>> Okay. >> We're talking about Magic Con. Um >> could tell you more. Uh there was a live stream that I was hosting cuz I like a job to do when I go to a con. [laughter] Um and I was really grateful to get to be a part of the official live stream on YouTube, not on Twitch, just on YouTube because the Twitch is taken by the Pro Tour.
>> Oh. >> but they have two YouTube channels, so why not just stream all of the good stuff? >> Nice. >> So, um my job, along with Riley Knight, was to bring little clips of every little flavor of the con from all around. So, Riley was running all around the place grabbing video with our very own Matt Monahan as his producer.
>> Nice. >> And uh I would just sit and chill and play back play them back and then talk about them >> [laughter] >> with the stream. There's no VOD, but I'm hoping that they because there were some really big stage shows that get their own videos back to put up later, but they let they were live streamed, so that was really cool.
And uh and hopefully we'll get to release all of those little clips and interviews and stuff like that that we got to do. >> Right on. >> Uh interviewing Good Games Molly, interviewing Leonard Williams, interviewing the Command Zone team. Um so, I had an absolute blast just getting everyone to come to me.

Um yeah, so back from Vegas, uh but right now going on here back home, we've got the Commander Party Kickstarter.
>> Yes! [screaming] Speaking of magic, as Night Cat says, um so our Kickstarter is live. If you have even a dollar to give, it's immensely helpful. It keeps the ball rolling. It helps us in the Kickstarter algorithm. It helps us just up our number of overall backers. There's me and Iffy walking and talking.

Um and I know it's a hard time for people to fund stuff because, you know, if you live in America, economy bad. And so, if you live anywhere else, economy bad. That's why I say even a dollar helps. It just helps us get that visibility cuz somebody out there wants to help get this show made. So, we're almost to 20K.

>> That's what it is. >> Hey, what? >> into the grab bag of games again. >> I would I would love to feel refreshed by jumping into a big old pond. >> That is a great way to feel refreshed and our first game >> work. >> Our first game we're talking about is Kohaku, the big pond expansion and reprint.
Now, Kohaku is literally the most beautiful game I have in my collection because the version I have was the deluxe version which has acrylic tiles. And these are gorgeous 3D tiles. They're never going to publish again because there's no way they can afford to do it now. But people love the game so much they wanted to reprint and this is the reprint that is coming out or that is on Kickstarter right now.
And they have a bunch of new tiles as well for the expansion. >> [music] >> So, this is a gold seal games. Becca, you would love this game because it is a tile laying game. You are >> I love me some tile laying. >> It's a super peaceful game of just creating a pond and you have your little koi fish, you have little frogs and lily pads and >> Very cute.
I'm reminded by lanterns. >> Yes. Has some lanterns. >> [laughter] >> I feel like it's a little more No, it's got a little bit more complexity as far as the scoring is concerned. >> Ooh, even better. >> Yeah, there's ones here whoever has the most will get that many points. Others are you want them adjacent to each other and it is just a beautiful game, a very zen-like experience.
Plays in about 30 minutes and I really wish that they would do the acrylic tiles again but I it would be like $500 if they did it now. But >> Just put out a $500 tier, why not? >> Yeah. But I'm excited about this because all the of the new expansions that you can buy separately and just, you know, add to your base game.
So, that is out now from Gold Seal Games. >> Gold Seal Games. You're It's this really funny theme where it's like the Stool Pigeon Mafia. So, you're like taking out your opponents. >> that. It's been out for many years, highly influential, and they're straight bringing the Lord of the Rings into Ascension.

And I love Ascension, and even though I'm not the biggest Lord of the Rings fan, I I would want to play this because it looks amazing. >> I didn't know you weren't the biggest Lord of the Rings fan.

I I do like You know what's funny? I I talk about I'm not the biggest Lord of the Rings fan, yet some of my favorite games recently are Lord of the Rings games. >> It there's a big resurgence of Lord of the Rings stuff lately. >> Yes, agreed. >> People are into it, and I will say they premiered some cards for Lord of the Rings for The Hobbit at MagicCon Vegas, which look really cool.
I want that Smaug. >> Awesome. And this one here, as you can see, I mean, it looks gorgeous. We did this with Um but Pack It Up is a Chaos Draft show, which no big deal. I guessed it on and I won. Um [laughter] but they had a live show at MagicCon.
And what you do is you go up I'm sorry, we're going to keep going back to Magic. I know we're in the middle of Grab Bag of Games, but um each each player goes up and they hit a button and then a wheel spins, which is just one of those randomizers. >> Yeah, yeah. >> You put stuff in and they put every possible pack of Magic you could ever have.
>> No way. >> by a game store. >> Yeah, yeah. >> And um the the most expensive pack you could get is Alpha. Totally freaking randomly, someone pulled the Alpha pack, which like the producer of the show carries in his pocket. >> Uh not on but the set dressing is all of the packs of anything you could open, but they don't keep that Alpha one up there.
>> Right. Oh my god. Wow. >> I believe I believe they valued it and they probably juiced it a little bit, but they valued it at $50,000. >> $50,000 is the pack they opened. >> Oh my >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. Card Kingdom Games sponsors the show and I was like >> insane. >> So, how'd you get the money to make this show?
And he was like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I don't own that Alpha pack, but they are going to let us open it if we ever spin it." And they spun it at the convention and Gavin Verhey, the head designer of all Commander >> Yeah. >> Uh, I'm butchering his title. It's not that, but it's basically that.

That's my point. >> Anyway, the guy who played the One Ring was the producer of that show. >> Ah, One Ring to rule them all. Um, that's amazing. Um >> It was a fun It was a fun con, y'all.

Um, yeah, so you're moving around you Everyone has their different abilities they can do and you're trying to sell your lemonades to make your stand against get it make your stand against the apocalypse. >> Nice. >> Yeah. Um it just it looks so cute and it's already funded.
It is on it's another game on BackerKit actually not part of Pocketopia. >> I'm seeing resource collection. This is a game for me.

Upgrade those lemonade stands in order to survive the apocalypse. Boom. >> Oh, so it's capitalism. >> We've got so many like cozy games and I love that. I love a cozy game.
I do feel like [music] they're kind of making fun of it a little bit. Oh, yes. Great. >> Yeah. >> How's the end of the world game? >> Uh-huh. >> What's not to get? >> There it is. Uh one to four players so there is a solo mode up to 60 minutes and just they sold me on that of that trailer. >> Yeah, and how they doing on their way to their goal?
>> They have doubled it. So they're at 53. They wanted 20. So good for them. You got about 3 weeks left here friends. Uh check that out on the big squeeze. >> 3D they make great stuff. >> Love it. Moving right along we go from one worker placement to game to another and this one is actually an expansion for a somewhat classic game called Reavers of Midgard.
This is the Reavers of Midgard the gods expansion. >> Guardians of the Galaxy or just the same lore >> same No, I don't know. >> That Nordic lore. >> The Nordic lore. >> Love me some Nordic lore. >> Yeah. >> Nordic. >> I remember the original game it's one of those single worker placement game so you have one worker and >> One worker?
>> Yeah, you send them on out there to do stuff but you're using dice to >> This is blowing my mind. I've never I don't I can't think of another single worker work replacement game. >> I think it was sort of based on Raiders of the North Sea where you sent one out and then brought one back depending on what spots you go to and I don't think any I've been a while since I played honestly so look at all those resources.
You got to manage all those. >> see turkey legs. >> Yeah, turkey legs oh >> Ooh. >> Get those Vikings together yeah. >> no, the Vikings. Yeah, it was upside down. >> Oh, I thought they did look like crabs. >> a Viking helmet upside down looks like a crab. That's what I wanted to [laughter] say today.
>> Um so you're getting your Viking crew ready to go out and do some battle on the Reavers of Midgard. Um this one adds in the gods play which are I believe asymmetrical characters themselves that go into the game and try to mess with you. There is a campaign mode as well. This is Gods and Prophets Reavers of Midgard.
Um I want to bring this one up because it's been a while since I played any of the Midgard series including Champions of Midgard. That's a a war game that's been out forever, very highly rated. And what Star Wars Battle Hoth is is a re-implementation of it.
They've streamlined a bunch of stuff, and basically what we're doing is we're going to be punching, punching, punching, shooting, shooting, shooting. And we have two different goals. Your goal is to wipe out five of my units. >> Okay. >> And then my goal is to destroy the two power uh, the shield generators, this one and that one.
Okay? So, I've got my AT-ATs, I've got snow troopers, you've got the Rebel troopers, you've got your snow speeders as well. So, what we're going to do is on your turn you're going to play one of your cards. We're going to shuffle these up. So, first of all, we have uh, special characters in this one.
I've got Darth Vader. Put him right here on the screen. Hey, Darth. Okay. And >> I have Leia Organa. >> Organa, our last hope. >> Yeah. >> And then we have our standard cards here. We're going to shuffle in our three character cards in there. They give us uh special abilities. >> Yeah, mhm. Okay, I got three Leias.
>> Yep, there you go. >> Rebel general. >> All right, I've already shuffled mine in. Um on your turn, you are going to draw uh well, to start things off, we're going to draw four cards. Keep these secret. >> So secret, so safe. >> 1 2 3 4. And in Star Wars Battle of Hoth, um turns are pretty straightforward.
What you're going to do is add the four you have, you're going to play one, and you are going to order your units based on what you play. So, let me just draw a random one here. So, if I did this one, for instance, raid, I look here, this is on my side of the board, the right side, and you'll notice there's divided into three sections.
I'm going to order two of my units to move and or attack. >> Okay, so we're looking at it this way. >> For me, yes. >> Yeah, mhm. >> Okay. And then back on her side, uh the units are Now, we have individuals in each unit. So, this is a unit of uh snow troopers. If I wanted to move this unit here, cuz it's on the right side, I would move them like that.
>> Okay. >> Okay. And then to when once we start battling, if you destroy or get rid of all these, you punch them, shoot them, or whatever, then you have won a um bat battle, and that >> And I need to take out all four troops to gain a unit to get 1/5 of the way towards winning? >> Correct. >> Okay.
>> Okay. Whoops. >> I'll put these closer. >> Thank you. All right. So, that goes there. And again, I get to do two of them. So, let's say I do this one for one, a special unit, by the way, and then I could move my AT-AT, as well, one. And then, based on your little play raid here, you're going to move, and then you may attack.
Let me get that. Get the eight up here. So, if I wanted to attack with my troopers, and this is for the rebel troopers, as well, I may move one space, and then I would look here, this is the range. So, if I go three, two, or one, then that's how many dice I rolled. >> Ah, I see. >> I was here and I'm trying to attack let's say I'm here.
I'm going to try try and do attack your troopers. >> Okay. >> It's one, two spaces away. >> Two dice. >> Two dice. However, you are in a trench, Becca, so you have extra protection. I it's minus one die. >> by standing on the hex. >> Correct. >> Okay. >> Uh these are all trenches and so instead of two dice, I only roll one.

In this case, it would be one with the modifiers. So, it'll take out a troop, it'll take out artillery, or it'll take out a vehicle.
>> Yikes. Scary. >> That one is for vehicles only. >> Vehicles only. >> and the uh AT-ATs. >> Of course. >> This is retreat. So, after you've done all your hits, you're going to look at any retreats and then if that rolled, then you're going to take your unit and move it back one space. >> Okay. And what we got left?
This is probably nothing. >> Yep, a big old miss. >> Haha. >> Haha. >> Okay, I think that's it. >> Okay. Um there are different terrains here. We'll talk about that as they come up. Basically, the uh trenches give you protection and then uh these uh ridges here, my AT-ATs cannot go over these cuz they'll trip and fall.

Uh one, two, three, four and then we have the different abilities for my AT-AT, he uh they get to move one space and then they get three dice all the way up to three units away. >> Awesome. >> Yeah, there are the different um >> Here's a cheat sheet of all the different hex types you were mentioning.
Bridges The terrains, yeah. Uh rocks would be I'm standing on some right there. >> do they do? >> Uh movement a unit that enters a rocks hex must stop and may move no further on that turn. So injured injure movement. >> Uh-huh. >> But uh I think that's about it. Protection when attacking an enemy unit that is on a rocks hex hex vehicles reduce the number of attack dice by two >> Oh.
>> and other units reduce by one. >> Nice. >> Uh it blocks line of sight. A unit may not attack the turn it moves onto a rocks hex. >> Mhm. So there's line of sight in this so once again you just start in your hex draw imaginary line to your enemy's hex as long as there's nothing in between then you can shoot.
Um by the way this a scenario we're jumping straight to scenario 10 because I wanted to have the cool AT-AT's out there. >> Yeah. >> Called target the shield generator so fans of the franchise you'll know this is from Empire Strikes Back. Okay. >> Freaking sweet. >> Yeah. So uh in this scenario I believe the Empire goes first.
Uh yep. >> they would. >> Yeah, that's the Empire for you. So I've drawn my four initial cards I'm going to look here and then play a card. Uh let's see. Oh wow. All right. So I'm going to play precision fire. And what that says is order one vehicle unit so my vehicles are the AT-AT's. Uh and then this unit can move one additional hex and rolls one additional die.
So normally I get to move Uh where's my vehicle right here? One space but because of the card I played I can play two spaces and then I can target up to three spaces away. >> With an additional die? >> Two, yeah. >> [snorts] >> So I normally get uh three dice for my AT-AT. Uh and then I get an additional die because of the card I played.
Okay. And then I roll these and I'm I have to So, this is what I've ordered and I have to announce what I'm going to attack. So, Becca, I'm going to attack your artillery there. >> Ah! >> Okay, so what do I need to hit on? I need to hit on um the blast. >> Oh, yeah, you can hit me with this blast symbol.
This is my artillery. >> Yep. And then this says you just ignore any uh retreats cuz obviously you can't retreat with a artillery. >> rolling. >> Yeah. Okay, so here we go. I've hit a blast and I've got a couple of retreats and I've got an infantry. So, I've hit uh your artillery. >> It only took one hit to kill it?
>> Yep, this is a fast game. Um but your AT-AT also only requires one hit? >> Yeah, now it only takes one hit, but they have a special because it's so big you If you roll a hit on any dice, you have to reroll those and try to get a blast and that'll confirm the hit. That's the only unit that has a confirm. If you do that, then you've you've destroyed it.

I'm okay to go on ridges. >> Ridges, uh protection when attacking an enemy unit on a ridge hex, reduce unit Units reduce the number of attack dice rolled by one, unless they're also on a ridge hex.

Or does? >> Blocks line of sight. >> Okay. >> Special line of sight between two units on ridges is only blocked by other units that are also on ridges and by sirax. >> Cool. All right. I You cannot combine units. So, if I have this one guy, I can't put four guys there. That's its own separate thing. So, I'm going to go up here. So, I've ordered this one and this one. We're going to be shooting here. Uh so, that is um infantry to infantry. So, I am two spaces away. I roll two dice.
I've got a miss and a hit. So, one guy goes away. All right. And then, now I'm going to do this one. I wonder if I should shoot at those snow speeders. Yeah, we're going to shoot the snow speeders, I think. >> Just line them up. We'll just line them up. >> Oh, sweet. Okay. Uh so, I've got um these guys here going to shoot at your I'm going to shoot in the air, try to hit y'all.
