Hey y'all, it's time for Rolling Dice and Taking Names. In this episode, the guys will review Abroad, All Mine, and Bunny Kingdom Town. Plus, there are five other games featured in Quick Hits. Hello and welcome to Rolling Dice and Techie Names. This is episode 385 9 to5. My name is Marty. I'm Tony. I tied Jolene. You said or 9 to5. Why'd you pick?

Because I think 9 to5 has been the bigger song since Dolly Parton passed away. A lot of people were doing a stuff around that song. The Empire State Building lit up at 9:25 the night she passed away. There is a movement to make naked 925 September 25th a Dolly Parton day. So it's just a lot of things are linked. I saw I saw people like Snoop Dog at one of his concerts play 9 to5. I saw another artist Pitbull do 9 to5 and that just seems to be the song that a lot of people know Dolly by. But obviously Jolene was a big one too.

So okay that's fine. I was just kind of curious why 9 to5 cuz to me it was I always associated that one with the um movie and I never saw the movie so you know

I mean for sure but that was a huge hit song when it came out again since her passing that's a what a lot of people

are singing playing etc too and I tell you this was this was such an interesting passing because I think it was a surprise and man she was beloved by everyone

oh yeah

like It doesn't matter where you came from, what you believe, everybody loved Dolly, which is really unusual to see.

And just just the continuing outpouring and from, you know, all over the world. So, yeah, but a lot of people unfortunately passed away this past week or a week before. So, man, Tim Curry, man,

Tim Curry, man, and that's one of those that you a guy that you kind of forget about and then, you know, something like this happens like, holy crap. And then you think about all the stuff. Wow. Watched him in Clue and Rocky Horror and Treasure Island with the Muppets, etc. I saw a great interview with him that uh when he passed away, a lot of people were posting stuff. And that's a guy that had had a private life that nobody knew anything about, like nobody knew about any of his relationships or anything. And he was interviewed and the guy said, he said, "So, I'm going to ask you," and this was way later in his life. He said, "Uh, what's the one love that got away?" And Tim Curry, man, with just this most serious face, looked at him and said, "Miss Piggy."

I thought that was hilarious.

All right. Well, we need to Let's lighten the mood.

It was But it was It was three It was three in Three Days. Who was the third person?

I'm googling.

Oh. Oh. Uh, uh, Mckllen. Um, the guy who voiced Optimus Prime for Transformers. Colin,

is that it? Is that what he was known for? That was his big thing.

Yeah. And for a lot of Gen Xers who grew up in the 80s, that was a pretty major deal. I mean, he's always

Oh, I thought that he was only for the movie. I thought it was only for the movies.

Nope.

See, I wasn't a Transformers kind of guy. I know that's Well, I didn't I didn't, you know, Robots in disguise. I mean, that's as far as she goes right there. I didn't watch that cartoon. So, [sighs]

9 to5 is just a movie. Transformers is just a show I didn't watch. My gosh,

I can't help it. I didn't I watched other things Starblazers and things like that but I didn't

Starblazers it's always that's the only thing you watch was Starblazers

that's the only thing I watched in the 70s in the 80s I didn't watch GI Joe I didn't watch Transformers I didn't watch He-Man

then I must have been sitting in the in the in the room or at the house in the afternoon watching He-Man because I know I watched He-Man I wasn't like a huge fan but it was on and I watched it

I don't know maybe you watched it in the dorm when you were trying to figure out what you want to do with your life. I don't know why. I think I grew up mostly watching the cartoons getting home from elementary school. Uh, you know, the 1960s Amazing Spider-Man. Wow. You know, it wasn't live then, but I just remember those were the cartoons that we watched. Ultra Man, um, which wasn't it was not a cartoon. It was that live action stuff. I never watched Johnny Sako. It was Robot. Did you watch that one?

I don't I don't remember that one.

Okay. Yeah. Um, so all this stuff in from the 70s, I just I did watch Wild Wild West. So anyway, so you posted a poll up on uh over on BGG as as this horse has been beaten to death. You uh asked a question, how do you view board games now versus what you did 5 years ago? So first, what what made you even post this in BGG? And then I also copied it and posted on our Discord channel. Well, one, I'm able now to access BG at work. So, [clears throat] during lunch, bored. Okay. I was bored and I was like, "Oh, look. I can go over here." I mean, I'll be the first to tell you BG is nothing more to me than getting rules. Um, I haven't I don't use it very often anymore other than to go. Now, I did use it the other night and this will be something we add to the show, but um I was just Yeah, that's what I do. So, I went over there. I was like, I was curious about the guild, right? Our our guild cuz a lot of people don't post stuff over in that forum type anymore, right? They all go to Discord, which is basically the same freaking thing. So, I was like, "Okay, well, I wonder how what the poll mechanism looks like. How have they changed that? I haven't done one of those in forever." Hey, look, I can do that. Oh, cool. All right. Well, what's a good poll question? Hm. Well, how am I feeling today about board games? Well, I'm feeling this. Okay, let's just post it out there and see if anybody actually knows that this thing is still on.

That's what prompted me to do that. Just out of curiosity, see if anybody ever goes over there and if it's still used. I was curious.

Well, that was a lot less exciting than what I was expecting. All right. So, anyway,

what do you think? What did you think?

I don't I thought you had an epiphany. Are you in deep thought? Are you pontificating just man on games? It's just I I view games differently now. I wonder what other people think as opposed to, huh, I just want to see what the poll looks like. What's a question I can ask?

Well, that was the question. That was the epiphany is like, how do I feel about because I know my tastes have greatly changed and how I view the games, you know, after all these years. So, I was just kind of curious.

All right. Well, I'll find out your answer. I'll give my answer in a second. But what I did was I combined all the answers between the two sites, BGG and Discord.

And so, here's where here were your options. You said I enjoyed board gaming enjoyed board gaming significantly more than 5 years ago. Next one was my enjoyment has grown somewhat. Next, it's remained stable. Next is still enjoy it but not as much. Next is I continue to enjoy board gaming but not nearly as much as I used to. And then combining all those probably made sense, right? So about 62% were right in the middle. my enjoyment has remained the exact same now as what it used to. And then it was a nice little bell curve because on either side uh 19% said the enjoyment had grown somewhat, 14% was I still enjoy it but not as much. And then 2.4% were the extremes. I enjoy it way more, I enjoy it way less. It's a perfect curve. It was a good question and it's and it's interesting with all these changes and stuff generally people Yep.

I enjoy it as much as I as I used to. So, personally, what did you say?

Well, on BG, my answer was I still enjoy enjoy board game, but not as much as I used to.

That was my answer.

Okay.

Is there a reason for it?

I think a lot of it comes down to just, you know, I think a lot of it is from the standpoint that we get to see the repeat and mechanisms and everything.

I I'm I'm getting, you know, oh look, it's a car drafting. Oh, it's um you know uh we're going to be tanking resources and we're going to exercise them and they're going to suddenly become victory points. I'm not saying that you know there's not some new ideas cuz some of the games we're going to talk about today, they've got some very unique characteristics to them that make them worth exploring,

but you know, we've been doing this for a while that it was like, okay, nothing's wowing me, making it, you know, just suddenly jump out at me like it used to. Like I remember the euphoria we got when we discovered and began to play Netrunner Star Wars Unlimited. Great game. I love playing it. Wish played it better, but it did not give me the same euphoria that I got with Netrunner as you and I dwelled into that. Okay.

Interesting. Okay. Um, when it comes to board games, some of the board games we've come out with, uh, we've talked about recently, did they have the same feeling I did when, um, we were playing, well, I'll admit River of Gold. Think about that one. That was an amazing game for me. Lorenzo, great game. Um, and you know, some of the games I look on the shelf, but I don't have, as I empty my shelves for the Mega Moose Con action auction. Okay, I don't have the attachment to this, but I do keep one similar to it like Gravo. gravel will never come off of. I remember playing that and having such a great time and teaching that game. So that's why I came up with my answer. Your turn

to have nothing to add because it was exact same reason. Euphoria. That's a good way to put it. I mean, I remember all so many times you get a game out and you put it on the table and it was something new. It was a cool experience and it was like you just like exploring it and playing it and stuff. And I guess it's because I've been playing or we've both been playing for so long. It's more hard to get wild by a new game on the table than what it used to because we have a bigger breadth of games that we have historical context with to where it's like you can say, "Well, this is a brand new game, but it's kind of like that."

Mhm. [clears throat]

When you first get into the hobby, you've never played anything like that. So, everything's fresh and new.

Yeah.

So, I I said the exact same thing. It's a little bit less and for the exact same reasons.

Yeah. It's not that we don't enjoy them. Oh, any game you put on there and well, some may be stinkers, but we still enjoy playing games, but I would be just as happy to put an older game on the table as I would a new game and be able to experience that feeling of, hey, I cracked this nut. I solved the problem to be able to do a win. I think the closest thing that's gotten that euphoria and that challenge has been Container and But it's an old game, but it's a re-release, right?

Isn't that wild that some of the games that have wild me recently, for example, El Grande, I remember that from a few years ago. Um,

Container, another good example. It's like, man, these games are really good. And you realize, holy crap, it's just because I haven't played these games that are 20 years old.

Mhm. [clears throat]

It's not true. But it does make you think, have all the best things just already been done and everything is just a copycat of other things just merging different things together, you know?

Yeah. I mean, some things just it does come down. How did they change that mechanism? How did they handle like mythologies that we talked about in the last show where we were talking about, oh, that's just a card drafting game, but it was going to the various zones of drafting that added that next element to it. or um oh the roar game from inside the lane battler and and the drafting and the building of the cards and how that resolved itself. Those were very good games that we enjoyed playing. They added that wrinkle but it is it at the level that when the first time I played seven wonders. Now I will say seven wonders not that anybody cares. That's kind of dated now. Will I pull that out instead of some other drafting game that I have? And I guess most people are are like, "No, no, it's it's it's pretty much exactly the same." So, it's a good question. It was a good question. We need to whenever you're bored on uh during lunch, you know, go out there and post some others or post them on the Discord, you know, crossost between the two. We got answers in both spots. So,

we'll see it on I don't have Discord loaded anywhere except I'm on the home computer. So, I'll have to wait.

It's not on your phone.

No. This is why he never he never gets on y'all because he's just

No, I don't because I I don't have Discord on my phone. I don't I I have it on the computer at the house. Load it up when I get home at night to go through emails and stuff like that. See what y'all are talking about on Discord. See if I need to chime me in. That's where I am. You know, my me and my um my social media experience. I love it so much. $18 billion. That's what that's one day for Meta.

18. Did you not see that settlement?

No.

Meta [clears throat] got metal Meta settled for $18 billion due to their addictiveness for teenagers and the harm that they cause teenagers and they, you know, they're like$18 billion. Okay, sure. Hold on. You want that in cash?

Yeah, you know,

we'll settle for that. Yeah,

you know, we'll settle for that. Oh, and by the way, we'll set these restrictions and and guess what those restrictions are? All based on age. And all you got to do is click certain buttons to set what your age is to bypass those restrictions. There you go. I mean, it's just funny. $18 billion. I was just like, good gosh, that's that's a lot of money, dude. All right.

You know what? No, I got something for you.

Oh crap.

No, this is game related. Not a quick hitter.

You don't get to play the sound. That one. Thank you. That one. Thank you. Um, so I've been uh friends came over. We were talking about our trip that's coming up at the end of September and October. And they said I said, "Okay, it's kind of late. Do you'all want to play a game?" They said, "Sure." And so they've been the ones running through the trick taking the the Fellowship of the Ring tricktaking game that you and I have played. And we've also played the two towers.

Now I'm going to have to bring the chapter we're on to see if our gaming group can manage. It's chapter 12. Did you ever make it to chapter 12 in that game?

I would need to pull out the box. I can't I How many chapters in is it? 18.

18. And chapter 12 is the last chapter before you go to part two.

I can't remember.

Well, there's only four characters and it's the one where this shadowfax has to take two tricks and then in those tricks there has to be hills cards. Okay. Okay. For those of you who never played this, the suits are hills, mountains, shadow, um, forest, and five ring cards. Okay. So, you So, Shadowfax has to take hills cards. Then you have Gandalf. He has, and this is a spoiler. Should I spoil it about what your challenge is in the game?

Go ahead. I mean, the game is two years old, so

So, here's the trick to it. Gandalf, you know, Gandalf must take one must take one or more tricks. However, his tricks, you must have one of each number across his trick. So, one through eight. Gez.

And then the other two characters, um, the eagle, and I forget, I can't say the eagle's name. Gala, whatever. He can take mountain. He must take two tricks with mountain cards. Ratagas has to take forest cards. I think it's Ratagas. He has to take two tricks. And in those tricks, he must have forest cards. All right. So, two tricks by the eagle, two tricks by Ratagas, two tricks by Shadowfax, and then you have um Gandalf and his requirements. So, those are the restrictions on that. So, if you remember, when you're dealing out the cards, that's only one spare trick to allow to go through.

[clears throat]

We must have played 12 hands of this and never. We got very close. So, I'm going to have to bring it to game night and give y'all a shot at it to see if you can figure out how to break to crack this one. Because it was it was

it it was it was good enough to where you're like, "Okay, I want to go again. We can do this." And that taking it back to the survey brings back to the the euphoria we will feel if we do it

right. Right.

You know, sorry. Thought I'd share that. I thought it would be somewhat entertaining.

My bad.

Can I do it now? Can I do it?

Go ahead, Jolene.

All right. All right, we got a bunch of quick hits that By the way, by the way, a lot of people have commented on that sound effect liking it. So, you are way in the minority.

I'll put a poll out there.

Put a poll. All right, so quick hits is where we just talk about some games that we quickly got to the table, only played once. It was just kind of a runthroughs real quick. Uh Tony, you taught us a game uh Sand Castles from Panosaurus Games, which is honestly we talked about games not doing anything new.

This is kind of one of those, right? This is this is about as straight of a draft and place a tile drafting tile placement game that you can get.

Yes. is scoring points based on how well you build your sand castle based on maybe number of birds, number of windows, number of pales, number of starfish groups that you have on your sand castle. Um the only unique thing about this is in the drafting the the person will first flip you'll draft the number of tiles equal to the number of players. You'll flip over that tile and if you want it then take it. If you don't you pass it to the person to your left. If they want it they take it. If not they pass it to the next person. And the last person, of course, if no one else is taking it, gets it. And you continue that. That is the change in in the drafting. Get your sand castle, try to get it straight. One of the other things that was I liked was some of the sand castle pieces had a sky element to it, which had the birds. You were not so much restricted on that placement. They all went to the top row and fell at the end of the drafting of the tiles. So, that was kind of nice. You could play it out. It was in a 5x5 grid. But overall it was just collect windows or starfish or um sand pales or whatever.

Okay.

The drafting part I liked.

Okay.

Is it a gamer's game? Probably not. But but this is another one of those that if you just want to introduce family, friends to something very simple, it's sometimes the the scoring uh of these games can be really difficult. This is super straightforward. This is one of the easier ones to teach where if somebody's never done it before, you can quickly tell them, "Yeah, you count up the number of windows. Look at this chart." You know, that that sort of thing. Very straightforward. So, sand castle, small box game, Pandasaurus games, a very simple tile drafting, tile placement that would be good for people who never played them before. And as gamers, the drafting part is as far as, you know, I'm not going to keep this tile. I'm going to pass it on as uh is kind of cool. You'll find this game down at somebody's beach house.

It's actually a good beach game 100%.

Now, I got to play a game uh that you didn't get to. This is from All Play Games called Grunts. And the reason why I was interested in this game is because it looks like Advance Wars.

It's a cute cute little figures where this is an abstract game where you're placing pieces on a board. You're trying to take over each other's pieces. It's kind of a rock paper scissors sort of setup uh where you have army men and but what's cool is what I liked about this is is you have these vehicles. One is like a tank, one is a truck and you have these magnetized attachments you could put on them like an anti-aircraft or cannon or way to carry troops. But the truck can move a lot further when it moves than what the tank can, but the tank's harder to destroy. And there's a chart showing what beats what. So like only bombers and cannons can beat tanks and only the army guys, the regular grunts can beat these things and leaders can't beat anything. So it's a very simple analysis chart of who can beat what. And it's just a grid and you have two options on your turn. You can move twice, deploy once, move once, deploy twice. That's your two options. So, I can take a guy, I can move it, and then I can deploy new guys on the back line.

One cool thing about the uh the truck attachment is is you can attach uh you can deploy next to your truck sort of deal. So, Tony, this is a game that I really really enjoyed. It's one of the, you know, the allplay small box games, so it's fits easily on the shelf. My biggest complaint about the game is the board is a cloth map.

It's a cloth board. The bad thing about it is after you fold it up, you've got the wrinkles

and you want to be able to stand up your little grunt guys, but they fall over. I wish it would have been a cardboard play surface than than cloth. But that's really my only nitpick about it. So, it is a fun two-player abstract game.

Yeah. Well, all right. Bring it sometime. Maybe we'll get to play it. Cuz I when I was reading about it, because it was in the show notes, I was like, "Oh, magnet. That's interesting." And again, it was kind of it remind me of Advance Wars because you remember in Advance Wars, different units could beat certain things. It was the exact same way.

Rock, paper, scissors almost kind of thing.

Kind kind of like that. Kind of like that. Now, a game we did get to play together was a computer junkyard. Now, this was like a nostalgia, thematic nostalgia for us guys in the 90s and 2000s who built your own computers

and who have forgotten how to do that. Cuz that was clear when I was naming off the pieces to this game of Okay, what is this? I don't I don't remember. Is that No, you need this. You You and Bert sitting there correcting me on every piece of hardware. Just tell me the colors so I can figure this thing out. All right. Now, so computer junkyard, the whole job that you have is to build a computer that can run a specific software that you are beginning at the game. It's going to tell you about select number of pieces that you need to have. Maybe two RAMs, maybe three CPUs, and um CD ROM. Yes, a CD ROM, y'all. You You'll need a CD ROM to load your software. Okay. You can't

Well, you got to because that's the goal of the game.

Yeah, you got to.

So, you're trying to build a computer to play a game. Your end goal is to have that piece of software and the right configuration of your computer in order to get it up and running. That sounds easy. But now, keep in mind when you're putting all these pieces together, you got some proprietary Dell software. I mean, Dell hardware going on here for those of you who remember that crap. God, Dell was the worst. But anyway, the proprietary is colors. When you connect these pieces together on your motherboard, they have, you know, there's greens and purples, and a green doesn't slide into a purple, even though it does, but you're not supposed to do that. So, you have to watch the colors of the various pieces because some of the components may have a purple notch where that same component may have a pink notch. So, you just got to pay attention to that as these pieces are coming out.

And when you How do you get pieces? what you go to at the computer junkyard. Out in the middle of the table is all these pieces, these uh that Tony mentioned, and you're going to pay money in order to take those over to your work space in order to try to assemble it. There is a cost based on the number of that item that's in the space. So, example, if RAM is out there, the more RAM there is, the cheaper that it is and vice versa. Now, what happens if, well, I'm short on money. Well, what you do is you take pieces that you aren't going to use and sell them back. And if there's nothing out there in the in the market, you'll get a lot more money than if there's already multiple of the same piece out there. Tony, that's not the only way. You could try to steal from somebody else's computer. You could try to reach over to somebody else's rig and just pop, I need that CPU. Thank you very much. Mhm. or what'sever on their workbench and by rolling dice and taking some computer parts and and and if you get stolen from oh don't think you know that you're going to be an easy target.

You get to lock your computer up. You figure out that hey there's a I need to protect it to make it harder for people to steal from you. also in the bag because you know there is the natas virus going around one of the very first computer bugs also known as Satan. Did you ever get infected by that?

Nope.

I remember the first time we got hit with that in our gateway 2000. I was like what is this crap? So guess what? You have to do some debugging by rolling some dice and if successful you may remove the bug because you can't win if your computer's bugged. Who would buy that?

Who would run this software?

So there is some take that in this cuz as you draw these components out of the bag they go to the market but if you pull that a bug piece you immediately must attach it to somebody else's computer. So people are trying to steal pieces from you. Then you have to debug your CPU up and running. But eventually the goal is to you have requirements that your software dictates. You say, "I've got it." And if you're the first person to do that, you win the game. So Tony, there's a lot of clever things in here. I love the thing about this. The only thing we ran into is it just as the game went on, it was so hard to make any money because the junkyard was full of pieces. Meaning, yeah, sure, they're cheap, but if you didn't have any money, you couldn't make any money to buy anything. And then people would just like tic-tac steal from other people and it was just one that I felt like just stayed on the table too long for us.

Kind of like this discussion. Yeah. It was on the it was on the table way too long. Thinking back to it, was there a better way to streamline? Well, it all depended on what pieces came out of that bag.

Mhm. And then we were all, you know, there were enough pieces and if you were short a certain piece or you didn't have the rig set up with the right colors, you may not be able to use that piece that you needed to finish it off. So yeah, I I'm with you. It was it was kind of a memory lane thing, but for me, I just needed a lot more. Now, I appreciate the little sand dial in it to turn over to say you only got two minutes to reconfigure your rig.

Oh, that that's a really good point. So that part doesn't drag at all. It's

it's it's not that the turns drag. They totally don't. It just takes a while because the game says it's 60 to 90 minutes long. I wish that box said 30 to 60 minutes,

right? Yeah. So, there was a game a while back that didn't involve so much the pieces of colors, but Factory Funner was a game where you had various pieces in the factory where a blue went into a blue piece and then to a pipe that made um narrow it down. That game it reminded me of Factory Funer, which I wasn't a big fan of either, where I'm out sitting there trying to grab certain pieces and I that it gave me that kind of feel. So, just just one of So, if you ever played Factory Fun, it was one that you really enjoyed, you may want to take a look at this.

Uh, another game I played while you were gone. Enemies of Gotham City. So, this is a themed game based on the Batman animated series. Burnt bought this and one of our game group guys and brought it and taught it to us. Thematically, Tony, I thought this game was really cool. You you're Gotham City. You're actually playing as villains trying to get goons out on the board into different regions of Gotham City. And it's an area control game because at the end of each round, you're going to score points based who has control of certain areas of the city. So over the course of the game, you're trying to move your guy around, get your cubes out on the board, which like goons or henchmen uh to get on the board to try to populate certain areas. Batman, meanwhile, is going across Gotham trying to stop you. And if Batman is placed in an area due to an event card that's drawn at the beginning of each round, that means that area is not going to score. So, you may have invested in North Gotham in order to try to win that. But if Batman ends up there, well, too bad. You're not going to be able to score that round. But the way the game flows, I think, is really cool. It's like you um you you have that event card which shows where Batman's going to go plus some other things can happen to set up that particular round.

There's a prep phase which determines a player order where you'll take one of your tokens and put it on an action board and be able to do things like burn a building. Uh you had these really nice 3D model buildings. The production of this is super top-notch. It was really nice models and everything like that, but burning buildings might could possibly actually give you points depending on what your your villain does cuz everybody's villain does something um special. But anyway, burn buildings. Uh you can place your goons into Arkham Asylum because when they escape, you get to place them out on the board for free. Uh which is cool. But anyway, so wherever you place that's going to deter determine player order. Then on your turn, move, play cards, use weapons, income. This is interesting. You needed money. The beginning of every round, it'll say, "Here's how you can get income this phase." And it could be wherever you are, you get x amount of coins per purple building in this region because every building had a certain color to it sort of deal. And then at the very end of your turn, you get to get take a new power card because every time you play a power guard, use it once per game. Play it, use it, gone. And everybody starts with the same exact hand of power cards, which does things like get some movement, deploy some goons, move Batman, uh get some scoring.

But anyway, the way the game works is cool. It's area control. The flow of the game is really sweet. To me, there's two big negatives to this. And we just talked about game length. So, the this game is listed at 45 minutes to 180. No. Three players took us two hours. No. One of the things is it didn't feel like two hours, which is good. The worst games are games that feel every bit of 120 minutes. This didn't feel that because in there's so much player interaction. You're constantly engaged with the board. But I do wish it had a little been a little bit shorter. And for such a cool experience, this game is hard to get to the table because of the price point. This game is from Upper Deck. The base game $150.

Did you have a Did you have $150 worth of fun?

Bert said his family really enjoys the show, so he may get $150 fun out of it. Awesome. Me?

Zero chance. If there was a $50 version of this game that didn't have all the nice plastic, I would be prone to get it. Especially if if if we could get to where to bring down the play time.

150. I I wouldn't do it. I enjoyed my time playing. I would play again. I would not own it.

All right. Well, I appreciate you and taking word for the team there, especially on that time limit. You know me in time.

Oh, I know.

In fact, we said that night Tony would have lost his mind.

So, is that how we're ranking games now? Tony's time tolerance?

Kind of. Kind of. It It does make a difference now.

Okay. Maybe that maybe that's the other poll. I'm not going to do them daily. I'll do a poll maybe once a week, once a month. I'll figure that out. Okay, next. What's next? What's next? What's next? What's next? Sixsided C's. I love a good dice roller.

Mhm.

And [sighs] And that's what this is. I mean, we are two I'm going I'm going to put my own flavor text in this game. We are two captains of two pirate ships.

Well, that's that's exactly what it is.

Well, then I'm glad I'm putting the correct one with it. Okay. And we are Marty and I, we are battling over who's going to be the dominant sea captain. Marty is Blackbeard. I'm Redbeard. And we're going out there and we're going on our turn, we're going to roll a little dice and we're going to try to load our guns with those dice. Now, each of our ships, they are the same. If I put dice that are oh, I don't know, a a six in my forward gun and that's the spot that's needed or a four or a five, then on my turn, I can then fire at Marty and he takes damage. Boom.

Boom. Done. Unless he has the ability to evade. And the way he can evade is by having dice in that slot. Marty blew me off the water. He killed me in this game. It was so much fun. It was so much fun.

Yeah. Yeah. Well, you didn't tell the whole push your luck thing. So, each of you has a coin limit. And that's kind of important part of the game. It's a push your luck uh game to where you're going to roll one dice. And it's like, okay, right now my coin limit starts at 12. It starts at 12. All right. Well, good. I'm not going to exceed 12 with one die. I'm going to roll again, add them up. Hm. If you keep rolling and go higher than what your coin limit is, you bust and you take those dice of differing numbers and you put them into your evade slot. So that's how you even get dice in there. But so you always want to match or be less because then what you do say, "Okay, I'm done pushing my luck now. Let me assign the dice to the cannons or to try to get more coins." Or you can actually there's islands on the map. By the way, this is a super nice neoprene mat that you roll out, which is really cool because you the dice roll so well on it. Much better than cardboard. So that was a real smart idea using neoprene map. You could take control of the islands that will give you benefits if you happen to control those islands over the course of the game. Hey, when I hit with this, it's going to do extra damage, etc. Stuff like that. And it's another way to to win. You could knock somebody's health from 12 to zero, knock them out to win the game or control four islands and win the game or max out your coins. So yeah, Tony, what 15, 20 minute game of just push your luck, roll a sign, deal damage. I enjoyed it for and I think it's only like $20.

Yeah. Oh, wow. Really? That was okay. I'm gonna have to add that one to the library. And so you talked about the coins. You need more coins because that allows you to roll more dice to do more hits. So the game, if you're able to get the coins, you're able to escalate your attack. You're able to do more damage. And that that was Now I'll admit I was rolling poorly. Oh my gosh. I couldn't take over an island and the winning conditions, multiple winning conditions. So, you're a constant battle there. If Marty gets all four islands, he's going to win. And he completely forgot that rule cuz he could have ended the game even sooner because I could never get a guy out on the island to knock him off. It was Oh, it it's a frustrating but fun frustration when you when you're rolling that because guess what? You get to go again real quick.

Yeah, I was wrong. It's $24.95. Oh my gosh. Oh, no. No. I can't afford it. Just forget it.

No. Well, 25 bucks. Like, literally, you'll pay $25 for a nice neoprene mat, you know, for like card games and stuff like that. So, you get the mat, you get uh two sets of dice, and if you want uh if you have two copies, three and four players can play. Oh. Oh, that would be so much fun. It's over at soullessgamestudios.com where you can pre-order right now. And that, y'all, was this episode's

miniaturearket.com. It's getting near Halloween. Why do I bring this up?

I don't know.

Because Well, first off, the spice lattes and pumpkin spice. Oh my gosh. I'm surprised market doesn't do that. Don't doesn't put that. But you know what? They do have they have the new coffee rush grab and go. That just

Oh yeah.

Yeah.

Put right out there on the front page. So you can grab your spice latte if you want to with coffee rush grab and go or the new horrified Dungeons and Dragons Ravenloft just showed up. If you didn't get a notification of that, that bad boy is already on back order, out of stock. So turn on those notifications over there. Turn on that bell. Click on that bell. Guess what? We actually have a copy that we're going to play sometime towards October to cover for our Halloween episode.

Ah, surprise, surprise, surprise. I figured you'd already have one of those in there. But real simple. I mean, new arrivals. Go there, click on it, and you'll see everything that they're getting in that's just now come out. Um, new TCGs, new uh Lighheart games. Marty and I talked about one all mine. They've got a copy of it over there for uh I believe it was like $13.99. Love the love that little discount that they throw on that. Or recently Marty and I were doing our Starcraft. The new models are in. And so I was over there digging for some paints, thinking, "Ooh, okay. What the color does the Zergs need to be? They got purple in there. I need to go Oh, alien painter. Oh, I need to get some primer. I'm not going to go do that cheap Walmart p primer like I did with my troll bloods. I'm going to put some money into this." Looking at that was a lot cheaper than Amazon.

Amazon the um Army Painters primer was over $20. I'm like, "What? This stuff ain't gold?" Okay, it could be colored gold, but it's not gold. Also, we want to announce a brand new affiliate link. Over the years, you all have been amazing at using our affiliate link to head over to miniaturemarket.com. At Gen Con, Portal Games, our good buddy Chevy had a new game out there called Abroad. This was designed by Rodrigo Rego and Daniela Valentine. In this game, you are a tourist traveling to Sy. You are trying to visit these places and when you do, you're trying to influence the people to score you some victory point at the end of the round. What you're doing now, how you do it. Look, you're you're going on a vacation for four weeks and each round represents one week and every day you have a token that you can spend to do different actions. The card that you have in your hands is it maybe I'm going to go sightsee this building. Well, this building is going to take you three days to see. So, what you have to do is in that week spend three of your tokens uh for that week and put it in the area that you're visiting. Then you take that card to represent that and put it down on your little calendar board to show, okay, that's where I am currently in the week.

Some things take one day, some takes take twos, take three, but every time you play a card, you might get a little benefit, a little text at the bottom. And all these cards are unique. In this game, there's going to be 240 location cards in all. Each of them have like special icons in the upper right hand corner which could help you score some points later in the game based on collecting a certain number etc. We'll talk about that in a bit but that's that's mainly it. Hand of cards travel by uh spending either cash to move to any spot on the board or spending an energy token to move to an adjacent location. Get where you need to be. Play the card. Get it in place. Those tokens on your board go onto the map where you are. At the end of a week, you'll evaluate every single country in Europe.

Whoever has the most in that country gets two points. Whoever has a second most gets one. There's a couple special places that will give you more than that, but that's generally what it is. Rinse, repeat, four weeks. When you're doing the um travel and you're e you can stay in a location. You don't necessarily have to travel. So, that's that's kind of important. So, if you've got a hand of cards that keeps you in Great Britain in the UK, you may want to stay there. You may want to explore a little bit longer if you want to. Now, also on this map is various bucket list that if you have certain, oh, I don't know, I've got uh let's say four happiness tokens, maybe I'll go see Stonehenge and I'll collect that bucket. That's going to be some endgame scoring right there. Also maybe if you're in this region and these will change during the round an advanced play is having festival tiles and the festival tiles you know once you're able to score those or gain them they may give you an ongoing benefit like I had a festival tile that said hey

whenever you're in this country at your last turn you can flip the day disc to the insider tip side and insider tip side in this game when you're scoring majority in the land, whoever has the most insider tips are big. They help you succeed. It's not just the number of day disc you have there, but it's also the number of insider tips because you can Hey, somebody could have six insider tip or day disc there and you got one insider tip. You won. You got you got majority.

And also in each region are lo localal tiles which uh on your turn there's a certain cost. I could spend uh energy and a person. You also have little people tokens that you collect in order to collect something. Like one of them is spend a person get two energy because you are always having to replenish your energy and money to be able to do your travel. Now Tony, one thing you could do um as opposed to play a card and visit a location. Cards in your hand are also resources for getting other things. You could discard three cards to get four money or discard three cards to get two energy or take three new cards into your hand. And then at the very end of the round, the most number of cards you can have in your hand is seven. So you can discard down, draw back up, and then and then continue. So Tony, this this reminds me a lot of other games that we've played, uh, including games like Terraforming Mars, Ark Nova, where there's all these different unique cards, and I've got this situation where I've got all these cards in my hand, and what's the best way to use them? And that's what this feels like. And I think for people that like games like those, I mentioned, this game will appeal to them. Mhm. But from an Arc Nova standpoint, this is a lot simpler scoring

and a lot shorter. A lot shorter. And I think in the activity phase of it, it's travel, activity, and extras. Those are the steps of your turn. And I like the fact that you can spend a day token to do one of the things with the cards. Like you said, get resources, get energy, or or I mean, it's right, rest, plan. And I should have said that all those things that you do, you still have to spend one of your day tokens, which also is interesting, too, because somebody could spend all their day tokens for the week and they're done for the round.

Mhm.

And then they're watching everybody else kind of play sort of deal at that point.

Yeah. Like I had a few that cost me four. And it was this is where I kept getting frustrated is cuz depending on you know, you place you count the number of day tokens you have to spend and you insert your card in your calendar at that point. And you stated that, you know, hey, if you're play that card on the day that it has the bonus, you get that. But I kept overextending my days at a location. I will say this, you do not need three days at the Eiffel Tower. Okay, let's be realistic.

Uh, no, you don't. You don't even need a full day at the Eiffel Tower.

No, you don't. I mean, go up, take a look, look at the apartments, say, "How did these people get up here before elevators?" They had to climb. That's crazy talk. Anyway, this is one game that does flow pretty quickly. You're not going to spend a lot of time on your turn taking that one action. You're either going to travel, stay, you're going to take one of those activities, and then perform that action at the end. So, the game does move pretty quick because it is an area control game. You probably will kind of keep up with what other people are doing. Oh, wow. I thought I was guaranteed two points in this region. Tony came over there and uh flipped one of his tokens to the heart side, which is that insider tip side. Great. Now I'm losing. Do I invest time going back over there, trying to take over that region, or do I instead try to complete this bucket list over here, which will actually net me more points in the end, even though the area scoring is important, there are other ways to score victory points in the game.

Another thing that kept frustrating me was the income. After we've done the region scoring and refreshed the festivals, there's income. And based on that you will get the various tokens that you need which could be energy from u the energy the euros the excitement or the locals where I was concentrating my cards drove me to I didn't have any way to really increase my income over time and there were certain things that hey increase your income pick one of those the locals or the excitements pick one and increase it I kept running into the fact that you know I be I had only gone up in rank think on the income only two things and I had postcards which by the way postcards that you get are the ability to score in-game points as well

in-game goals. So as you're playing the game is kind of is kind of pushing you hey you might want to do this to get some points sort of deal. Yeah. And so for me Tony on the other side I ran up a lot of my income. I mean I've played a lot of games like this and I felt like okay I feel like this is important. Maybe I don't want to waste time on my turn discarding cards to try to get energy. Why not I increase my energy income so that I automatically get a couple at the end of each round.

Mhm. However, you who didn't do that ended up winning the game. So it I mean it didn't benefit me too much and I was purely from the festivals. At the very first of the game, I got that very super powerful festival and I may have played it wrong, but we read it and that's how I interpreted, you know, at the end of the week, turn one of your days over to a tip. And I was like, okay.

Where you where you're located,

where I was located. I was like, okay, I'm just going I'm just going to scoot along the northern part of Europe here visiting uh Europe. And then I got this luck of the draw. Hey, score points equal to the number of uh day t or um day discs you have in this location in Britain. I'm sitting here and I got a ton of them. Well, this [snorts] is not going to be a hard choice for me. So, yeah, I think and that's like Ark Nova or like Terrammystica or any of these it card draw does play out on how you may do your game and also the luck in the game especially with 240 plus cards wherever how many are in this game.

Yeah. And so I'd mentioned I said I think the people that will like this game uh like what you get to do in games like Arc Nova except this game is much shorter. Personally for me I wasn't a big fan of Arc Nova or um Earth. I think Earth is another example where you had all these different cards and even in that game it's like well crap uh Tony got that card man that card would have been huge for me. I wish I could have gotten that. In these blind draw games like this where you have all these unique cards, it's just one of those situations where if you get those cards that will really give you a lot of points like Tony you did with that one about Great Britain. It's a game changer. I wish not only in this game but in some other games that I've played to have something like this where it's blind draws off a deck. I wish it was a market. I wish it was one of those things where multiple cards I could choose from. Uh, and maybe it's one of those things where the classic mechanism of the first card is free and every card you go deeper in the line, it's you have to pay an extra euro to get. I wish I would could have picked the cards that would have gone into my hand as opposed to the blind draw.

Mhm. It would slow the game down, but that's it would

that's all right. It's but to Yeah. Like you're saying, okay, well, when I draw up to the seven and I'm sitting here looking at all these cards, you know, down in Italy and I have no desire to go visit there because of way things are concentrating. Well, shoot, you you and Bert fight it out down there. I do think that this game, we played it with three with four players. I think there'd be more competition.

Mhm.

But I also feel like the resources are so big in this game that you've got to figure out a way to help generate those other than maybe I just plan a day, draw three cards, my next turn is I'm I'm going to ride home and gain some euros. So, for me, this is one of those things to where, you know, when it comes to giving a a a score here, there's another channel I've seen where they have what what's called a personal score and recommended score. And I never understood the reason for that. And I think this is one of those where I understand the reason because I think as a recommended score for people who enjoy games like Ark Nova, Earth, etc., they're really going to like this game because it's a lot easier, I think, to understand, a lot easier to get to the table. it's shorter and thematically it's one of those things everything kind of makes sense. The the fact that four rounds are four weeks um and you're just traveling around around different locations. The area control is kind of cool. I I like that part. It's just this the card mechanic that's used that's used in those other games I'm just I'm just not a huge fan of.

Mhm. Okay. So, how many nuts you going to give this?

Here's the thing. I would play this over Earth. I would play this over Arc Nova. If I call those average games, I would give this a bump over that and say this is a six.

Okay. All right. I've been looking for a game similar to Ark Nova or Earth or something to possibly play it with Donna, you know, two-player.

I don't think this is the game for two-player. I just don't anytime when you're fighting for majority in an area, two-player is very boring.

You You're going to go put in your little area. I'm going to go play in my little area. So, but whereas Arkn Nova or Earth two-player kind of sometimes works in those games because of the card draw

because I was looking for something because you're right, Arknova is just so complicated that I that it did not go over well. So, I'm going to move Ark Nova off the shelf. Earth, it it was okay, but the amount of time it takes to read all the cards and play through the cards and develop everything, it's just so slow of play for for us. And when I rank these things, everybody understand, I'm also looking beyond our play group, but also with the, you know, the casual gamers that we play with. So, I'm was like, man, I had hopes on this, right? But I'm with you. I'm going to go with a five here. It was an average game for me. I think it would be easier to get on the table with the friends and I definitely think it would appeal to my friends because we all travel together,

right? And they will spend time looking at those cards, reminiscing about the time we all went into the Eiffel Tower or the time that we went to go visit the Louv and it was the first day of the strike on the Lou and they shut it down. That's where this game would shine with my group. But as far as a gamers game. Yeah, I'm with you. This is just an average game to me. Five.

All right. Again, this game has actually been a hit. It's reviewed a lot better than what we gave it on uh BGG. So, again, this is our personal preference. It's just that compared to other games like this one better, but it's like, you know, even those other games, we thought they they were fine. And, you know, Tony, Ark Nova was a huge game, right? Huge. Everybody loved it. So, we were a way in the minority when it comes to that game. But if those games appeal to you and you find Arknova or something like that harder to get the table, then check out Abroad from Portal Games.

5minute initiative begins in three, two, one.

Next on the table is a game by Richard Garfield, published by Yellow, and that is Bunny Kingdom Town. Now, Marty, I never played Bunny Kingdom. Did you?

I did not. So, people are going to say, "Well, how does this compare to Bunny Kingdom?" You don't know.

We got no clue. This is one of those games. It's another tile lane game. All right. Got plenty of them out there. Two-player only.

Mhm.

And you're going over four rounds, you're going to try to score the most victory points based on how you build your your little suburb of Bunny Kingdom. You're in a town. And on your turn, you will first plan. You will take a tile. This tile will go into your own to your side of the board. And then you may construct if you want to. You can construct by buying a plot which is set at the top of the board. And these plot plot cards tell you exactly where you can build. The zoning agents have come and said you may build in this location. And over time the I mean not over time these cards cost certain amount. The first card costs nothing and then it builds. And then as people take plot cards, they slide down and the ones that were more expensive get cheaper. Once you construct your building, you can construct again if you have the money, if you want to, but if you don't, you say, "Fine, I'm done." You activate that building. It may be some in-game scoring. It may get you, oh, I don't know, an instant ability right then or get some instant carrots or money or whatever. But you also look at the score based on the adjacent orthogonal building buildings. You count up the number of stars. You count up the unique tiles in that neighborhood. Multiply.

Score points. Next person goes. Rinse and repeat. Do it for four rounds. Yay. That's Bunny Town Kingdom.

And I know it's Tony kind of went through that and kind of was like, "Well, what's the big deal?" I actually enjoyed this game.

I did, too. I know there's a lot of tile draft, tile placement, but Tony, what I liked about this is on your turn, you've only got five spots that you can build. Mhm.

And there's going to be there's 25 plots in all. Eventually, all of them are going to become available. So, there's not a lot of AP. Hey, I've got five slots. I've only got a limited number of buildings to build with. Just where am I going to build? Free is always an option, Tony. Or just not building at all until until you get some money. But you are risking that somebody could come and build in a spot that you really wanted. And you and I ended up as we build closer to each other, we're kind of fighting over spots or actually trying to block each other from getting some big scoring.

Yeah, that's a big strategy thing. Now, there is something if I don't build in a certain plot or I hold back buildings cuz I did. I had a card at the end that said based on the number of buildings you did not construct, you get victory points. That could hold up what plots come out because a round ends after the five building cards are taken. But it must be something that you know, you don't go on, hey, I'm going to be on my little side of the river. There's a river that divides up the board and Marty's on his. You really got And I learned this quickly cuz Marty killed me. He killed me by 100 points easy. But I was because

I did kill him.

It was It was sad, but I It was one of those things. How is he doing that? Ah, he had the stars. He had the various buildings. I needed to break up his neighborhoods. I needed to move in there and bring him down because that would have kept him from scoring a lot of points. You got to pay attention to that.

Yeah. And also, some of that was driven by request cards. So, at the beginning of each round, you get to draw two request cards and keep them. Again, those are like in-game achievements. But, and another thing I like about this, these are goals. Hey, if you happen to build a lot of this certain type of building, you're going to get X amount of points for every building you have at the end of the game. Well, that's going to make you focus on those types of buildings. And Tony, even though you score for variety in your neighborhoods, it honestly got to the point to where this big neighborhood I had with a lot of the same buildings didn't matter because I was holding this one secret request card that you didn't know about that was going to score major points for me at the end of the game. I dug this. I think this is a fun two-player. Have you played it with Donna yet? That seems like she would like this.

No, not yet. We're going we're going to put it on the table um soon. And I did read the rules, tried to get it on the table, but something came up. But yes, I won't give this a try. It'll be a nice break from her love of Carinson, I think. Uh, but I need to make sure I explain to her that here's some of the strategy elements. It's a hidden strategy that you need to understand about breaking up the how it's scored because once you understand the scoring, I it really will help dictate how you play this game. Yeah. Bunny Town. Bunny Town. Bunny Kingdom Town.

Bunny Kingdom Town. Look, for what it is, for a game that plays in 30 minutes in a small box and so easy to understand, I really enjoy my time with I'm giving this sucker an eight.

Wow.

It because it's so rare for draft and placement games to do anything exciting for me. Um, I just had a fun time trying to figure out this little puzzle right here. And [clears throat] it just doesn't stay on the table too long. It flies.

It does. It really does. It's a Garfield, you know, a Richard Garfield. Does it deserve I'm gonna have to go uh I'm going I'm gonna give it a seven only because I think the scoring I'm going is going is a little challenging at times for for like Donna or others that I may teach this to. But so I'm just going to go with a seven.

So all your scoring I'm finding has nothing to do with your idea. It's what you think others will think. And I think a lot of that h drives how I'm going to am I going to play it on the thing. It's not I know what I think of this, but I need to ratchet so that I can weigh it against what others think. Yeah, that's how that's how I score things. That's how I score a lot of things. Food. Did it taste good to me? Yeah. But what did others think?

Wow. All right, y'all. That is Bunny Kingdom Town from Yellow Games.

Fiveminute initiative is complete. We are once again excited to be working alongside Game Toppers. And coming up September 22nd, Berky has a new Kickstarter launching featuring his mats called Game Mat Bazaar. These are playmats and mat storage solutions featuring art from some of the board game industry's top artists like Vincent Dutra and Ryan Luckett. We have been using Game Toppers mats for years. Personally, I probably have three or four. Tony also has three or four and we use them each and every week for our game nights. Why do we like Game Toppers mats? Because they are made of 3.6 mm highdensity neoprene which means they always lay flat. They have double stitched edging for a long lasting life. Highfidelity printing for crystal clear highresolution images.

Precision cutting for accurate sizing within 1 to 3 mm tolerance which is important for fitting inside a game topper. They're stain resistant and washable for years of service and we should know cuz we've been using one for years. In addition, they have non-skid backing so wherever you put your mat, it's going to stay in place. plus 40 styles to choose from, including those from some of the top board game artists. Over the next few weeks, you're going to hear from us some more details about some of the featured mats and accessories. You'll find links to the Kickstarter in our show notes. So, go follow the Kickstarter and sign up for notifications so that you can get your free mystery gift, which will be revealed at launch. Want to play another uh trick taker? Oh, sure. Why not? We get trick takers coming in all the time to try out.

Capstone has a new one called Oh Mine, which I found out, Tony, is actually a remake of a game from in the past, which is maybe why, as we talked earlier in the episode, why we really liked it because we never played the original. Tony, I don't think we've played a trick taking game exactly like this.

I did not realize this was I can't say sharen.

Mhm. Oh my I'm I'm putting it in my basket right now to order it. I'm just going to leave it at that.

The crazy thing about this is uh you're going to play rounds based on the number of players. At the beginning of rounds, uh you're going to put out four color cards that represent the four different colors of four different uh suits of cards that are in the deck. Uh each suit is numbered 1 through 12. Once you put those out, you're going to shuffle and deal out number cards 1 through 12 and place uh one on each of those colored cards. Those become super tricks. Super Trumps. Super. What was it called? Super.

We called it Super Trump. So, I don't know what the rules say. That's what stuck.

Yeah. Super Trump is is the name. So if let's say for example there was a 10 green that trumps everything. Doesn't matter. If the next card from left to right is a nine blue that trumps everything but the 10 green.

Mhm.

And then the very last one maybe it's a one yellow. That trumps everything except the three to the left of it. And that's changing every round. But Tony, what's cool is what about if none of those cards are part of the trick? Then the strength of the trump is based on the colors that are shown from left to right. So green would be the highest and yellow would be the least

and you have to follow

that's not even ALL THAT'S NOT EVEN THE whole thing. There's one other big thing. It's how you win the game.

And keep in mind when you're taking tricks, you always have to play, you know, the colors. You have to match suit. You have to follow suit.

Now you wanted you're so excited about something else. What else are you so excited about? Because there was something that you haven't mentioned yet that I'm excited about. But you go right ahead. Tell me what you're excited.

Well, no, it's how do you score points?

I wasn't that excited about that because it was

what? Okay, y'all. So, at the beginning of every round, you're going to try to predict which suit are you going to have the most of and which suit are you going to have the least of.

I like that.

That's the game. That's the whole game. It doesn't matter how many tricks you take. That's not it. It's just at the very end of all the cards a few taken. If I said I I'm going to get the most reds of just me, not even compared to everybody else. Did I have more reds than any other thing? And did I predict correctly? I'm going to score points. Did I have I said I was going to score the least blue? Do I have less blue than any other color? If I do, I'll score points. And then the difference between the most and least taken will also score bonus points. There it is. All right. So if you if you've predicted it right, then there was it felt convoluted near the end. Hey, I got the most right. I got I got it right that I was going to take the most cards of this. Not more than anybody else, like you said, but the most. And then the least if I did not do that correctly, I think that's the rub. All right, I got this one right. I didn't get that one right. What counts now? You know, does it all get wiped away?

What counts is your prediction? If you were spot on, if let's say I got the most reds, I get five points.

Mhm.

And if I predicted the blue is going to be the least, and it was, I get five points. Ah, but what about if blue was tied with another? Let's say it was tied for green. Both green and blue are my least. Well, that's called an imperfect guess. I'll get three points for that.

Then I take the difference of the number taken of the most and the least and then add those to my total. So, eight plus whatever the difference between those two is. But that bonus only counts if you correctly guess both of them where they're perfect or imperfect.

Mhm. Mhm. Yeah. That that bit me a couple that bit me. Yeah. I was like, "Well, dang it." Yeah. Great game. Now, my favorite part is that we didn't mention is that when you're fanning out your cards, everybody knows what your suits are cuz the back of the cards match what's in your hand. It's not like everybody's it's all one color behind. I know how many reds Marty has. I know how many yellows he has. I know how many greens that somebody has. All that's in there that it's it's knowledge for everybody. So, you can sit there and say, "Okay, I've got the most reds, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to win the most reds because in my trick for me, I'm know I pull in a lot because they may have the trumps based on where the red lines up in the trumps.

is a very good puzzle for a card game. And the slow part of this game, I think, came down to everybody trying to figure out what they were going to take the most of and the least of. Cuz we sat there and thought, well, gee, I've got a lot of yellow, but yellow is the is the weakest suit. So, I'm not going to take a lot with yellow unless everybody else also has yellow and I have high number yellows. And that's the puzzle of the game.

Yeah. because you're not going to be able to, you know, what's going to be. You can't guess at bleeding things out. You know how many I've got. Even if I play red, he doesn't have it. He could trump that with just a standard blue unless it's my super red, right? So, I'm like, "Okay, well, that may not come over to me." And whenever you win a trick, the cards that were not used, that were not dealt, you may pick from those piles to help you offset possibly what your most are. So, if I win a trick, then I can look across the the, you know, what cards are left. I don't know what the numbers are. And I can pick, oh, I'm just going to take I said blue is going to be the most. I'm going to take the blue that's left over to help add to or pad my scores. Mhm. Which I thought was when I first read the rules is I don't get the big deal of this. But it's kind of huge because then it does push you to try to win a trick.

Let's say blue is tied with the one I predicted to be the lowest, which is red.

And there's a blue sitting out there in the area. Well, if I can win the trick and I can take that blue and add it, that now means the one I predicted as my lowest truly is my lowest.

Yeah. And you can it can also tell you a lot about what people are trying to collect over there as to what they want most of

which is huge too because we started learning as the game went on. You start seeing what other people are doing and you can try and you can almost figure out what they're doing and then try to screw them over.

Exactly.

It's like oh you probably predicted green as your least here. Why don't you take that green this time? or Okay, I'm going to take that the ones that I think you're taking the most of as long as I stay under my most just so you can't get your most.

Yeah, y'all. This this game is so freaking good because it is Yeah, it's a trick taking game, but it is so different than anything else. So, Anton Tony, I understand why you want to copy for yourself.

Is now, is this a game that you think others will enjoy in your group, or is it it's going to be too much of a mindblower?

Too much. It's too complicated. I'm going to force them to try to play it.

because the it was fun. It was fast. I mean, of all the card games I have, I mean, you know, six nymph or knock or not knock, six nymph or take six is the one you have. I mean, I think of all of the games we have. I mean, this one I think I could get on the table that they they feel are complicated, but I think this one I could do for them a lot better than um and a lot quicker than bottle imp. Okay,

but bottle limp can play up to six and this can only play up to four.

I think this is a gamer's trick taking game like because of all the the bluffing

that potentially could happen in this and all the kind of like not only get your goal but try to screw somebody else. I I just I don't know. I'm giving I'm giving this bad boy an eight. Uh a lot of the trick games I've played recently, this one is way up there for me. It's a eight.

Yeah, I'll I'll go with an eight on this. And that's this is just how I feel. Un.

All right, y'all. This game is only like $17. You can pre-order it right now over at Capstone. It's it's different enough for you to try. Again, that's allin from Capstone Games.

All right, Tony, I got to go out and see Coyote versus Acme, one of my favorite movies of the year. I saw it. That's what you were posting. You said people need to really go out and see that. Give it some love. You need to you're you're going on a witch hunt for a Warner Brothers executive.

It's uh it's good. I was grinning the whole way through, beginning to end. I laughed. It was It's a good movie. It's just a flat. And if you go look at scores, if you care about critics or audience scores, everybody everybody enjoyed it. It's a great flick.

Yeah, I saw that. Um some of the YouTube feeds that come flying in about movies for me. Yeah. Everybody's talking about, you know, y'all don't miss this one. It's It's that good. It's not, you know, Space Jam was I'm sorry. This is probably people It wasn't I didn't really enjoy Space, but I liked Roger Rabbit. So, this is what I'm hoping it will give me the feel of. I really enjoyed Roger Rabbit, you know. I mean, the spoiler you cannot tell me is if he wins, but I bet there's a ton of sight gags. Every 3 to 5 seconds is a gag of some sort. Just make sure to watch the background. It's just like little things just happening all the time and every Looney Tunes character you can think of appears at in some shot at some point. It's it's pretty crazy for those who don't know. So basically WB made this movie three years ago and basically canned it wrote it off for just a tax write off. Nobody knows why. Then a studio called Ketchup Studio picked it up uh because there was such an outcry or or like support for like we want to see this movie. send me Pierce, we want to see this movie. So, they said, "Okay, we'll get it. We'll distribute it." And this weekend, it opened up uh as of right now, it's between 15 and $16 million. Is that a Spider-Man 2? No. But it knocked Odyssey out of second spot this week.

Oh, good.

So, it came in right behind uh Spider-Man. And that's just domestic. So, go see this movie. It's It's worth seeing. I will own it on Blu-ray also.

Is it Did Cena do a good job?

Yes. Cena. John Cena is just a good comedic actor. There is a scene in there with him and Tweety Bird that just had me giggling the entire

I know which one you're talking about time. I wish they had not shown a trailer of it cuz that's the portion of it, but it goes on and on and dude it is so freaking funny.

Like these guys are doing so good of acting against nothing and it looks so so real, you know,

to be able to keep that straight face while he's doing that. thought, you know, and Oh, I Yeah, I'm thinking that that's going to be one that Don and I actually take go back to the movies on Tuesday before it gets out of here. And maybe not this coming or maybe the week of the release of this show. I may be able to get her over to the movies on Tuesday because I really do I want to see this in the theater and not on the little screen. I don't know if it needs to be like Odyssey. I still haven't gone and seen Odyssey yet, but I think it's a little late for Odyssey because you've all, you said you need to see Odyssey and IMAX, and I think it's all gone.

I didn't say that. I just said you need to see it on the big screen.

Okay. All right. Well, um, now along with, you know, little sight gags, I don't know if you've picked up or watched any of the new Ted Lasso that's out.

I have.

Okay. The last one had a sight gag that I was sitting there thinking about. Nobody nobody is going to get, but you may have got when they left the spoiler. They're in jail. When they left the jail, did you catch that?

They said something for somebody.

It was the walk. They took me back to Jean Wilder and Richard Prior.

Oh, when they left the jail.

Okay. Yeah. They made a comment. Yeah. Yeah. And it was like that's a reference to another movie and I couldn't remember which one it was.

I don't know why that you I mean it immediately hit me but that was one of them. I remember that from that movie. I'm like that is really I really enjoyed the number four. I thought that was really funny some of the things they're doing but I enjoy the little psych from from Ted. So

yeah for me they should have stopped after three seasons this one.

Well I figured you wouldn't like it. I'm surprised you watched one through three just because it was football. Well, no. One through three was good, funny, had a lot of heart. And it's like it's like, "Okay, let's try to do the fish out of water thing again, but this time we'll do it with the women's team." It's just so so many of the good characters are gone.

Yeah.

Those good characters have not been replaced. So, you're really relying on just several people and then they just keep doing a little little cameo here. And Yeah. I I just I just don't think it's as as as good because you got so much they covered so much of the backstory of the characters in the first three that we kind of know everything and that was part of the interesting part of the stuff that you find out Ted was struggling with etc over time. So

I agree with you that it's they're not dwelling in on the players. It's the story is all around the five, you know, and that's it. So anyway, I mean I'm sure everybody else is is loving it. I don't care. Um, but yeah, I just saw that site gag and I was like, "Wow, that's unre that's unusual." No one, very few people, well, very few people. A lot of people probably picked up on it, but man, I was like, man, I I need to go watch that movie again. Two great comedic actors.

What What was the movie? Was it Stir Crazy?

Thank you. My gosh, it couldn't come to my head. Yes. Stir crazy. That's it. That's it. Because when they did it, it was like I immediately saw Gene Wilder and um

Richard Prior.

Richard Prior. Yeah. in my head, but it's like I they did so many movies together, I couldn't remember which one it was.

All right. Anything else before I say keep rolling dice?

No. And taking names. Hey y'all, thanks for listening. Don't forget we have a brand new affiliate code with Miniature Market. Go over to our websiteenames.com. You'll see a link for it. Okay, Marty, I know you can't spoil the movie for me, but is the Coyote going to need to do an appeals? Is he going to need to take it to the Supreme Court?
