The Dice Tower May 19, 2026
Transcript 54:37

Good morning everybody and welcome out to Board Game Breakfast. My name is Chris Yee. I'm Wendy Yee. And good morning, I'm Eric Summerer. Good morning Eric Summerer, I'm Chris Yee. And this is Are we doing this again? We're doing this old song and dance again.

Summerer.

Every time.

[clears throat]

Holy well, this is an exciting week because we've got a couple of cool things going on, but it's also a normal week for us here.

We're not flying out of town. We're not flying back in town.

Monday and Tuesday last week. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. Nothing uh no no big surprises. I don't think Tom is pulling any big pranks on us. There's a great short, by the way, on the YouTube channel Joey pulling a little prank on Tom uh and Emery. So go watch that if you haven't yet. Eric, would you consider this a normal week for yourself? I It's as it can be the middle of May with the end of the school year. I've got I think a big choir concert. I've got a capstone presentation to go to. I think my mom's coming over. Yeah, that's so maybe not normal. No. See, we had our abnormal last week with our daughter. She had uh rehearsals all week for her play on Friday. But now it's done. They get to party Tuesday and then no more theater for the rest of the school year.

It's amazing how quick it just like stops. Like you've got all this build up, build up, build up and then performances and then just done. It's like what do you do with yourself? Yeah, I'll tell you what, she's exhausted. She's ready to not have people around her.

Eric asked if she was a So, our daughter was in a a school production of The Little Mermaid.

Mhm. Uh and Eric asked, "So, was she a piece of of sea grass?" Is that what you asked?

You said she was a background player, so I asked if she

was a piece of sea grass. She did get to be the waves at one point during the big storm. That's awesome. Yeah. Some kid got in the back, got to like play with the light switch. Electrical storm. I bet a teacher did that. If it were me, I'd be like, "Sorry kids."

Sorry kids, we don't trust you. You don't touch You don't touch uh lights. Yeah. My youngest just did a production of Clue and and was in charge of lights and got to do light lightning effects for some big dramatic moments. It was very cool. That's cool. Yeah. Uh one of the kids at the very end of the play, right before the curtain call, the curtain's closed for the last time, one of the kids knocked over one of the wood pieces of set. It crashed through the curtain, made a huge thud. There was like bits of feather boa and sets that had been, you know, falling apart over the last They did the play three times. And so, just everything on the stage and then like slowly settled down. Oh my goodness. Yes.

Yeah, it was great. And then the curtain call.

They're stepping over the feather boas. There were definitely a couple moments in that play where we're like, "Who is that kid okay?"

Oh good. Oh, I love legitimate theater. Yeah. That's that's live theater right there. Absolutely. All right folks, so we got a cool episode of Breakfast coming up here. So, why don't we start with uh before we jump to our sponsor, we also want to say, "Hey, if you haven't registered yet, this is one of your last calls to go to dicetowereast.com. If you want to play games with the three of us. You want to check out the giant curling. You want to check out the cool dexterity area. You want to come and check out the hot games tape. Eric wants to go to the curling area. Yes. Yes, I do. We're announcing more and more hot games that are going to be there on the tables. We got a couple of real cool weren't sure if we were going to have, for example, a copy of Eternal Decks. But we will have a copy there.

Set up on the hot games table and more ones kind of coming in a little by little. So, yeah, make sure to check out dicetowereast.com. The hotel block is still open and it will soon be closing in just a matter of a few weeks. So, you don't want to miss out the better rate, the discounted parking, the little

bag. The cool bag, the little little perks of staying there on the hotel site cuz it does, for one thing, help us the Dice Tower financially, but two, also you're right there. It's so convenient. Yeah, you're right there in the middle of it. In the middle of the storm. Mhm, you can stay up really late, get your 3 hours of sleep, and get up in the morning. It's fabulous. You don't have to drive 3 hours? You should get more than 3 hours of sleep.

I'm I'm way too old to make that work. No, that doesn't work.

No, I get more than 3 hours of sleep. Chris gets at least 5. I'm a responsible citizen. All right, we're going to also thank our sponsor of this episode of Board Game Breakfast, GripMat. This show is sponsored by GripMat who makes custom playmats for many of your favorite games. With their custom grip surface, you can keep cards and tiles in place without worrying about messing up the game play. Or you can get one without the grip surface if you just want a great looking mat. Whether sprucing up a hot new title or an old classic, consider picking up a GripMat in the Etsy link below.

AH!

[screaming]

I JUST WANT YOU TO BE DOING THAT SCREAM AT SOME POINT WHEN WE turn this on. You know, like you come back to the screen and you're just I'm wearing the shirt. Go get some dice and a and a shotgun. Oh, the giant dice aren't here. Just go poke them in your eye. Hey folks, it's eye catcher time. This is going to be where we take a quick look at things that have caught our eye. Unsurprisingly, a little bit of news, little upcoming things. And this week for me I was really impressed with this little game here, Pack of Penguins. It's a small Kickstarter. Over 600% funded. Over 600% funded. Yeah. When you have a very low goal, you can do that.

Yeah, what was their goal? 2,000?

2,000. $2,000. Wow. And the reason for that is that this is the whole game right here. It's a small deck of cards, some little penguin standees, some cardboard token eggs and fish. And so this is it's a $20 game, right? This was cute. This was in the demo area at Dice Tower West and there was a big sign that had cute penguins on it. So I was like, wow, you know, I'll sit down for like a 10 minute game. And you simply play out cards. Each person plays a card and then based on the position, the relative strength of your card amongst all the ones played. So if you're playing five players, the lowest number goes in the front, then the second, then the third, fourth and then the fifth, right in those in those spots there.

Eggs are points, fish prevent you from losing points at the end of the game. And so there's just funny moments where you're where you're all set to get in one position and someone else has a little squeaker of a card that's just you know, you went from getting three points to one fish. So it's a yeah, just a cute game. And I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it. And so I mean, for such a small game they have a few stretch goals that seem reasonable instead of cardboard standees, little wooden meeples, and then custom shaped wooden meeples. Oh. And if they get a little bit higher, custom egg and fish tokens. These are very reasonable This is an actual trout in the in the box.

Discount trout. Is it smoked or is it raw? That depends on the level. How is the trout? Yeah, if you don't if we don't hit 15 grand in 3 days, you're getting you're getting semi-pickled, but if we get to 20,000 you get full smoked. Okay. So, the game doesn't have to be on ice. That's all I'm worried about. No, there's -5° C. Yeah, exactly. Anyway, I thought this was cute. I liked it enough that yeah, I'm looking forward to this one. And so I thought I'd share. Pack of Penguins, my eye catcher for the week. Very neat. Well, I get to go next. I have been on a bit of a kick with Post Curious, the the puzzle game company. And one of the games I really enjoyed that are smaller I've been playing a lot a larger group of games, but one of the small ones is called A Light in the Mist. It's a tarot card based game, very cozy, take your take as much time as you need sort of puzzle adventure. And this is from one of the creators of A Light in the Mist. It's called The Storm Lamp Rituals. It's a book like a narrative puzzle journey.

Nicely illustrated. There's not a ton of stuff out about this yet because it's a pre-Kickstarter page that's up right now. But the cover looks gorgeous and the tarot cards from A Light in the Mist were gorgeous. I really really enjoyed that aesthetic. And this is actually a collection of a series of puzzles that they uh they put out like as an episodic thing called the cryptogram puzzle post, but they've added to it fleshed it out added a whole hint system that's completely playable offline. This doesn't require you to enter things into a website or anything. You can play this totally on its own. I'm excited to see this. I didn't play any of those cryptogram puzzle posts. So this will be totally new for me with the storm lamp rituals. Just look at those illustrations. It's so cool.

I just really appreciate the crafted aesthetic that post curious does and and I am very much looking forward to a book in that vein. Now, do you know if this is like solo or if this is a cooperative kind of thing? I mean it's I think with any of these you could play them in a small group as long as people can all see the materials, but I I think it's designed to be a one or two sort of person experience. You are looking at a book and figuring out puzzles, but just like you could do a crossword puzzle with a friend. Mhm. You could probably approach this the same way. Aw, crossword puzzles with a friend. I hate crossword puzzles. I'm terrible at them.

Words with friends Wendy says, "Nah, I want neither of those two things."

Yeah, if I play like Wordle or something, I mostly just get through to like two words and I'm like, "Hey Chris, what's the answer?" Yeah.

It's funny cuz it's true.

I'm bad at word games. But narrative games, that's a different kind of puzzle. I'd be down for this. Yeah, this looks really cool. This sounds neat. Yeah, and I do agree the art is fabulous. All right, um mine also has fabulous art. This is what I've been excited to talk about for a while and there's finally a Kickstarter landing page and this is Rosalee by Uchima Koya. So they did Sweetlands which was one of my favorite games from the last few years, honestly. Um absolutely fabulous game, very heavy economic Euro game. And so Rosalee is in that same universe, uh instead of being like cute candy and food buildings, uh this is you're a rose gardener and you're trying to make new hybrids of roses and you're trying to take care of your roses and whatever, but you're also doing the business side of things. So, um you're dealing with the different price changes of roses and those kind of things, you know, whole supply and demand stuff, economics, all that jazz of like the business-y part of Eurogames, plus the cool like gardening flowers part of games. And I'm like, "Ooh, I like both of those." So, I think the art is absolutely adorable. It has been on my uh lock screen on my phone for, I don't know, since like January of this year, pretty much since I first saw the the box cover, but we finally have some real pictures. And uh if you missed out on or you love Sweet Lands, um you can click the little like notify me when the Kickstarter starts. It starts in July.

So, there's still a little bit of time before it actually begins. They look fair like not I don't want to say fairly related, but like they definitely look they have the same genetics, you know what I mean? They're Yeah, but they look like they have the same kind of worker placement spaces and similar board structure. Obviously different mechanics, but Yeah, but you pull stuff off of your board and it looks like it makes more slots of things and stuff. There's a central board and a little bit of a table hog, maybe the biggest negative like looking into it, but cute robots, Eric. Oh, yes.

All these are adorable. Sweet Lands is one that I didn't get a chance to play at Dice Tower West. I'm hoping to correct that at Dice Tower East. Um I don't know if we ended up getting one of those onto the uh hot games table or if it's still too difficult to find. I don't know if we did. I don't remember. I think it is quite hard to find, yes, but we are trying to pull some strings. I mean Mhm. But there's one in the library. So. That will be nice.

to take pictures of all of the uh game of the year nominees for the, you know, production of the video for for uh the uh Dice Tower Awards show. And so, I have I have my checklist of all the games I need to at least check out of the library to take close-up shots of. So, that confirms it here. Eric is going to be singing about some games. I'm going to be singing. Ooh. All right. Well, I always look forward to that. Uh but yeah, very cool. Cool eye-catches. We're going to jump to the contributors, and then we'll be back with our top 10 list.

Hey, I'm Jordan. Let's talk about a week night game. Now, I did my top 10 games of the year um on the Dice Tower here. So, check out that video. This is a game that I played like maybe a week after I filmed that video. And this one 100% would have been uh on that list. And you got to like we always have to remember like top 10 lists are like top 10 the moment you make it, and then they're out of date almost immediately. But anyway, Tavern I love this game. This is uh Mighty Boards is bringing this one to the US. And this is a tableau builder game. Think like Big Sur came out earlier in the year that I I did really enjoy. And then uh maybe Santa Monica from a couple years ago. This one has that whole like tableau building, but you need the cards to connect in correctly as you're building out these streets. And you're building out these streets with houses and monuments and piers, and you're building them out in such a way that they're going to be connected. And every single card scores based off of the cards around it. So, this card might score for pigeons on the cards next to it. And this one might score for score for green cards on or green buildings next to it. And this one might um score for all the lamp posts in the entire row. And so, you're going to have these different streets, and you're collecting these cards, and there's some turn order manipulation based off of how you take the actions. All the actions are grouped. So, there's not just like oh you everybody takes a blue card every single round. It's like no, this turn I this round I get uh uh, two tokens, and I get to take a yellow action and a pink action. In the next turn I get to take uh, gray action and two blue actions. And every single time you have this interesting turn order manipulation with

that as you're collecting these cards and then adding these cards to your streets. And I think there's just so much interesting uh, interesting kind of uh, card drafting and then the building out of that is really great and the artwork is fantastic also from the designer. Um, it almost looks app-like but still unique enough that it doesn't feel overdone and I really appreciate that. So, 10B, really cool one. Uh, wasn't on my radar until I picked it up at PAX and I'm glad it was cuz this one is absolutely great.

All right, well as the school year wraps up as we talked about all of our kids are, you know, finishing up everything getting ready for potentially graduation or you know, graduating their grade, whatever it is. Um, we are dreaming of summer vacation. We are dreaming of the time that we can relax uh, except for us cuz we all have conventions all summer long. So, my first one So, we're going to talk about dream summer vacations and actually in the chat share your dream summer vacation because I get the chance to pick the number one answer from your suggestions. Uh, but my my first pick is based on real life Wendy. So, I really do have the dream and it's a very reasonable dream to in the middle of convention season after we've traveled like we have something every three or four weeks until the end of September and you have more. This is just me. Um, you have more conventions and Eric, I I you have more conventions. Um, I just mostly do the summer time because it's easy to get babysitting.

But I want to go on a cruise in the middle of the summer and just relax because I feel like all the travel that we do I just want a week of no work, no nothing. I want to sit by a pool. I want to have a fancy non-alcoholic, you know, mass amounts of sugar drink and I just want to chill for a week and have no requirements of socialness. Sounds amazing. It does sound nice. Yeah, plus cool shows, entertainment. You know what I mean? Like it it includes everything I want on this little boat. Yes. I can't disagree. Especially cuz you probably get to go with.

True. That's true. And unless the dream is to go without anybody else, just solo. That's true. I did bring a friend once and I had a little girls cruise. That was fun. Yeah.

It's a little weekend thing. That was uh and what would you say that was probably like the best anniversary gift you've ever gotten?

That was a really nice Christmas/anniversary gift that I got. Not last Christmas but the Christmas before. [clears throat] A very nice generous man got that for me. She didn't say best though so that doesn't count. Am I next or is it Eric? I think you're next. All right.

[clears throat]

So after I get back from tagging along on Wendy's cruise I know we just talked about how one of the things that we do the most is travel for board game conventions. And this is going to sound dumb but the thing is I do still love board game conventions. And I would like to go to the ones that we don't normally get to go to. I think it'd be really fun to hit up different ones. People keep asking, "Oh, will you be at Origins?" Now, you know, we we don't have time in our Dice Tower schedule to go to Origins or to the PAX conventions or like there's certain ones that we don't get to do. And the smaller ones like I say smaller and they're still multi-thousands of people but uh you know, I want to check out Geekway to the West uh sometime or even like Proto Atlanta. Like just Like there's tons of cool conventions out there. We went 2 years ago to uh Washington, D.C. for Circle D.C.

Mhm. And I don't know when we'll be able to make it out again there. But it'd be so cool because yeah, the historical wargame focused ones, ones that are focused more on like up-and-coming designers connecting with publishers, ones that are just long-standing cool conventions we've never gotten to see. Mhm. I think that'd be fun to just do like a tour to board game conventions. Yeah. I'd love to visit UK Games Expo or one of the Japanese conventions. Uh I get it. Um even after doing all of our events over the course of the summer and the year, yeah, I'd like to visit a few more. Yeah, absolutely.

something that's so special about the sit-down and play conventions. Like the the Gen Con kind of like big bustliness, it's a cool experience, but I just I like the I want to sit down and play with people conventions. Yeah. Or or just see a different vendor all full of publishers, you know, I don't normally get to see. And you know, I I I never want to complain about the the excess of cool things we get to see every year at Gen Con or whatever, but I want I do want to see different things, too. So anyway, yeah, that's my number nine, just the the board game tour. That's good. Very cool. Uh number eight goes back to my childhood. Uh I used to go on road trips with the family. We hauled a camper around with me and my three siblings and parents, and we would visit all sorts of uh locations, usually around Michigan, especially the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. And there was a tourist trap in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan called The Mystery Spot. I don't know if this place still exists. Uh if there's a Michigander in the chat, I would love to hear whether it still exists. Um it was just basically a like an outdoor funhouse tourist trap. I would love to just travel around and find the the the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota.

I would love to find um the the the crazy little wacky spots uh and hit tourist traps. I know there are uh catalogs of these places that you can just make as destinations. I love the weird gift shops. I love the cheesy aesthetics. I love the the billboards as you approach cuz many of these places have the best built. You like there are 18 billboards on the way to Sea Shell City on the way to Mackinac Island. Um I want to visit these places and go on a road trip and just, you know, let let the winds guide us where they may and see all the strangest things that America has to offer. Oh my goodness. I remember going on road trips and seeing all of these signs for alien jerky. And I never stopped and got alien jerky. Did you ever stop? Yes. Was it good? Yeah. Was it just jerky?

It was made of yeah, terrestrial beings, unfortunately.

Okay. But Those cows might have been sucked up into UFOs and then replaced back on the terrestrial land of Earth. I think it was just alien seasoning. It's the alien Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's the It's the what? Microbes from space?

That's uh that's a 50s schlock horror film right there. Mhm. Microbes from space.

Yes.

Uh nice reference to the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota. That's a wonderful Weird Al song. Who we are going to go see in concert.

Twine Ball or is that a different Twine Ball? I don't know what that is, Wendy. You put this picture together.

that was a different Twine Ball. There were a lot of Twine Balls. I was really surprised when I looked up on images how many different Twine Balls there were. The Minnesota Twine Ball I think is different. That one looks a little moldy. Like you know, it's not synthetic enough. It's not going to last 14 Turning into soil as we speak. All right. Back to you for number seven. Oh, yes. Number seven. So, I thought I was kind of along similar lines as you, Eric, but growing up we had an RV and we took that RV down the street to the Sam's Town RV Park and because they had a pool and we'd pay like 25 bucks a night to go swim in the pool and that was mostly what we did with our RV. We occasionally we would go out to the like the nearby desert and park it. Um but I really want to travel the United States in an RV because I do love the idea of camping in RVs um and having the bathroom with you as you go, laying down in the back bed, you know, while someone else is driving and just reading a book in the sunshine. Like there's something so nice about traveling in an RV.

But I want to actually travel in it and actually see things in it. Um and the the only cross-country road trip that I've done was us moving here to Florida in the middle of the pandemic and so nothing was open. There were no barrels of yarn to see. It was just like get there, get done. Here's your, you know, four or five days to get across the country, go. And so I want to I want to spend a summer enjoying it and going to the RV parks that are really cool and fun. Also will have pools uh but aren't necessarily attached to a casino, you know. I did not know that this is a desire that you had. It is. It would be fun. It's something that I don't think I'd ever do in in our current state in life, but I do think that this would be a lot of fun. I assume Tom would have words to say about Hey Tom, we're going to miss Three hour drive.

and Gen Con and uh we what are the whatever Summer Spectacular. Yeah. Uh

I mean you could just make it part of the route. You'll just, you know, stop by those places as you go through. Wow.

start we rent the RV at Dice Tower West. We take off all the time before East and then we make it to East. Interesting. Well, we're not going to be able to

no prepper requirements or jobs that have to deal with the prep of that at all. That's true. But my goodness, look at I mean look at that route that you've set for us cuz clearly this isn't just a picture you found on the internet. This is your dream route. Yes. Clearly not. No, actually there were a lot of pictures on the internet that did a very similar route. This is like the RV route to take, Chris. You should know. Sure.

I think that the pinpoints might be a little bit different, but that general like What about Colorado?

Do the southern chunk and then the upper chunk. You you just make a quick little I would probably go through the Midwest cuz we've done the south. So I would I would do Midwest and north. And because it's summer, I would definitely do the north because it would be beautiful.

I can't believe you're skipping South Dakota though. Like that's just Well, I mean As long as I got one of the Dakotas, that's all that matters. My number six, I thought about including things like I'm seeing in the live chat things like I like European castle cruises. Like all that sounds fantastic. And then I remembered that it was still summer. So like well,

I'd like to do that when it's less hot. So I'm going to just say water parks. I would just I we have we have a few water park choices that are within a few hours drive of us. So that'll be nice, but I wish that there was still just like a local water park. That's just a little less work, a little less prep to go to. Yeah. Or we hop in the RV. And then we hit up the top 10 best water parks in the United States. And maybe even Canada. And South Dakota.

Is there a water park in South Dakota? Someone please tell me. There has to be. It's just only open a little bit every year. Or it's indoors. It's one of those like that kind of thing.

Anyway, water parks. I love water parks. They're my favorite amusement They're my favorite amusement park. I love them so much. Awesome. So many stairs. So many stairs. Uh all right, my number five goes back to childhood again. Uh I have been to Space Camp twice over the course of my childhood, and I want to go back because did you know, Chris and Wendy, that you can go as a family to Space Camp? You can bring your child and they're like grandma can come, parents can come. There's a family weekend that you can go to Space Camp. Or or ditch the kids. There's an adult program that lasts a whole week. And so you can just space camp it up. I think they had um some some availability for this week at Space Camp, and I Why are you not there?

Why am I not there right now? I want to ride that 60 degrees. You could be piloting a shuttle right now. Where's Space Camp located? Huntsville, Alabama, the US Space & Rocket Center. Okay. And do you have to have a physical before you're allowed to go in the spinny thing? Like do we have to check our blood pressure? Is that like Can grandma go on that?

adult camp does that. There's probably a very extensive waiver. I don't remember signing a whole lot of stuff as a kid, but I bet there's a lot of waiver to get on the the uh 5DX chair right there. Um I would love to go on that. I've always wanted I love spinning. I'm one of those people that I can just spin forever.

Oh, you'll spin. I love spinning. So I want to spin on something that could be so intense that I might hate spinning. That'd be so cool.

It's uh it's something. I've been on that chair a couple times, and yeah, it's still I still remember it.

Wow. See, I don't love going to random carnivals, and they have, you know, the the whole like spinning machine like this set up with two bolts in the ground. Maybe uh maybe sort of passing inspection or whatever, but I would I would trust it at Space Camp probably more than more than the random carnies who They're like Yeah. Yeah.

Ride dreaded goat. I've been on that ride where you

solid. Where you spin in a circle and you have nothing holding you in. You're just in a gate, but it's the centripetal force that pushes you back, so you're not going to fall and then it goes up. Mhm. That's fun. You like spinning? I like spinning. You like spinning? All right. So, number four is spinning? Is that the Yeah. All right. Uh so, I have never been to Europe and it is on my bucket list of things I want to do. So, I would love to travel Europe and I don't want to have like a week or 2 weeks where I have to visit everything humanly possible. I want to spend an entire summer vacation in Europe. I want to spend lazy mornings asleep where I get to relax and then I want to spend the day touring really cool things and I just feel like vacations are so often like if I if I chill and relax, then I feel like I wasted it all. But if I go go go go go, then I feel like I need a vacation when I get home. And so, I just want 3 months to just thoroughly enjoy Europe. I want to eat my way through it. I want to see all the cool architecture, all the history, all of that. But I also want to come home feeling rested and not like I didn't sleep the whole time, you know?

These are some weird hamburgers that you chose pictures of here. Yeah, obviously. Yeah. Actually, the one on the right spaghetti. That makes sense.

Yeah. It's white rice. French spaghetti. Triangular. Le spaghet. I would really love to see Europe. Maybe in a less hot time of year. Well, no, because it's a lot of Europe's cold in the winter. I'm aware. All right. Fine. Fine. And rainy. When's their rainy season? Let's go not rainy season. That's true, yeah. When do you have the fewest hurricanes? Number three for me, New Zealand. There's a couple of reasons for this. One, it's New Zealand, right? It's like all of Europe except the good parts only and less Europe. I'm just I'm I don't really know what I'm saying.

want to go to the Lord of the Rings. You want to live in the Lord of the Rings. I know you. I think that Hobbiton is cool, but it is not the main motivator. I think that genuinely it's just such a different part of the world. Also, while it's summer in the northern hemisphere, it's winter in the south. So, the perfect summer vacation.

what it is. On top of that, it's just I mean it's just gorgeous, just beautiful. Hobbiton, I honestly would take it or leave it. Like if you told me we're going to take a trip to New Zealand, but we won't be able to go see the Lord of the Rings set, I'd be fine because the other stuff that's there is cool. Also, shout out, Garfield Games Studio is there. I would I would more likely pay a visit to that.

I think that that'd be cool. Sham and Sam and and Zack and those guys are like are super rad and super nice. So, I'd love to see that, but I mean just to go around and see the natural beauty of Garfield Games Studios and the natural beauty of the New Zealand you know, the just yeah, I almost said the New Zealand hemisphere, but I I stand by it. The New Zealandish hemisphere is what I want to see. That's my number three. There are probably far fewer tour buses at the Garfield Games Studios. See? Yeah, that's true. They need a big ball of yarn. New Zealand's largest sheep. Largest board game cover.

Covered in sheep yarn. Yes. Eric save me. All right, on to my final selection. Um Chris, you sort of covered this with your water parks. I want to ride roller coasters and I would like to do it in as many places as possible in one trip. The reason this is a dream is that my family will never do this with me. I want to like get a Six Flags season pass that covers the entire network and just hit all of them. Um ride all the big rides, do a day in each park, then travel to the next one, and just have this big, long, epic coaster-mongering schmorgesbord, and and see how sick I can get on all of these roller coasters. I would adore doing this. Um I just have never never been able to find a group to do it. Uh I mentioned this to my wife like "The kids are starting to get to the point where they're going to be out of the house. We will be empty nesters in the next four or five years." And and she looked at me like "This is what you want to do?" And like "Yeah."

No. So, she not do roller coasters? She's not a fan of roller coasters. She will attend one of these parks, but only one. That's That's the thing. We'll do We'll make a plan to go visit one. I want to visit a bunch. I want to, you know, do one, then drive to the next one, and maybe hitting tourist traps along the way, and then, you know, visit the next one the next day, and We'll drop a ball.

Next next year, at the end of Dice Tower West, the three of us will rent an RV, we'll drive across the country hitting up tourist traps and Six Flags parks, and in the middle of once we hit South Dakota, we'll take a quick trip to New Zealand, and then return. Wait, I thought in South Dakota we're going to hit up a water park that's indoors, so it's okay in this plan.

Zealand themed water park. Yes. Oh, that's not the same. I want to actually see New Zealand with you guys. Oh, they just have people walking around like Garfield Games costumes like "Hi, mate. I'm Shem. Oh, I'm Shem Phillips. Hi, mate. Board Games." It'd be so sad.

So sad. South Dakota, if you want to increase your tourism, give me a call. Yes. Oh, man. What's the [clears throat] number one pick, Wendy? All right. All right. On to the number one pick. Um this one just made me happy. My dream vacation is going to Toscana and renting out an old farm and just sitting there for 2 weeks enjoying the fields and wine racks and minding my own business. That sounds lovely. In the middle of nowhere, like in the middle of a farm, it probably smell really bad.

Probably smell really, really bad. But, you know, just just sit on a porch for 2 weeks. That'd be lovely. We don't have a porch. We don't have a porch.

That's how much of a dream vacation this has to be is like step one, the porch. Step two, farm. Yeah. We agreed in the game of EAT-O last night. We we taught some friends from church that Wendy should never own a horse ranch. Yes. We decided that it would quickly become a horse graveyard. I just know nothing about taking care of horses. So, yeah. It was like terrible things you would invest in, I think. I had like a 22. It was like the best and worst that you can invest in. It was like it would be bad if I invested in horse ranch. It wouldn't be the worst thing, but it'd be pretty bad. So, yeah. This though, I think you would thrive in this more than a horse ranch.

Yeah, on a porch. Oh, I thrive on porchness. I thrive on porchness. Lots of lemonade. All right. Well, thank you, Ikaba, for the number one answer there. We're going to jump to our final contributor block and then we'll be back with a game show led by one Eric Summerer. If you think your opponent is bluffing, you can call his bluff. But, if you're wrong, you will scream. Huh? But, if you're wrong, you will scream. You're not fine. Damn. Call my opponent could be behind this door. I think he's bluffing. He's not behind THIS DOOR. BOOM.

SCREAM IS A HAND MANAGEMENT BLUFFING card game where players race trying to get rid of their cards and have the lowest score possible in front of them at the end of each round. The end of the round is triggered when either a player left with two or less cards in front of him screams. Skipping their turn, claim to have the lowest score. His opponents have one more turn to play cards and if that player who screamed had really had the lowest score they get zero points. If not, they get a penalty of 10 points to be added to the value of his cards or when the deck runs out. Players alternate turn drawing cards either from the discard pile or the draw pile, discarding them, playing them for their unique abilities if drawn from the draw pile or swapping them with one or more of the cards. When swapping with more cards, they must have the same value. However, some of the cards are freestyle and a player can bluff and opponents can challenge the bluff. How do you win scream? One thing to be aware of is that most of this game your cards are going to be face down so that you're not going to see them.

Yeah, at the beginning of the game you're dealt five cards face down and one face up. You look at the face down card once, rearrange them and that's it. So that rearranging is important because you basically when you rearrange them make sure that it's something that works for you as far as for in your play area, you know, you have an idea about where they are. Number two is that as you're discarding, just be aware that some of these cards do have powers. The six for example I can I let you look at two cards. Sometimes it's good to use these powers because being aware of your play area, you might know what you have for numbers but you may not know where they are. My memory isn't good enough to keep track of Or not important cards. Thank you for your great card. I just realized I didn't put the lion on the

All right, it's time to play a game. It's the game show segment and this is going to uh to bounce off of my number my final selection, my number two from the top 10 list wanting to visit a theme park. Um Chris and Wendy, you are Florida residents. And uh I don't really I don't really know Florida geography very well, but in my mind you are next door to Disney World. Um and like during lunch hour, you will skip over and go to the Magic Kingdom for a little bit and then come back and do your afternoon work and I that's that's pretty much how I imagine your general day-to-day. Is that Am I close? I think you're pretty accurate and uh just to clarify there's zero traffic as well. The part that you missed The part that you missed is whether you're going to ride an alligator or a hurricane to Disney World.

I'd love to ride an alligator to Disney World. What is faster than the other? Yeah.

Hurricanes can run pretty quickly, but alligators

Um so we are going to play a game of timeline. Um timeline is a game where you have to put cards in order uh based on a date or some other metric that you're trying to to order. We're going to do it however with Walt Disney World attractions. I have a deck of cards and uh we are looking for the day and date that these attractions opened at Walt Disney World because sometimes a Disneyland attraction will have come over and it opened way earlier over in California. Um and uh the way timeline works is that we'll get two cards to start or one card and then the player will decide if that card goes before or after the first card. Uh and then the next player can either say, "Yeah, I think that's right." or challenge the order. And if you challenge and any part of the order is wrong, then the challenger gets the point. And if it's all correct, then the other player gets the point. And uh we're going to play until we run out of cards or time. That's That's generally how this goes. Any questions from the two of you?

A challenge. Are you challenging already? No, it's correct. So, Chris gets the point.

wrong, Eric. Yeah, excellent. So, we're going to begin our seed. Now, we're going to see how well this uh this this makes makes the camera work. The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular is the uh initial card here. That's a good one.

And uh let's say Wendy, you get to go first. Your next selection is the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. Did that come before or after the Stunt Spectacular? That's after. That is after Most definitely.

Okay, we're going uh early to late. Chris, you're Oh, you can Would you want to challenge that or do you want to uh draw a new card?

I think that stands correct, Eric. Excellent. So, we're going to add Mission: Space. This is uh the spinny one at Epcot. Ooh, Mission: Space.

[screaming]

This was this before or after Eric went to space camp for the first time? See, you're asking him to divulge his age, which I shan't do.

Um that's interesting. Mission: Space, I think this is the one that has Lieutenant Dan in the when you're like in the queue when you're in the line.

Lieutenant Dan is is in there, yeah. Yeah, and he he talks to you about space and everything. But, I think the ride predates predates him. I think. So, I'm going to say that it's before Indiana Jones live stunt show. Before Indiana Jones. Wendy, do you challenge?

Wendy, what do you think? Is that correct or is

accept your genius. The genius is accepted. All right, Wendy, we're looking at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Ooh, the Twilight Zone, not the not the the current one, right? Or is it still It's not Twilight Zone anymore. It's still Twilight Zone. Is it still Twilight Zone? In uh in In Florida, it's still Twilight Zone. It's Guardians of the Galaxy in California. Ah, that's what it is. Okay, I'm going to put it between Space and Indiana Jones. Chris, what do you think? If I challenge and I was the one who was wrong, I still get the point, right? You do, yes. If you're the one that screwed up, you still get the point because Wendy let it go.

So, the question is how unconfident am I about myself? Eric, I would like to challenge. I formally throw the glove. Mission Space opened on August 15th of 2003. Twilight Zone Tower of Terror was July 22nd, 1994. Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular was August 25th, 1989. So, this is all messed up.

And I don't think uh was April 2nd, 2007. So, yes, Chris gets the point by challenging.

That was a bluff. Oh, yeah, it was. Chris, you will begin the next round. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Pirates of the Caribbean, did that come before or after Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? Pirates predate or pre- uh which should I predate that other thing you said? Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Pirates of the Caribbean or Big Thunder? Pirates is older than Big Thunder. Wendy, do you agree? I disagree. I think Big Thunder's older. Pirates of the Caribbean opened December 15th, 1973. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad didn't open till the '80s, September 23rd, 1980. So, Chris gets the point there.

Aw. See see how fun this is? All right.

Pacific mentioned in Jurassic Park? Oh. That has nothing to do with the timeline. I was just guessing.

Wendy, we're going to start with Turtle Talk with Crush. That's uh Epcot in the Seas. The Carousel of Progress, before or after Turtle Talk with Crush? Oh, progress is before. Yeah, that one's an easy one. Yeah, we have it at progress. So, don't challenge. Don't challenge. You're absolutely right. Chris, Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Where does that go? Right in between. Right in the middle. Wendy, do you agree? I think I agree. All right. Tom Sawyer Island. Ooh, how come I get the hard ones? Oh, wait, my last one was easy. Yeah. Tom Sawyer Island. So, what do we have again? Carousel of Progress, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Turtle Talk with Crush. And this one is This is Tom Sawyer Island. You ride the river boat to get to the island with playground stuff.

I'm going to put it after progress. After the Carousel of Progress. Chris, do you agree?

And it's before before Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I still stand by this.

You're going to stand by this? Excellent. We're going to add The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Ooh, buddy. The many, not the new. Not the new, the many. Uh I'm going to go I'm going to go uh right after Tom Sawyer Island. So, it's going to go in the middle again. Between Honey I Shrunk the Audience and Tom Sawyer Island. Wendy, do you agree?

going to challenge so hard. All right. Carousel of Progress opened uh January 15th, 1975. Tom Sawyer Island was May 20th, 1973. So, that was a mistake. Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was June 5th, 1999. Honey I Shrunk the Audience was November 21st, 1994. So, also wrong there. And Turtle Talk with Crush was 2004. So,

mean I get two points cuz there were two things It was all wrong. Maybe. I'm catching up, Brian. Chris. catching up.

Fine. You earned a point. Fine. You earned a point and Wendy Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Mickey's PhilharMagic. Oh. Um let's do Little Mermaid first. Little Mermaid first. I don't actually know anything about PhilharMagic.

It's a auditorium thing with a bunch of 4D elements. They squirt water at you and stuff. Yeah. Are you happy with that? Was that a yes? You know I know I have I know nothing what I'm talking about. So but the thing is I'm going to leave it. I'm not No challenge. No challenge. We're adding Star Tours. Star Tours is before Little Mermaid. Before Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Wendy, do you agree? Oh, but then you're going to challenge me on your turn.

You don't know that.

I'm going to get it wrong. That's a strategy to do a bonkers choice and

challenge. This is my moment.

You're going to challenge? Star Tours, December 15th, 1989. Voyage of Little Mermaid, January 7th, 1992. And Mickey's PhilharMagic, October of 2003. Chris gets the point. Oh.

Correct. You might have gotten it right though.

Updated Mickey stuff. Wendy, Spaceship Earth. Goofy's Barnstormer, the roller coaster in the Magic Kingdom. Oh. Let's put Goofy later. Goofy's later. Chris, you agree? I agree. All right. Ellen's Energy Adventure. Ellen? Like Ellen Ellen's Energy Adventure. This is where Guardians is now. This used to be like Ellen DeGeneres Ellen? Epcot. Ellen DeGeneres's an Energy Adventure. Oh. Oh my gosh. Uh before Barnstormer but after Planet Ship Earth, After Spaceship Earth. Wendy, you agree? What was that movie? Battlefield Earth?

Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yeah, yeah, that's not the same thing. Classic. Sure, I'll agree. All right. Hit me. Hit you? Mhm. Journey into Imagination with Figment. That's going last. Last? I just have no idea what that is. I'm just going to go ahead and challenge. It's fair. Uh Spaceship Earth was like opening day of Epcot, October 1st, 1982. Ellen's Energy Adventure, September of 1996. Goofy's Barnstormer go Barnstormer was October of 1996. And Journey into Imagination with Figment is the newer version of uh that attraction. It was June 1st, 2002. So, It's all That's all correct.

So, I challenged incorrectly. I got a point.

You challenged incorrectly, making Wendy You have an unearned point, Wendy. No, I was totally right.

All right. Uh so, Chris, you're up. Dinosaur? Jungle Cruise. I don't know Dinosaur. I'm going to say Jungle Cruise is older. All right. Wendy, you happy with that? Sure. Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. Put that newest. Newest? Newest. Newest. All right, Chris, you happy with that? How many cards are a few? We're We're This is either the I think this is the penultimate round. Oh boy, okay, let's keep going. No challenge here. No challenge. Test Track. Oh. Ooh, what's the what's the oldest one that we're saying is the oldest one currently? Uh Jungle Cruise is what we're saying is the oldest.

Then Dinosaur, then Buzz Lightyear. I know Test Track is [snorts] has been around a bit. I'm going to say I'm going to say it's oldest. It is the oldest of the bunch.

Wendy, wrong side.

Wrong side.

You put it on the newest edition.

Oh, oldest as in It is older than the Jungle Cruise. Older than Jungle Cruise. Wendy, I challenge. Challenge. TestTrack is absolutely younger than the Jungle Cruise. TestTrack was 1999. Uh Jungle Cruise was October 1st, 1971. I believe that is opening day of the Magic Kingdom. Dinosaur was opening day of uh Animal Kingdom, April of 1998. And Buzz Lightyear was October of 1998. Uh so, yeah, the challenge is correct, which was Wendy's challenge.

We're tied up.

tied, which means we need to do one more round. This is for all the marbles.

This is amazing. Wendy, you're up first. Expedition Everest, the roller coaster from uh Animal Kingdom. Maelstrom, which was uh Norway. It's now the Frozen ride. I'll put it uh Nor- Nordstrom? Nor-

Maelstrom. I'll put Maelstrom as older. Maelstrom is older than Expedition Everest. Chris, you agree? Currently, yes. Space Mountain. Older. Older than both? Yes.

I'm going to challenge. This is my only challenge. My chance to win. I'm so close.

Space Mountain was January 15th, 1975. Maelstrom, July 5th, 1988. Oh, no.

And Expedition Everest, April 7th, 2005. This is correct.

And Wendy, you threw it away. Ah. They say it was your game to lose and um you did it. You did it.

[snorts]

You know what?

Eric says you did it. My losing streak has been solid.

I'm so proud of myself. Next on the list was going to be Muppet*Vision 3D, but we didn't get there. But that's fine. Oh, 3D technology didn't exist until like 5 years ago. Yep. Was that the last card, Eric? Uh no, I had uh the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, the Great Movie Ride, the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, Kali River Rapids, Astro Orbiter, Splash Mountain, and Soarin still to go. Wow. Wow, we could have played a whole 'nother round. We could have.

could have, but time Time has gotten away from us. It is of the essence. Mhm. Yeah.

The essence essence is fading. Time

away. Time gets the best of us all. All right. Eric, thank you for that little jaunt down a summer uh a a summer dream vacation where I felt like I was there at Disney with you.

So many note cards. So many note cards. Eric, when do you want to plan this RV trip to go to ride every big roller coaster and see every largest peanut in every state? We might as well do it right after East, I think. Okay. I mean I'm going to see you guys then and then we'll just leave from there. That's true. Then we could just meet up at Gen Con. Yeah, that works.

Sure. All right. I don't think I have anything else going on. Yeah. I don't need to work. Hey, you can record books on THE ROAD.

[screaming]

YES.
