Quotes (from this video)
  • one scenario that I'm really keen of is the murder mystery type of like spin to it. Yes. It's called Label Epoch and it is set I guess on the Orient Express train heading to Istanbul and you have to uh within Snowonia somehow solve a murder.
  • Snowonia Grand Tour. This one is by Naylor Games
  • The fifth game is called 1:00 a.m. Jailbreak. So hopefully I'll be able to get this. Publisher is Sashi. Sashi plays two to five players. So this theme is interesting because a it's a card shedding game, but there's a twist is every time you play, you have to draw a new card.

  • two-player battle game where there are also engine building to it and there's explosive endings
  • you do two actions in your turn and then you can play cards, you can flip cards from in access to active sides.

  • Isle of White

Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Area Control — Players place markers to show who built tracks and gain points.
  • event cards — White event cubes drawn from a bag can cause different things to happen.
  • Movement — Moving around the board, including a yacht race track.
  • Resource Management — Gaining resources like iron ore, stone, and coal, and using steel bars for building.
  • Set Collection — Contract cards provide abilities and end-game scoring opportunities.
  • Track laying — Building and laying track is a core action.
  • Variable player powers — Trains (or boats/cars in this scenario) provide specific abilities and points.
  • Worker Placement — Actions are resolved in letter order (A-G) based on worker placement.
Video topics + discussion points
No key topics recorded for this video.
Quotes (from this video)
  • Now, you'll be helping with construction, but unlike other train games, you'll have to excavate your way up a mountain side, as well as make and lay the track, construct vioaducts and stations.
  • And all this is in competition with the weather of the Welsh mountains and the game itself.
  • Snowdonia is a midweight interactive classic for one to five players. Takes 30 to 90 minutes to play and it's published by Naylor Games.
  • Now, this is all facilitated by worker placement, where you're going to be placing your workers on specific actions. And then once they're all placed, you're going to be resolving them in letter order from left to right, A through G, top through bottom.
  • The label poke scenario. It most radically alters the core rules. Instead of building a railway, players are passenger on the Orient Express, traveling from London to Istanbul. A murder has taken a place on board and players are tasked with solving it.
  • And I'm sure that Naylor Games would love your support.

  • Variety of scenarios offering different themes and gameplay experiences.
  • Updated and improved solo mode that is compatible with most scenarios.
  • Engaging murder mystery scenario that adds a new dimension to the game.

Cons
  • The murder mystery scenario cannot be played solo.

Comparison games

Mechanics (from transcript analysis)
  • Campaign play — A campaign mode allows for persistent progression, character selection, deck building, and a series of scenarios played in a chosen order, offering a narrative experience.
  • Deduction — In the murder mystery scenario, players use search actions, magnifying glasses for questions, and deduction sheets to identify the murderer among suspect cards.
  • Dice Rolling — Dice are used in the solo mode to determine which action the AI opponent takes and in some scenarios to determine the placement of flood tokens.
  • Modular Board — The game features multiple scenario boards, each with unique setups and challenges, including different railway lines, stations, and thematic elements.
  • Push Your Luck — Drawing cubes from a bag to restock the stockyard introduces an element of chance, as drawing event cubes can trigger negative effects or advance the game.
  • Resource Management — Players collect resources like iron, stone, and coal, which are then smelted into steel, used to lay track, build stations, and fulfill contracts.
  • Set Collection — Contract cards provide powerful one-off benefits and end-game scoring opportunities, encouraging players to collect specific sets.
  • Tableau Building — Players can upgrade their trains, increasing their abilities and resource acquisition potential over the course of the game.
  • Worker Placement — Players have a limited number of workers (two initially, with a third accessible via trains) that are placed on action spaces. Actions are resolved in alphabetical order, with turn order determining the resolution start.

Quotes (from this video)
  • It's one of my favorite games and it's why I was desperately putting myself forward to do something for this.
  • So it's a fantastic pacing mechanism.
  • In this, the stockyard is the galley. Iron ore is now food, stone is drink, and coal is tobacco.
  • If you are incorrect, shame on you.
  • You can't unfortunately make that soloable. Much as I would like to see that, bot. I'm gonna have to try and get two other players to tackle that one, aren't I?
  • Did I mention that I like Snowonia yet?

Quotes (from this video)
  • There is so much tension built in here and it scales really well because here we can just, you know, as you would have seen in the run through, there are more spots when there's more players, but there's still a lot of tension at every player count.
  • The weather really dictates like, okay, in this round, because it's sun, the sun's out, we can excavate at a higher rate, so I should try and do that, but everybody's got the same idea. And so, it's creating the same tension of aligning your objectives for each of the round, which I really, really like.
  • It definitely levels up the complexity. You've got these five different lines that are kind of intertwining and you're kind of moving around now with the the your surveyor is collecting these very very different endame.
  • The map here is very accurate. So train people or if you've been to Tokyo and you've traveled these lines in the past um like we have, there's a familiarity there that instantly makes, you know, it gives you it gives new life to the game just by being in a different setting.
  • I still find myself struggling even you would have seen it in the run through going wait a second so which so this these stations belong to which line and they're part of here or is this open or is this kind of blocked? So I think some folks may still struggle with that and so I don't know if visually there's something else that can be done um to try and make that a little bit clearer.
  • It definitely needs a player aid, if only to have a player aid for each scenario to let you know what rules have changed, particularly how the in this one, there's a lot of complexity around how the events play out for the and how they relate to the different uh the work rate tracks and um so that's that's really important to have on standby. Plus the the cleanup phase, I would love to have that on, you know, on a card as well.

Quotes (from this video)
  • Honestly, it's wild. What seems like basic worker placement really turns out to be layered, unpredictable, and honestly, pretty charming.
  • It's a shelf beast.
  • The chaos factor is absolutely a feature rather than a bug.
  • Scenario variety is verified.
  • Setup improvements eliminate friction.
  • Two players felt like parallel puzzle solving with lower interaction.
  • For me, it's a proper 7.5 out of 10.
