6:17 hey friends it is Jenna what is up and welcome back to the board game garden and welcome to a solo Sunday Vlog I am actually in a different spot right now because I ended up kind of clearing out this room which is my office you guys have probably seen the other half of this room but this half back here used to be where I ran my small business planning roses but planning roses has officially shut down I do have some stock right here that I'm just kind of keeping to like gift to people and just to like have some copies of the planners that I designed so I do have like 10 to 15 of each of my planners just because I I wanted to keep them um but yes anyways you guys have already seen this morning that I got up had my breakfast had my coffee hung out with the dogs upstairs and I actually ended up playing a game upstairs and I kind of want to with these Vlogs I found the last two that I've done I've kind of just stayed in the exact same spot for the entire Vlog just playing games and I kind of want to switch it up and bring you guys to different spots of my house to play games I really do enjoy going upstairs to my like living room area and playing smaller more chill coffee table games um at my coffee table so I ended up playing the first game of the day um up there so that was reforest this is a game by fire starter games and this is a game of

7:47 strategic Forest succession which I really really enjoyed this one it's a like very small box I almost said huge box this is definitely not a huge um this is a very small box it plays one to four players and it has some really cool um multi-use cards which is one thing that um I wanted to mention is it is now March and there is a new um board game Garden solo Focus mechanism for the month and the mechanism for March is multi-use cards and I didn't know that actually at the time that I was picking the games um for today which over on my patreon I do do a poll every once in a while of solo games that I'm thinking about playing for a solo Sunday um and my patrons get to vote on the ones that they most want to see so a lot of these are the ones that were most voted for over there and a few of them ended up being multi-use card games so one being reforest which this is kind of one that I chose it had a little less votes than others but um this one is just like a smaller game that I've been really wanting to play and I really like to have have a good mix of bigger games and smaller games when I do these um solo Sunday Vlogs so I ended up playing reforest I really enjoyed it um it kind of reminds me a little bit of um Forest Shuffle in a way but it is still very different all the cards are going to have some like when played abilities or

9:19 they're going to have like final scoring abilities different things like that um and you're going to be playing your cards um and then the way that you pay for your cards to be place down is discarding other cards and you're able to layer cards on top of one another and you're basically going to be creating this like Mountain shape of different plants um so you have like three on the bottom then two then one on the top and like I said you can layer on those different spots there's only six spots in your Tableau but then you can um stack things on top of one another um but you're also kind of going for these different objectives each round so you're playing over three rounds and there's going to be three animals that are randomly chosen that are wanting different things and you're going to have to go for those and one animal scores at the end of each round um and depending on the round that the animal is in you're going to have a certain amount of that specific objective that you have to get to which I really enjoyed and overall I really like this one um I do want to play it more solo I also wouldn't mind playing it multiplayer I feel like it would probably just be a multiplayer solitire game where basically the only kind of interaction is the drafting of the cards I saw a few cards when I was playing that had something to do with another player or the other players at the table that sort of thing um so yes that was my first game um I also have a few other games that I want to play I think this is going to be the next one that I play which is news boys this is from Sashi

10:51 and Sashi I actually ended up picking this up at oh wait no I think I got this in Japan which is pretty fun um so I will be playing News Boys which is a Rolland right and then another Rolland right that I've been wanting to play solo um for a while is flip town so I did play flip Town multiplayer at Breco con last year so it's been a very long time because it's almost breakout con time again but I'm excited to play this one solo as well those are like the two smaller ones that I feel like will be a little bit easier to get to the table and then lastly we have two bigger ones which I will probably end up playing later tonight Francis and I are actually planning on going to uh Korean a Korean restaurant for dinner so I'm going to bring you guys along for that um but one game that I really want to get to the table today is Raiders of cyia this is a game by garl games and it's one that I've wanted to play for a very long time and also it has multi-use cards as well so it works out for my multi-use multi-use card March um and then lastly we have have another bigger game that I'm going to try to play tonight as well which is Nova Roma which is another one that I've been really wanting to play solo for a while played it multiplayer really enjoyed it and I feel like the um solo mode of this is pretty straightforward and should be a lot of fun so yes we have four games that I'm wanting to get to the table I will also

12:21 mention that if you are a patron and you saw that Expeditions by ston Meer games that was I think one of the top games that was voted on over on patreon that one I will be doing a separate um live stream solo playthrough for so very excited for that I'm excited to see that a lot of the patrons are excited to play that um or excited for me to play that uh but anyways let's set up either flip town or news boys and let's get playing some games which I think I'll play um some of them here I have like a new little table here which this is definitely not you guys can see I have more games in the background here you guys will see um the transformation of this room in a video probably within like 2 months you guys can see here that I'm like nowhere close to finishing the transformation of this room um I think this kind of background here is going to be a new filming setup for me which I think will be really nice I put a rug down in here so it's not as echoey in here because it is actually a pretty big room once I got everything cleared out um I realized that it's quite a large room um but yeah you guys will see a whole video on me redoing this room which like I said this half is going to be a new filming setup so I can switch up the filming setup I might also start doing live streams in here instead of out in my board game room we will see um and then the other side of the room that you guys can't see is my office which

13:53 will primarily stay the same my desk is going to stay in the same spot I'm just going to decor a little bit more and then also in here I think I'm going to paint all the walls like a dark green which I am so excited it has been my dream to have a fully dark room for a really long time cuz I just love the like dark walls kind of Moody Vibes um of some rooms and we don't have any rooms in our house that are dark so anyways I'm going to stop yapping apologies for this intro being so long um but we are going to get into playing some games the

16:52 all right so I just quickly wanted to show you guys kind of the gist of how News Boys plays basically you're just trying to get to these different I guess like neighborhoods each of these little groups of colors are neighborhoods every time you fill up a neighborhood you get to X off that color here and then every time you get a column of all of the different colors you're going to get a certain amount of victory points but that's only if you uh get it before this certain scoring which happens three times you have the star scoring Diamond scoring and then Circle scoring um so this Little X here was the um star scoring so basically if I didn't get the second row or column filled before the star scoring I would have gotten the one Victory Point instead of the three um and then like some of these are going to be like less points if you don't get them by a certain scoring based off of this little chart over here um also you're going to be collecting money as well as this kind of row up here which is I think it's like the the strike track or something like that um but basically you're trying to kind of keep them equal because at the end of each of these different scoring phases you're going to get the Lesser ones so for me the strike track or whatever it's called was always the the lower one but yeah you get money from scoring or Xing off different hexagons in here and then basically each turn you're going to be

18:22 flipping over one of these cards which they're double-sided so whatever you have on these two cards here are going to be added to your dice roll but you can decide to roll twice so you could keep anything that you wanted and then roll um so you can roll twice and then you just count up the um one color that you want to use there's also these like uh question mark ones which you're allowed to make it any resource that is not shown on any of like the cards or any of the other dice so right now you know yellow and blue are shown but if this was the question mark I could make the question mark any of the other colors aside from yellow or blue and then there's like certain cards put throughout the deck that trigger the different um scoring like I said the star Diamond and circle so yeah anyways that was a lot of fun I really enjoyed that one all right so I am not used to holding this camera cuz this is one of like my bigger cameras and it's very heavy but I am trying to decide if I want to set up one of the bigger games um cuz Francis

19:54 and I are going to be leaving to go to Korean in like 45 minutes so I'm trying to decide if I want to set up one of the bigger games and then just chill go out for Korean and then come back and play one of them or I could play flip town and I don't know if you guys can hear but Penny's snoring she's so cute um or I can play flip town now and then when I get back just worry about the two bigger ones so I think I might do that just so that when I get back I can just get comfy get cozy we're going to set up the bigger game in the board game room for sure um Raiders of cythia the board's like ginormous but um I also think that Nova Roma the board in that one is dry nomor as well so we have to play both of those in the board game room which I'm okay with because the board game room is super cozy and I can put on some like lowii on the TV or like the fireplace channel and play those two but I think yeah for now I think I'm going to go upstairs maybe and I'm going to play flip town upstairs which I've been watching this um anime recently called frein I think is how you pronounce it and I've been loving it so maybe I will play some flip Town while I watch some of that

23:28 all right friends so I am finished with my game of flip town I don't think I did very good I'm going to quickly check my score because Francis and I want to leave for dinner soon so I need to go get dressed and whatnot but I wanted to check the kind of little graph in the back of the rule book which I playing a standard game so there's no like fancy things to it um oh actually with character which I used a character I got the Marshall which I didn't love because they just have a special ability that once per game with the sheriff or when the sheriff attempts to arrest you may draw a card and use it as the sheriff card so I kind of avoided getting like The Wanted signs and stuff um so it was kind of pointless for me to have the Marshall card because I didn't use their ability but um I scored with the character so I scored 53 which is so bad bad and that is literally the worst that you can possibly get Which is less than 55 oh no so I did very bad it is called tender-footed that is what I got if I was just playing the standard game which I think if I was playing the standard game I just would have not started with these specific resources um and I didn't use his ability anyways so I would have been the next step up which is Rusty so I don't know if I would prefer to be tender footed or Rusty but your girl did

25:00 not do good I feel like I need to play flip town a lot more in order to get better at it I actually really really like this game I remember enjoying it a lot multiplayer but it plays super quick solo you're just drawing three cards and then deciding what you want to do with those cards one of them is your poker card and then the other two you're using one for its suit and one for the value of the card and then you're doing different things on this area there's like one kind of miname per suit and then based off of the value that you choose you can do different things in each of those mini games so yeah I really enjoy it um the only thing that I don't love is like the poker hands which I feel like it's very very difficult to get anything good with the poker hand I think I focus too much on trying to get a good poker hand and I think that actually screws me over for getting good um things done on the map because whenever I flip over those three cards each round or each turn I am first looking for a card for my poker hand which I feel like is probably not the best thing to do and then most of the time you get screwed over and you don't actually get anything good all three of my poker hands for the three rounds were just pairs because I couldn't get anything better than that um I almost got a flush which is all the same suit um but I got four and then I got to the last card and it just that suit didn't come up so you kind of get screwed over you don't have a lot of control with the poker hands so I need to you know not

26:33 pay attention to it so much so anyways I'm going to go upstairs I'm going to get dressed we are going to go and have some Korean food which I've been craving for a very long time now so uh I'm very excited for all of the spicy Korean food um so I'm going to take you guys along I'll show you what we get and then once I get back I am going to try to play both Raiders of cyia as well as Nova Roma so fingers crossed I get those both played if not that is okay like I said with my past solo Sunday Vlog I never want to like pressure myself to get as many games played as possible these Vlogs are meant to just be chill just play games that I want to play and have a fun relaxing Sunday so yes anyways let's go get some Korean food

28:51 Hello friends I am back from Korean which was absolutely amazing I ended up getting um I know it as Army stew but it's called Uh it starts with a B I'll put the word right here that is the dish that I got it's basically a stew or like a soup that has a bunch of different things in it it has like Ramen tofu spam sausage um it also has like some cabbage as well and kimchi and a bunch of things in it it's absolutely fantastic it's very spicy but very good um but after we went to Korean we went to Boba so I got a Thai milk tea and then we also stopped by the grocery store and they have all of their Easter stuff out so your girl got some peeps a lot of people make fun of me for enjoying peeps but I absolutely love them comment down below if you also like peeps I know they're literally just marshmallows which is sugar covered in sugar but it's delicious and they're adorable and I love them but anyways I am going to set up Raiders of cyia we are going to play this one first um it is currently pretty late it's actually 8:30 already which is crazy so I am going to play Raiders of cyia and I might end up extending this Vlog until tomorrow and maybe getting up and playing um Nova Roma tomorrow we will

30:24 see or I will just stay up late tonight and play no Roma tonight as well so depends on how long it takes me to play Raiders of cythia but I'm super excited to play this one it's been one that I got a little bit ago um a huge thank you to garel games they did send this as a review copy um they also sent the really nice like metal coins which I was not expecting um but yes it's been one that I've been really wanting to try so we are going to get started like I said I'm going to set it up and then we will start playing which um this one does have multi-use cards like I said so it fits in perfectly with the multi-use card March mechanism for the uh for game Garden solo Focus a

32:20 all right so I'm all done setting up Raiders of cyia I'm just about to jump into it but I kind of wanted to give you guys like an overview of the game because I have a feeling I'm going to really enjoy this one um basically you are trying to raid these different areas there are four different sections here on the board and then this top area here that you can barely see um is where a lot of your actions are going to be so on your turn you either going into town to do some sort of worker placement thing um each player starts with one worker and eventually you're going to be able to get gray workers and red workers which allow you to do do things a little bit better um but right now I can only place a blue worker I could place a blue worker get whatever it is here which actually a blue worker gets me more here than it does here interesting so I guess at some places it's you know depends on the worker but I would be able to go here which is a silver smith I would get some coins there and then you actually have to pick up a worker from a spot and then you get whatever's on that spot as well which I think is a really cool worker placement mechanism that I haven't seen in any other games um so yeah you're placing getting something taking off getting something so that would be one of your turns or you can decide to go and raid one of these different places which there is Greece Persia Assyria as well as Samra I think is how you pronounce it um obviously the

33:52 top one is a little bit easier and then they get more difficult as you go down and then also as you raid these different places a tile is going to get flipped over and that's going to be a like Quest that you're going on that you have to give in resources in order to gain victory points um but the way that you're going to be doing the um raids is you're building up a team of Warriors so right now I am actually going to be choosing a set of like starting Warriors so so each of these sets include one hero which is going to be your hero they're going to get a special spot on your board here but then you also also have a like secondary kind of crew mate that gets to go into one of your five spots here at the beginning of the game for free and this is where the multi-use cards aspect kind of comes into it um because you can use these crew cards in different ways so so some of them are going to have ongoing things that allow you to gain something when you do something else um the heroes basically have an ability that you can trigger whenever you go to a specific spot and some of the crew members even have like if they die in war or when raiding uh you get some sort of um reward as well so yes you're going to be gaining these different or uh wound tokens on your different crew members eventually if they exceed their strength that's in the top leftand Corner then they will um like get discarded and some of them do have actions that when they are

35:23 discarded you get something so yes I also have like the most ginormous like sweater blanket udy snuggy thing um and it is very cozy but it's also ginormous and I'm scared that I'm going to like knock things over but it's fine everything's fine okay so I am going to pick my kind of set here so this hero whenever I go to that specific spot which I think it's the Town Center I get to spend two silver to gain a horse which horses can be uh tucked and your crew can be riding horses which I really do want to get some horses cuz they're really cute um so that is that hero the other hero here is complete a quest and gain one cumus which cumus is I believe these things which can help you with um getting your strength up which is kind of nice um so that's really cool because basically you cannot um complete a quest unless you go to the chief's tent um I guess I could then go to the town center and also complete a quest and then also gain a cumas which is nice um this is the Barbarian and I gained two strength when raing Greece which is nice because Greece is the hardest place and then also if discarded I can gain

36:55 one eagle which Eagles are going to be tucked at the top horses are going to be tucked at the bottom and then this one here I have the marauder alongside him uh she gains one Victory point when raiding Assyria which is the second one here and then if discarded draw one card and take another town center action ooh I think I like these two I think I'm going to take this one so I have harasu and The Marauder no I've changed my mind I want this one so I'm actually going to get sparra as well as the Barbarian okay that was a hard decision so those are my two starters and then I also do get three cards here or not three cards I get five cards and then I have to uh discard two of them so I'm going to do that and then we are going to get right into Raiders of cythia very excited I also have my peeps I also forgot to mention that that the solo mode is actually super easy where basically you're just flipping over a card and then you just go through a few things if the AI has those specific things they will end up rating um the AI will block one spot here each round as well so it'll tell me what location I can't go to on my next turn um and then the AI doesn't like collect any resources um the resources are these here there's like the three four

38:26 different resources that you are raing for um then you're going to be using those resources to get horses and um do different things obviously complete quests and stuff as well so yes the AI seems very simple which I really appreciate so I think I'm going to try to raid one of these pretty early um also I will say this looks pretty nice the uh gold is pretty good and at the end of the game every gold you have is going to be worth two victory points so it's really nice to have the gold but when you are raiding a spot that has a gold you have to roll a gold die which might potentially give you more wounds so also I don't have in play yeah I don't have the one that I thought I had in play which was the get one Victory Point whenever going to Assyria so I think we're good I think my goal here is to eventually get down to Greece um I would love to be able to raid Greece eventually so I think we might just want to progressively kind of go from one area to another and raid kind of more difficult things as the game goes on so um I would love to get out one of my characters this is the forager which she gives you additional Provisions when going to the farm but she is zero strength so she's

39:59 going to help me not very much when going into raids so you will need Provisions when going into raids because you have a certain amount of Provisions you have to spend um I only have one provision right now I have three strength so I think right away I am going to go up here to the farm and I'm going to get two Provisions one two and then I have to pick up a worker and also gain something from there so should I do that and then I can maybe yeah maybe I will do that I'm going to go I'm going to pick up the worker from the Town Center that's going to either allow me to play one of these cards for their kind of discard um ability or their play ability um rather than their you know higher crew ability um so I could do that and do whatever's on here or I could do my Hero's ability so I think I'm going to do my Hero's ability and I'm going to spend two silver to gain one horse so I'm going to do that and I have a one strength horse a three strength horse and a two strength horse um I think I'm going to get the three strength horse it's the really pretty black

41:30 horse um and then I just slide that under and now my Barbarian is riding a horse that's going to add three strength to my RAID strength so as of right now I have a strength of six so that's pretty good I actually might go on my next turn and just try to raid there all right then we go on to the ai's turn the AI does start with one provision um I will say that there are four different kind of difficulties of AIS I'm playing on the least difficult one um so this is going to um show me kind of what the AI is going to do if they're able to um so this is a grease card so they are definitely not going to be able to raid grease basically you're supposed to see are there any available spaces or raids in Greece there is so you go down to the next thing the next thing is does the AI have five Provisions they do not have five Provisions so you stop there you go over to the right and that is what they get so they're going to get two Provisions because they didn't have enough Provisions for this card so obviously they need more Provisions so we're going to do that and that is the ai's turn super easy so if they did have the correct amount of Provisions it would go down to the next thing it would see if it had the correct amount of strength um so this would be six if they didn't have any strength they would gain a horse and then if they did have the right amount

43:01 of strength then they would gain 13 victory points so that is everything which this actually reminds me I need to replenish the horse that I took and then it is now back to me which this card says that I cannot go to the chief's tent which is fine because I think I am going to actually go and raid I think ra away I think I'm just going to raid because I have six strength just kidding I actually can't do that because I don't have the right amount of crew I need to have at least two crew in order to do that so we're going to step back from there and I think I think I might I have one coin so I think I actually might play a card so I'm going to place in the barracks which allows me to either hire a crew or I can spend one Kunis which are these um I think they're supposed to be like a drink um I could spend one of those to get rid of two um wounds but I'm not going to do that so I'm going to spend one coin and I'm going to hire the tattooist she's going to go there and now I have two um crew members so I'll be able to raid on my next turn okay so then back to the AI which actually no not back to the AI because I get to

44:32 take one off which I think I'm going to take the meeting tent off because I'm going to take the meeting tent action which is I'm going to gain some more crew cards so I'm going to gain two crew cards um I could also gain one crew card and two kunas but I'm not going to do that and then my tattooist here is gain one Kunis after taking a meeting tent action so I'm going to get the Kunis right there all right so that is everything for me we're going to go over to the AI boom did I I did not take a chef or Chief's ttin okay so we are going to look at oh I think they're actually going to do this so uh Samra they're going to look at Samra they're going to actually do this one here which it just requires one provision so they do have one provision uh but they actually do not have two strength so they need two strength in order to do that they do not have that so they are going to take a horse they're going to take the furthest right horse they're going to add that there we're going to replenish the horses here and that is everything for them I actually thought they were going to get that one but they did not um okay so then like I said I am going to raid now now I can actually do it cuz I do have two crew members I'm going to place my worker here I need two crew members

46:05 and I need to spend three Provisions I have a strength of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 which I only need four in order to like successfully um get the victory points for it um so I do still need to though roll a die which again is kind of pointless but but I got a four so everything's good there and I am going to successfully raid which one do I want to raid I'm going to do this one here so I'm going to get two black a gray and a brown they actually have specific names for them but I forget what they are I'm going to gain this gray worker and then this is going to flip over oo okay so this one here is if I can spend two brown a gray and a black I will get seven victory points which I just need one Brown in order to do that so seems pretty easy uh okay so then I also do with that gain one Victory Point boom and that is everything for me we're going to move back to the AI flip this over so it does highlight the spot that I just rated on the card but it says if that one is already r you just go from there and go uh to the next one so yes this one is still available yes they do have two Provisions to spend so

47:36 they're going to spend those they do have two strength so the two strength that they're using is actually going to be discarded so that horse is going to be discarded and then they are going to gain five victory points so they're going to go up to the five these resources are going to get discarded and this Quest is going to flip over and then I believe this worker also gets discarded as well okay so that is everything for the AI it is back to me I am not allowed to go to the staes um but I think I'm going to continue playing this and then I let you guys know how it is at the end

49:44 all right friends so I am all finished with my first play of Raiders of cyia and honestly I'm not surprised but I really did enjoy it I just am a huge sucker for shem's designs and garle games I just I just love the way they work and just everything it feels like Hefty and like it's super strategic but the like overhead and the rules like they're AR they aren't like extremely extremely difficult so I just feel like all Garfield games um for the most part are just in that like perfect um kind of complexity that I love and loving all of the garle games or enjoying all the garl games um it helps that all of them have the same kind of iconography and then obviously all of them or most of them being designed by Shem his designs just I don't know they just work for my brain and it's a lot of fun so this one like I said I did really enjoy it I did end up um winning I ended up with a score of 99 which I don't know if that's a good score or not I ended up getting a total of six of the quests which was good the AI also got six of the quests but they didn't get as many um of their raids because I was playing on the like easiest difficulty I feel like it was uh or it basically makes it harder for the AI to build up to being able to do raids so um yeah I

51:17 will probably play it on a harder difficulty next time but the AI ended with a score of 82 so 82 to 99 still pretty close game I was like neck and neck with the AI the entire time so now that I know how to play and I know a little bit more of the strategy I feel like I can go up to that next level which is just perfect um but yes super fun I will say the the like worker placement part of it where you're placing a worker on and then taking a worker off is really interesting because you always have to pay attention to the worker placement spots that you're covering up but then also the worker placement spots that you're making available for your next turn and then also because each the worker placement spots requires or sometimes gives you better or worse uh rewards for different colored um workers you really have to pay attention to where you're putting those colored workers and like when you're taking them off when you're putting them on so I really really liked that part of it um and then also like building up your group or your crew and then also your hero super fun yeah overall really enjoyed this one I'm really really happy that I uh tried it today it did take me a little bit longer than I thought my brain is not really fully here today and I I found myself getting uh like sidetracked by things quite often so it ended up taking me about two 2 and 1

52:48 half hours to play so not horrible but um still a little bit longer than I thought it was going to take and now it is almost 11:30 and I don't know if I want to start Nova Roma tonight so I think what I'm going to do is I'm actually going to maybe play Nova Roma during a live stream maybe I'll do a live stream this week of NOA Nova Roma on uh Thursday um I also am going to do a live stream of expeditions by stonem games so we'll see which one I would do this Thursday and then maybe I'll do the other one next Thursday so those will be maybe the two next games that I decid to get to the table for a live stream but I think for today I don't think I'm going to get to Nova Roma so apologies if you really wanted to see that but you still will be able to because I will do a live stream for it so anyways I think I'm going to clean this up and then I think I might just get one of my comfort games out I think I might get maybe like tangram city has been one that I've really enjoyed or I'll maybe just look around and see if there is a game that I really enjoy that's easy to get to the table that has multi-use cards um off the top of my head I can't really think of any right now but I'll look around I will grab a game that I just already know and uh I might take that upstairs and play a little cozy game in the living room while I watch some of my anime um cuz I didn't end up doing that before when I was playing flip town I
