5 Hotly Anticipated Board Games! The Hype Factor June 2026
Transcript
Hello and welcome to Board Stupid. My name's Wayne and I'm Matt and it's time for another episode of the HYPE FACTOR.
LET'S GO. Let's go.
Let's go. Let's go. If you want to join us on a journey through hype for the newest board games coming this year, then do us a favor.
Yeah. Hit the subscribe button. Hit the bell.
Yeah. Do all those things. And then uh we're going to speak about a few games that we're really hyped about. Some of them are coming retail. Some of them are going to be Kickstarter game found. whatever it is. But uh again, this is just the stuff that we are hyped for. New games coming this year. Let's go.
Let's do it. Matt, one of our recent favorite cooperative games is a game called Eternal Decks. This was a Japanese game. It is an absolutely tremendous game with beautiful artwork, amazing gameplay, and we've absolutely fallen in love with this game. And what's really really exciting is the designer of this game has a new release coming. So of course that hit the high button.
We we need to talk about it. Yeah.
Uh and we're talking about Eternal 7. So we keeping the Eternals, but we swapping the decks for sevens.
Okay.
So uh what what big difference on on between the two games? This is not going to be comparative. This is uh cutth roy everyone from from the self. And uh the cool things about this game is um seven uh you might have played it in the past with different names. It's a it's an old card game. Uh very very famous in Japan. It's one of those like games that in Japan apparently everybody knows how to play. And uh what you're trying to do, you're trying to basically lay down your cards on the table uh in four different rows with the four different suits of uh of cards. And um you can only start the the line from certain numbers. So four, fives and six if I remember correctly. And then each player can put cards on the left on the right of those um of those rows. You're trying to get to to get rid of the cards. Um this is the original game and you will be able to play the original game using using the um the system. However, what it does because it's the same things said with eternal decks, it just adds layers to it. And so you will have the return of the eternals like in eternal decks and you need to try to uh to get boons or bonuses and maluses from the from the eternals while keep trying to play the the kind of of the same game. The the artwork and everything from what we saw is very similar to eternal decks like that beautiful um
line drawing.
Line drawing. Yeah. is uh so like so Japanese like I don't know why I just like very Japanese in all that cleanness. Um it's uh yeah this we we are really excited again because it's coming piggy backing from the from eternal tax. This is his second work.
Yes,
it's going to be super super exciting. We're looking out for Eternal Sevens. Next one is a game uh that is is at his third iteration at the at this moment is one of our favorite one versus one game uh that now is going to introduce a solo mode.
Yes, a solo mode. Everybody's really hyped about solo modes and right now yet uh but is compile compile main three.
Compile main three. Compile, as Matt said, is one of our favorite Julian games. And the interesting thing about this is, of course, not only the fact that you're going to have a bunch of new protocols to play with, and that combined with compile main two and compile main one,
the amount of replayability of compile system at this point is going to be off the chain. I mean, impossible to get bored at that point, impossible to play the same game twice. But even more interestingly than that, just the ability to then play solo versus an AI, which I' is about as, you know, thematic as the game wants to give you, right?
Yeah. Because you're going to play against a bot. So basically during during your your turn, there's going to be you you're selecting your three protocols like you're playing against another person. Uh but then there's going to be this bot that is literally they're using basic uh oppositional terminal. that makes it very AI and um you going to then this AI in the game is going to do other things. It's basically trying to compiles on on their own rows. Uh and you need to try to do three of yours before the AI does two of them. So it's like on top of that there is going to be a sort of solo campaign because you got 12 yeah 12 different scenarios one more difficult of the to the other. So you will always need to think about all right to to to beat this scenario which protocol they work best against the AI. Sounds super cool. Uh again more more uh compile
more compile. Honestly I don't know how much more they could do at this point but literally a third box of compile is so much additional variety. Each one adds so much in this.
Is it too much?
I don't know. We'll find out.
Is it too much? Is it are they are they squeezing you?
Maybe they're squeezing too hard. But the I think the addition of the solo mode makes this a more viable purchase.
Yes. And it it makes the game live longer, I think. So, we really excited. Compile main three. One of the most beautiful things about this island that we call the Great Britain.
Great Britain. Great British Isles. Yeah.
Is the countryside.
It's very pretty. Got some lovely rolling hills.
Yeah.
You have the Penines. You have Yorkshire Dales. Yeah, the Sussex Downs, the gorgeous places.
All All of those things where all the cute animal leaves like the porcupines and the hedgehogs is a porcupine hedgehog.
Hedgehog hedgehogs, rats and all that things. And um there is a new game. It's going to come out um kickstart crowdfunding uh very soon. Uh we had um we were lucky enough that we found it at UKG. So we we wanted to talk to you a little bit more about it and it's Mevil
Meadowail.
Meadowail.
So it's okay. But we saw Meadow Veil at UK Games Pro and everywhere we were walking people were mentioning you need to go and try Meadow Veil. You need to go check out Meadow Vil. And we kept hearing a little bit of buzz about this game.
And as soon as we had 5 minutes we went and find it out on the Sunday morning.
Absolutely. So what is Meadowail? Mavau as Matt says is kind of based on the English countryside but espec specifically it's based around the ecology of the countryside. So you know the uh specific landscapes and type of land but also the animals and how they interact. So you know foxes are going to chase rabbits. Rabbits want to to get away from the foxes. Hedgehogs wants to get shelter. Then you have owls that obviously want to sweep over the landscape etc. The players are going to be contributing to this shared landscape, this shared ecology, and the animals are going to be moving around in that according to their behaviors.
Yes.
Alongside this, you've also got things like contract fulfillment and your own things that you need to manage as well. A little bit of hand management, that sort of stuff. Some bonuses that you get at the end of the game, too.
All on top of a very beautiful art design.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Absolutely stunning, man.
Gorgeous. Yeah, it's uh it's very cool. Again, the Yeah. All the countryside is very well represented in in the artwork. It's absolutely beautiful. But the the game itself as as a if you look at it first time, you like is it Cascadia?
It looks how's that feeling, right?
Yeah. You got you got the external um um tiles that you you're going to build this this live environment, but you're not building your own. You you are contributing to a landology.
Exactly. And on top of that and very different from something like cascade is that that board is alive. The animals will move and depending on on their their behavior, the foxes will try to catch the rabbits and the rabbits need to to not get away. Um so there is this like living environment where that you contribute to. So every time you play again it's going to be different because you're building a different a different landscape. Um this looks absolutely beautiful. This is I know it's one of those games that
we like me, you and our partners, we will very much enjoy it.
We will very very enjoy it.
Uh put it in in this beautiful beautiful package of the designer and artist Christopher Long who again I think him and his family is his son worked on it as well.
Yeah.
Or is working on it and it's just a stunning looking thing for for a a a indie small production. We're extremely excited about this and we can't wait to play
absolutely
Meadowail.
Not Meadow.
Not Meadowail.
Meadow Meadow.
Stefan Feld, acclaimed designer of such phenomenal games as Castles of Burgundy and of course Castles of Tuskanyany and Civolution and numerous other games. I think by Tran as well has yet to create a game that I like.
Oh, come on.
Shut up.
Shut up lady. Oh yeah. That's a great game that I enjoy, but
he he might have done it with his new one coming out this year
called Medical. Now, this sounds very interesting for a numerous reasons, man. Um, I like that it has pick up and deliver and the theme sounds cool. I'm going to take a look. You know that it's going to be brown
and it will be brown. Well, Stephan Feld and Peg Spieler, as much as I love Peg Spiel, it will be a brown game
for whatever you can say whatever. I think Seven Felt has done so amazing games, some of the best games ever. So, I'm really really interested about this. So, medical, what medical is? Medical is a doctor is a is an Italian name for a doctor. This is in the med evil um
medieval European Europeish. So, and basically what you going to try to do, you are this medic that goes around and travel the land and trying to pick up stuff to create med medicine and stuff. Bring the medicine, whatever you need to do. And while you're doing these kind of things, you can bring around letters from the from the church because of course church was the Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um and you you're fulfilling contracts. Uh no not many information about the game itself but we this is the gest of the game. So pick up and deliver contract fulfillment and blah blah blah like resource management etc.
Seven failed. Yeah that we we know his style of games. So I'm I'm sure there's going to be some some dice allocation.
As much as Yeah. As much as I started with the joke about the failed games that's just to my taste. But genuinely this one sounds very interesting. I'm actually quite excited about this. you got these things where each player uh will secretly uh decide the location where they need to go before this the the the the round starts. Uh so there's going to be some interaction between the player when when two people decide to go to the to the same place to to fulfill this maybe the same contract and then it's what you don't want to do. Um there's going to be depending on the number of players either eight or nine rounds of the game. So the game is supposedly to be like short and snappy and quite um and quite like in uh White Castle.
Yeah.
Every every action you do is very important because you having eight action in the entire game.
Extremely you've got to be extremely economical with what you do. Yeah. Yeah. Which I like that.
So um again really interesting. I think really brown but I think this one is going to be
could be a banger. 60 to 90 minutes failed game. Yeah, Medico.
Matt has been on a little bit of a steamroll recently. A little bit on a on a train of solo games where he's really be getting involved in them. And actually, I kind of agree with him. There's been some really cool stuff coming recently that we've we've played and really enjoyed. And there is one coming specifically that you and me,
you as well
are very excited about as it relates to solo games. What is it, man?
We're talking about rolling deep.
Rolling in the deep.
What was that?
You can't do it because it's copyrighted YouTube. Adele is very don't don't do it. Uh but um what is Rolling Deep? The Rolling Ding is is a um a solo uh dice chucking game.
Rogue Light Rogue Light by the guys at Bite Wings. Bite Wings has been doing a lot of very nice
awesome stuff. We love Bitewing. They do incredible work. They started becoming they started becoming an actual Yeah.
One of our favorite always look.
So this game is going to go Kickstarter. Um and uh basically what you going to do, you're going to you need to pass um a certain number of um challenges throughout your um your adventure. And you're going to have your map where you need to sign up like literally doing your little dungeon crawling like going down the into the dungeon. Uh, it's got this very cool things about the dice themselves because when you um getting boots or stuff or or whatever bonuses you can get, you basically are going to change the faces of the of the dice. Uh, so you got these things where you build your own dice and again if you die well, you start again and and off we go. Um, but yeah, I'm I'm finding that solo games in the last year and a half, 18 months, I would say. all the stuff that they came um very recently, they started getting better and better and makes me really want to play to play the games like they're not anymore
uh a a a solo mode of of another game. No, no, no. This these games are started being studied specifically for a for a one player. The production is getting way better. The actual theme are getting way better. And talking about team, this one's going to have the uh the artworks from the teams that um from Cuphead.
Yes.
And if you've seen that, I'm sure that flash. I love it.
It looks Yeah, it's absolutely stunning artwork. It's absolutely brilliant. So, so much character. If you've ever played something like Dice Forge, I love the idea of being able to create your own dice, which is really, really fun. Um yeah, I am I am dead keen. I'm quite interested to see how they manage the rog like adventuring in this as well and exactly how well that gets implemented. I'm super excited for it man. Again, it's it's going about Kickstarter. So, I did watch a play through of the game. It sounds a very interesting dice. You got some resources you get and and you keep rolling dice and trying to to do your things. you're gonna have decision to take during the game like which boon you want to get, which one you want to the minuses or like all that stuff really the resources like yeah how are you getting back your life points and it's it's sounds really really cool.
Even more exciting I think is the fact that this is the first title that Bitewing are going to be doing in what they're calling their I think Table for one series. Yeah. So there's going to be and this is and they're all going to feature this similar kind of vintage style artwork. Yeah, I love it.
And having a series of these games all for solo, that's super exciting as a as a project. So, yeah, we'll keep a very close eyes on Rolling Deep.
Wayne, you know, I'm not a trackie. I'm I'm a very much of like a a Star Wars person. I did watch Star Trek in some way of the other. I think a few of them that were pretty cool like this space 9 some of them that were good, but I never been a massive Star Trek fan. Okay. However, there is a game that I'm a massive fan of and these two things are going to come together and the game is Captain Sona.
The game that we really enjoy playing.
We love playing Captain
but we don't play because you need eight people just like come on like
you literally need eight people
and and it's kind of like a board game. It's not a party game. You kind of like need to uh it's difficult to put into the onto the table. However, with Star Trek Space Hunt, you're taking everything Captain Sona and you're making a two to four player game.
Perfect. So, unlike Matt, I do like me a bit of Star Trek, although specifically TNG. That was my childhood growing up. Star Trek Next Generation, Captain Bicard.
Oh, yeah. Yes. Yeah. I think I did watch a lot of them as well, but never been my Yeah.
Yeah. Bicard had a great haircut like me. So, also
that's why you liked it.
It was great. So, but also Matt, the whole great thing about Captain Sonar is the fact that it is a real time team versus team game. Yeah. And it's basically real time battleships. You're trying to hunt the other person down. Everyone's got a different role. You're trying to listen to the other team. It's chaotic. It's an arctic. It's hilarious fun.
But, as you say, a nightmare to get to the table. This solves that by making it a two to four player game. And I love the idea of that. I mean, the theme, I think, is really cool. It's it's it's definitely something if people are interested in theme, they're going to already be interested in it. But even the theme aside, Captain Sonaut is awesome. And this is literally a re-implementation of that game. It's not like someone's just ripped off and done it. No, it is a reimplementation of the same game for four players where you're doing this hidden movement trying to find the other team trying to shoot them out of the sky.
Just super super fun.
Yeah. And the cool things that in the game itself, so one of the um main differences from the original things is now you're going to have like um different factions. Uh so you're going to be able to play as Captain Kirk on the side against the Cllingon on the other side and then you can swap the things you can Exactly. You you have different races in the in the Star Trek universe. And now I see more coming along the along the way if the game picks up um picks up. Well, um, we haven't played it yet, but we're going to try to get a copy of this as soon as it come. There were a few copies at UK GE. Uh, so we might try to get our hands on this.
And I like the idea. It also plays two players, so that could be interesting, too.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Star Trek, Space,
uh, Prosper and
Live Long and Prosper.
What was it? I wasn't.
Oh, yeah. Weird. Weird. Weird. So, quick one to end this video. We have to end, we don't have to end. It's not contractually obliged, but we're going to end with an expansion. And this is an expansion to one of your new favorite card games, I think, which is of course Marvel Champions, the card game.
Yeah. So, uh the they're going to do something very similar what is happening with the with the new Arkham Horror. So, this is going to be the Fear No Evil expansion. Um, and he's going to be themed around Dead.
Nice.
With Yeah, you know that the the the shows on Disney Plus just finished. It was a a big success. So, it's is actually makes sense to to keep it up. Uh, but the cool things about it is that you can buy this and actually start playing the game. So, it's going to be a a new the newer platform where to start then building your collection uh of Marvel Champions. And again, having such a loved character, you're going to have uh Dav, there's going to be Kingpin inside and Bullseye and um um and another character and Electra. Uh and you can have a taste of what of why Marvel Champion is such a loved game uh that is is great is a great solo. It's a great two players, a three players. I I really really enjoy it and I can't wait to play as Dar Devil because it's a Darvilevil after Spider-Man is definitely my favorite.
Dare Devil is a great character. One of my favorites growing up as well.
Yeah, great comic book character for sure.
Uh but yeah, so it's adding more to the original if you already have all the old lot or if you never play it. Uh this is going to be your new starting point from uh from the future. So it's uh it's starting a new era of um of Marvel Champions.
Kind of a little little soft reset kind of.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's um it's it's good.
There's a lot of stuff as well. Yeah. Marvel Champions, the card game, Fear No Evil.
