Hello everyone. This is Cinema

and this is Joe Hannis

and you're watching Board Gaming Ramblings

and today we are reviewing five more games. All of these are review copies. So thank you so much for that. Before we go into that, it's soon time for spiel spiel in Germany. It's going to be great. We will be there. If you are going to be there, come find us. We would love to see you. If you see us walking around, you can show us the secret sign. It makes us very happy. And you can also very welcome to come and say hi. We really enjoy talking to you all. If you want to make sure to find us, we will be at the Allian booth on Saturday from 2 to 7 and on Sunday from 10 to 2. So come by and play time span with us or we can teach you to play time span or just say hi or just say hi or say bye or say board games are fun.

Yeah.

And also secret sign.

Yeah, those are your options.

No, you can say other things as well. It's not like we we don't send out a script

beforehand. We just did.

No, you're allowed to say most things, but today we're taking a look at five games. Smaller, bigger, in between. I'm starting this time.

Oo.

With this one, Jibberjab. I already said everything is review copy, so I don't think I say it every time, but this is a review copy. Jibberjabel.

Jibberjab. Yes.

Oh, I said Jibberjabber.

Jibberjabble is a party game. It is not your grandma's word game. My grandma had a lot of word games, but not this one. It says it's not your grandma's word game.

It's That's the

It's like It's not your grandma's word game.

Okay.

This is basically

selling points.

Yes. Your grandma never had this word game. It's not Scrabble. So basically, this is a impro game put into a board game. So what is going to happen is that one player is going to have a card with words on it and words don't come easy to me like sorry but it's not sorry on this then the next player is going to say a number from one to six for example two two and that's going to be the the the the word I would not suggest playing this with a camera because then I can read the word if I have it close enough

I also need to be more than two players

no you can play it with two I think but [snorts] I don't think it would be very good you can play it with two which would make no sense basically Okay, that word is the goal word and now you are going to make a clue for it. And how this works now is that you basically the first I've said basically basically a lot of times now I'm going to stop saying basically. Basically

the player is going to say a letter

and then the next player is going to say a letter and the next player is going to say a letter and the goal is to kind of say I flu and not say random letters because that would make it hard.

So let's do this is totally impro now you don't know about this. Let's do like a point of view thing. So the camera is now the player who is guessing.

Yes.

And you're starting to make a word as a hint

uh for number two.

Yeah.

Uh and I don't mean like number two like going to the bathroom but the two on this one. So you don't know yet.

Uh this is put me on the spot. I am saying

and in English please

for international viewers. P

um R

O

M

M

Why are you saying more M's?

E

no.

Oh

E.

Yes. And I'm I'm saying stop.

Is that even a word?

Yeah, because like it's spelled like that. I think in English.

It's very good for us to do a spelling English game. But basically, and then the player says stop and then you start a new clue. And then until somebody says stop and you start a new clue and then you end up with three clues. You're never allowed to spell them out loud, to say the words out loud, only to spell them. And then the player gets to guess what was the word. If they guess it correct, you get a point. It's a fully cooperative game. That is the game. What did you think about Jibberjabel?

I think it was fun.

It's not your grandma's word game.

No, that's that's something. Um, well, I I laughed a lot, especially when somebody was trying to like It feels like uh a sports game. No, I'm taking this back, but like

feels like a sports game.

Like you're you're serving something to someone and then they have to like smash it. Like, you get it? Yes. So, I feel like the people before me was just like, "Okay, I have this word. I'm saying this letter and the other player is saying letter and I'm just like I have no idea what word you're trying to communicate. I'm just like I can either stop or I can try to say a letter and hope that I'm lucky or maybe if [clears throat] I'm just like I don't know what the fluff you're doing. Then I'm just like I can start my own word in the middle of their word and maybe it will be like fluff fruit

fluff.

I don't know. I just said something bad and and and so you got some words last time we played it that were

not very bad. Yeah,

it's a fun game. Uh it is one that if it was a bigger box and more expensive, I don't think I could recommend it, but usually this goes for about €9, which I think is a I don't know if they have gone up. I think that was the used to be the price. I think that's a good price.

You get a lot of fun from it. I would recommend it as a small little party game that's a bit different and very simple to teach, very easy and quick to play. I would recommend it

on that.

And I think we don't have something quite like this in the collection.

I want to keep it. Next up, we have

the amazing journey. I forgot which word. Maybe it was the grand, but it was the amazing

or normal. The normal journey.

Just the journey.

The journey.

The journey. The mediocre journey.

That would be uh not a great game. Um, this game is about like traveling around the world in 80 days and you're doing

it's not based on like the the around the world in 80 days.

No, but [clears throat] you're trying to do kind of the same thing. Yes.

And so there's different routes um along the map which requires different transportation modes and what transportation mode you can choose depends on which day it is. basically what what's available on the space that you are because you're moving along this time track independently. So I can have spent like nine days on my journey so far and you can have spent five and there's al always the person who has spent the least amount of days that is like their their turn.

That is true but it's also just goes in order because so it's not really like when you say that it sounds like it's a patchwork thing but it's not. It is just going turn order around the table. Yes. But that will be the last play in turn because when you do your action, you have to end up either in the front or at the same space as the person in the front.

Yes. And you have some checkpoints that you want to visit.

You have to visit.

Yeah. And you have like a if you visited in the right days, you will get more points. And also there's a lot of other things on the map that you want to grab. for example, some souvenirs, some activities.

Everything is basically just like a little set collection thing to score your points and and you're trying to do as much stuff you can before the world ends. No,

that would be like a

the journey ends.

A less pleasant theme like it's the last 80 days of the world.

Oh, yeah. You need to give supplies before.

No, [clears throat] you need to look at the most of the world because it goes under

because it explodes to be

um I would say this not a I didn't have an amazing journey. I had kind of a mediocre journey. Yes.

Yeah. It was it was um I thought it was cool with uh with uh now I I I will want to move with this route. It takes that much of time and my next action then will need to be this route and oh but when I'm landing on this base it's a day where that travel route isn't viable. Um will I do something else then will I choose another route? I can choose to wait uh I can choose to like take the thing that is there instead of moving and then you have like a die that you're rolling so you don't know exactly how much time that will take you

which makes the planning impossible. Yes. And I think actually I like that because if it was not like that, I would be like I will plan my game like seven turns in my head and and advance and be like, "Oh no, I I should have planned something differently and and I I wouldn't have much fun with that." So I think actually I like the randomness in this one. It's not. It's only when you take those things that you don't know how much time you're going to use.

But also you that's like half of the game taking those things because if you don't take those things you get

a probability. So it's not like I spend like one or six days. It's like true three or four.

Yeah. And if you use four you get like a compensation. If you use two you get a negative thing. You got scarred.

Oh yeah. Because you have tickets that make you not be u um dependent on which day it is. So you can spend that ticket and you can use that mode of transportation.

I feel it's a very light game.

I feel like this is more of a family style game than a Euro strategy game. And because of that I like I I I think that the dice roll and the way to make it so that you don't have to plan or can plan like in a perfect way that makes it okay.

Yeah.

For me it wasn't anything amazing even though it says amazing. So, but maybe if you are into lighter games, it might be something for you. For me, it was nothing special, sadly.

Yeah, I think it's I can see people liking this more than we did. I would I I don't remember the similarities with Trekking the world, but that's also a game where you're traveling around map and collecting stuff. I remember liking that more. Uh so, that's one I recommend checking out if you like these kinds of games. that's more in to my liking, but this one was all right as well.

Next up, we have Sonova's favorite game of all time. It's Stunk Market. This is a realtime uh stock market trading game that plays in about 15 minutes. It says 20 on the box, so maybe 20 minutes from Ryan Kinitia. This is so simple. You have a hand of cards. It has different kind of stocks on them. And then when the there's one card in the middle of the table and then when the game starts it's like I want these cards. Who has them? I can give you that card. And you do trades with people. And as soon as somebody has only majority so there's like five and and five, seven, and nine I think of the different colors. So let's say I have a seven. I need to have at least four of that and then nine. So I list five. I can say stunk. And then game just ends. The round ends. And I did that every time and people were very happy with that. So, uh, and then you get points. You basically get points for everything you have a majority. And if you have everything of the color, you get double points. And if you have any cards of the card that is still on the middle of the table, you get negative points instead of positive points. That is the game. Tell me why you love it so much.

Well, first of all, I'm completely convinced that you started with like all the majorities like from the get-go and just like needed to like trade two cards to achieve that. That's my story. Um, I I actually I I really like contemplated um not being a part of the game round when we play this because I was just like I heard the rules just like this is not a game for me. I'm just going to skip this. Uh but then

No, no. It says the most exciting trading game ever. It says

I I don't think that but I'm glad I

It's not your grandmother's trading game.

It's not your grandmother's trading game. Well, uh, but I'm glad I didn't skip it, but I because I actually liked it more than I thought I would. I think the card in the middle works great. Yes, because it adds some tension that the game needs. So, you be like, "Okay, I don't need that." Well, usually when you don't want it to be negative points, you kind of need that card though. Um, so you want to also put something out. If you're listening to a lot of things and you I I hear that Johannes he really needs u green heaven.

Yes.

I I will try to wait like a little longer to like oh put it in the middle and hope that you don't see it before the time. Oh yes. I don't know. I will see.

So maybe it doesn't work that well. Um it it was fun though.

I would like to keep this for now. I think it's one of them I'd like to play like one more time

and then probably not need anymore. It's not amazing in any ways, but it's a fun little package and a fun little game. I wouldn't say it's the most exciting trading game ever. But I will say it's not my grandmother's trading game because it's it's mine.

Well, but I thought it worked, but I I I don't need to play it again. But we can keep it.

We can play it a lot.

It's so

Next up, we have a very light game.

It's so heavy.

It is. This is Deco.

Yeah. You can't see how heavy it is. It doesn't win best back of the box, but maybe the inside is amazing. Deco, talk to me about it.

This is a deck builder game. Uh, and you're building basically poker hands. So, you are trying to have the best poker hand uh and and win like the poker round.

It is poker.

It's poker.

Yes.

Basically,

it's poker with deck building.

Yeah. So, you're starting off with the same deck of cards, everyone. uh like your own but they're identical and it's usually pretty bad. It's like it's a little

it's always the same. So it's not usually pretty bad is like a basic deck of

but but you can get like a full house with those maybe

you know you count it's two of each from two to eight.

Yeah. So you can get a straight that's the best thing you can get with that one. Um, and you have a market. So, everyone who's like um in the in the I'm I'm compare I'm like using like trick taking lingo like immediately if you're still in the trick at the end of the round you like if you

This is the best. I'm just trying to see how far out you're getting with this great explanation.

Basically, it's poker. You're going to play bits. If you fall, you will get a great a free card from the market

but nothing else.

At the end of the round, everyone who hasn't won, which gets the points or hasn't folded, we'll be able to buy stuff from the market, which is the market cards. You can burn some cards like it's a deck builder. And also, you can buy jokers, which add special rules to the different phases of the game for you. And that is kind of like the meat and potatoes of the game is those jokers and the deck building part of it. This is It has to be uh inspired by Bilatro. I don't think you have played Bolatro.

Yep.

I have played a lot of Bilateral. I think it's a really fun poker game. This is way simpler. It's just like getting the poker and it's five card poker. So, no Texas Holdm, no open cards, just the five cards you get. You will be able to burn a card and draw a card. And that's mostly what you'll be able to do depending on what other um abilities the jokers give you. And then it's like a bit of bluffing, but also how much do I want to bid and trying to stay in it and trying to get the most points.

I I don't think bluffing is [clears throat] a big part of this poker game. Uh and I think

I disagree a bit because sometimes I was like, okay, you are still like in the end of the game, I might kind of know what you're going for, but then I'm like, okay, are you going are you continuing adding now because you have it

or because you're trying to make me fall?

Yeah. So it is fluffing like in but way less.

I do agree with you but and I felt like that one well played in last time as well and just like I knew that two players had really like potential for really good hands.

Not the last player.

Not the last player.

That one ended up winning. That was cool. Uh but but I was just like I don't know if you have that.

I know that if you do have it it's better than my best shot but probably you don't have exactly that. So then my my combination that I do have on my hand is better. So you're think you're trying to think about that. But I will say the thing that I didn't think worked like I I I thought it was so boring to fold.

It was really boring. I don't think the thing that you get from folding is like good enough.

No.

Um so like I ended up never folding.

Yes. And then I I'm I I don't care if you're bluffing or not because I'm willing to like stay in it so that I get to buy that joker because I don't get that if I'm folding I can get to burn that card or buy those points or gift you a burned card because like the things that I get from because what you can buy at the end of the round depends on how good your hand is and my hand is really good.

Yeah,

I can buy whatever cards I want. So I don't need to fold and get a one for free. I would just like the only thing that I would like if I really don't think I have a chance of winning, I have a really bad hand. I would give him like two po coins. I wouldn't then I will like to fold early so I don't give money to like the pot. Yeah.

So I don't Is that called pot?

No. No, it doesn't matter.

The That's the thing. It's called in Norwegian. Yeah. You get me? I do. I think though that if you play with more kind of aggressive players

or poker players.

Yes. Because the thing is like we in the beginning of the game we usually never ended up having like the max bids.

So if people are more aggressive and you're like I'm going to race. I know I have a horrible hand. I'm trying to make you full

because I'm trying to I'm trying to keep like in the beginning of the game if you go max and like say I have something I'm trying to like maybe a bit further into the game like round two or three I might be doing a more aggressive poker play. I think that might help for it. But do I do agree with you boring to fall

and also the one thing that I don't like is for example let's say you're trying to do that you're racing. If somebody else just calls you, you can't do that because it will end. You have no agency of when it's ending. If all because it's ending when all players have the So you have you need to be someone else that will raise that too. So I I'm I don't know.

The thing is I really like this game the first time we played it.

Yes, I like it a lot.

I think that it's a very interesting and unique take on the poker.

Yes. I the next time we played, I like it a little less because I felt like it was more of a it was I I think I saw it being more of a deck builder than uh than like other things. And it was hard to pivot. Like I got to a place like this is my deck now. This is I burned it down. This is my my best hand. I can get this super hand once or like once every two or three rounds, but I have a pretty good hand. And then there's like there's nothing more I can do. I can hope to get that and hope that you don't have anything less because I felt like if I started buying other cards, I would dilute those chances and it took too much time to be able to get it to change to something else.

I agree.

Um, I did like the jokers. It's not like they changed the game completely, but

that was my favorite part of it because it changed it like enough.

Yes,

those were cool. And you you feel like because there is one like Joker for each category of things you can do in this game. I'm just like, okay, I'm every time I'm I'm calling, for example, then I can use this ability. And then I was just like, okay, I I actually would like to race right now, but then I can't use this ability that I've got. So, that changes how I'm thinking. And also, I can be like, okay, that's a good, but I know it's another card in that deck. So, if someone else buys the Joker, maybe I will get that card because I'm I really like playing that way. And you only get like one ability for each like thing in the game. So you can't make like if I call I get this and this and this and this which I do like a lot.

Yes. All in all, I think it was a fun experience. Uh it went a bit long. I think we played four players both times. It we played the same people. It took two hours the first time, 90 minutes the second time, which is good. It says 25 minutes per player, which means about two hoursish with four players, which I think is a bit long. But I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I need to play it again.

No, it felt a little too repetitive. Like I I I want to build like a good deck. And if it's with twos or knights, then I Well, I don't know if that's too interesting, especially for the length of the game.

Next up, last for today, is Totally Human. This is another party game. This is from Casper Lap which has made some interesting stuff. This is a kind of weird party game where you will get three cards. Those cards might have humans or aliens on them. If one of them is an alien or at least one of them is an alien, you are an alien. So you might play games where nobody's an alien or you might play games where there more people is aliens which I think make the game better. So after that you are going to answer some multiplechoice questions and if you are a human you can answer whatever you like but if you are an alien you have to answer one of the numbers on your three cards and then the next question comes out and you have to answer one of the other two and then the last one comes out and you have to answer the third card that you didn't use. So the game is basically trying to see are you answering in a weirder way than the other players and then seeing that trying to find out who is the alien because after that you go into spaceships and basically you want to be if you're a human you want to be in the spaceship which has only humans and has the most humans in it then you will win and if you are an alien you want to be in a spaceship with at least one other human and then you will win. And that is the game. What did you think about it?

Totally human. Totally human.

I think it sounded fun when you told us about it. And I thought it was I was ex I was like curious to see what kind of questions was in need of answering. And I thought they were weird enough to be like, okay, we could have disagreements. And I'm thinking, oh, why did you answer that? and you can still be human because it it's there sometimes it's not the obvious answer to the it's a weird question and it's a weird answer usually. Um so that makes it work but also because the answers and questions are so weird. I don't feel like they give me any information sometimes. I just like okay it could be any of these.

I really don't have much of a preference. Oh, you took the one that I I was thinking, oh, not especially not that I might start to suspect you a little bit. So, but I didn't like it [clears throat] didn't this didn't click with me. I I feel like I have other games with this

uh hidden role thing that I like better. For example, the trick taking game that I can't I'm totally blanking on the name of right now. Yes,

this one. the Yep. That one.

The one with the agents in it.

Yes.

Oh, this magically appearing here. This one. H bottom line, I agree with you. But I didn't I I enjoyed the concepts and I enjoyed it. I think like there is there is going to be a uh what do you call it? Like the the the addictive, what do you call it in English?

The adjective.

Adjective. Adjective. The like the tiny like tiny, wet, rusty, that kind of thing. I forgot the English one because it's like most stressful to encounter that can be a question and then it can be uh and then there's one card with the adjectives I think and then one card with like the thing. So it can be tiny teacher, wet dentist, rusty firefighter, wobbly pilot and fragile artist. I often felt like the adjective part was there just to make it funny because it's like oh a rusty firefighter. That can actually mean somebody who is not that good at a job anymore. But like, oh, a wet dentist, that's nothing.

Like a tiny teacher. That's probably not stressful. Like if it was So,

well, but but I do I disagree with you. [clears throat] For example, this there's a great example

in this one. I actually think it worked, but it's something that we got.

What's the most stressful to encounter? A pilot on itself. It would not be stressful, but it's a wobbly pilot.

But it will always it will always be wobbly pilot on that card.

Yeah, but if you had you could get a lot of other adjectives and what I'm trying to say it's not wobbly on the fork every time.

No, no, but the sometimes we got things like it didn't matter. It was just like what is the worst thing? Like but some it it was it was a good idea. It was fun. But all in all, like in the pile of

party games,

yeah,

I would choose other party games to play.

Maybe it's not your grandma's party game.

Maybe it is.

And this is the end of this video. If you have enjoyed it, you can

subscribe.

You can also

be cool.

Yeah, I was thinking like comment and like. You can also

that' be cool. Oh, comment like.

Yes, like it. And if you are going to spill, we hope to see you there. Show us the secret sign. And thank you so much for watching. I'm Johannes.

And you've been watching Board Gaming Ramblings. And bye-bye.
