monument. This one is I gain the money spent by my opponent when they buy resources. If you can't afford the stuff that something costs, just pay money. And with that token in play, I make their money. Their spending comes to me. I'm a bank. I'm basically the bank. This one that gets me three victory points for each progress token. Yes. Yeah. A,000%.

Yes. I'll take this as cash sucker. Take that. I got another one of these. Um, I'll take your money.

I'll take this. I'll also I better win this game. I'm killing it. Feel like I am anyway. You know, free chain. Not free chain. I get six coins and then the chain pays me, right? Is what that means.

Come on. Show me what it means. I'm holding it. Yes. Immediately take six coins. Each time you construct the building for free through linking, you gain four. I'll do this one, I think. But go again. That's pretty good.

Um, I'll take money from that. Now, you'll also notice normally in this game when you take a card and throw it away for money, you get two coins. Okay, that's just the basic amount. But for every yellow card you have, you get plus one. So, I'm throwing away this card right now. I'm getting plus five because I have three yellow cards over here. One, two, three right here. So, this takes me up to 10. I select who's first. I Let me look at the boards.

Think I'll go first maybe. idea. Okay, I can't afford that red card. That's trash. I really want the card under the 11.

I'm going to throw this away for money. I guess I could have built a thing, too. Oh, wait a second. Wait a second. I do this. So, if I do that one, I do this and then I go again anyway because I have that wonder and then I build this. That gets me closer still. Better be careful, dude.

How much money do I get from this if I build it? One, two. So, if I build it, I get three coins. It's not costing me any. So, I'm getting three coins and three points. That's worth it. I'm giving them access to something, but that's all right. Yeah, I might be able to pull off a win here. Let's do that. I'm going to put this in play. Oh boy.

I'll put that in play. I don't like this whole military stuff. Guy guy, calm down. I don't want to spend eight, that's for sure. I don't want to spend eight. I don't want to spend that much, but I am worried about him destroying me.

Okay, I'm doing it. I'm building this. Back off. Okay. Oh crap. I can't afford it. He played me.

I can't do it. I mean, I'm winning by points, but I wanted to win by science. Oh, what a jerk. All right.

What a whole bunch of butts taking my uh scientific pursuit. Take that one. O, that's scary. Um, I'll build that and then I'll build that. You got smacked. Yes. Much better. Much better. Almost had him on two fronts, though. He almost he almost won with the military victory, right? The military victory track almost got me, but I had him on the ropes with science. I was able not to finagle that, but pulled out a win 76- 53.

So, that's good. 16 ELB. I played this before ever before I ever played Seven Wonders. And uh and when my friend taught it to me, I kept asking, "What's the tugof-war military or where's the tugof-war military?" Yeah, very true. I think that this game adapts Seven Wonders in a really like fantastic way to be fair. Three years into the hobby. Okay, nice. Still don't know what my favorite style of game is. My top three are Summoner Wars, Empires of the North, and Champions of Midgard. That one's a little bit of an outlier, but the other two I means you're my style of gamer.

Summoner Wars, Empires of the North. Cards with powers, man. That's a that's a thing, right? That's definitely my favorite kind of thing. Cards with powers. Empires of the North, certainly. Summoner Wars, uh, you know, Arkham Horror LCG, Marvel Champions, any of those things, like so many of that kind of game. Fighty, I build my stuff, you build your stuff, we interact and fight sometimes, but I've got access to that's the thing. I think I have access to my stuff that is in, you know, exclusively mine and and you have your stuff. Having a shared deck is fine, but having my own deck of that that's me. I'm this clan. I'm these people, this faction. That's fun.

All right. I did it. Well, there you go, folks. That's going to do it. I think it might be a slightly shorter What's happening today. That's two games and I am gonna call it right there. I'm more of a can't stop guy.

All right, folks. That's going to do it everybody. I really appreciate y'all tuning in. If you've never played Seven Wonders Duel, uh I'm playing on an iPad right here. As you can tell, you can knock out a game in about 10 minutes, 15 minutes. I I was drawing it out and I'm it's been 35 minutes and I've been chatting it up and and drawing it out. But yeah, you can definitely knock out a few games. It's a great airplane game. Uh and you can I'll show you this. You can do this playing face to face where you have two people sitting across from each other or you know is it across from each other? I think so. You'll be drafting. Yeah. See? And now it shifts to you sitting across from me and you draft a thing. Oh, I want this. Comes back to me. Oh, you take two. Comes back to me.

And then you draft. I draft my two. I'm just picking whatever. Then you draft. And now we do this. It's pretty neat. like you can s definitely sit across from each other and just play seven wonders do it without needing anything at all. It'll score for you. It's really really cool. Fits on an iPad screen just great. So there you go folks. All right, I'm going to get out of here everybody. Thanks very much for tuning in and checking this out with me. Y'all are the best. I'm going to see you on the next one folks. Have a great day. Take care.
