hello welcome back to the ball games 4k youtube channel and this is a channel where we give you reviews play throughs unboxings which we like to talk a lot of bollocks about tabletop gaming in general but today we are going to be continuing our countdown of our top 100 ball games of all time this is number 20 down to number 11. i'm getting really excited because santa is coming he's going to went to his sack in my house on the 24th so sit back relax don't die in your sleep and hopefully we'll get to number one pretty soon
board games 4k so number 20 on this list is a game that is credited for being one of the first of its genre this is chaos it's a worker placement game where you'll be placing your workers out onto a path that runs up to the citadel of chaos i think is you'll be placing buildings onto this path and all the time you'll have to be aware of that sneaky provost that is going to stop you from moving closer to the castle you'll be trying to construct different stages of the castle at dungeons and all that sort of thing and this game is famed for that grumpy king that always scares the living [ __ ] out of me right kayla's one of the best worker placement games that we've played and it's still going strong today right number 19 is a game boy christophe bowling this was number one on our top 100 a few years ago but it has dropped down the list this is a wonderfully looking worker placement style game where you'll be placing your workers out onto the archipelago that looks absolutely fantastic by the way to gather resources you'll be building different types of structures like towns and churches and all the time you'll be trying to prevent a rebellion from the citizens on the archipelago this is without doubt our favourite christophe bowlingship game the thing that makes this really interesting is it contains a multitude of different characters that you can purchase during a game to assist you with your mission right it's also semi-cooperative in the sense that you've got a global objective and you've also got a personal objective but everybody scores points based on your
personal objective so it's in your interest to sort of keep an eye on what other people are doing to try and second guess what their personal objective is archipelago did get criticized for some of its content but again this for another video right but we still love archipelago it's one of the best looking games that we've got you should play it right so this is another going by eric m lang this is blood rages as a viking themed area control game that utilizes some stunning looking miniatures the game is very simple you'll be moving your clan members around the board trying to take control of different areas but the board will be shrinking as the game progresses right so everyone's going to be scratching around in a dirt trying to control a smaller area this is probably our favorite eric m lang game we still play it today it's a bit of a bummer that there's so many kickstarter exclusives with this one so you can't get some of the minis that are available anymore but blood rage one of the best area control games that we have played and seriously folks if you ain't played it you're a knob 17 on this this is a we like to call it an abstract game really but it's a terrible mystical right this is a game where you'll be taking control one of a wealth of different factions really got no bearing on the game because you completely forget when you're playing it what faction you are you might be the dwarfs or the witches but you'll completely forget about that but that's not the point the point is you'll be terraforming the land to suit your specific races traits right and then you'll be building structures like sanctuaries and temples and stuff to give you bonuses and victory points
that will help you to fulfill different conditions that change every round right terra mystica is a wildly popular game it is a bit of a shame that it is kind of famous if it had a bit of a theme i know it's been reprinted as the guy project but again what's the point in us buying that when we've got this one right there's a couple of expansions for this which open the game up even more you've got to fire a nice expansion and then you've got something to do with the c which you've been played and we're probably not going to get it either because we just got enough in this box to satisfy us for the rest of our life and into the next one number 16 is a game by stefan feld i don't think there's been that many stephen feld games on this list this year but it's castles of burgundy this game looks like complete crap unless you've got the deluxe edition that's recently been printed but you get what you pay for because this game only cost us 15 quid years and years ago right what you'll be doing you'll be rolling a couple of dice and then you'll be using them dice to take actions on the main board that will allow you to shape your estate right you'll be shipping goods out into the external markets you'll be constructing different locations on your main board you might be able to rear animals not like that or you might be building mines where you can get extra [ __ ] right but castle burgundy we've never got ball with this one okay it is a bit famous again you've got to expect that when you're knocking down stefan phil's door but yeah castles are burgundy bit a little bit more expensive these days so don't be put off by that because you will have an absolutely super duper time interrogating the mind of stefan phil right number 15 on this list is another dice
placement game it's trois or as some people like to say troyes this game will see you roll your dice and you'll place the dice into a communal area in the center of board and then you'll be using them dice to take different actions you might each area of the city of tua is divided up into specific themes like you might have the church where you can try and get the majority in the church but you've also got to be aware of the threats that will be revealed every round right you collectively don't deal with them threats then you're going to get your ass banged right dwar is a revered game it's recently got a re-implementation a loose implementation game called black angel let's call it the spiritual successor to this we haven't played that one because what's the point i mean we've got this one right but is a fantastic dice placement game that really deserves its place on this list right number 14 is another game that has a name of a french place it's orleans orleans whatever you want to say right this is a bag building game throughout the game you'll be placing these different characters or personalities into your bag you'll be drawing them out you'll be placing them out onto your main board that will allow you to take actions you might want to end up going around the french countryside picking up lumps of cheese or you might want to dump these characters into a specific location where they will stay and they will generate you a reward all the owns is a very minimalist design but it's got that wonderful medieval artwork that is so different from a lot of the other stuff that we play we like this game so much
that we upgraded it with the deluxe components where you get these wooden tokens to chuck in your bag and it's spawned several expansions like the hawley owns invasion so yeah allianz that's our number 14. number 13 is another game that's recently been reprinted in the second edition this is eclipse a new dawn for the galaxy we haven't backed the second edition we're not going to pay 140 quid for a game that we already own because we ain't stupid [ __ ] this is classic another 4x game is explore exploit exterminate and i still can't remember what the fourth x is right but yeah you'll be given a faction or an alien race which each has its own special ability you'll be spending dosh to build ships or to take other spacey themed actions and you'll also be picking yourself against the ancients who are like rock hard but if you can give them a good old set then they will yield some pretty good bonuses there's three expansions for this you've got the shadows of the rift expansion you've got the other one that i can't remember the name of and you've got the ship expansion which is the only one that we don't have because what's the point they lied a bit when they said that you can play a twilight imperium experience in two and a half hours because that's completely [ __ ] this game lasts for about four or maybe even five hours if you're playing it with seven players right but it's more economic than twilight appearing so it does scratch a different testicle that's eclipse that's on number 13.
number 12 on this list is a game that essentially is just a bunch of beer mats right it's skull and roses in this game you'll be given three rows beer mats and you'll be given one with a skull on it and what you do for the first round everyone will choose to place one down and then in the second round you've got the option of either placing another one down or you can open the bidding if somebody was bidding they're saying that they can turn over a certain amount of cards without revealing the scope starting with their own ones if you don't then you win a point first of two points wins and if but if you do reveal skull you lose one of your beer mats and if you lose all your beer mats throughout the game absolutely fantastic game this has been referred to as a metagame in a sense that there's a little game that's played outside of the game where you will be second guessing what people do based on what they've already done right so you might be sitting there with aunt mabel and you might be thinking well she bluffed with a skull last time to make me pick her up so is she going to do the same again she probably will because she's crafty like that but then you've got uncle bob over there who's going to do the opposite looks constantly second-guessing people's actions based on what they have done and what you think they might do based on their sort of personality right it's an intriguing game never gets sold it's cheap as chips but if you can't afford the 12-nothing on price tag go down your local pub pinch a couple of beer mats and scarpa number 11 on this list is a real time game that utilizes some really shitty miniatures it's project elite this is another game that has been reprinted in a second edition and again we haven't bought the second edition because we've already got the [ __ ] first edition right
get it into your bleed nets this is a game where you will be given a two minute timer and you will be rolling dice that will allow the movie miniatures you might be able to pick up some alien technology the most important thing you've got to remember is that you cannot allow any aliens to infiltrate your facility right if they do the game is over the wonderful thing about this game is that after the two minutes is up you've got a chance to regroup with your compatriots and formulate a strategy for the next round based on what you've picked up and where the aliens are right this is one of the best real-time games you can get luckily for you it has been reprinted because you ain't going to be able to get the original artipia games version so if you've got a spare hundred quid go and buy the semon edition and see if you can last longer than two minutes so there you go that concludes the penultimate episode of our top 100 board games of all time have you written a santa claus yet what ball games are you expecting come christmas day i might be crying into my pillow but who gives a [ __ ] at the end of the day i've got more than enough ball games to last me until the day i die and you ain't getting them because i'm going to be buried with them all right so you go come back for the next video or don't i don't care
so you
