Quotes (from this video)
  • It's been another month. September. It's been quick.
  • We played 22 new to us games.
  • The most fun experience is not a game Oh. in itself.
  • It's basically in between all of this, finding time to play escape room games.
  • Because you you could flip the sheet. You can do that with every single game. But most of the time it's not going to be anything on the back. It's like oh, it's blank or it's the same thing on the back. But here is like a game mechanism that you flip around and you write on the other side and you have to pop out the other Yes.
  • I had zero hope for. And then we played it and it was a lot of fun.
  • It is very simple, but it does what it tries to do in a very good way. It's a great filler and it was a huge surprise how much I like this game.
  • It sounds like a game that I would hate.
  • Because a let down for me is a game I was like, I think this is going to be good. Most of these games were fun.
  • Railway Boom is a upcoming Spiel release coming out from Cranio Creations.
  • It is very cool. You are building out you're doing train game stuff. But there is technology that's kind of different.
  • It is a cute but crunchy two-player game.
  • It's a card game except that it also has other components.
  • This was a great game. Another one that could almost have been on like the biggest surprise.
  • And they spoke about this game. I was like, 'Oh, is that the theme?' And I was like No, but I was like it it was like He said like, 'Oh, then you roll the dice and that tells you kind of what your person want to do.'
  • My number one is Ants because it's great. Not aunts. Not aunts. That's a different game.
  • This was one of those games that gave me that feeling of, 'This is fun.' Yeah. This is giving me joy. This is just like fun fun fun fun.
  • Calypso could also basically have been my biggest surprise.
  • I'm saying this even though it is a sponsored play-through, so you can throw away my thoughts if you want to, but this is just my I played it competitive first.
  • This is one of the most fun games I played in a long time.

  • So, this is um yeah, maybe it is rare. Maybe it's going to worth a lot in the chart, but it's dented a little bit.
  • This is a two-player game kind of like push and pull by uh Korea board Korea board games.
  • So, this is the only one that I got from Korea Board Games and hoping this is going to be a fun two-play game that we got we can bring to Bali in our family visit soon.

  • Yeah, laser cut. And including the potatoes. It's very good.
  • Caution signs is one of the one that we got from Essen.
  • This is again, this is not new, but this is a good party game plays a lot of people, which is what is it now? Nine players up to nine players where one person is a guesser, the other one is drawer. You have 20 seconds to draw a combination of stuff and the guess I will need to and the cards would get mixed.
  • You will get an adjective and a noun and draw them together.
  • Very good there.
  • Yes. And then it's kind of so clovery you have to or a guesser has to align them correctly. Yes.
  • Good fun. So this is uh we've got three things from Delicious Games this year.
  • One you've seen last time which is the underwater city expansion. Second one is Aquaria. This is a Thomas Hollik game.

  • Yes, Punic War game from Felank.
  • And over there we have Children of Coloss. This might have the most heft to it. This is Yes, it is quite heavy. Children of the Colossi which I also show in photos um that it's kind of like a there's a area control but also there's uh you want to send your work in here for your control. want to send it up there in the mountains to give you more powers. So that difficult decision.
  • Um they've got lots and lots of them but and by the end of essence spill I see that they almost none. So I don't know maybe they sold out as well.
  • And this is not new. I don't know if this is this year's release. I'm pretty sure this was kickstarted.
  • So they're very big this year though. Jaggi. Yes.
  • Yeah. And we also had a alternative rule to some of using some of the components for
  • It needs more love.

  • I think this drafting mechanism would drastically change it at higher player count because at a higher player count when you have four players, all three tiles that are out there after your turn could be gone by the time it's your turn again because they and other tiles may come out or even with three players, two of those tiles are going to be gone.

Quotes (from this video)
  • So, these are 10 games. And of course, if we did this one in four months, it would look different because we would know more about the year.
  • So, I'm very um I'm curious about how they're resolving this mechanically because that seems like a little chaotic game. I'm not sure how that lands with me.
  • But the thing that makes it very interesting is that you're not just playing as the archaeologists, you're also playing as the tribes. So, it's like a not a time travel game, but you are doing stuff in the past that might I don't know how, but it might then affect the present.
  • So it makes it makes for them to be very unique and thematic games that I think and also it make great games not just thematic ones.

  • My rating's going to be get regular Codenames instead. It's a better game system.
  • I would say that overall the game is cute, charming, easy to play, fairly accessible.
  • Overall, I enjoy it. The biggest critique I have is for a game that's kind of has this low stakes to it.
  • But it's a three out of five. It's a decent game. I had a fun time with it. But it's one of those games that once you play it two or three times, you've kind of seen everything the game has to offer.
  • So I wanted to like this one, but I found it more of a frustrating experience to visually take in everything that's going on the table.
  • Gloomhaven is easily my favorite game on this table with a fun little planting system as well as harvesting system and multiple things you're trying to do as you balance all those needs.
  • And then lastly, Harry Potter Codenames Back to Hogwarts, as much as I do enjoy it, I just would rather play Codenames, regular Codenames, any day of the week.

  • So, the criteria these games need to fulfill are one, that they set up and pack away easily. Two, that you can fit them onto a kitchen table rather than a big gaming table. Three, that they are excellent for two-player, but not necessarily only good at two-player. and four, have a reasonably short play time, or at least the ability to save the game after a short amount of play so you can return to it later. Oh, and five, games you can play a heck of a lot.

  • Earth to me is like the ultimate ultimate feelgood game. Like you are going to find success in Earth no matter what you do.
  • Um, and to me, uh, the feeling of progress without any kind of uh counterbalance to any kind of like feeling of uh impediments, it's ultimately hollow. It feels like there's no actual thought being put into my actions as much as there is just actions being taken for the sake of an action being taken to hit my little dopamine in my head and then I walk away feeling like, "Oh, I did something with my little [ ] Sahara Desert and I put [ ] bamboo leaves in here and now I feel good because I have this environment." There's it's it's just literally it's numbers in a spreadsheet that you're just playing with until you get an output that makes you feel good. And to me, that's not really an enjoyable experience.
  • >> Phil Uckland is a [ ] idiot for some of his uh political beliefs and you know his anti- u uh uh uh climate change uh positions that man-made climate change isn't uh real I believe and also his essay on uh British imperialism that was in the first PAX uh premiere if I remember correctly. Uh those are [ ] idiotic things to say uh and I disagree with them vehemently. Um, but he's a [ ] genius when it comes to game design. Like he might be like one of the greatest minds of game design of our time.
  • I I think the the thing is like I care more about people thinking about like the process of religion being created. That's what I care about. I don't care about what the end result is necessarily. Like I don't care about like the the the morality of religious doctrine. I care about how it's been implemented and created and used as a tool. You know, that's what I care about.
  • It is. It's the Wikipedia of board games
  • You can't be afraid to like say something that's going to make people mad.
  • It's not going to be a game that you're going to be able to play with your grandpa and your like, you know, your whole family around the table after a nice Christmas dinner.
  • I I don't want to collect any more Funko Pops for this board game.
  • I I feel like those ones are like kind of like they're indicators of quality again, you know, like I'm like when I see an AI thumbnail, I'm like I I get like a little icky, you know?
  • I I think thumbnails are like an art of itself and I'm trying to perfect it.

  • The five out of fives I've played in 2026 so far.
  • there's been a good year for board games, although it does come with like this weird pressure.
  • I feel like I'm being too cavalier if there's a whole bunch of them.
  • I do kind of consider five out of fives different categories.
  • Recall gives me a lot of the feeling that Revive does, but with more variance to the gameplay and the power combinations and the ways you're trying to build and expand across the board.
  • It is such a clever experience as far as how it all comes together.
  • Six Susurrus surprised me.
  • it is so simple and easy to play.
  • Every decision you make is so fraught with what is the right economy here.
  • It is such a good clever system that rewards every single choice with such a huge degree of thinkingness behind it.
  • I want to play a nice heavy thinky experience, but I don't actually want a nice heavy thinky long game.
  • If a game deserves a five out of five, it's going to get it.
