Transcript
hello everybody my name is IIA and my name is Tyler to we make up c a couple that loves to play board games and we're going to Essen no we're not not this year we're going to Essen next year but we're going in spirit because we've done our research we've looked at all the games we're excited about the games and we're here with a two-part series yes I wouldn't say we've looked at all of the games we've tried to look at all the games there's there's there's a lot thousands of games hundreds and it's hard to get through all of it it is hard to get through all of it so today what we're going to do is we're going to tell you about the 10 games that we would go visit by get demo take a look at that we're really excited to see at ESS now none of these games we have played before or demoed so this is uh purely on look or the research that we've done well okay not totally true there's one game in my list that I've seen on the table before but we'll but did you play it I've never played it no I got like a quick rundown of it and I'm excited to play it okay and in another video what we're going to do is we're going to recommend 10 games that we have played they're debuting or selling at ESS that we recommend for you to go play Dem by because they're great games we'll leave a link in that link for that video down in the description and at the end of the video too where you can click it okay let's get started me first you first me first my first game that I want to recommend that well suggest that I would go check out is called cats and Dragons cats it's a game from Randy Flynn so the person that designs probably more more
famously Cascadia uh and this game you are taking a role of a cat Army trying to defeat dragons and it's really cool you're going to be I think it's like one to four like obviously you don't know whole too much about it but you're going to be doing it better whoever does it better and I'm looking forward to kind of like trying that out I assume there's going to be some like asymmetric Powers but it's got some like SE movement to it going on and the Art of course is absolutely fantastic so it's got a lot going for it that I'm interested in taking a look at it yeah the cover won me right away it's from Pik games too who did flow so I'm excited to see what kind of happens with that game now my first game is Civ olution now you've probably heard me and us talk about this game quite a bit I think it's definitely one of the most anticipated games for both of us this year because it's a stepen Feld game it's a civilization type of game and just looks incredible there I I did finally get to see it on the table uh I think at Gen Con I saw it very briefly but I've not yet had to play it I really want to I think it's going to be Stellar MH yeah I look forward to it yeah I will say that both of our lists me and Ilia like we wrote out a bigger list and then we picked five and five because there were some overlaps and we've conveniently got five different games for you each of us my second one being a game called World Order I've talked about hegemony a few times
on this channel and it's like a very heavy uh economic like simulation type game and World Order is that they've they've done like a modern political simulation for this G for this particular game I think 2010 is like what they tried to base it around but you're going to be taking uh the role of one of the major Powers around the world and negotiating or going through that simulation to basically come out on top and it's very interesting because the way they did heeman is they took a lot of pieces at least that I have learned in my degree and um applied it to this board game it was very very cool to see so I'm excited to see what they're doing with world order I can't wait to play that one I think it'll be really good now in an opposite of cvoluion where seavolution is a pretty crunchy strategic game uh we have Roaring 20s where it is dinosaurs hence roaring but they're also dressed in 20s like the attire so it is the Roaring 20s like in itself it's the perfect exactly it's it's fantastic uh and it's a card game from De print games the art looks incredible and I'm really intrigued this is one I would definitely go and pick up and try out mhm yeah that sounds fantastic just from the description alone like the and I guess that brings me to my third game which is called saltford I I believe ILO is actually telling me that it's a remake of Santa
Maria Santa Monica Santa Monica I Santa one of them what I have Maria written down Santa Maria would be correct Santa cuz I wrote that down okay so it's a remake of of an older game older game and this is a city building like dice drafting game where you're going to be you like are part of a Norse Village Norse fishing Village and you basically are trying to prepare yourself for the long long Winters the designers in this game are incredible it's Isa Fenson Christian aosb and they just do such fantastic games and I'm really excited to see what this one has in store as well exactly my next game is Superstore 3000 now we did see this is from Space Cowboys okay and Space Cowboys puts out bangers there's not been a single game that has been a Miss from Space Cowboys in my opinion cuz they don't put out that many either there's been a Miss for you well I mean that's a different conversation oh that's spicy anyway um they do really really good games and we saw this in a prototype form uh earlier this year and basically you're just building a mall yeah and it's fantastic it's modular there's so much to it and I'm really excited to see this game flourish on the table cuz it's kind of you get to see the mall really expand over time you're building a mall together no you're building a you're each building a I don't remember because yeah yeah yeah there's malls involved it it is really cool the way that you build
things out I remember that yeah um but yeah now I'm just I'm just curious now what we'll have to have this conversation offline which Space Cowboy game not all games can be good games it's just like or let me rephrase okay games can be good but they don't necessarily fit into my realm of fun good games you know so not your type of game like to have opinions uh but speaking of building like malls or buildings or anything like this the next game I have that I'm going to talk about is called flat iron and it's very very interesting because you're basically building up a skyscraper but the way you do that is you end up like at least from what it looks like you end up placing your own tokens or tokens you generate throughout the game on things that you are able to complete to be able to build up so like there's goals that you have to be able to do to be able to build your levels up and then it just kind of elevates from there uh yeah it's from the designers of White Castle and red Cathedral so already I'm intrigued just from hearing that and then I saw some pictures of it uh and the skyscraper that you end up building and it looks super fascinating next up I have is Moonlight market so this is another family game from Queen games oh there's dble Wala now there's Moonlight market and it's actually the same designer who did aamra oh cool so it looks really cool I'm really excited I love this series green games continues to put out really good stuff so I want to check this one out this one would be
another one I would visit learn more about and likely pick up the walks and walk away yeah if you could some of them are just for demos I will say I will just make a comment on Queen game I wish we had more time to play them because some of the like City games like the um mares andana and things like that they're really really good but they take up like it's a it's a night like that's play the which there's with It's just sometimes in our in our group of friends we end up playing like multiple medium light to medium weight games hence Moonlight Market might be a great fit exactly yeah yeah um I have another two-player game I forgot to mention that flat iron I believe is also just a two-player game and this game uh is also two-player it's called Ironwood it's from mine clash games and basically it's a two-player asymmetrical game where you're hand managing and trying to take control of like the areas on the board it's like that head-to-head that you would expect to see in um a two-player game this is the game that I saw I believe last year at PS unplugged they had a demo copy set out or I don't even know if it was a demo copy I think it was just they had like a prototype setup and I was super intrigued by it and I'm even more intrigued by it now so that would definitely be something I would recommend be I'm really excited to play that one it looks really cool always looking for new two-player games too because I me as
you know me and Ilia play a lot of games and I particularly enjoy playing two-player games with just me and Ilia of course um playing like the games that are like one to four just two players is not as fun in my opinion now my last game is trios tros trios treos t r e o o s tros tros I think it's tros we'll go with that if it's not somebody please correct me in the comments um so this is a lookout game and Lookout I really also I think I'm really leading to the publisher uh this set of recommendation or the this set of like Curiosities I guess uh because trios it has a beautiful cover it's from Lookout games and it's an action point movement type of game where you're trying to get 20 gold okay because of 20 gold you can buy a lucky potion which is the whole premise of the game essentially and that's all you want to do is you just want to buy the lucky Po and then you win yeah you get 20 points and then you win yeah some uh it's it's a little bit heavier uh there's action points you're planning stuff I think in in you're planning in three phases and execution to but once one player has it they win um I'm really curious about it I think it recently actually also came out in general like Mass Market too or hobby stores not mass Market uh so I'm excited to probably pick this one up soon and try it out mhm yes yeah yeah so to add a comment about like the public publisher thing is when you go through for those of you who don't know you can go through the list on board game on board game geep geek and they've got a
list of thousands of games that are going to be there some of them of course are like over a thousand yeah over a thousand some of them are going to be like games that are um we're you're familiar with but they're coming out in a different language from a different publisher but they do filter it by publisher well you can filter however you want to filter uh they Auto filter it like the first thing you see is they filter it by Publishers so did find when I was going through it I was like o hang on I know this publisher I'll hang out there for maybe a minute longer um which which maybe I shouldn't have done because there's probably some really gem games or like hidden games that are not as well known maybe from like a solo publisher or like their first time publishing a game uh so those are the games that you folks should tell us about remind us to check out hey that's a great question of the day is there a game at Essen that you know about that we have not mentioned or talked about that you want us to know about would we can spread the joy we want to learn more there's so many good games out there and finding the right one for you for us is the task and exactly especially when you start to run out of space you got to really try to cater what games you really want to end up keeping well we can always turn the game sideways and then there's room for more games space but how do I know how beautiful this game is that's true that's very nice with that said thank you so much for watching if you enjoyed this video hit that thumbs up Buton button hit that subscribe button if you're new here cuz we make weekly board game content like this and how to play cuz we like teaching games we sure do and we're
going to do another video of the games that we've played and you should see it right here so click that see more SN recommendations and we'll hear about your experience soon mhm well we'll see you in the next one bye
